Another amazing meal at the Milton Inn. Our family stopped by in a cold entry night and we're welcomed into a warm and happy place. After a delicious amuse bouche of curried carrot veloute, we ordered a five course meal. We enjoyed an endive salad with delicious sliced apple and blue cheese. Next was thin strips of tuna. Then two perfectly prepared scallops. Next delicious flavor, flavorful beef, tenderloin with seared Hudson foie gras. We finished with luscious tarte tatin with Carmel sauce. The service was amazing. We had a wonderful time!

This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in awhile. The Milton Inn is a stunning establishment with delicious fresh dishes. The restaurant is rustic and has different dining rooms maintaining the "inn" experience. The service was professional and attentive. I came for my birthday and so naturally we ordered alot of dishes to try, which worked well because most portions were smaller and easy to enjoy. The best french onion soup ever, the broth was dark and had so much flavor. Escargot was buttery and smooth best dipped with their fresh bread. The oysters were a great size. Both entrees were cooked to perfection. The duck fell off the bone, the potatoes underneath were crispy. Overall I would 1000% come back. It is pricey, especially with the portions but very worth it.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place. We went for Christmas Eve dinner and they had a three course meal option. First course I chose a mushroom bisque to die for. I swear they are the master of soups, I've never not felt like I was eating the best soup I ever had. Second I chose the seared scallops which came out perfectly cooked. We had the sommelier recommend a good wine to pair. Finally a delicious dessert... I couldn't remember the name but I made sure I ate every last bit! The Milton Inn is always a great experience. Its decor and rooms give it a romantic feel and makes it the perfect space to celebrate. To top it off- the staff is extremely friendly. We had wonderful conversations with everyone from the bartenders before we were sat for dinner, to the host who kept checking in on us while we waited, to the servers who are professional and friendly.

I finally made it to The Milton Inn and the experience was exceptional. Chef Cindy Wolf has done it again and this time, in a converted farm house located in a rural area in Monkton, MD. The building itself is just stunning with multiple dining rooms, a bar area, and an outdoor patio. You get the sense that you could have a seat in any one of the rooms here and feel like you had the whole place to yourself. Each room is private, intimate, and beautifully decorated. It feels like an old school hunting lodge or something. The front dining room would make for a lovely place for a private event or small rehearsal dinner. The food was absolutely delicious, as expected. We got so many appetizers including the steak tartare, the snails, salad, oysters, and foie gras. The steak tartare was made gluten free for me by serving the brioche topping and egg on the side. Even without the extra richness of the egg yolk, it was a delicious dish. The oysters were pretty good, the snails were exactly the same as those found at Petit Louis, and the foie gras was soo rich and melt-in-your-mouth good. For my entree, I opted for the steak and asked for mashed potatoes instead of fingerlings. However, I received fries which I didn't complain about because they were still good. In classic Cindy Wolf style, the steak is served drenched in herbed butter - just perfection. For dessert, we had scoops of the pistachio and vanilla ice cream which was pretty good. The dirty martini that the bartender, Jake, made was perfect. I am pretty picky about my martinis but he hit the nail on the head. We also enjoyed a bottle of wine which came highly recommended. It was very good but we were a bit surprised by the price once the bill came out - it was a $120 bottle. Yikes! We obviously should've asked about the price before taking the recommendation. So with all that said, this was a very expensive meal. Definitely not something we'd splurge on often but a nice treat to enjoy alongside our friends. If you plan to come here, I'd recommend it for a special ocassion. And if you're coming for a casual evening, grab a seat at the bar and stick to the basics on the menu. Since the menu is very well rounded, you could easily spend $50 here or $500.

