That caught my attention. I'm a great lover of historic buildings. This one has enjoyed several different lives, but the newest iteration opened in 2024. The owners have paid close attention to many details that show they value the history of the building - from the furniture in the multiple small dining rooms to the reproduction wallpaper on the walls. I loved the use of large candles in the fireplaces to replicate the light of a fire. Our meals were from the Prix Fixe Menu for $50 per person. I was delighted to see later that Lost Fox Inn advertises a Prix Fixe Menu on Thursdays for $60 per person. I enjoyed the Corn Chowder soup appetizer, which was different from any chowder I've ever eaten but very flavorful. My main course was Orecchiette, a delightful maitake and shiitake mushroom pasta dish that is flavored with lemon, pecorino Romano, rosemary, oregano and topped with breadcrumbs. Dessert was a chocolate mousse topped with pickled blackberry and mint. Really delicious. We booked an early dinner and were delighted to find that we were the only ones seated in our small dining room. As the hour progressed, more and more people filled the room, and interestingly each group took advantage of the restaurant week menu (many of the items are on the regular dinner menu). The wait staff was very attentive, checking in and answering questions about the menu items. I look forward to a return visit because the food was really outstanding.

Other than our server having a temporary memory lapse about the flavor profile of sorrel , service was pretty much perfect. Friendly. Helpful. Efficient. For example, our server was able, at our request, to serve Belden House's famous chocolate chip cookies even though they weren't on the dinner menu. They were delicious. The food ranged from good to very good. My wife and I split (1) sourdough focaccia and cultured butter; (2) shrimp with fennel in a sorrel sauce, (3) pappardelle with pork shoulder; (4) green garlic linguine with clams, preserved lemon and sake; and (5) Short Rib with persimmons and sunchokes. The bread was very good. The shrimp had good texture and that dish was cool visually. I was a fan of both pasta dishes. They both had a nice acidity, which you don't always see with pasta dishes. I'm not sure why she doesn't have more staff support, but she handled everything with patience & grace, even when there were 10-15 people waiting. She deserves recognition & backup. I did notice the hotel seems to attract a mixed crowd, possibly due to the price point, but that shouldn't reflect on the hotel itself. Unfortunately, the rest of our stay was pretty frustrating. For starters, watch out for the parking. I was under the impression that parking in the adjacent garage was complimentary for guests, but I only found out after checking out that they charge $15 a day. To make matters worse, the elevator inside the garage was out of service, with an old sign posted that looked like it had been sitting there for months. As a Marriott Gold Elite member, I booked our room through the Bonvoy app and attempted to check in beforehand, but the system wouldn't let us. I also requested a mobile key, but those weren't available either because the hotel was apparently in the middle of a system upgrade. When we arrived, our reservation had somehow assigned us an accessible room, which temporarily locked us out of the other available options. Thankfully, the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful in getting the reservation sorted out. The lobby itself was clean and well-kept. Once we got up to our room on the ninth floor, things went downhill. The room had a terrible, musty smell. It clearly used to be a room where smokers stayed--that heavy tobacco stench had completely saturated the carpet and walls, and no amount of cleaning spray could hide it. The windows were filthy, and the entry door looked like someone had previously tried to pry it open with a crowbar. The worst part of the night was the air conditioner. It's an ancient unit that rattled and sounded like a diesel truck engine every time it kicked on. Between the smell and the noise, it kept us up for most of the night. It's a great location, but given the state of the room and the garage situation, I wouldn't stay here again.

It was right before sunset, so we got to enjoy the gorgeous view of the land, trees, and lake while the August sun went down. There was a lovely breeze and we enjoyed our meal under twinkling string lights. There were tons of beautiful flowers blooming around the grounds, and we enjoyed lawn games on the rolling green grass. The next day, for the ceremony, we were located down by the lake. The ceremony took place on a lawn in front of a beautiful old tree, facing the water. Afterwards, we made our way into the old barn and enjoyed cocktail hour and the reception. The space was well designed and the whole experience was magical; candles and simple draperies. A beautiful breeze flowed through the venue as the rumble of thunder echoed in the distance. Despite the thunderstorm that passed through, we were safe and dry inside the barn. All in all, one of the most beautiful and magical wedding venues I've seen.
