Delicious food and I forgot the cinnamon roll pic but it was delicious too. It was nice to sit outside so we could see the scenery on such a beautiful warm winter Sunday. The wait staff was ok. I felt like I was part of the team of staff. We were sat by a trash can so we were constantly swatting at bees and flys.

The Pet friendly patio is perfect for our furry friends. It was what drew us there, as most eating establishments frown on our best friends hanging with us when we dine out! Wait staff are courteous, food is perfectly prepared, and location is second to none! A must stop while in New Braunsfels

I'm sorry but we did not have a good experience here at this location. We saw that it had good reviews and wanted to try this business out and I guess we maybe came at a bad time. Once we arrived we sat down at the outside seating area and were handed our menus. It was a nice day and the location of the business is right in the corner of the downtown roundabout. Once we were ready we waited for a while until our server came back out. I ordered a large coffee hot with a salad and a side of grits. My girlfriend ordered the meatloaf with a small iced coffee and an aside of jalapeño cornbread. We later were offered to sit inside since it was cooler and we had a baby. We then waited some more and then our coffee's arrived. Except mine was a small and iced. I then tried to get her attention but she ended up leaving. I then waited, and just got my coffee and went up front to ask for my correct order. She then apologized and stated that she was new and get me my correct order. I sat back down and awhile later an employee walked up with our food. He looked miserable and then when I asked for the jalapeño cornbread he stated "yeah, it will be out in a minute". Later I received my correct coffee and as we finished our meal the jalapeño cornbread never came. When our server came back, I just told her to take it off the order and forget about it. I then asked if there was any military or first responder discount and when the waitress asked up front they said no. I then looked over the bill and it was over $50 for everything. I was a little shocked they didn't offer any type of discount for the various troubles we had with our service this day. But with all that, I'm giving this place 3 stars. Food was decent, but for the price and service, I expected more.

Came here this past weekend in the morning at around 11am before heading back to Houston. They told us there was going to be a wait of about 30 minutes and we decided to just walk around the little town while we waited. I noticed that there was tables open when we first got there but figured there was a good reason why they were not seating us there. We waiting about 35 minutes before going to ask where we stood on the list. The hostess proceeded to sit us at the same table that was open the entire time we were waiting...very strange. We were greeted promptly but our waitress definitely did not seem like she was having a great day. I have worked in the industry and I am sympathetic to this especially during a holiday weekend (fathers day) but she gave us pretty terrible service. Thankfully, they seem to share tables there and we had 1-2 other waiters that were in better spirits. To start off I ordered a chai tea latter with almond milk and it was very good! I am glad I had something to hold me over while we waited for our food to be ready because it took about 45 minutes for our food to come out. Our table ordered two plates of the lox bagels and an order of avocado toast. Neither of this dishes have to be "cooked" but they still took a long time. My lox bagel, however, was very tasty. The salmon was fresh and I really enjoyed it. Overall I think this place has the potential to be great, but it really fell short service wise. Maybe it was busier than what they could handle, but service was extremely slow and for that reason I would not come back.

I came here with family on a very cold day visiting New Braunfels. We wanted to eat inside somewhere and found this place. It had some good reviews and wanted to try. It's pretty small inside the establishment, but thankfully, we were able to get the last table available. They do have seating outside and wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so cold. Unfortunately we were seated near a very loud table and since was small place could hear everything they were saying but otherwise the people there was nice. The place was clean and our waitress greeted us very kindly. She was able to take our orders fairly quickly and made sure we were alright with everything served. It did seem they were short staff as it did take a while to see her again a few times. We ordered a lavender latte and a hot chocolate. They both tasted great. It was the perfect temperature for the cold we dealt with. I ordered 'Dixie Lox and Bagel', which had salmon and cream cheese on an everything bagel that was good. It tasted fresh, and I loved the toppings on it. I felt it was a bit expensive for me though, but with salmon, it sort of made sense. I think I would have liked it more with a different bagel used too, but otherwise, I would consider getting it again. I had a side of potatoes and felt like it was missing something (better seasoning and bit dry). They were alright though along with the bacon and sausage. We also had a fancy avocado toast with egg on top. It was too much bread for me but was decent. It was a cute establishment overall and would consider coming back at a time outside lunch. Would also order something else to try.

