Avoid This Shop - Poor Communication and Poor Workmanship I brought my Triumph Scrambler 900 in for its 12,000-mile service. Before that, it ran beautifully -- started every time, idled perfectly, and the rear brake worked smoothly. After this service, everything changed for the worse. **Poor Mechanical Work:** My smooth idle turned into rough, sputtering revs between 800-1200 RPM. I was told this would resolve after a 10-minute idle reset -- and it *seemed* to at first, but only because the engine was warm. Once it cooled down, the problem returned. They told me what I wanted to hear rather than fixing the actual issue, and I regret believing them. **Brake Issue:** Within 30 minutes of leaving the shop, my rear brake went from tight and responsive to soft and sloppy. I had to shift my weight on the seat just to push the brake pedal far enough to engage. It didn't completely fail, but the drastic change made me seriously question the quality of their work. **Charged for a Part They Didn't Install:** I was billed $200 for a skid plate I had declined after learning it would require removing the center stand. Only after I caught it, then the charge was it refunded. I'll assume this was poor internal communication, not intentional, but still -- not acceptable. **Delays and Misinformation:** I gave three weeks' notice and called daily leading up to the appointment. They assured me the bike would be serviced promptly, but the day it arrived, they still hadn't ordered the necessary parts. One staff member said the parts were overnighted; another said they were backordered. I never got a straight answer. **Bottom Line:** Whether due to carelessness or poor communication, this shop failed me at nearly every turn. They don't return calls, they don't coordinate internally, and they don't take ownership of problems. To be fair, the staff were generally polite -- but that's not enough when your bike comes back worse than it went in. If you have other options, take them. I wouldn't recommend trusting this shop with your motorcycle. read more

UPDATE: An associate called the next day to say the bike was available and made the transaction seamless. Hopefully in the future the sales associates will remember to treat each new customer as a potential VIP customer ____________________________________________________ They must not like new customers Drove up from Kenai and stopped in to get a dirt bike so I could ride with my kids on my week off work. They had the bike, I offered to buy it full asking price that day.... I was told that the bike (that was on display) wasn't available for purchase bc a "long time customer" called dibs (no deposit)....... Sad to see the sales associates turned down a potential new "long time customer" trying to give them my money. read more

I scheduled my BMW service a month in advance, because I was traveling from CA to AK. I waited 4.5 hours for a routine 6k mile service because the service manager and GM said they make all customers wait until the previous days work is completed. It's sad that the GM was bragging that they are too busy and they make all their customers wait because there's no easy solution for the amount of work they have. It's also sad that other dealerships manage to service their customers in a timely manner, not 4.5 hours for a routine 2hr service. If you need repairs or service done be prepared to wait All Day for your bike. read more

every time i take my bike there for service, there's always something wrong when i get the bike back, but usually small stuff. when i had new tires installed, some of the weights they used to balance the wheels fell off a few days later. another time, after some service, my seat wasn't fully secured. this last time, they left 2 temporary bolts in the swingarm (used to lift the motorcycle). it's hard to trust these guys when attention to detail is lacking. one time to ensure my bike was worked on asap, i got there as soon as they opened, was told the service would not take too long, so i stayed there instead of getting a ride from a friend. ended up waiting there all day. the parts department is always helpful though! read more

i got back to alaska on a 1996 bmw i purchased for $2,000 in san diego, calif. (and it had 60,000 miles on it @ time of purchase late 2011) & rode back to alaska, 4000 miles in july of 2021,(when i arrived in anchorage it had about 80,000 miles on it). i had an accident (sept. 2012) due to a driver cutting me off on 3rd ave, down by beans cafe, driver was totally at fault. my '96 was not majorly damaged as i rode it home from 3rd ave, mostly it was some cosmetic plastics, the usual bent lever...bent bar, etc. i got home & within a few weeks arranged to have the '96 bmw picked up by an authorised motorcycle pickup service, where it was transported to "the motorcycle store", as they were the only bmw dealer in the area. i went to the dealership about a week after i had sent the bike over to have a simple quote/appraisal as to the cost of fixing up my 1996 bmw with 80,000 miles on it. ( nada blue book value is $1775 avg retail price, i paid $2,000 for it approx 9 months earlier in san diego)... i was given at that time by brendon gallant a multipage document that basically listed all of the parts they could possibly replace for the sum total of $10,000!!!!!... with the bullshit explanation that "they were a bmw dealer and they would need to bring the bike up to new factory spec"... and they also presented me with a bill for $1,000 for the quote... note: i was never contacted by anybody from the motorcycle shop as to "authorise a $1,000 quote", neither was i ever told i would be charged $1,000 for a cost estimate which any ethical business would do for free....or would have to disclose a cost...none of which the motorcycle store did... neither did they at any time call me to say they were coming up with an eestimate of costs that exceeded the nada blue book value of the bike...!!!!! come to find out that this type of un-ethical behaviour has been a hallmark of un-scrupulous owner/ mechanics & employees at the motorcycle store for years....going back to the 1970's & 80's... needless to say i told them to eat their quote & i had to leave my '96 bmw r1100rs there....as basically it would have cost me $11,000 to get my bike back....when in fact it was only worth $1,775.. this is the kind of people that run the motorcycle store do.... avoid the motorcycle store @ all costs.... theyve got a bad reputation going back years.... now i now why..................... tmalaska anchorage alaska read more

