Love this place! I always make a point to stop in with my husband when we come back to visit family. Service is so nice and friendly (bartender recognized us the second day and remembered the drink my husband liked), great local beers, and the pizza is to die for. Their laid back, down to earth vibe makes for a chill place to hang out and grab a drink. Here's the deal-the food trucks are good (not great - The generators are overly loud for an outside bar). The service is good (Little bit slow due to how busy they are). The setting and ambiance is perfect. My wife and I live about 40 minutes away and we like to take our bicycles and ride down the bike trail to the bar. Have a drink, enjoy life and cruise back. They were not short staffed, but the staff seemed more interested in wandering around and socializing than actually doing their jobs. Definitely a hotspot in the area! No food, but they will usually have two food trucks parked next to the bar. We really enjoyed "A taste of Mexico!" Parking can be an issue, and you might have to wait to find a table outdoors if there is a live band playing. It was packed when we first got here, but we went inside and had a drink, came back out and found a table right now on the water. Two bars indoors and one bar outside. Free popcorn to snack on. My one knock on the place would be that weight time can be a bit long as it feels like they are understaffed. This is a fun spot and we will be back! read more

Nice bar with a lot of potential. Service especially upstairs just sucks. The waiters are inexperienced and don't regularly tend to the area. The upstairs bar is sometimes unmanned so again you sometimes wait a long time before someone comes back. They crank up the live music volume to the point where conversations get difficult. The menu being on QR code is a nice idea but the bar is in a place that has poor cell service so the menu doesn't load if your signal isn't good. So the lovely mrs decided since our kids were in town for Mother's Day that we needed a place to go hang out and just relax. She signed us up for a 'bourbon tasting' where Heaven Hill Distillery was in the spotlight. They do this kind of bourbon thing the 2nd Wednesday of the month. I guess they do wine versions as well. Just look this place up on Facebook for details. It time here, the kitchen was closed and we were told that there is always a fold truck in the parking lot. So... thoughts on this plaice? It's so nice and it seems to go on forever. There is an upstairs, downstairs, patio, more patio and even more patio that is going j see the bridge. The 2nd and 3rd patios are a perfect place t just stare at the little Miami River. I was informed they do have live bands so with this, the view, friends, some awesome service staff and adult beverages... what more could you please really ask for? I've ridden past this place on the bike path hundreds of times but the other night was my first time stepping foot inside for a Buffalo Trace bourbon tasting - why have I not come here before!? Downstairs patio was packed, for obvious reasons of being right on the river. Nice evening, beautiful view, live music. Upstairs bar was staffed with 3 bartenders so service was no issue. The tasting was out on the upper patio, run by Amber - who was awesome given the volume of customers she was serving! The table next to us I guess complained about not getting their flights quick enough, but then again, they seemed like a-holes anyways. The only downside I can see is parking (which is shared as a trailhead for the bike path) and the food truck that is there that night, which is to no fault of the MBG - just, you're stuck with whatever is there and it may not be your thing and there is really nothing around to supplement it. Celebrated Father's Day at the Monkey Bar. It's been on my bucket list since it was renovated, so I used my free pass in picking our destination. So glad I did! We sat on the patio, but did a full walk through of the interior before settling in. It's so much brighter than I remembered, and they have a trendy feel to them. There are bars upstairs, downstairs, inside and out, so staff doesn't have to run all over to fill your orders. There isn't a functioning kitchen I could see, but there are food trucks to fill the void. Seems each food truck has it's own following, so by rotating the vendors, a new crowd is introduced to the MBG every time the truck changes. Same with the live entertainment - every band has it's own following, so new fans get to experience the venue each time someone new signs on. The draft prices were average to above-average, and the wine was actually priced below my expectation. The food was decent, and the entertainment was excellent. Not crowded, easy to find a parking spot, got a seat at the bar... had to walk up to order a drink.... nope, not this spot, but directed to one 3ft down. She could pour it but not ring it up. Finally got a beer. If you're coming for the first time, don't! From our parking spot right next to the building, we had to go up 2 flights of stairs to find out we can only sit outside (down another flight of stairs) to have to pay for overpriced not cold beers. Very cool place and awesome views of the river. Great selection of quality local beers and the cocktails were excellent. It is a place to drink and get pizzas though. The menu is very small otherwise, like only boneless wings and salads and neither were great. I did hear the pizza is good but we didn't try it. The monkey balls appetizer is amazing. Band was excellent that was playing. Seat yourself anywhere and it was full on a Saturday night after about 6pm. It seats a LOT of people as it is a pretty large complex if you can sit outside. Take Columbia road route if coming from the north, pretty road and drive. read more

And the bathrooms!! OMG! I have never seen a more luxurious bathroom in a small town bar! I actually WANT to go pee in there . This bar only serves drinks, but don't worry. Nice place if you're a Republican and/or a Christian conservative and/or you're opposed to COVID-era facemasks. My father-in-law was also a small businessman, and a good one, but was cognizant enough to know that you don't push your politics or religion at your business. The owner here has yet to learn that. And the website write-up on Sam the Chimp, who was rescued by the Humane Society, leads one to believe Jane Goodall may have approved of private businesses caging animals and giving them television, beer, and cigarettes. That's a load of BS. And while the server and my beer were both good, this is definitely NOT a "grille." If you want food, you have to order from a nearby food truck. So add false advertising to the negatives. read more

I loveddd the Monkey Bar! It is a huge bar with tons of outdoor seating right on the water. When I went there was a live band performing which made it even more fun. While the bar doesn't have food, they had a few food trucks if you're in need of a bite to eat. There were plenty of beers on tap and the bar tenders can make just about any drink you ask for. There is an upper section that overlooks the outdoor area, which is where we sat and it was the perfect place to have a view of the band and the river. I was there with 7 friends Thursday night for cocktails. The outside had a nice vibe but the customer service was horrible. First I was told I needed a credit card to start a tab, when I told the waitress that I wanted to pay cash she told me that there would be an extra $5.00 charge. Every time I ordered a drink and paid cash the waitress just kept the change. and then I ordered a drink and I was brought the wrong drink (which I didn't drink) when I informed the waitress she lied and said that is what I ordered and I would be charged for it whether I drank it or not. read more

The setting was by far the best thing about the bar. I feel you can't really call yourself a grille if there is none. The food trucks were okay, I do like food trucks, but our group would rather be waited on while sitting by the river. Bottom bar could not handle our bar tab, and we had to go up to the second floor to settle up. Good place to visit if all you want to do is drink. The entertainment, guy on guitar, couldn't be heard, and we were only 3 tables from him. Not sure if that is the Bar's fault or his. This place is great if riding the bike trail, but not sure we would come from NKY to visit again without the grille food choice. read more
