the roadhouse cHiCkEn sandwich. i'd change a couple things, but overall, pretty excellent.
    Alex K.

FINALLY. i had been wanting to try TMV for years but never found my lame ass in Vegas. conveniently enough they decided to say "ope let's go to the midwest." and landed 3 miles from my house. sick! coming on day one, i expected some hiccups, and i do think it'll probably take some time for them to work that all out. from the time we came in until the time we left, it took 2 hours, and it took about 90min for the food to initially come out -- that should be expected (i hope) from people heading in for their opening weekend.. that's okay though, you'll likely spend 30min just looking over their menu. seriously, it's a biggin'. it's also hot as hell inside. i mean the kitchen's right there in the open, but keep in mind that their thermometer read 81 degrees. i ordered the roadhouse and my celiac-riddled girlfriend opted for the pad thai. the staff was crazy helpful and the chef even came out to explain what would be "most" celiac friendly, so cheers to that. the roadhouse (see: pic) is massive. it kinda looks small in the picture without something for scale, but trust me. if you've been to ale mary's, they give you about 2x as many fries, and the sandwich is twice as big. so.. come hungry as shid. seriously. the cHiCkEN looks and tastes comparable to a legit chicken breast. it's wild. the breading was crispy, too. my only critiques i think is that i'd prefer the bbq sauce have some heat to it, or to have jalapenos on the sandwich. maybe an onion ring? i'm getting greedy. as for the fries, nice. it's hard to screw fries up to be fair, but they're good. i recommend their tmv sauce with them. it's like chick-fil-a sauce without the homophobia! how fun. really the thing with this sandwich is that once you pick it up, you can't set it down -- it's a messy b, thanks in large part to the probably-should-be-strained-a-bit coleslaw. overall though, incredible. the pad thai i didn't have any of, but my girlfriend didn't seem impressed. it was oddly creamy (see: pic) and didn't taste like pad thai.. which i guess shouldn't come as a surprise, i suppose? knowing the source? she mostly said, to my surprise, that it was just overall bland. it was also $25 and a pretty meager portion, plus $3 more than my yuuge sandwich and fries. to each their own though! the prices.. yeah, they are definitely steep on the surface (the biggest shock to me happened to be the cocktails... $17-20 each with premium liquor, if i read correctly), but for the amount of food you get -- at least with the sandwiches -- it's worth it. my girlfriend and i were the only ones we saw leaving without a box of leftovers. truly, i do believe they'd be better off shaving their prices a tad and making the portions more manageable for more people, but i'm okay with that. TMV is making a point to vEgAn FoOd iSn'T FiLliNg naysayers that "your ass ain't leaving hungry!" they could also probably benefit from cutting their menu down 50-70% and focusing on meals they truly excel at, rather trying to please everybody with everything. i might be jumping the gun a bit here since today was literally their first day, but i think ale mary's vegan menu is in trouble. i see no reason to pay about the same amount for way less (and more inferior) food at that place when you can come here. regardless, it's damn nice to have another vegan restaurant option in the area, and it's especially great that it's.. well... pretty great. i'm wishing TMV a bunch of success and myself some self-discipline, because it'll be a bitch for me to refrain from ordering from this place weekly.

The food was absolutely delicious and so were the drinks. I honestly couldn't tell the difference between this Mac and traditional Mac. The wait time was a bit longer than anticipated but I'm also giving a lot of grace as they literally just opened and I know it takes time to get into the swing of things. While I understand that inflation is a thing, I'm giving four stars because $10 for a side of coleslaw is excessive. This is the second location of TMV, the first being in Vegas. My hope is that they realize that the Midwest needs more Midwest pricing and adjust to make this space more accessible, and possibly pare down the menu as there are so many choices that I worry about overall quality in the long run. I'll definitely be going back, it just won't be until a special occasion.

Good food and good service. I plan to come by again. Just remember the pricing is a bit higher than expected because the tips are preloaded. So feel free to leave an extra tip but you don't have to. Looking forward to trying some of the different dishes. This time I had the crab cakes that were delicious. I would have thought they had crab they were so good. Can't wait to try their chicken and fish dishes.

Wow. Incredible food. Prices are what you should expect for 2024 specialty food. This is a sit down restaurant with a bar that has a fast casual/takeout option. Modern, minimalistic interior as name would suggest.

    Cauliflower Wings

The Modern Vegan is a new restaurant in Royal Oak (near the Emagine Theatre. Enjoyed the cauliflower wings. Breaded and fried. Can get them tossed hot sauce or zesty BBQ sauce. Served with carrots, celery and ranch dressing. Ample portions. Also had the Breakfast Burrito. Made is chicken, tofu scramble, sautéed peppers and onions, beans, corn, lettuce, shredded cheddar, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole. Comes with breakfast potatoes and tortilla chips. Hubby had the the Chicken Mac and cheese wrap. It was huge!! The chicken is prepared in a dry rub and drizzled with maple syrup. The mac and cheese are stuffed in the wrap with coleslaw, green onions and the TMV sauce. Comes with absolutely delicious french fries. They offer outdoor seating. There is a bar section with tv's for watching sports or news. Service staff are well trained. Food service is a little slow. Great place to check imout before or after a movie or just hang out. They offer cocktails, salads, waffles, protein Buddha Bowls and dessert - of course!!