We rode our motorcycles up from California and set up an appt to get oil changes & a rear tire. Andrew helped us out in service. They have a cabin on the grounds with snacks & drinks to relax in while your bike is being worked on. Every employee we came into contact with was very helpful & kind. I highly recommend The Motorcycle Shop. It's great to see a motorcycle repair/ service shop that actually cares about customer satisfaction!!! read more

I don't usually review a place that I haven't bought anything from. The guy that greeted me was nice enough but the rest of the employees are useless. The older guy doing quotes knows next to nothing about Ducati's, which they have a few of. Place is expensive af too, by $2500-3000+ compared to L48. 100% would rather buy a bike in Florida and ride it all the way up to Anchorage, then buy from these jokers. read more

Bought my first bike here in July 2022 (KTM Duke 390). Wonderful customer service, the manager Andrew helped me out and gave good advice because I wasn't sure if I wanted a 400cc or 600cc. I didn't have my license or even ridden a motorcycle before so a 400 was great way to start. They were willing to deliver it at no cost to my apartment which was close to the shop. 2023 rolls around I take in to trade my KTM for a bigger one now that I'm comfortable and have my license after taking the ABATE course on Tudor. Andrew helped me once again and I gave him another customer which is my girlfriend. She ended up getting a bike the same day we got there. In and out within an hour. He is very responsive on email and definitely works hard. I emailed the AK Cycle Center a month prior to going back in here and 2 months later still no response from them after me inquiring about a bike lol. Took these guys to get back to me within 24 hours and that's excellent customer service. Ended up going home with a 2023 Ducati SuperSport 950. They will always have my business and I will always recommend my friends to get a bike here. read more

Started riding last year (summer of 2018) on an entry-level bike, which I traded in this year for a bike more suited to longer rides in Alaska. Bought both bikes at The Motorcycle Shop, and both times my decision was largely based on the extremely knowledgeable and professional staff that work here. I always felt welcome, never pressured; and all my newbie questions were patiently and thoroughly answered. And the service department is outstanding - maintaining & servicing your bike needs to be a trustworthy long-term relationship, and hands-down these guys are the best in Anchorage. read more

An outstanding experience from true professionals. I needed to bring both of my Yamaha dirt bikes in for some serious prep work for the upcoming season. My WR 450 needed new bars, an FMF pipe, fork and shock seals, and a rock solid tune up. My TTR 230 needed clutch work and a tune up. Chris and his team absolutely rocked in bringing both of these bikes up to snuff and I couldn't be more pleased. Although they do not sell Yamahas, they certainly have the expertise to fix them. The cost was extremely reasonable and I never had any reason to question their recommendations. Strongly recommended!!! They have won my business from here on out. read more

Don`t go here for tire repair! After having new tires and tubes installed here, I had to put up with a pinched rear tire tube twice! The first time they covered the expenses because I returned 150 miles and showed up at their shop. This 2nd flat happened 80 miles SE of Beaver Creek, Yukon in an active construction zone on a Sunday. (The Motorcycle Shop is closed on Sunday`s and Mondays). The wheels are powder coated cast wheels and are easily damaged, therefore a tire machine was required and the closest one was in Whitehorse.This time they refused to help me out financially after I spent more than $1,400.00 Canadian to trailer my motorcycle to Whitehorse and get it repaired. The Motorcycle Shop`s reasoning was that the tube pinched itself due to the rough roads. Everyone I asked agrees that it is impossible for a properly installed, fully inflated tube to somehow creep in between a tire and rim. You be the judge. Apparently there is no long distance warranty on service, even with a history of incompetence. read more