Great food and service! Made a reservation about a week in advance for my husband's birthday. We live a 5 minute drive away and have always wanted to dine here. They offer two dining options, a multi course menu starting at $99 per person, or their tavern menu which is more casual. We went with 3 savory courses + 1 sweet. Every course was perfect and a great size. The flow of service was also top-tier, with each new plate arriving within 10 minutes after we finished our last. Staff was very attentive. Only "complaint" is the closeness of the tables in the first dinning room. It felt like we were dinning with the people beside us. Overall great experience at the Milton Inn. I love the concept of having a choice between a fancy multi course dinner and a more casual, but still delicious tavern menu. I've already requested this for my birthday dinner in February! Cannot wait to return to try items from the tavern menu as well!

My husband and I had dinner at the Milton Inn last night after a concert in Monkton. The restaurant is a 280+ year old fieldstone house that closed in 2020 after 70 years in business but was purchased and reopened by Foreman Wolf (one of the best restaurant groups in Baltimore). The building is absolutely gorgeous. The outdoor space looked beautiful, but we had a reservation for indoors, and the interior has been so well restored and maintained - tons of character. (FYI - the building is hundreds of years old and does have steps and different levels, but the staff were really great at pointing out the steps on the way to our table. Just pointing it out in case anyone in your party has mobility issues.) The food, wine, and service were everything I've come to expect from a Foreman Wolf restaurant. The wine list was impressive; we had a nice bottle of Sancerre. We shared their gratineed raspberry point oysters (served with duck bacon and garlic and herb breadcrumbs), which were delicious, and a side Mesclun greens salad. I had the grilled swordfish Grenobloise (roasted sprouting cauliflower, brioche croutons, citrus, and caper brown butter), and my husband had the grilled venison leg (with aligot potatoes, badger flame beets, cipollini onions, and rosemary juniper sauce). The swordfish was great (very well cooked), and so was the venison (another great cook on the venison). We couldn't agree on desserts so we each got our own (citrus entremet for me, chocolate mousse for him). The entremet was a little dry for me but delicious, and my husband loved the mousse. The service and ambiance are top-notch. It's a really nice place, classic, traditional, and a little bit fancy (we were a little underdressed from our concert earlier in the day). Definitely a lovely restaurant for a special night out. I'd happily return.

One of my new fav spots for dinner! We stopped by to celebrate our 6 month wedding anniversary (life is short--celebrate often!!) and had a great evening. The ambiance is very cozy--it feels like you're having an intimate dinner in your rich French great aunt's home (but in the absolute best way). With beautiful artwork along the walls, a fireplace, and cozy corners--this is a great spot for a romantic evening. Service was friendly and knowledgeable! We also lucked out that we stopped in on Wednesday. Like Foreman Wolf's other restaurant, Cinghiale, The Milton Inn does "Wine Cellar Raid Wednesdays" where almost all bottles of wine are 50% off. It's a perfect way to splurge on a more expensive bottle than usual! The meal was fantastic. We had the onion soup gratinée, gnocchi, NY strip, and the apple pumpkin tart. They even brought dessert out with a little candle to help us celebrate! We also had a bottle of Pinot noir, and for dessert a glass of champagne and port wine. Everything was great and I am looking forward to our return already!

Beautiful setting, excellent service and delicious meal with a few suggestions noted. The amazing burger would be so much better on a brioche bun than the dry potato bun we had last night. But the frites were great! The rockfish was served on a presentation of beautiful seasonal tomatoes that were squishy as in over ripe - not squishy because the heat of the fish cooked them. The salad portions are huge. All 4 of us ordered salads without knowing that a half portion could have been ordered off-menu. We were told after commenting on their large size. Lastly, although the menu has many highlights from Petit Louis, it is not entirely French bistro and it would have been enhanced by offering a crab cake. I was hoping for a slightly more Maryland flair. These are pretty nitpicky comments from huge Foreman-Wolf fans. Just a little input to make our meal perfect next time . Loved our wine.

