I live in area but forgot why I don't like it here. I came once back in 2016 and just remembered how irritated the worker seemed that I walked in. I have been going to OC Grooming in Lake Forest by Home Depot ever since. Today my dog got filthy in the mud and has a vet appointment first thing in the morning. At 3:30 I wouldn't make the cut-off time at OC Grooming so I pulled up the Mud Puppy website to see their hours. It said the cut off time was 4pm and they close at 5. The website also shows the price as $20 for large dogs self-service. When I arrived at 3:40 the chalkboard in the lobby said cut-off time is 3:30. The lady working was not happy to see me but she let me bathe my dog after I promised to be quick. She gave me 1/4 bottle of shampoo and filled the rest with water. My dog is pretty large but whatever. I was in and out super quick. She said that'll be $20, so I gave her my card and asked for my receipt. She charged me $29.12! OC Groomers charges $18 for self wash regardless of size and doesn't charge extra for sensitive skin soap or cologne or anything. They also have a great set up where the soap and conditioner come right out the nozzle with the water by changing the dial. I'll never go to Mud Puppy again. read more

They rescheduled my appointment today to accommodate their schedule bc they were an employee down and I happily obliged. I show up 20 minutes earlier to drop off. Owner comes to the front, says "you need to come back at the correct time, your dog barks too much" (he does have some anxiety here, but only because he doesn't like to be caged up at this place) I let it go because it does need to be convenient and respectable to all. I tell her I'll come back in 20. She then changes to 35 minutes and I said I can't do it. I had a work commitment and didn't need to share that with them. Here was the problem, she also proceeds to state I need to work on my dog, he is a problem. Made me feel like my dog is not worth the trouble to groom and she's DOING ME A FAVOR. You know that feeling when someone is making fun of your kid and you'll do anything to defend them as a parent, yeah she essentially tried to make me feel bad for my dog, I wasn't having it, I didn't really argue, I essentially walked out. I don't really care about them losing me as a customer, ask yourself if you want your dog to be treated like this? read more

I should have checked the reviews before coming here. I agree with everyone else that the owner needs to have some customer service training. We came in here for the first time after looking on the website where it said it was $20 for a dog over 60 pounds and that the last call was 4 o'clock. We walked in at 3:35 and the woman was really irritated with us and said didn't you see my sign, I cut off at 3:30. When I said that the website still says 4 o'clock, her response was that she's been the owner of this establishment for 11 years and she knows what she has posted. The prices were also higher, it was $28, not $20. After some back and forth, she let us stay. Tried to make some small talk occasionally and she did not respond. As far as the facility, it smells like a typical grooming place. The water pressure was meh. And the dryer was not very strong nor warm. First off any businesses that are for dogs is usually a happy and fun experience, the employees and owners love what they do and it shows immediately when you walk in the door with your pup. Walking into Mud Puppy it was already an off vibe, you immediately felt unwelcomed by the lady. The guy who greeted us was friendlier, but the lady who runs it not so much. Like wow she was so unprofessional and rude, she def gave off a vibe that she doesnt like dogs AT ALL. She was "grooming" a doodle there and she looked miserable and didnt want yo be there. I wish I would have read the 1star reviews, they are accurate. I take my dog to self washes once every 3 weeks, so wasnt my first rodeo. I understand watching customers and making sure they have everything they need. This place watches you like a hawk, it was so uncomfortable and we were trying to do it quickly, but it took forever cause theres no water pressure. The self wash includes shampoo, theres a shelf full of different ones. My dog doesnt need anything special, I opted for deshedding as it was not listed as one of the specialty ones that cost extra. We go to pay and the guy goes its $23, I said the sign says $20. He said the shampoo and I said its not listed as a specialty option. Thats when that lady charged up to the front and screamed at me when asked why it wasnt listed. She screams at the paying customer, "You're not arguing with me for $3". Well I wasn't arguing I was asking, also its not about the $3 its the principle, but you decided yo have poor customer service skills and get mad for no reason. This place is just trying to nickel and dime you on top of being super unprofessional. We have been washing our dog on and off for the last 14 years and we have never had a problem, about 2 months ago I waited until 10:45 am on a Sunday for someone to open the business. Yesterday morning (again a Sunday) we waited until 11:30am but this time no one showed, 8 different people came by with their dogs, me being #9. I love this place my dog looks beautiful when I pick him up after his grooming and Rosy has always been very accommodating fitting us in even though she's very