Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy the food at Jeff's Beach Burgers. The curly fries were well seasoned but not fresh. All of the sides were just sitting under a heat lamp while the burgers were cooked fresh. The onion rings were crispy but the onion inside was not juicy or flavorful. It was more so a vessel for a dipping sauce. The burger had a good, fresh texture. The meat had a nice char and the bun was soft. However, it was pretty flavorless. The meat seemed under-seasoned and the sandwich lacked enough "special sauce" to properly moisten it. It's a hip, dog-friendly restaurant with some indoor and outdoor high top seating walking distance from the beach. However, the lackluster taste leads us to choose other burgers in San Diego rather than wanting to return. San Diego has so many new burger spots introduced each year, it's hard to justify a second chance for Jeff's. read more

Color me impressed! I have passed by this place more times than I can count and never stopped in, but I am sad I haven't! I have had a lot of burgers in San Diego, but this is definitely near the top of the list for best burgers and fries! The woman who took our order was dealing with a rush but was still patient with me and very kind, and being close to the beach in the brisk La Jolla weather was wonderful with the wall-less entrance that helped provide that beachy feel all beach burger spots should have. The burger was amazing and cooked wonderfully, with incredibly juicy meat and a great special sauce that seemed to be made in house. Put this place very high on your top burgers of San Diego list. This is a small spot with a handful of seats inside and a far amount of seating outside. Good luck with parking. It is impossible in this area but trust me, finding a spot will be worth it. The first key to a great burger is seasoning. So many places forget or maybe refuse to season the meat. That is not an issue here. The meat is very well seasoned. The patties are thick. If you add bacon to your burger--and you definitely should--you get an absolute ton of it and it is crispy and well cooked. The burgers are prepared to order and they have a ton of flavor. They are simply excellent. The fries are terrific. The onion rings are very good. The chocolate shake we got was fine but nothing special. I didn't care. The burger was spectacular. It is a two minute stroll from the restaurant to the beach so don't be afraid to get your order to go. But do be very afraid of the aggressive and fearless seagulls at the beach who will swoop in on your food like a scene out of Hitchcocks' "The Birds" if you let down your guard for one second. We ordered a cheeseburger with grilled onions and jalapeños, fries, and a drink. With some tip, the whole price came for about $22. The food came out in 10 minutes, the size of the burger was actually smaller than I expected, but the taste was good. It's a decent burger. Servers were nice. They were quite busy and it's because the food is that good. It's a hole In the wall small little burger shop but it's really good. The only downside to this place is no parking lot. This was the worst dining experience I've had in a long time -- not just because of the food and service, but because of the dishonesty from both the manager and the owner. I arrived around 6:50 PM with hardly any line. The cashier stopped taking orders, so after waiting 10 minutes I placed an online order for pickup. My order (#154) had an estimated 30-min wait, which was fine -- until I saw people who ordered 10 minutes after me already finish eating before I even got my food. I have photos to prove it. The woman claiming to be the manager (refused to give her name, I'll call her "C") lied about how orders were handled and completely disregarded my request to mark mine as dine-in. When I went to the counter at the estimated time, no one acknowledged me. They were already preparing orders in the 160s while mine was just sitting there. Only when I pointed it out did C casually hand me my burger, saying "We called you" -- which was false. I had been standing right there listening. Her attitude was awful: no apology, no thank you, just a cold look as if I was the problem. By then, my two-year-old son had been waiting outside in the cold, and the burger I got was lukewarm, with a burnt dry patty and soggy undercooked bun. One of the water cups I got during the wait even had a dirty bottom. When I called to complain, the owner sounded sincere, apologized, and asked me to email the details so they could "handle it" and refund me. I wrote a detailed, genuine email -- only to be ignored. No follow-up, no refund. The promise meant nothing. Dishonesty and lack of accountability seem to be the norm here. If you care about your time, money, and being treated with basic respect, avoid this place. read more

Stopped in for a bite during a beautiful February beach day... there was no wait, but a few people enjoying their lunch outside on the outdoor tables. It's a small place with a relatively simple menu, but it's all made to order and oh-so-good! So be prepared for a bit of a wait... all totally worth it though. I had the El Jefe (think double-double), and of course I added bacon which was one of the best decisions I made that day. This was one of the best burgers I've had recently. The patties were juicy, the cheese "melty", the onion rings crispy and not at all greasy, and the fries were amazing! The bacon strips were thick cut and just the right degree of crispy. Together with some fresh lettuce, tomato in a soft bun... delicious! I would definitely recommend if you're craving that burger and fry fix. The prices are also quite reasonable for the amount of food you get (and obviously the location). The staff were super friendly and helpful, so feel free to ask if you have questions. Found this little gem on a whim on our family vacation. The burgers, fries and onion rings were all so good. The service was excellent, very friendly and smiled. My girls loved their pink lemonade(said it was better than In N Out). We also were lucky enough to meet the owner. Right next to the ocean, this place is perfect for sunsets. There's cute pink tables with views of the water that's just a couple blocks away.