We came back to the Milton Inn for Restaurant week. We sat upstairs which we never had before, and it was nice, although not as nice as the main dining room. We did the restaurant week menu which had a nice selection. The corn chowder was amazing! the cucumber salad was very good. Both the halibut and the venison entrées were very good. For dessert we both had the peach cobbler, which was also delicious. The service was very friendly, although we had to wait a very long time for cocktails and there were a couple times where they forgot things like silverware. All in all I think this place is close to five stars just not quite there.

The Milton Inn is classic elegant dining with all the trimmings. All the staff were attentive and genuinely helpful with wine recommendations and menu choices. The menu is French inspired. All our dishes were as beautiful as they were delicious.

Upon our arrival, we were seated near a window overlooking the sidewalk where we were able to watch people passing by while enjoying our candlelit meal. 10 out of 10 for atmosphere at this charming and cozy table. The service was prompt and attentive. We started by enjoying a few of the craft cocktails, which were simply wonderful and the product of a talented and adept bartending. If your idea of a good cocktail involves slush or machines, this is probably not the place for you. I enjoyed a dirty martini, as did my youngest daughter. My oldest daughter enjoyed a French 75. All lovely and all perfectly mixed. I would return here if nothing more than the cocktails! For starters, my daughter shared the Pate De Campagne, which consisted of country style pâté, cornichons and toast points. They loved it! My wife enjoyed the Salad Verte and I loved the Roquefort Salad. Both salads were simply marvelous and went well with the freshly baked bread. On to the main event! Fo her entree, my youngest daughter had the Roasted Cornish Hen. She had never had Cornish hen before, but this particular rendition made her a fan of the dish. Perfectly cooked, juicy and savory. My older daughter enjoyed the Salmon en Croute. The salmon was perfectly cooked to the correct temp and the pastry was spot on. A lovely dish and one I will try on our next visit. My wife and I each devoured the Chicken Paillard. This is one of those dishes that is so simple, but the lemon butter knocks your socks off. If it wasn't such a lovely restaurant, I might have licked my plate. Yes....it was that good. I ate every last caper! For dessert, we shared a portion of the luxurious pistachio cheesecake. An excellent ending to an amazing meal. This charming restaurant is a jewel in the heart of Herndon. I highly recommend it for your next special occasion. We look forward to returning soon!

The aesthetics were elegant and on the dimmer side, especially if you're seating at the corner tables away from the light, we recommend sitting closer to the light or by the entrance if there's still light out. We really loved the crab croquettes appetizer, which had a perfectly crispy exterior that complimented perfectly with the moist interior mixture of potato and crab that paired very well with the aioli. The crispy potato that accompanied the NY strip was perfectly balanced as well, with the crispiest exterior that I ever had with a potato dish! Unfortunately that was the highlight to the entire dish, for the strip was extremely lean without any fat or marbling to help balance out the leanness of the steak (which is evident in the attached photos below). Usually a NY strip, even if grass fed, would still have a strip of fat on the outer layer, but ours did not have any at all, which you can see from all slices we've made. We weren't hoping for ribeye-quality fats at all, but just one that wasn't completely lean. The creamed spinach was also quite bitter and watery, which definitely diluted its creaminess unfortunately; you can see from the photo the wateriness in the creamed spinach where the cream began separating. We love their menu and the restaurant's elegant vibe, as well as how beautifully the food was presented, but unfortunately we were left disappointed by our main entree. I highly recommend their crab croquettes so please give that a try if you can, I promise you won't regret it! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