Gonna give this one 5 stars for one reason, and that's the meatloaf egg Benedict, solely because of how unexpectedly good it was. Everything else is very good as well, clean place, nice people, quick service. I think their meatloaf dishes are popular here, so if you see it, try it

The hubs and I decided to try The Mess Around cafe today. The day was cool and we were in good moods so an outdoor (and indoor) cafe it was. The food was delicious, the ambiance was calming and the blended coffee drink was a great dessert! Also, the waiter was so sweet. We'll be back!

Will definitely be back. First time here. When we got there, we sat outside, but we weren't sure if we were supposed to go in and place our order if someone was going to come out to us. Someone did come out to us and she did a great job waiting on us. I had the shrimp and grits and I can say they were fantastic. Nice size shrimps and seasoned perfectly. The cornbread was really good especially with some melted butter on it. It seemed to have a little smudge of heat and a little smudge if sweet. My friends had the wedge salad and the Cuban and they really liked what they got. Next time I am going to try the Muffuletta. If you want to try it, you have to get there early because they sell out quickly. We sat outside and it was not a problem heat wise. I am glad introduced they are here! Loved sitting outside and see how active the downtown is.

Sad day, really looking forward to some HOT grits and shrimp. Well twice the grits and shrimp came out ice cold to cold. My daughter had the creole benedict which she loved. Side of sausage was good also. Waiter was very nice and apologetic and took the grits and shrimp off the ticket. Maybe it's was just a bad day. The place is nice, clean older historic brick building.

First visit and not our last- we will be back. I had a delicious avocado toast with a pineapple cucumber jalapeño mimosa. Cozy atmosphere with an old New Braunfels feel.

Tried the shrimp and grits and a mimosa, shrimp was good but the grits were not my favorite. They have different flavored mimosas, some with spice, I prefer a regular mimosa, the place is super cute though and in a great location. My server was amazing though. Very attentive!

We went to enjoy a wonderful breakfast. Instead we got a male waiter that looked unhappy and miserable with his job. Made us feel very unwelcome. The waiter took a long time to take our order. When I finally got his attention he looked super upset that he had to work. He was treating everyone the same way. The other male waiter was also not friendly and very very slow at his job. Food was good if only the owner could find better friendly motivation waiters that want to work. We will not be returning! read more

This is a new restaurant in NB and I highly recommend checking it out. They definitely do not Mess Around with their excellent food menu. And the service was impeccable! We were seated outside quickly and it was nice. Our server was efficient and pretty busy but still pleasant. Our food arrived promptly. My husband had the homestyle breakfast plate and said it was great - it looked good. I had a small order of the French toast and it was honestly the best French toast I have ever had. It was excellent. But seriously, served in a paper bowl with a cheap plastic fork and knife? You have to be kidding. I could barely cut my French toast, and my husband had to tear his sausage in pieces with our knives while I held it with a barely useable fork. We aren't food snobs by any stretch, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to have real silverware and plates in any place that's better than McDonalds or Burger King. Not impressed. read more

Visiting from out of town and my wife saw this cafe online. Best meatloaf I've had in years. Our server Stephanie was friendly and attentive. Good atmosphere and location. Parking is the only downside, had to walk a few blocks but it was worth it. Will be back next time in new braunfels. read more

The food.... Drinks and Coffee all were amazing !!! If you love bloody Mary's like I do you have to have one of theirs! Such a cool place to enjoy a meal or just one of their drinks or coffee. The staff all are warm and engaging plus service is too notch which is so rare these days ! We will go here every time we visit New Braunfels. During Christmas with all the lights around it's like right out of a hallmark movie ! So nice to go somewhere that the staff enjoy what they're doing and take pride in service, they do! My husband went in today for lunch. Two couples were ahead of him. Both ordered food. When my husband ordered, the waitress told him she needed to "pre authorize his card." He asked why, and she replied it was the owners' policy. He asked why the other customers had not been asked to preauthorize. She had no response. He walked out. Have never heard of this before. We will not be going back. Would be zero stars if I could do this!! And I really wanted to try their food. read more

