You're not going to find Himalayan street food every day, but you will in Chicago's university village area. Food is Nepali and there's some spices here that really flavor the momos (dumplings) and other items on the menu here. Try the momos fried or steamed with all different fillings like chicken, veggie, pork, and more. I tried the set to try a little bit of everything and it's great if you're hungry. The rice is fluffy, curry always hits home, and veggies a nice complement to everything. Momo has a small dining area but the food is a must try. There's also outdoor dining in the summer. Don't miss this find off Halsted!

My first time having Nepalese food! I will say I am a fan. Everything tasted soo fresh! And I like the spices in every dish! The service was great as well very nice cashier and gave use recommendations! The ambiance was open and I personally liked the feel of it as we came in! Don't do yourself wrong, give The Momo world a try!

This is my second time at this place and I came back because I do like all the flavors they have for their momos and wanted to try some more. I do think some of their flavors are better than others, which is what stops this from being a 5 star review. Like we both found the chocolate momos to be Bad and regretted trying them (I love to try a fun food item) - the chocolate was sickly sweet and the dough was thick and the combination just did not go well together. We did get the fettucine alfredo momos and the momo chaats and we enjoyed those. I think Momo World has some of the better momos I've tried in Chicago, but I probably would stick more to their fun but not too fun flavors. All in all, good meal and worth a try but not so amazing that I need to be back anytime soon.

Loved the halal momos! We had the chipotle with veggie filling, tandoori momo with chicken, and another momo with chicken and spicy sauce. The filling was delicious and the outer layer was really thin. The portions are generous and the restaurant is nice and clean. Highly recommend family style so you can try a little bit of everything.

Okay one of my favorite Nepalese spots in town! Me and my man randomly discovered this place when I first moved to Chitown for school. One of my favorite places to try different momos. Choeila momo here is to die for and who knew we could have chocolate momo and tandoori momo. My all time favorite here is jhol momo though. Everything here is really good. The service is nice. The ambiance of the spot is very cute. Fast food Nepalese place like which I loved. I have come back way too many times not to write a review! Lol so here we go! I'm pretty much a regular now!

Really good tasty food! I loved the momo (dumplings) bc they were freshly made, and the skin was really thin and fresh. My vegetarian momo w masala sauce was Amazing for $13. The bread was just like a thin nan Was lightly toasted and really good. The mango lassi was fresh and plenty and good for $4. The curry goat with basmati rice at $17 Was also good. Parking is on side streets and you have to pay $2.50/hour via the ParkChicago app. There's also a large there's no parking on the direct street right next to this place but there's a parking garage nearby where you can pay three dollars for two hours though it was free during graduation for college families. The atmosphere was relaxing with nice wooden tables and modern chairs.

This hole in the wall restaurant near UIC serves some of the best Indian street food. Specializing in momos (Indian dumplings), they offer a variety of toppings suitable for all sorts for diets! We tried a bunch of the fried ones and were especially impressed by the manchurian momos and samosa chaat momos! The masala fries were soo buttery and rich and I couldn't stop eating them! They tandoori ones def have a charred taste to it so make sure you know what you're getting into! Looking back, I'd probably skip out on the plain fried momos and try a steamed version! Although the chutneys they came with were delicious. They have limited indoor and outdoor seating and is the perfect meal after school with friends or on a busy night. Aside from momos, they have many other side options! Check them out :)

This restaurant specializes in Nepalese dumplings, or momos. They do traditional momos as well as momos with Indian inspiration, like paneer and chicken tikka masala momos. They come swimming in a vibrant orange sauce, or sometimes with dipping sauces. Pretty cool! Now let's get to the taste--I am not sure what I'm not getting. I had the original momo, the fish momo, and the butter masala momo. Although I could taste the the unique spices in the dumpling fillings, they were just not blowing me away in terms of flavor. I didn't have this excitement to keep eating them, you know? You know when you're eating really good soup dumplings, and you can't wait to try another one, down to the point where you're doing mental math to see how many more you'll get to eat between you and the other diners? I had none of that. Out of the three, though, I would have to say my favorite was the butter chicken momo--so velvety and creamy! Everything else was perfectly fine--the service was prompt and pleasant, the ambience is a nice quiet cafe with a few tables. Parking is paid on the street.

Protip: Must order the butter masala momos! Highlights: My first time trying momos and it's essentially dumplings and covered in sauce depending on what you order. The butter masala chicken momos were sooo delicious and creamy and the flavor was on point. I was sharing with some friends, but wished I had an order all to myself. They were also a decent size which I appreciated. Lowlights: If I had to pick something, it's that the fish ones felt very plain after the butter masala ones.