I was taken back with that gesture and acknowledgment although it's a testament to the service and care you will experience. This venue and team do the little thing right and will exceed expectations! Regarding the service, it was second to none with multiple staff and waiters at your side. The Smokehouse offers several dining options and host large parties and even weddings. The restaurant is huge and in associated with the historic Atrium 1844 hotel and property nestled on about 25acres. To the food: There are a few options to order from the menu and if you like wine pairing this is the spot. I chose the pairing option for my duck appetizer, scallop dinner and desert although didn't opt for champagne that complemented the surprise chef offering or my dinner salad. My wife had the beet salad, cod entree, dinner salad and orange cake. Every dish was incredibly prepared with no complaints. I envision the kitchen being hustled like the Netflix series, BEAR with echos of, "yes Chef". This was truly a special dining and something I strongly recommend if it's in your budget. The ambiance of the old early American estate is breathtaking and the piano puts you in a calm for the evening of wonderful indulgence. Again, and my opinion reserve this venue for a special affair. Total bill was $270 minus tip. Sounds crazy but if you have the time and wish to create a special touch to a special occasion, the Smokehouse is a sound choice. Dispelling the myth that French cuisine is pretentious, we felt like we were in a home, and that we would be fed full to the brim. Came in while it was packed late into the night. We were sat immediately and had a wonderful time. Our waitresses were patient and had great recommendations for our first time trying French food. They seem incredibly experienced and added comfort in the way they spoke to their customers and ran their tables. We were even greeted by the owner who was great and cheery to each table he visited. The one night we went, it was incredibly packed with people having intimate, lighthearted, and laughter-filled gatherings, tables with multiple rounds of wine, everyone sharing their fries, and so he should feel proud of this place. Touches like this made it as though we were dining in someone's house. And I love that they start you off generously with bread and butter. Its a type of french loaf that is nice and fluffy, and I'd recommend setting some on the side if you're ordering a brothy dish. We ordered Moules Marinières, which came in a delightfully large cauldron of juicy plump clean muscles swimming in an herbaceous-garlicky white wine sauce. Unassumable from the simplicity of ingredients they threw together, but incredibly complex in flavor. This is one of the few times I actually tasted bay leaf, and amongst the fewer times I found the use of rosemary not be so overpowering. The mussel liquor at the bottom was perfect when soaked up in bread. What an incredible dish. We also tried a classic, Le Steak Maison, which was also distinctively flavorful. Our steak had a perfect cook at medium rare, and was uniquely seasoned with some sort of blend of herbes de provence. The fries were pretty standard and substantial, but paired with the Béarnaise sauce, it was such a tangy play of richness and acidity. Again really simple ingredients just executed so well. Great job, looking forward to coming again to try more on this large menu.

It was a short and lovely walk from my hotel, and I was dining alone and initially I wasn't sure how I felt about having a solo dining experience at an upscale restaurant. My concerns were immediately dispelled as soon as I opened the restaurant door. Two men greeted me and were incredibly gracious and welcoming. They quickly found my reservation and asked me if it was my first time at the restaurant and what brought me to town. Since it was pretty early for dinner (6pm on a Monday) they gave me options for where I wanted to sit, confirming that the lounge seating I reserved was best for me because it placed me near the large bay windows that faced the harbor and the setting sun. My waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. He not only knew the menu, but he had tasted several items and gave me direct feedback on items. I decided on the three-course menu with wine pairing. For starters, I had the fried oysters. The fry was light and crisp, and oysters were flavorful, still holding the freshness of the ocean. The olive bread serving was a nice touch. The second course was white truffle fettuccine with mushrooms. The mushrooms were tender, absorbing the flavor of the seasoning. The fettuccine was fresh, light and richness of the white truffle was a perfect compliment, but not overpowering. The third course was crispy wild halibut with a zucchini beignet. Again, they do a beautiful job with frying fish. The fish with lightly fried enough to get a nice crispy, but with no oily after taste. The zucchini beignet was crisp and fresh. The tartar sauce for the halibut gave the elevated dish a hearty, fun, comfort food finish. The wine pairings were perfection. From the Cremant d'Alsace Brut bubbly, which offered a refreshing and bright flavor to go with the light oysters, and even the Chardonnay, Dehlinger, which offered a citrus accent that was a nice balance with the warm, rich embrace of the fettuccine dish, Charleston sommelier experts make every effort to ensure that pairing enrich the dining experience. For those looking for an elevated dining experience in Baltimore by the Harbor, where you really feel taken cared of, I'll suggest visiting Charleston. Every staff member I engaged with, even as a solo diner, made me feel like I was a treasured guest.