I usually don't review things but this one had me absolutely shocked at the service we got , I've always came here and had amazing service but today was not the case . The Burnett waitress who I didn't even get the name of because I was preoccupied telling her can we order , where is our coffee, we didn't get our third order and she didn't mention they were out of pasta and just gave us potato's and said she would take it off our tab since she never mentioned they were out come to realize she NEVER took it off !!! She never once checked on us the entire time , this is all over the place but this is exactly how it happened , she was all over the place messing around !! I couldn't even close out our tab because she was once again preoccupied gossiping about other wait staff , all the while there comes a HOARD of flies . Thankfully the one lady with glasses noticed us who was WORKING THE WHOLE TIME ,saw that we needed assistance and helped us close out are tab and gave us boxes to go , she did great a great job but I couldn't say the same for the lady who completely lacked service I had thought I'd receive once again . Brittany and the closing crew took the time at the end of the night to squeeze in an amazing meal and some drinks. Not only was the food and downtown view amazing, but they took the time to chat with us and even gave us a history lesson on their wonderful town and the building that have been here for generations. Whoever is overseeing this restaurant is doing a really great job bringing quality and friendly staff to create a comfortable environment. read more

That was not the case at Gourmage. Stephanie was aloof and mostly answered my questions with one word responses. I did not feel welcomed. There was only one other couple at Gourmage at the time. While the candies were delicious, I will likely not return. Customer service is extremely important to me.

Every person that enters this establishment is greeted. And it is real! The staff actually remembers you and that doesn't happen even in this town. There is an amazing food truck out back in case you want a great burger. Fish tacos. Bacon wrapped shrimp. Shrimp cocktail. Mm. They carry lots of local beers too. Love. Love this place.

It was a very tasty way to start dinner with some delicious German beer and wine selections. All the schnitzel was delicious and you can choose pork, chicken or veal with most of them as well as your choose of sides. My husband chose the spatzle which is a German pasta- very yummy. Most entrees come with a choice of soup or salad and they lap brought some delicious marbles rye bread and butter to the table. I chose the pork jager-rham schnitzel with a mushroom and sour cream gravy. It was heaven. The meal was fantastic and we will definitely be back! The only complaint y husband had was that he thought the waitress was trying a little too hard to rush the orders / drinks and meal which kind of annoyed him. He usually tops 25-30% but only tipped 20 due to feeling like he couldn't enjoy his meal because he was being rushed. To be fair- it is summer and their busy season, but I would recommend that could ease up a bit with rushing the orders. This is a seated restaurant- not McDonald's. People want to enjoy their meal and the delicious food. We would have ordered a lot more drinks and cocktails if we had the opportunity. Overall- we loved it and will definitely visit again when we are back!

I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, it's got a home like feel. The staff always treats you like family. It's my daughter's birthday and she wanted to float down the river. So that means a trip to Clear Springs. First up a small order of onion rings. They were so good, the crisp outer batter and thick onions. Next up my youngest had the Shrimp Po Boy. It had a nice flavor from lettuce tomatoes and tangy dressing. The shrimp were fried well. My oldest daughter had the Fish Tacos. They were bright and fresh but needed a little more zing. My son had the Combination (fish and fried crawfish)- the crawfish were tasty and had a good batter. My Seafood Grill was amazing. The shrimp brochettes were amazing, loved the grilled catfish. I'm not usually a fan of blackened catfish but this one was good. My wife had the cup of Cajun Gumbo. It wasn't bad but it was chunky and that's not my style. We ended with the Chocolate Cake for dessert since it was my oldest daughter's birthday. It was the perfect end, the pecans added a saltiness that balanced out the richness of the chocolate.

Unfortunately, our experience did not meet those expectations. Upon checking in, we were initially directed to a table that had not been cleaned. When my boyfriend politely asked if we could be seated at a booth that was currently being cleared, the host initially agreed. However, she then seated two other guests, who were white and had arrived after us at that same booth. Given the circumstances and the subsequent request to wait for a different table, this incident opened our eyes to potential racial bias, and we felt it was best to leave and dine elsewhere. I believe your host staff would benefit from additional training regarding equitable service and professional conduct. It is truly a shame that our visit was handled in this manner, as we had hoped for a much more welcoming evening. I wanted to bring this to your attention in the hope that it helps improve your service for future guests.
