I got to-go with some friends, ordered a small monta and su beoreg, and it came with garlic sauce, a spicy sauce, and a tomato soup. It's my first time having Armenian food, so I'm no expert or what's traditional flavors this review is just my perspective on it. The subeoreg was flaky and cheesey, kinda like a lasagna but with thin layers of phylo-dough instead of pasta. Recipes online indicate eggs and parsley and I think this would hwve benefited from herbs to give more enhanced flavors. The monta were cute little open-faced baked dumplings, very pop-able. The garlic yogurt creme didn't have a strong garlic flavor but it added a nice tangy counter balance to the heaviness of of the monta. I'd be interested to try more Armenian food , but this place has a very limited menu. read more

Came in with a big order on a Sunday and they gave me the best service with a great CAN DO attitude! Love it when they reflect positivity and it gave me warmth right back. Food of course was amazing and fresh! Very well priced and kinda cute they put everything in pizza boxes. Highly recommend for family orders! read more

We ordered food online. The salmon sandwich was delicious and the montas / dumplings were also very flavorful! The salad was unfortunately not tasty in my opinion. I was expecting more vegetables as the photo shows cucumbers and greens but it did not contain anything other than the grain and some tomatoes and onions chopped in there. Might be helpful to title it as a bulgur or grain salad so it's more clear for someone ordering online. I would definitely order the montas again especially as appetizer for a party. read more

The montas here are delicious! We came around 3:30 on a weekday so it wasn't busy and we were able to eat at one of the little tables outside. The owner does everything on his own, so please be patient! We were planning on eating a few while they were fresh and then taking the rest back, but we ended up eating all of them there because they were so good! It was piping hot, the dough was crispy, and the filling and sauce were super flavorful. It was my first time having montas so I wasn't sure what to expect, but they were super good and not too heavy read more

Been wanting to come here for a while and try this Armenian food, so glad we tried it tonight, it was unique and delicious! Sarkis was welcoming and very helpful with recommendations on what to order. Menu is small and limited, as is seating, outdoor only three tables. It was a great night to have dinner outside and watch the world go by. Only street parking available. Would definitely come back and have this again! read more

The place was a small little take out restaurant, a few tables outside to eat! The owner suggested a large platter for 3 people and good thing he did! It was the perfect amount. Each monta is handmade! The flavor was yummy and the mint was subtle. It was nice that the tomato sauce is on the side for takeout orders. The garlic yogurt was runny and not super raw garlic-y. It was a great dipping sauce. I loved being able to eat 25 dumplings and call that dinner! read more

It was my first time here and I wasn't disappointed! I heard about this place from my cousin who lives in The Bay because she sent me an Instagram reel. The owner was so nice and attentive, even though he was a one man show. There is only seating outside. Since it was the end of the day, he was out of the small tray of sini-monta, but my friend and I got the large. We got the spicy sauce and it was so tasty! Street parking was fairly easy. I can't wait to go back. Definitely want to try to su beoreg. read more

I know it's been around for awhile but, my first visit; it certainly won't be my last. I went with both the monta and the sou boreg. Both were delicious. Sarkes was friendly and very helpful. When I told him I had other stops to make before I'd make it home, he prepared the food just right, and gave instructions for how to heat it before eating. The result was perfect. Took two hungry teenagers here who have high quality expectations for Monta. One of them ordered the large plate, the other small. I was able to get only a few pieces to taste, they finished it all. We got the yogurt and hot tomato sauce on the monta, it was as authentic as it gets. We also ordered the saffron, pistachio and rose ice cream. It was full of pistachio pieces. Couldn't pronounce most items and decided to order a little bit of everything on the menu to try. manta with the works: little dumplings with sauce. The sauce was a bit watery. Not as flavorful as I thought it'd be but fun to try. Su beoreg: some kinda cheese pastry. It was cheesy and delicious Salmon sandwich: big portion and a healthy choice garlic cream soup: not too garlicky. But I loved the little dumplings that came with soup. read more