The major hiccup we experienced was my gluten free lamb shank pasta being sent to the vegetarian sitting at the table next to us. Watching this unfold and the server's exasperated reaction was very awkward. That being said, the manager (or maitre d?)'s graceful handling of the situation thereafter was great. He told us what happened, played it off well, explained that it would be a bit of a wait for our next course as a result, and ended up comping all our wine. Really classy touch. However, even after the long wait for the pasta, it was ultimately under-salted under-seasoned and not impressive at all. As much as I appreciate the gluten free option, I wish I had just gotten something else especially after all that trouble! The rest of the service throughout the night was also oddly paced. We ordered less courses than last year (only three) but we were there for almost four hours. Tables around us who arrived after us were served their first courses before we even had a chance to order. We were asked to pick out a wine first before choosing our food and since we weren't sure what we were eating, we weren't ready to select a wine. Even just getting the food menu took a bit of waiting around. Our server didn't inquire about any food allergies either so it was tough making decisions when I wasn't sure what was gluten free - and this was an allergy that was noted in our reservation, too. At another point, I asked for a glass of red wine three different times until finally the maitre d grabbed it for me after the pasta debacle happened. As for the rest of my meal, the scallops and lobster soup were both yummy but not anything life changing. However, my boyfriend's lamb chop dish was very very delicious. The one bite I had, paired with the pomegranates, was heaven. By the way, they offer gluten free bread service too. Has the Charleston lost their touch after the recent James Beard press? I'm not sure but I do hope they step things back up again. You come to expect a little more from an institution like this, especially after being totally blown away last year.

Great service like that still matters. Bird went with the crab cake and was already planning her next visit halfway through dinner. I started with the shrimp cocktail, followed by the Caesar salad and filet, all outstanding. Everything was paced perfectly and cooked exactly right. And then came dessert...which somehow topped everything else. Incredible way to finish the night. Between the food, atmosphere, and service, it was the perfect spot to celebrate 20 years, plenty of laughs, good memories, and another adventure for the books. Highly recommend.

This was my first time dining at Josephine's. We enjoyed the laid-back not rushing us evening. Our server took our drink orders then came back to ask if we wanted to place any appetizer orders. We ordered the mussels and shrimp appetizer. It was absolutely amazing! They were in a herb butter sauce. We were also given a bread service to which we immediately wiped up the butter sauce! I went with the crabcake, which was the sizes of softball and was full of lump crab. The potatoes and vegetables were delicious. My friend ordered the salmon and she said it was perfectly cooked. She also got the potatoes and vegetables. We each ordered a dessert. I went with the choux Cage which I enjoyed, but didn't like the chocolate that they were sitting on. Once I figured that out, I really enjoed the dessert. My friend ordered the Chocolate Rocher dessert and loved every bite of it. It was definitely a treat to go to Josephine's and I hope I get the opportunity to come back.

My fiance wanted a particular French mushroom dish and this restaurant happened to have it. Add to it the Noir French Jazz vibes and it makes for one heck of a date. The service was quick and courteous. The show girls were a ton of fun and the band was talented. My fiancée was surprised and very happy with the whole experience. My girl quite hilariously said that the bread was tragically authentic, LOL! She's not wrong, it was pretty hard but it was also very good. The duck confit and savory crépe I would have loved it if they made that into an entree because I'd have eaten a whole plate of it. It was delicious! The short rib bourguignon was super tender, very delicious but the serving size is pretty small. I was surprised I ended up feeling full at the end but it's probably cuz I ate plenty of the bread and drinking and all that good stuff. The wild mushroom dish was very flavorful but my girl wasn't quite as fond of the puff pastry acting as the bowl. Outside of that we both loved it. It's not a cheap date, but it is a good date. I'm glad we went! This is definitely a place I feel comfortable recommending if you're looking for a little more high-end night out.