The website can see my location is Las Vegas.... But still the only pick up spot available is Michigan...

If I could leave a 0 star I would ... I usually don't leave reviews but this one of those bad experiences I feel like I needed to. I live in Las Vegas and I was ordering to pick up in Las Vegas which I have done plenty times before. The order was sent to the Michigan location for what reason I don't know, it has my location and never does that. So I get to pick up my food at the Las Vegas one and they said they didn't have it. So the Las Vegas location gave me a QR code to scan so I could order from there... again .... Even the QR code gave me the Michigan location as the only option... so I can the Michigan location and express to them what has happened and the told me to call Owner.com to get a refund... I called owner.com and they said I would not be able to get a refund even the app and the QR was messed up... so I called Modern Vegan Michigan back and she took back what she said saying I never said that ...

Dessert best thing on the menu

Parking is a hassle depending on when you go it's Royal oak . The earlier the better in my opinion . This is my second time coming the cha cha cha dessert is the best thing on the menu . My son had the great American pretzel burger he liked it . My oldest son had the taco nachos and they were decent at best. I had the chicken Alfredo regrettably worst dish there in my opinion basically they used sweet coconut milk which insane if they switch that out it will be bland but decent. The popcorn chikn is really good though I'd say go for drinks and dessert maybe a appetizer if you starving don't even .

The food was good and portioned well. The drinks were really good, but portioned very small.

The people working here were so friendly and personable with literally everyone that walked in the door. The service was top notch. It is also the most adorable place giving vibes of Lamy's food counter at Henry Ford Museum. I loved all of the options on the menu and it was so hard just picking a couple items to try. We had chicken tacos. They were so good and so fresh, I loved the sauce on top. Honestly, I am not sure if it was cheese or a sour cream type mixture, but it was creamy and flavorful. I also had the torta which was absolutely incredible. It had the same chicken as the taco. The chicken was slow cooked or stewed and shredded and was so flavorful, like a homecooked chef's kiss. The bread was fresh. I loved the sauce poured over it, making it a dipped and soaked sandwich. The carrots and cilantro, sliced radishes and sliced fresh jalapenos added a level of crunch, freshness and deeper flavor profile. I would want to get this every time. We also tried their delicious "curly" fries, which were like julienned shoestring fries fired fresh. It seemed like every dish was made fresh and right in front of you. So worth it, plus the prices are great. I would love to try their fried chicken plate, their breakfast sandwiches, and their other desserts. We talked to the man behind the counter who seemed like maybe a manager. He gave us their famous chocolate chip cookie to try. It was fresh baked and delicious. I would love to take home more of those. It looked so simple but was better than many bakeries specializing in cookies alone. He also gave us an second order of fries to take home with my leftovers, just top notch kindness and service. This man told us that OWL owns other restaurants and we would probably like them. I am open to trying more of their group but I do want to return here. This is one of those diners you would find being profiled for best kept secret or gourmet home cooked foods under the guise of fast food.

I ordered the Mediterranean skillet, lemon pancakes, and a side of biscuits and gravy. Yes, this was a heavy breakfast! The Mediterranean skillet had plenty of feta, which I LOVED but it was dry overall. There was no sauce to really bring everything together. I even got eggs over medium and the egg yolk did not add much creaminess. It was good, just not my favorite thing I've eaten. The lemon pancakes were absolutely unreal. Sooo fluffy and the cream cheese frosting was incredible. I would 100% recommend them. I also tried a side of biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was very thick, which was not my favorite, but the gravy itself was amazing, but it's the white super peppery kind, which I know is not everybody's favorite! Again, just kind of dry, even with the gravy. The service was good, and for a Saturday around 11 AM, the 20 minute wait was totally reasonable. I would definitely come back, just probably not for the skillet next time.

I used to live nearby about 25 years ago and remember coming to a diner in this area for breakfast back then. Fast forward to today--this isn't the same place, but wow, it's absolutely amazing. Right away I loved the vibe. The chalkboards with handwritten menu items and daily specials on the walls give the place so much character and charm. It feels welcoming, classic, and cool all at the same time. The customer service was excellent from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I ordered the country breakfast, which came with biscuits and gravy, eggs, toast, potatoes, and sausage--everything was spot on. I'm usually not a big hash browns person, so I really appreciated that they offer an alternative to the shredded style. I went with the cubed breakfast potatoes (not sure what they officially call them), and they were so much better--crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Between the food, the service, and the overall atmosphere, this place completely won me over. I already know I'll be back next weekend. Oak Diner has a really, really good vibe, and I'm glad I rediscovered breakfast here. Highly recommend.