My friends and I ordered paneer Momo, Tandoori Momo chicken, and paneer Momo and we enjoyed all of these flavors. The skin of the momos/dumplings was not too thin or thick, which held in the stuffings without falling apart. They're like Chinese soup dumplings without the soup. Flavors are unique and delicious! read more

First time here. Was super excited about the place since i love momos. Had the Choela momos. It was really good once I added some salt. Why the dish was so low on salt, i will never understand. I guess its better that it was undersalted rather than oversalted. But to mess up on such a small but crucial ingredient was disappointing. Also the dish had fenugreek seeds, which i usually love. But the hard thing with fenugreek seeds is that if u fry them for too long or not enough they can be bitter or uncooked. I found both bitter and uncooked fenugreek seeds in the dish. These were minor disappointments only - thus the one star deduction. I will def go back and reorder this dish, and would recommend it to others as well. read more

The best dumpling this side of the Mississippi. The dumpling soup is the way to go - the jhol momo. If you aren't eating here you're missing out on not only great food but a great experience. Run, do not walk here! The food is amazing. I've been in search of good momos ever since my visit to Nepal and Bhutan and finally found it here. Had the tandoori momos, pork momos, and choela momos and can't decide which I like better. Vegetable Momos and Aloo Cauliflower bowl dishes ignited my taste bud. I liked the flavors that made the dishes and thank you for not making the dishes blend in spices to cater the mainstream. This has got to be the worst managed restaurant. We come with a party of 6, waiting to order. The women taking our orders seem uninterested in helping us find a seat. The limited seating of 15 is "reserved" and the lady tells us it's reserved for 7.30pm even though it's 8.20pm. They make no effort to accommodate us. What a terrible experience. Who cares what the food is like with this kind of service! read more

My first time ever trying Momo World was at a party and had to instantly ask where it was from. They had so many different types to choose from and were all yummy! My personal favorites are the orange momo, tandoori momo, chipotle momo and the Alfredo momo! I highly recommend this restaurant and I know everyone will enjoy as well. read more

Ordered tandoori veg, c-Momo veg and chole veg Momo. They all looked the same from outside but filling within them was EXTREMELY SPICY. Water or milk cannot subside that spicy ness. Had specifically mentioned in my order to make it less spicy, I think they made it very spicy instead. Couldn't even finish 1/4 of the Momo's from each plate. Had to throw the remainder of food. NOT going to order again. read more

The Momo World is a hidden gem that is a must hit. The cold weather and snow is the perfect time to get a group together to try one of everything on the menu. Each type of dumpling (steamed, fried, etc.) has a unique flavor profile, texture, and beauty behind it. The sauces that come with the momos are special - they make you feel warm and cozy on a day where all you see is snow when you look outside. There's a great balance of spices, heat, and chew to every bite. The chili and the tandoori were standouts for me, but don't miss the opportunity to try everything else. I love this place! So far I have ordered take out from there twice- and we've tried the tandoori veggie momo, chicken choela momo, and the butter chicken momo. Three orders of momos are plenty for two people. The flavors were consistent both times, the only thing inconsistent was the first time we did not get any sauces to go with the momos, and the sauces are really good, so make sure to ask for those. I am looking forward to trying out the other momos. read more

Never tried Napalese food? Give this great family owned restaurant a try! Chick pea salad (which isn't really a salad) is a must-- flavorful and good! Veggie (steamed) and chipolte (fried) momos were tastey as well. Try the mango kulfi for dessert. It's kind of like ice cream but not exactly. The owners are friendly and explained the dishes to us. Disclaimer, I'm an East Asian and I didn't grow up eating Indian or Nepali food so take my comments with a grain of salt. Lamb curry My friend and I enjoyed it. I bit into some star anise in the dish, and I wished they gave the star anise more time to incorporate into the curry (sauteing longer and toasting it before), as the star anise flavor wasn't really there. I had to bite into the star anise with the sauce to learn about the flavor profile. Eggplant curry I wasn't a big fan of the dish, as it felt a little astringent and bitter at times. I wasn't sure what it was going for, and I wished it utilized more of that umami flavor from the eggplant to elevate the curry. The curry felt a little overpowering. Fish curry As a seafood lover, this was one of the most special curries I have had. The fish was delicate and soft, which was paired well with the sauce. I would get this again. Chicken Biryani We increased the spice for this dish. The portions were huge and we liked it as a base to the other curries and something to eat with the naan. It was not bad. Mutton Momo (Soup) As a mutton/lamb lover, the momos were flavorful and hearty. They were paired with a spicy tomato soup, which felt different but familiar. We loved it. Mutton Momo (Chillied) The momo was sauted and fried at the bottom. It was paired with some bell peppers. This is the kind of dish where you wouldn't be able to stop eating. Loved it. Garlic Naan Hot, thin, crispy. Even though we wished the garlic was more pungent, the texture was great. Gulab Jamun (Fried Ball Dessert) It was our favorite. The syrup was gingery and had a subtle hint of saffron, and it blended well with the fried balls. This hit home. Overall, the food was decent. We will definitely be back for the momo and to try the different curries and biryani.