I saw a photo of their main dish randomly on yelp and was so intrigued I just had to check them out...I'd never seen it or heard of it - it's their traditional Armenian Monta (sini monti) - luscious , homemade little pockets of pure delight! What a gem!! The ratings are totally justified - the food is unique, absolutely delicious, and it's owned and run by a sweet, lovely family. I ordered a small tray of the Monta and also two pieces of their other signature dish, the Su-Beoreg which was also fantastic! So the monta consists of these bite sized little boats of soft dough filled with ground beef and steamed or baked. It's covered in herbs and served smothered with a light tomato sauce that is then topped with a creamy garlic sauce. There's also an option of a side of hot sauce. The flavor combination of the all the sauces takes the dish to the next level - it's truly fantastic- complex and savory. The hot sauce is pretty spicy but has such a nice flavor to it that I just couldn't resist using a little bit with each bite and the creamy garlic sauce helps cool it down - flawless combo! The Su-beoreg is a light pastry made of a phyllo-like dough, layered with cheese, and baked - oh I'm a huge fan of this as well! I even dipped it in some of the Monta sauces and it was brilliant. Portions are pretty large - our small tray of Monta and two pieces of Su-beoreg filled up my hubby and me easily. And for the homemade quality and level of deliciousness, prices are very reasonable. Parking is all street parking but pretty easy to find a spot. The shop is very small - there's no inside seating and only a few tables outside so it's more of a to-go place. Service is excellent too - I chatted to the son of the family while my monta cooked and he is SO nice!! Just a lovely person and we will definitely be back. I get my water bottles filled every week just down the street so I'll most likely be getting lunch here weekly as well haha!! read more

Spreading some extra Yelp love for #ThankYouThursday for this wonderful small business that has the most delicious food!! I finally had a chance to try this place after having it bookmarked for a while and WOW this place is definitely deserving of the high reviews it has. I've never tried Armenian food before but the food here makes me want to try more. My husband and I ordered the large monta plate to share and this was soooo delicious and unlike anything I've ever tried before. I'd best describe a monta as an open faced dumpling with middle eastern flavors. The montas were super seasoned and saucy but all the flavors worked so well together. The store itself is super small and only has a small table inside and a couple small tables outside to sit at, so I think most people would probably pick something up for takeout here. We decided to eat there and the service was super friendly and the person there checked up on us every so often and offered us extra sauce, which we appreciated. Overall, I'd highly recommend trying this place and will definitely be back! read more

I bought the vegetarian bean Monta frozen and defrosted then warmed them up at home. After a quick sauté in a covered half inch of water and because on their own they are plain, I served them with some sour cream and warmed pumpkin puree that I had, and they were yummy. The gentleman who owns/runs the business is so nice that I'd go back just for the pleasure of his service. read more

This was my first time trying Monta. These are seasoned meatballs surrounded by pasty resting in a thin sauce and topped with tangy yogurt. It felt like I was selfishly eating all the appetizers someone special brought to a party! They were really good. The tray of bite sized balls looks large when you get it but I finished it no problem. If you haven't tried Monta it seems like this is place to do it. read more

I went here with a friend to have lunch, and I was very surprised because I didn't realize it was a tiny shop. It's a very charming place just on the street between two other stores, very cute! The food was awesome. I've had a lot of Armenian food with my gf's family, but this was my first time trying monta. It was so good, I see why they market this as soul food. Absolutely loved our experience at Su-Beoreg & Monta Factory in Pasadena! My brother and I were craving a new spot for lunch when we found this gem and without knowing what to expect-we were beyond impressed! It was one of those rare moments where everything just felt right--the food, the atmosphere, the warmth. The absolute highlight was the salmon sandwich--grilled to perfection, full of flavor, and so satisfying, so much so that after we finished our meal we each ordered an additional sandwich to go! We also had the Sini-Monta and Su-Beoreg and the verdict is: flavorful, intentional, and made with love. A huge shoutout to Chef Sarkis, whose passion shines through in every dish. You can tell he cooks from the heart which shines to through when he explains the meñu then showcases his creations with great pride. I was talking about dumplings with my boss last week. He's Armenian and mentioned something called Monta. I was curious so I googled Monta in Pasadena and this place came up. I'm happy I did. I called up last Friday around 1:10pm and placed an order for a small Monta and a Cheese bread. The dude on the line was super nice and told me it would be ready at 1:45. I arrived at 1:45 and it was ready! I requested the sauce on the side which he did for me. He was super friendly and had a quick instruction about the sauce. The bread was great! A real cheese flavor to it. But these Monta were freaking awesome. I regret not ordering a large. I will be back soon. I will keep this place in mind this holiday season. Haven't checked if they do larger tray orders but if they do, it would be great to bring to a party. This is the type of place that you hope to find when exploring something new. Friendly service. A friend recently invited me over for lunch and got take out from here. Everything tried was addicting! I ate so much because it was so good! Things tried: Beef monta: the little dumplings had a little crunch and the flavors danced in my mouth. They were so good with the sauces. I literally ate half the tray! Artisan Cheese Beoreg: paired perfectly with the montas. It wasn't a strong cheese flavor, but just enough and baked to perfection. Another yummy dish. A 10! Wow, talk about a perfect hole in the wall. I was totally unfamiliar with the food, and it happened to be across the street from where my mom moved. My brother and I walked over, and did the right thing - we want everything on the menu, please. And so, the gentleman behind the counter told us twelve minutes, you will have your food. Little did I know, we were about to embark on a totally new adventure. Boo yah! Food arrives piping hot, and good portions. Sometimes you can tell by the smell the complexity of flavors and spices, this was a bouquet! Mota - the star. Little pastries with meat filing smothered in an incredible red sauce. Incredible. Truly delicious. Pastry filled with cheese - somehow managed to stay hot and flaky all through the meal. Light and cheesy, without being overwhelming. Grape leaves - I normally don't like them, but these were tasty without having that weird tree leaf taste. Salmon sando - may be the best salmon sandwich I have ever had. Salmon was cooked perfect, the beard wasn't heavy, and the spread was perfect. Sometimes you keep a little spot to yourself, feels good to have this special secret you can share when you want. Monta = Adorable mini open face baked beef raviolis! The outside wrapper was thicker than a potsticker skin but thinner than puff pastry. It comes with a thin tomato sauce and a thick garlic cream sauce that you can pour over the baked little dumplings. I liked dipping mine! read more

