The english muffins are delicious here, but man is the staff super rude. The lady at the cash register was unwelcoming, got my order wrong and acted all annoyed when I politely asked them to remake my drink (iced, but it came out hot) - I even apologized and she just turned her back to me and walked away. I also ordered a LOT of stuff and asked for a big bag to carry it all and she looked very annoyed...A lot has changed since the last time I visited a few years back....I wish I grabbed her name, but the lady taking my order made me never want to come back. All the bad, recent reviews about the service and rude staff are spot on. If I was the owner I would get rid of the two main girls that run the register. I was there on a Monday around 10:30 am. After winery, lunch, we went to The Model Bakery because I've been dying to buy the English Muffins people rave about. Since it was a rainy day not many customers so when I asked if there were any English Muffins left she said Yes! She mentioned it was over $3ea, or if you buy 6 it's $14 so I did that. Charge it! Next day I cut in half, put it in the toaster, and it was so light, crispy, chewy! The best thing I ate that day and I had 5 more! I did let hubby try one, he didn't think it was as special as I did. My sister asked me to stop by this spot during a trip up to Napa to pick her up some English muffins. Apparently they've made "Oprah's Favorite Things" list 2 years in a row. I walked in 30min before closing, and was able to get my hands on a few cookies, a lemon poppyseed loaf, and a latte. When asking about their English muffins, the woman at the counter had mentioned that they made 700 for the day, and that I was getting the last one! I love me a good bakery and couldn't help but splurge on cookies and pastries. The cookies were so chewy with a good chocolate chip to dough ratio, simply perfect! One of the many reasons I love Napa Valley in January is there are fewer of us. Us as in tourists. Which means in January I can walk into Model Bakery near noon on a weekday and find no line to stand in as I place my order as I did last week. It also means I can find a seat at one of the small army green tables with gunmetal gray chairs placed on the black and white checkerboard linoleum floors and eat my toasted English Muffin (with cream cheese and berry jam) in the store. All while sipping a really good and hot cup of coffee and watching the world go by on St. Helena's main street. This was what it was like "back in the day" when I lived near the Napa Valley for 20 years and spent lots of time there. It is not so much what it is like here now. I challenge you to try to walk in here without line and find a place to sit from May through October. Still, even with the lines and crowds at other months, this is a most "worth it" stop. Not only for the delicious, unique, fluffy light English Muffins. (I do not hold it against them that the Food Network touted these delights.) But for pastries of all kinds, deli salads, several options of grab and go sandwiches, order you own sandwiches, fresh baked breads and pizza by the slice. A very good set of options for before wine tasting or to pack in a picnic basket for use at a winery or park. I would wager of the bakers dozen-ish folks in the store at that noon time, my hubby and I were the only two who were not local. It must be nice for locals not to have so many tourists in the mix in January. But from two tourists who love the Napa Valley in this month, we say thanks to the local folks for putting up with all of us all the time. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: On street in downtown St. Helena is somewhere between impossible and nearly so in tourist months. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in and throughout. 2 words. English muffins. People on Yelp rave about them, and apparently they were featured on the Food Network show "Best Thing I Ever Ate". I've never been a big fan of English muffins - I always thought they were dry and boring - I've never been a fan of the Costco packs of English muffins my family buys regularly. Even as a sandwich, they're just OK. But these are very different... I'm not sure how, but they have a great combination of savory, sweet, and sour. At $2.50, they can toast it for you and it comes with butter and a seasonal jam. When toasted, it still retains its fluffy chewiness on the inside, and it's heavenly when spread with butter. The jam at the time was apricot, which was OK... but I actually preferred enjoying the flavor of the English muffin. Who knew the English muffin could be so good?! Honestly though, this is a pretty solid breakfast option in Napa if you're looking for something cheap. Especially in Downtown St. Helena. Just get a pastry and some Stumptown coffee. I highly recommend getting at least one English muffin to try, and something else. We did the morning bun and cheese danish. Cheese danish was sweeter than I expected, but not bad, The morning bun was neat because it was a fluffy cinnamon muffin that was flakey like a croissant. At least prices aren't as expensive as a certain bakery in Yountville. ;) On weekends they seem to have a brunch menu for breakfast sandwiches and biscuits and gravy, and the prices aren't bad for Napa Valley prices. Getting a table is a little tricky since there's limited outdoor and indoor seating... but people are pretty quick eating here, so just be polite and patient! Overall, if you're going through DT St Helena on your way to the wineries, stop here for a quick bite before getting wined up. =P read more