I went back today and was honestly so upset because my go-to dish, the paneer makhini, was nothing like it used to be. It literally just tasted like straight cream. I even asked them to remake it because I thought something was wrong, but it came out the same way. I ended up just eating the other food we ordered, but it was such a disappointment because this has always been the dish I look forward to. I even showed them old photos from past visits compared to today and it was clearly different. The chef tried it and said it was the same, which shocked me because it really wasn't. I get that places can have off days, but this was really discouraging. As much as I've loved this restaurant, I don't know if I'll be back if the quality has dropped this much.

Everything was well-balanced and spiced. I especially love that we were able to split the portions across multiple meals given how generous the naan was. The most beloved item was definitely the momos in the spicy/sour soup, followed by the buttery naan dipped in chicken tikka masala. I also really enjoyed the baigan bharta. So very enjoyed this meal, and I can't wait to try some of the other menu items that other diners have recommended.

Made last minute reservations for brunch next day after the infamous architecture tour. It was quiet as we've put in an early morning. All the more better to savor all intricate dishes from start to finish. Like the name, The Purple Pig, their specialty is pork dishes so majority of our orders were this. Daily special of the bone marrow bacon jam toast - glazed, slippery off the bone, savory and sweet. Always love a good bone marrow dish to get the sweetness off it. This was so good that there were bits of the marrow and jam left stuck to the bone, I took a piece of the toast and scooped the bone dry. Nothing left for anyone to attack this. Non pork dishes were the Mushroom 3 ways and Spanish octopus. Mushroom dish was savory with all the coated sauces elevating this. Spanish octopus was kicked lightly and easily can bite in to enjoy the tender and charred portions. But the award went to my main course - the braised pork shoulder with saffron, apricots and Swiss chard. Aside from the rippable pork meat when dining on it, the sauces fused together on this dish elevated it and had everyone coming back for more. I needed an official Chicago culinary experience and found it at The Purple Pig without a doubt.

Every single part of the meal was outstanding. The pulled pork was delicious on its own, but I also loved the sweet barbecue sauce. The cornbread was, without exaggeration, the best I've ever had!! It was moist, flavorful, and served with absolutely incredible butter. The mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and one of the best I've ever had as well. Even the sweet tea was perfect: actually sweet without being overpowering or having that bitter, earthy aftertaste that some sweet teas have. I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I came back the next night and tried the brisket. It was sooooo good too. It was tender, smoky, juicy, and packed with flavor. At that point I knew the first meal wasn't a fluke. It's not inexpensive, but the portions are generous, and I felt the quality more than justified the price. I was there by myself because I'm traveling for work and actually enjoyed the communal tables. They made the atmosphere feel welcoming and a little less lonely than sitting by myself. The staff was excellent, too. The gentleman with the glasses at the meat counter was friendly, funny, and made the experience even more enjoyable. He even threw in a complimentary rib, which was such a nice surprise and a great example of the hospitality here. One thing to know before you go: the line can get long, but don't let that scare you away, it moves efficiently, and the food is absolutely worth the wait. I recently dined at The Momo World in Chicago and was blown away by the experience. I am a student at UIC and I absolutely love the location and the food there. It is such a good break from the dining hall food. The food was absolutely delicious - I especially loved the momos (obviously) and the veg noodles. The service was top-notch as well - our server was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and I appreciated the cultural decor and music that added to the overall ambiance. In addition to the great food and service, I was also impressed by the variety of options on the menu. There were so many delicious dishes to choose from, and I'm already planning my next visit so I can try more. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food and the portion sizes were really big. Went to The Momo World today and had the best experience yet! The staff is so kind, friendly, and helpful (especially with the huge and different menu)! We tried the Chicken Biryani which had the perfect amount of spice and flavor + was cheap as well for the size of the dish. We also tried the pork steamed momos, which was a burst of flavor in my mouth. We also tried the chicken choela momos which truly melted in my mouth! Momo World serves up fast food in a laid-back setting. Their street food, like the tandoori momos, packs a punch in flavor but their food can be greasy.