I've been a long time customer of Champion Cleaners next door. I never paid attention to the little business next to them. Today I was picking up laundry and saw the sign "Best Salmon Sandwich in LA". I love salmon so was intrigued. Looked it up on Yelp and gave it a try. The sign was right. Absolutely awesome sandwich! Hi, I'm Sarkes, the proud owner of Su-Beoreg & Monta Factory. Before I took over the family business, I worked as a Service Manager at Wells Fargo. But when I saw the incredible opportunity to continue my family's legacy, I knew it was time for a change. In 2014, I decided to take the reins of our family business, which had been selling Monta and Su-Beoreg wholesale for years, and open it up to the public. I’ve always had a passion for these authentic Armenian and Middle Eastern dishes, and I wanted to share them with the world. Also decent was their fatteh, which is cream, yogurt, chickpeas, and a lot of assorted nuts, all dolloped over fried pita bread. Also very good, but I'm just honestly not a huge fan of nuts. It also comes with the vegetable platter which is the perfect combo with the creamy chickpea thing. The food usually takes 10-15 minutes to come out, but that's because they're clearly preparing everything fresh in the back (you can kind of see them do this.) They also have a fountain machine, which is a huge plus to ice addicts like me. Everything is casual, but also very clean and neat. Honestly, it's also a very nice cafe to relax in, do work, talk with friends, etc. etc. This is very much close to the "optimal" place to me when it comes to taking friends out somewhere to reconnect. Anyways, this place is highly recommended for both a wonderful dine-in and dine-out experience. I try to stop by it as often as possible for their breakfast to the point where I can count on my fingers the amount of times I've had breakfast at a place that WASN'T the Old Sassoon Bakery. I ordered a number of items so that I could get an understanding of their menu. I decided to order three items. A salad and two dinners. As I sat down to wait for my order, a staff member brought over a small salad and a small bottle of water for me to enjoy while I was waiting. I found out that the salad was a shirazi salad. It was bright and refreshing. The lemon and olive oil dressing was perfect along with the chopped onions, marinated cucumber, tomatoes, and parsley. Enjoyable! I picked up my carefully packaged order and was on my way home. I was eager to try some new flavors. The aroma of the food was still present as I opened each of the three items. The Greek salad with chicken had a great flavor. There were large chunks of lightly fried chicken pieces, with fresh cucumbers, feta cheese, olives, lettuce, onions, with their special olive and lemon dressing. This salad is a full meal, very satisfying. The chicken platter with white meat included rice, a marinated cucumber salad, a tomato, and jalapeno. Their special sauce is amazing. The beef skewer was very tender and filled with flavor. The meat had been marinated and tasted great both warm and cold the following day, as did the other items. Barley soup was filled with barley and had great flavor. I decided to add a little bit of kick by dropping in some hot sauce. The side salad was impressive. Fresh greens, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, and cucumbers. A little squeeze of lemon with all it needed. No extra dressing needed.
