After trying the Model Bakery in Napa on our last trip, we knew we wanted to stop in to this location (as we were planning on being in St Helena for the day) to get some of their famous English Muffins to bring back home (to VA). We stopped in around lunchtime and the line was through the entire joint and out the door, but it didn't take too long to get through it and buy 2 6-packs of these incredible muffins to go. My only issue is they're extremely expensive and hardly worth the cost, even though they taste great. Service by the cashiers was blah and basic. The place is quaint, but nice. Overall, we'll definitely be back, as long as they keep making these things. I just think they really need to reduce the price to "pre-Oprah" prices! read more

Decent Blueberry Scone. I wanted to try a few other pastries, but had some self control on this particular day. I was in the area wine tasting and wanted to get something quick before the wine part of my day. Huge selection of baked goods. Coffee and sandwiches as well. The downside here was the lack of service. I stood in front of the pastries for some time trying to decide and the 2 girls behind the counter never acknowledged me. After deciding, I made my way over to the register where I asked for the scone. They also don't have a restroom here, so you probably don't want to consume your drinks here either. Started off great enjoy the food and all but my wife bought a cake and we didn't try it till we got home and just to have to toss it. She got a no four chocolate cake with raspberry on top and the raspberry had mold on them when she went to pick it off the top to eat it. Can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet. Ever since I've heard about this place, whenever we're in the area, I have to stop by and grab some of their English muffins. They are not good for my waistline but they're oh so delicious. They may sell them individually but I get the 6 pack for $14. Which is super pricey compared to the English muffins you can get at the supermarket. But these are way superior. Freshly baked and buttery and airy. I love to toast them and add a bit more butter and some jam. I've tried some of their other things like their cookies and this past time, we got an almond croissant. Its really only 3.5 stars based on what we ordered. We got the classic breakfast sandwich, which consists of their to die for english muffin, scrambled eggs, canadian bacon and cheddar. The wine country spin on the McD's egg mcmuffin if you must. It is about 10 levels above it but common sense tells that coffee and muffin shouldn't be almost 15bucks, really its flour and water. The cheese, ham and egg really over power the muffin. The saving grace was I did get bite with very little egg and cheese which allowed the muffin to come through, it was mighty decent. While we came for the famous English Muffins (they sold out early!) we left with Cranberry Walnut Levain and coffee. The staff is efficient and courteous. I'm going to be short and sweet about this one. This place is now a con-job. I base my opinion based on their Caesar salad price point and new size. I have been in the area for the last 25 years and today I went to see if they had any salads and to my surprise they had Caesar salad, which was my favorite there, and noticed that they were in small containers similar to what they put sliced pies in and that's the problem. For about $12-$14 in the past you would have gotten the same salad in a large container and for $11.99 you get the same things for 2/3rds the amount of food. I held the container in my hand and it weighed less than 1 pound. I understand inflation and cost of goods, but good lord they price for the salad is not worth it. I have also noticed that their cookies are much smaller, their "pizza slices are about 25% smaller and prices have gone up about 34%. I have done the math and it looks like it's a money grab now and they are just schilling the locals and visitors left and right. To top it off their workers have no customer service experience and that's a huge set back for me. I am going to be recommending to friends, family and clients not to go there anymore and just make their way to Bouchon or Sweetie Pies. Never going back. read more

Second stop on our Napa/St Helena trip took us here. There is no shortage of dining destinations in this area and my friends are knowledgeable in finding places like this. After attending an event at a winery up the road, we drove back to downtown to this mud block store. Finding street parking a few doors down mid afternoon, we joined a small line of six to eight people. The line later split as someone opened the register by the coffee station which certainly shortened the wait. Absolutely my favorite local bakery. I ordered the Gateau Basque for Christmas and it was a total hit! Decided to go pick it up at the St Helena shop so we could order a breakfast sandwich. I was working in town. I stumbled into the temporary place in the alley while they are remodeling. The staff in the store were very kind and helpful. The food looks great. I had a great basic cup of coffee. It was very good. I had to try the chorizo burrito. It was well worth it. You must try this. The staff there was great. The food I ate tasted great. I'm going to go back and try something for lunch. The sandwiches look great. If your passing through town on the main highway you have to stop in and taste the fresh bread and pastries. The fact that they do not have restrooms for customers means they are breaking California state law. When I asked to use their restroom after making a $20 purchase I was rudely told to go to Chevron.
