I appreciate the response from the manager regarding my last review. But an apology and promise to do better is not enough to make me want me to try again. I live in town and could easily go back. But, why would I gamble on paying for another bad experience? And to top it off, being asked for a tip before I have received any service? Good or bad? We tipped...and still got terrible service. I'm really not sure why this place has such rave reviews, and why it's so famous. My mother-in-law loves this place, and we have another friend that wanted to make this a stop on our recent trip to Napa. I haven't a clue why. We've come here a couple times. The most recent time we tried their bread, which was decent, good, but really just average, and nothing special. There is no X factor, like how you have in your first bite of Tartine bread. There is no X factor in even the cookie we had. I guess they are supposed to be famous for their English Muffins, but we didn't get any...perhaps next time? They do have hot food items here too, like breakfast burritos, which we did order one for our friends. The breakfast burrito took a solid 15 min wait - very frustrating on our way to wine tasting. The shop is kind of dated, but not even in a cute way. The layout is a little awkward, with cafe self-serve seating in the middle, and the line forming on the opposite side of the bakery, so you have to walk through people sitting down. I had to check out this place since it was on Oprah's list of her favorite places. I got here around lunch on a Thursday. The place wasn't too busy. I looked at the menu and was glad that there were things that would fill me up for lunch and decided to go with the breakfast sandwich. The bread was toasted, which added a nice touch to the sandwich because I was dreading the chewiness that comes with the muffins. The cheese was gooey just like the commercials when you separate the 2 halves of the sandwich. The flavor didn't completely blow me away, but it was nice and I was hungry so I finished the whole thing. Overall, I can see how others would like it. Model bakery is living on the reputation of their English muffins. This Thanksgiving I ordered an apple pie and it was the worst. The apples must've been cooked first and then put in the pie and cooked again . It should've been called an applesauce pie.. Truly disappointing . And a $38 a travesty . I ordered the pie and dinner rolls a week before Thanksgiving, on the Wednesday when I went in to get the pie, the weight staff was in disarray. The counter staff were chaotic almost didn't know what they were doing. It's so sad to see that no one really trains employees anymore. Tow of the employees that were working the counter, we're actually rude to customers. Quite frankly, you can go down to buttercream bakery, in Napa and get a much better pie at half the price . We live in Rutherford so I do enjoy the English muffins , but I won't be ordering anything else from there again. So sad ! read more

My roommate wanted me to stop and get some English muffins and I got a ham and cheese croissant as well and as a morning bun and coffee, it was fast and the people were very nice although the price is a little bit steep. A friend from Sonoma recommended I check out this place as they had "the best English muffins [she's] ever tried." I had to see what the hype was and checked this place out for breakfast before a wine tasting. The wait wasn't too bad around 10am but they did sell out of their English muffins if you wanted to buy a pack. My friends and I got a Morning Bun, their Breakfast Sausage Sandwich, "The Original" Breakfast Sandwich, and the Veggie Breakfast Sandwich with bacon. All sandwiches were on an English muffin. They forgot to add the bacon to my veggie sandwich and when I informed an employee there, they were really apologetic and relayed the message quickly to get me a side of bacon. While I had finished majority of my sandwich at this point, it was still very thoughtful of them. :) Overall, I highly recommend this place and could definitely see myself going back whenever I'm in Napa Valley! read more

