Our bed was a queen-size sleigh bed. The design fit perfectly with the antique furniture that decorated the room. There is an en suite powder room with toilet and sink, down the hall a few steps is your own bathroom with modern tub and shower, toilet and sink. Our bed was amazingly comfortable and made with exquisite linens and a light weight comforter. There was also an extra quilt for our use, but we did not need it. Although the fireplace cannot be used as it is original to the historic building, our room was warm and comfortable, We were asked what time we wanted breakfast, which is very nice indeed. The breakfast, was bountiful and delicious. We were offered baked apple, accompanied by gluten free granola, and yogurt, farm fresh eggs, bacon and our choice of coffee or tea. I was pleasantly surprised to find a tea chest on the breakfast table with a very large selection of teas. If you are looking for the epitome of an early nineteenth century house-turned B&B, this is the place for you. The charm of the house is only superseded by the warmth graciousness of the hosts.

Unfortunately, the rest of our stay was pretty frustrating. For starters, watch out for the parking. I was under the impression that parking in the adjacent garage was complimentary for guests, but I only found out after checking out that they charge $15 a day. To make matters worse, the elevator inside the garage was out of service, with an old sign posted that looked like it had been sitting there for months. As a Marriott Gold Elite member, I booked our room through the Bonvoy app and attempted to check in beforehand, but the system wouldn't let us. I also requested a mobile key, but those weren't available either because the hotel was apparently in the middle of a system upgrade. When we arrived, our reservation had somehow assigned us an accessible room, which temporarily locked us out of the other available options. Thankfully, the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful in getting the reservation sorted out. The lobby itself was clean and well-kept. Once we got up to our room on the ninth floor, things went downhill. The room had a terrible, musty smell. It clearly used to be a room where smokers stayed--that heavy tobacco stench had completely saturated the carpet and walls, and no amount of cleaning spray could hide it. The windows were filthy, and the entry door looked like someone had previously tried to pry it open with a crowbar. The worst part of the night was the air conditioner. It's an ancient unit that rattled and sounded like a diesel truck engine every time it kicked on. Between the smell and the noise, it kept us up for most of the night. It's a great location, but given the state of the room and the garage situation, I wouldn't stay here again.

The staff was courteous and helpful but it's time for the elevators to be updated - they use contact paper that looks like wood to give the impression that the elevators have been updated. The flooring inside the elevators needs to be seriously replaced. I'm surprised at the level of not paying attention to detail. Disappointed that this is a Marriot Bonvoy brand.

The restaurant is part of a hotel operated on an updated estate. The restaurant is located in a beautiful classic white house. The bar has stunning emerald wall coloring adjacent to a glass window. The main dining room is lovely. Top grades for atmosphere. They even have a Michelin Star for the Hotel. Other than our server having a temporary memory lapse about the flavor profile of sorrel , service was pretty much perfect. Friendly. Helpful. Efficient. For example, our server was able, at our request, to serve Belden House's famous chocolate chip cookies even though they weren't on the dinner menu. They were delicious. The food ranged from good to very good. My wife and I split (1) sourdough focaccia and cultured butter; (2) shrimp with fennel in a sorrel sauce, (3) pappardelle with pork shoulder; (4) green garlic linguine with clams, preserved lemon and sake; and (5) Short Rib with persimmons and sunchokes. The bread was very good. The shrimp had good texture and that dish was cool visually. I was a fan of both pasta dishes. They both had a nice acidity, which you don't always see with pasta dishes. The shredded pork was tasty. The short rib wasn't a highlight for me, but it was good. It had a firmer texture than I'm used to. The persimmons brought a cool shape and color, but I didn't love the flavor with the short rib. We had a great experience. I recommend Belden House for an upscale night. 4.5 Stars

We then sat in the tavern and had two well made drinks, my wife loves a good French Martini and they made an excellent one. They the called us to the upstairs dinning room and sat us by the window overlooking the path down through the open space towards the Spa. The sun was setting at the tree tops. We decided to try the 4 course dinner instead of the 3 because all the dishes sounded so good we didn't want to skip any. Anthony took care of us but there were also others making sure we had everything we needed. I added pictures for each. The bread was fresh and tasty, shrimp cocktail and a whole radish with a nice dip, the salad was great with watermelon and plums, the game bird (can't remember the name) was perfectly cooked with fresh figs, the pasta starters were fantastic one with red sauce and sausage the other with a pesto sauce with pine nuts -yum. The main was a filet mignon perfectly cooked medium rare with creamy mashed potatoes and a delicious sauce. Finally the desserts were great, 1 chocolate mousse and one cheese plate.