busy. I've been coming here for years! I'm very picky about where I take my dog and Rosie is amazing! I like the fact that she doesn't take a bunch of grooming appointments at once. I've been to groomers where you have to drop your dog off at 8am and pick up at 5pm and the whole time my dog would be sitting in a small cage. That's unacceptable to me. I trust Rosie with my baby girl, Olive and I have for years! Also my bf brought in his dog today to get her nails done. She's a strong lab and she doesn't like getting her nails clipped. Not a good vibe here. For starters, the owners and workers all seem like they hate dogs. The website prices are not accurately reflected and they upcharge for EVERYTHING - shampoo, conditioner, towels, etc. I live in LA and usually go to self washer stations and anywhere up there is under $20 and includes shampoo, conditioner, towels, and really anything else you need to wash your dog. The woman at the front desk charged us an additional $3.00 to use the de-shedding shampoo after charging $20 to just use the self-wash stations. My partner said she wasn't going to pay extra for shampoo and the owner told her "I'm not arguing with you over $3.00." Iv been taking my dog here for about a year , my mom takes her golden doodle her as well so that's how I heard of the place . First off I'd like to say they do such an amazing job ! He looks perfect when he is done and he is a highly anxious dog that is probably not easy to work on . Most of the time Iv gotten him groomed it has been with Rosie . She is always very sweet and gets the job done ! I have seen a few reviews on here talking about receiving bad customer service , i obviously wasn't there so I can't speak on other people's experiences. However I will say to those people , running a business Is not easy and especially a business where you are dealing with the energies of people as well as animals that are nervous about being there . Rosie and everyone else I have met here have always been respectful and got the job done perfectly . But on occasion, what I don't have in the backyard is hot water, so when I don't want to strain over the bathtub, I go to a place like this. We have been bringing our 12 year old Black Lab/Shepherd mix to The Mud Puppy for 11 years. Rosy and her staff are amazing. The stalls are always clean and fur free. I suggest calling before hand since certain days are very busy. She also does a wonderful job grooming dogs. I brought my mom's dog who has epilepsy, to The Mud Puppy to be groomed and Rosy took her time grooming him since he tends to have a seizure when he is nervous. If there was less than a one, I would give it. My wife dropped me off to personal wash our Golden Doodle. When I went in, a man helped me with the wash station as far as getting the gate set up. There were no supplies on it, so I went to the shelf to get a couple of options. They do have signs as far as specialty items. After I got started, the "owner" Rosie came up to me and stated, "You know I charge for each of those... I asked her what I should be using, and she looked around and got a shampoo off another station. I told her mine was not set up, and she had been watching and waiting until I used one. She rudely said well you should have asked." At one point the man came by again and put a towel on the floor cause my Doodle shakes alot of water, when I was drying her once I was done with one towel I put it down on floor with the one he had put down....well out trotted Rosie and I was in trouble again even though both towels looked the same I was not supposed to put it there. At that point, I just wanted out of there. I told her, "Don't worry, I would not be back she said ok. Once done, I asked her if she was going to upcharge me she said yes, and I asked her for the SPECIAL SHAMPOO. She wanted to know why, I was pretty pissed by now and told her if I was being charged for it I was going to dump it down the drain, she said why I didn't really use it I said EXACTLY then she got really rude and huffy and said fine if I'm going to argue then she would just not charge me....if you want to be treated like crap go here if not stay away and since she is the groomer I would never leave one of my pets with her!!! DON'T BRING YOUR PET HERE!! THEY CUT MY PUPPY'S SKIN OFF!!! My two little puppies Bichon need hair cut badly and this place is the one has availabilities. We brought the puppies in around 9am and picked them up at 2:00pm. She charged $10 extra per dog claiming they were severely matted. We have always been complemented by other groomers on how well we brush them. Also we had another Bichon for 14 years and we surely know how to take care of them. She only claimed so in order to charge us extra. When we brought puppies home, the older one seems pretty upset. We were thinking maybe just the grooming stressed him out. We found a big cut on the side of his head when we brushed him later of the day. We were so shocked a groomer could do something like this. My boyfriend found this place as we were in desperate need to bathe our dog. My boyfriend had called to confirm the hours and we explained that we'll be on the way but we'll make it a few minute later than the last call for baths. The lady he spoke to on the phone said it would be fine. When we got there we were greeted by a friendly sweet man. He let us in. He was very nice and respectful