My friend booked us a wine tasting at 10:30 in the morning, so we had to stop by Model Bakery to make sure we didn't die. The line out the door went fast since the inside of the annex is small, and our food came out shortly after we ordered. Seating outside is limited, but we were able to snag 4 chairs. Honestly, this was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in recent memory - I was so impressed with their English muffin. We've been to this bakery a couple of times and is more a cafe' like atmosphere in an older building with tiny tables and chairs for dining in. We don't visit St. Helena as often as we do Napa where we make a point to stop at the Oxbow Market to pick up 2 packs of their English muffins. They get quite busy but the line moves quickly. I recently tried the English muffins for the first time and i must say that I was blown away by how light and delicious they were! Because I make every attempt to avoid glyphosate containing foods, I was curious as to whether or not they are made with organic, glyphosate-free flour, I went to their website. The first thing that I came across was a video which showed how the English muffins are made. In the video was a bag of Red Rose flour, which is Central Milling's non-organic line of flour, can be seen sitting on the floor in the background. This peaked my curiosity so I emailed the company to inquire. In their response, I was told that Model Bakery uses organic flour in all of their products, per the general manager. I'm not sure how old the video on their website is but it appears to contradict what I was told. I also watched a YouTube video from 2014 spotlighting their English muffins, whereby the baker can clearly be seen dumping a bag of Red Rose non-organic flour into a large mixing bowl. Further, on their website, I only see that their breads,in their ingredients list, are noted to contain organic flour. The flour in all other baked goods is listed only as, "flour" or " all purpose" flour. While it's quite possible that Model Bakery has evolved and is now using organic flour in ALL of their products, I would appreciate transparency by updating the ingredients to include organic flour if this is the case. There is no denying that these are the best English muffins that I've ever tasted but I would enjoy them even more if the owners would confirm that their products contain organic whole wheat flour (not enriched wheat) by disclosing it in each product's ingredients list. This review is in no way a criticism of their products but rather, an attempt to seek clarification on the matter addressed above. read more

We ordered on the web to speed things up like we had done at the other location numerous times. When we walked in there was a sign on top of the espresso machine saying to pick up online orders at the bar. What bar? There is a cashier area and a pickup area at the end of the espresso machine. I waited a good five plus minutes where everyone else was picking up their in store orders. The employee working that area was completely ignoring me. I was glaring at him trying to get his attention but as soon as he would almost look in my direction he would purposely look away. He would call out orders and immediately hand them out to people and immediately go back to looking away from me. I finally had to almost be rude and say hey! I asked him where to pick up my order and he said to pick it up there and gesture towards the the girl behind the espresso machine. She was not tall. She cannot be seen over the espresso machine. There's a very small gap at the end of the espresso machine that I had to peek through to get her attention. Definitely not a bar. She pulled my order from a shelf behind her. My food had been waiting and getting somewhat cold. I do not understand this system and it makes for a crappy experience. That was the first and last time at this location. read more

We got the Sausage Breakfast sandwich. Their signature English muffins (apparently Oprah's favorite) was delicious. Crisp exterior, soft fluffy interior. Really appreciated the red pepper aoli sauce that came with it too! At around $9, it's a pricier breakfast sandwich. We ordered two other pastries as well: - LEMON POPPY SEED CAKE: the icing had such a lovely strong lemon flavor, but the cake was so dry - PAIN AU CHOCOLAT: this was pretty tasty. The chocolate croissant was good, but I felt that it could taste better or have more chocolate on the inside. The cookie was really good here! Nice and soft with the chocolate melting in your mouth. The prices of the food here was typical from your normal bakeries. The pastries cost $3-$6 depending on what you got, and the breakfast sandwiches cost $8-$11. The place is packed when we came. There's a line that leads to outside. Covid-wise, no one listens to social distancing or limited capacity that much. There's small tables outside the store, but it does not distance itself from people at all. But also note that this bakery is located on a main street where people will always be walking by. Another thing to mention is not many people where masks nowadays. I understand that cases are decreasing and eventually CA is going to open up, but at the time, it is still polite to wear a mask while not eating. The deli meats were fresh, the ciabatta bread was freshly baked and the ingredient portions were generous to say the least. If you're looking for decent deli sandwich, this item is off the hook delicious. The homemade apple crumb pie is an amazing mashup of a genuine crumb cake topping and freshly baked apples and a butter crust. One of the best apple pies I've had in decades. After trying the Model Bakery in Napa on our last trip, we knew we wanted to stop in to this location (as we were planning on being in St Helena for the day) to get some of their famous English Muffins to bring back home (to VA). We stopped in around lunchtime and the line was through the entire joint and out the door, but it didn't take too long to get through it and buy 2 6-packs of these incredible muffins to go. My only issue is they're extremely expensive and hardly worth the cost, even though they taste great. Service by the cashiers was blah and basic. The place is quaint, but nice. Overall, we'll definitely be back, as long as they keep making these things. I just think they really need to reduce the price to "pre-Oprah" prices! read more