We got three different cookies today from your bakery, peanut butter, chocolate chip and snickerdoodle. They had no flavor and very hard to tell a difference between them. Everybody mentions the Model Bakery's deeeeeelicious English muffins, but my review is going to focus on the true unsung heroes here -- the baguettes and sourdough bread! People throw out the term "artisan bakery" left and right, but the Model Bakery truly lives up to that claim! Parking in downtown St. Helena is no fun but if you are lucky enough to score a spot, go inside this bakery and load up and freshly baked goodies. There are two olive oil shops down the block which make the perfect pairing to a big, crusty baguette. We stop in solely for the warm baguettes (insider tip: they'll sometimes bake fresh baguettes in the late afternoon so don't give up on your carb quest if it's after 1 pm)! Coffee, sandwiches and other goodies are also on offer but it's all about the BREAD for me. The Model Bakery is a popular place so don't get your tummy ready for something in particular or you may leave disappointed. Be ready to go with the flow; you never know what you will end up with. The Model Bakery has a pretty wide selection of breads and pastries. We ordered the original breakfast sandwich with bacon, regular latte & gingerbread latte. The breakfast sandwiches were pretty good, the English muffins definitely make it. They're a bit more dense, but light as a regular English muffin but crispy on the edges if that makes sense (you'll understand when you try one). The sandwich also comes with cheddar cheese and eggs and I'm sure it's made fresh to order, but the eggs looked & tasted a bit fake to me. The regular latte was fine, but the gingerbread latte was very bitter and sour... not sure if that's how "real" gingerbread lattes are suppose to taste, but I wouldn't get it again. After discovering this location of Model Bakery, I've decided it's much better to come here (rather than the Napa Oxbow location). Especially if you want to try their famous English Muffin, I found that the St. Helena bakery rarely runs out! I've come around 1pm and have been able to buy a 6-pack without calling ahead. But, it's also good to know you can always call or email them ahead of time and reserve a pack of their muffins. I've ordered 2 cakes from Model Bakery: One was a red velvet cake which the employee said is one of their top sellers, and the other was a berries and cream cake (white buttermilk cake with fresh strawberries and blueberries and a vanilla buttercream frosting). Both cakes were beautifully prepared and generous in size. Personally, I liked the fresh berries and cream cake more, but they were both very good. The cake was super moist, and it almost seemed like it was soaked in buttercream (like a tres leches cake). Both of the cakes were fresh, moist, and not overly rich or sweet. This place is filthy and overrun with flies! I can't imagine the amount of flies in the kitchen when there were 12 flies hanging out on one corner of the mirror above the coffee station . The window displays are littered with flies! The service is a chaotic mess. My friends and I ordered food and coffee to eat at the outside dining area. The gentleman would shout out the names from random places behind the counter (never at the pick up area)? Then the gentleman making the coffee would just place the drinks down without saying a name or the type of drink made. So it would get covered with flies and we would have to wait to ask what drinks were on that counter? The food was outright inedible. I've heard locals tell me how good this place is but coming from a more culturally diverse part of California, I was quite disappointed since the CIA is right down the street. Im currently living in a town full of people in their 50-60's and all I have to say is that it's too hyped up. My friend got the chipotle sausage sandwich, which he thought was good but quite overpriced for the three bites. He also got a hot coffee which he found to be "ehhhh fine". This bakery is amazing. Everything I have tried here is delicious. Both sweet and savory are all fantastic. I came here because my mom sent me to pick up some of their English muffins. I needed to try more of their food since everything looked so good. Their chicken salad sandwich is excellent. The bread pudding is like a little muffin, but much more rich and delicious. And yes the English muffins are fantastic. They are much greasier than regular store bought English muffins because they are fried in butter, but that is what makes them so delicious. My absolute favorite on the go breakfast spot in St. Helena. The staff is always friendly even when they first open and it's very early. There are a few spots to sit inside if you have the time and a couple tables and chairs outside, but the location is on the smaller side. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place. I've been here at least 10 times now while visiting my daughter the staff is very impatient and rude. Today the employee making the coffees hollered out is this anyone's toasted muffin. My wife said that might be mine as I did order one, so I went and asked the coffee guy who hollered it and he was snappy and rude and said no your will come out of the kitchen with the rest of your items. Then when our order came from the kitchen my wife's muffin wasn't there. My wife almost chewed him out but our daughter begged her not to because she lives here. So our daughter went and asked the only nice employee there and she went exactly where the rude guy had put it. Unfortunately by the time my wife got it, it was cold. It was thrown in the trash as we left because dealing with the staff here is impossible and I was afraid to say anything because of how we have been treated. They treat you like you're an idiot.