and carried on a conversation. During the bath, the lady we spoke on the phone with saw us and without a smile said 'oh they let you in'. I'm not sure if that was her 'not funny' sense of humor but it wasn't appreciated especially that it was our first time and don't have a relationship with that person. Injured my dog; We have two Bichon puppies that are now a year old. We got them after our 15 year old Bichon passed away. I tell you this to let you know I understand the amount of grooming and brushing they require. I brought them here and was told by the son of the groomer that they were in really good shape, something I have been told by groomers for years. He took the first dog back to wash him before his mom came into groom them. He didn't even brush him first which should have been my first red flag. Anyone that owns curly haired dogs know they need to be brushed first so that any possible matting doesn't get worse. I was quoted $50 per dog and when they called and said they were ready they told me it was $60 per dog. When I asked why she told me because of how badly matted they were. Really? This is the first time anyone has said this. These dogs get a bath once a week and are brushed at least every other day. When I came to pick them up my wife told her she didn't believe it knowing how much I brush them and when she does find matting my job is to brush it out. She then told us that they were so badly matted all over their head and legs. Instead of arguing with someone that doesn't know what they are talking about we unhappily paid and left. When we got home the one dog was so depressed and wouldn't play but we just chalked it up to a stressful day at the groomers. Then that night my wife found what we thought was a small cut on the side of his head. The next day when I brushed him and inspected it closer I was horrified to find a quarter size section of his skin gone. Not sure if it was cut or the hair was simply yanked out. No wonder he was depressed, he had been tortured by this woman. The pictures I'm posting with this review are the cleaned up version once I removed the blood from the surrounding hair. So instead of admitting she injured my dog she scolded us about how bad of shape both dogs were in. They provide just what you need for a simple bath for my large Lab/pit to get all freshened up(: they are quick to assure everything is going smoothly throughout the process and always offer help. Very sweet staff as well there's a picture I posted of the dog I bring but at a nearby groom salon I used to go to but do not go to anymore due to bad vibes (I take my vibes very seriously) hah. I rarely give a one-star rating.  But, like so many others have said, Rosie needs some lessons in customer service and proper behavior.  I had an appt. and when I came in she immediately said my dog was matted, without even touching her.  No, she wasn't but she needed a good brushing!  She's a small, 18# half pom/half mystery meat.  Very well behaved.  She needed a hair cut, for sure.  Her hair is not the typical pure-bred pom type but more of a collie type dog except around her front chest.  I wanted her shaved to 3/4" all over (I showed Rosie a pic of her normal cut) except for her chest left longer.  She said she would have to shave her totally down to the skin and I wasn't about to let that happen (I've seen the pics here where dog(s) have been burned!).  So,  I asked if it'd be okay if *I* brush her out first and she said yes.  And then I figured she would give her the cut I wanted.  But, 10 min. later a customer came in and Rosie said she would need the table I had my dog on to brush her.  So,  I asked for her to see if my brushing made it "okay" for her.  She took a tiny, narrow-toothed comb (like for a cat) and DUG into my dogs back in order to "prove" it was no good.  My dog yelped and spun around and Rosie said, "See, she tried to bite me".  ABSOLUTELY not!  Oh my - this woman has no business owning this shop - just totally inappropriate.  I left immediately. read more

I have two large dogs. One a German Shepherd which I've washed myself. When I called, They said they closed at 4 so I arrived at 3 o'clock and I got a mean scowl from the owner who works there saying that I needed to come earlier because she just cleaned the whole place. They need to adjust their hours then. She just seemed mad. No smile to greet me, only scowls. A few weeks later I brought my husky there for them to do the grooming for me. This time another employee greeted me, not with a smile but just no nonsense business attitude saying OK bring him back. When I picked him up three hours later, he looked amazing and all the undercoat was brushed out which was my goal, but for some reason his back was so tender he would howl every time we touched it. I don't know if they injured his back, or were just so rough with his skin that he had extreme tenderness. That actually went away after about a week of rest, otherwise we would have needed to take him in for an x-Ray. but it makes me wonder if they miss treated my dog while he was there. The price was right at $70, And not knowing his back was tender when I picked him up, I gave them a $20 tip because he did look amazing. All in all with the 2 experiences, the employees and owners here need to step up the kindness and the warmth. They just seem to not only hate their job, but hate their business.
