I got to-go with some friends, ordered a small monta and su beoreg, and it came with garlic sauce, a spicy sauce, and a tomato soup. It's my first time having Armenian food, so I'm no expert or what's traditional flavors this review is just my perspective on it. The subeoreg was flaky and cheesey, kinda like a lasagna but with thin layers of phylo-dough instead of pasta. Recipes online indicate eggs and parsley and I think this would hwve benefited from herbs to give more enhanced flavors. The monta were cute little open-faced baked dumplings, very pop-able. The garlic yogurt creme didn't have a strong garlic flavor but it added a nice tangy counter balance to the heaviness of of the monta. I'd be interested to try more Armenian food , but this place has a very limited menu. read more

We ordered food online. The salmon sandwich was delicious and the montas / dumplings were also very flavorful! The salad was unfortunately not tasty in my opinion. I was expecting more vegetables as the photo shows cucumbers and greens but it did not contain anything other than the grain and some tomatoes and onions chopped in there. Might be helpful to title it as a bulgur or grain salad so it's more clear for someone ordering online. I would definitely order the montas again especially as appetizer for a party. read more

The montas here are delicious! We came around 3:30 on a weekday so it wasn't busy and we were able to eat at one of the little tables outside. The owner does everything on his own, so please be patient! It was my first time here and I wasn't disappointed! I heard about this place from my cousin who lives in The Bay because she sent me an Instagram reel. The owner was so nice and attentive, even though he was a one man show. There is only seating outside. The great thing about this tiny place is that they have monta , obvsly which is really good-- and a single sandwich. It has a lot of salmon and is absolutely perfection. It's not easy to get the right texture, to avoid overcooking the salmon to make it too dry, or undercook inside which is edible but offputting. They specialize in justthis one sandwich which means they're way down a learning curve of having done it a zillion times and you can taste that. read more

I saw a photo of their main dish randomly on yelp and was so intrigued I just had to check them out...I'd never seen it or heard of it - it's their traditional Armenian Monta (sini monti) - luscious , homemade little pockets of pure delight! What a gem!! The ratings are totally justified - the food is unique, absolutely delicious, and it's owned and run by a sweet, lovely family. I ordered a small tray of the Monta and also two pieces of their other signature dish, the Su-Beoreg which was also fantastic! So the monta consists of these bite sized little boats of soft dough filled with ground beef and steamed or baked. It's covered in herbs and served smothered with a light tomato sauce that is then topped with a creamy garlic sauce. There's also an option of a side of hot sauce. The flavor combination of the all the sauces takes the dish to the next level - it's truly fantastic- complex and savory. The hot sauce is pretty spicy but has such a nice flavor to it that I just couldn't resist using a little bit with each bite and the creamy garlic sauce helps cool it down - flawless combo! The Su-beoreg is a light pastry made of a phyllo-like dough, layered with cheese, and baked - oh I'm a huge fan of this as well! I even dipped it in some of the Monta sauces and it was brilliant. Portions are pretty large - our small tray of Monta and two pieces of Su-beoreg filled up my hubby and me easily. And for the homemade quality and level of deliciousness, prices are very reasonable. Parking is all street parking but pretty easy to find a spot. The shop is very small - there's no inside seating and only a few tables outside so it's more of a to-go place. Service is excellent too - I chatted to the son of the family while my monta cooked and he is SO nice!! Just a lovely person and we will definitely be back. It felt like I was selfishly eating all the appetizers someone special brought to a party! They were really good. I was talking about dumplings with my boss last week. He's Armenian and mentioned something called Monta. I was curious so I googled Monta in Pasadena and this place came up. I'm happy I did. I called up last Friday around 1:10pm and placed an order for a small Monta and a Cheese bread. The dude on the line was super nice and told me it would be ready at 1:45. I arrived at 1:45 and it was ready! I requested the sauce on the side which he did for me. He was super friendly and had a quick instruction about the sauce. The bread was great! A real cheese flavor to it. But these Monta were freaking awesome. I regret not ordering a large. I will be back soon. I will keep this place in mind this holiday season. Haven't checked if they do larger tray orders but if they do, it would be great to bring to a party. This is the type of place that you hope to find when exploring something new. Friendly service.
