I took my Australian Shepherd there and specifically asked for a standard Australian Shepherd bath and groom. Not only did they shave all parts around his whole body (NOT An Australian Shepherd groom) they did a horrible job at it!! The groomer did not pay attention and cut too short on his fatty lump on his chest, and skinned it so now it's hurting him. This has never happened before so I know they weren't being careful. They didn't tell me about his cut, I had to find it myself. I've called and left voicemails with no response. Will NEVER be back!! read more

E mail notification received: Appointment confirmation for The Muddy Mutt on April 7, 2019 at 10:00am I dropped Z off about 0915, I spoke to the Trainer and he wrote down the grooming menu for her. I called The Muddy Mutt at 1130 am to see if I could pick Z up. I spoke with the Manager, Mary, who said Z was not ready but would be done by 5 pm. I was surprised by that response and Mary said I should probably call as Z might not even be ready by 5 pm. 7 hours + to groom a dog? I asked if my dog was being kept in a cage and if she had water. Mary said that Z was in the play area and was with other dogs and had access to water. I asked why it was taking 7 hours for a groom when I had a confirmed appointment. Mary said the new groomer was just really slow. Mary then said that Z had her nails clipped and was just now going in to get her bath. I thanked her for the information and we ended the call. I drove over to The Muddy Mutt and walked in. The 'play area for dogs' was just to the left of the reception area and was in fact an office (lie) with a dog gate. There was my dog, Z, barking and frustrated, no water (lie) and no other dogs (lie). I took a picture of my dog in the fake dog play area. My dog had not been bathed (lie) and her nails had not been clipped (lie). I looked at Mary, the Manager, and told her I was taking Z home. She then, without pause asked if I would like to reschedule. I told her I would never trust my dog at The Muddy Mutt again. She looked surprised. She apologized for the delay, but would never own the series of false statements that she had made to me. I listed Mary's false statements to me and she replied that she felt like she could not change my perspective. This was a BIZARRE moment as Mary just truly did not see her behavior or her lies as a problemit was business as usual. She stuck with her line that the trainer was really slow, and that that they have many walk-ins who have priority over the bathing areas. Huh, how do appointments fit in there? I impressed upon her the importance of honest communication and that I would have canceled if they thought they could not support their promise of a scheduled appointment. Mary just continued to defend herself and what happened. The only time Mary looked concern is when I asked her how that photo of my dog in the 'doggy play area' would look online? My dog LOVES the mud! It's almost impossible to keep him out of it and I'd hate to deny him dog park fun just because it rained the day before and there are left over mud puddles. I love that Muddy Mutt has self wash stations! It's definitely easier than doing it at home in the bathtub. For a pretty affordable price they have access to tubs, shampoo, brushes, dryers and ear cleaner. My dog doesn't love the bath (ironically since he loves all other types of water) so Muddy Mutt makes it so much easier to get him clean after super muddy days at the park. Also, the we wash option is great for every now and then when I want him to look extra spiffy! The staff are very nice and gave me an update of how my dog did during the service. I also like they send you a text when they're done so it's super easy to drop off and pick up. My pup also doesn't seem frightened of the big green building too so I know he's comfortable going there even if baths aren't his favorite. We came to give our dog a bath and asked for a nail trim before the bath. Our dog has light colored, easy to see nails. The tech cut the quick. There was a lot of blood. We comforted our dog and the manager got something to stop the bleeding and said casually, "it's only the quick." Eventually the tech came over and apologized. The blood was on the floor for quite a while with dogs walking through it before they eventually cleaned it up. Bath was ok. Room was very busy and half the dryers weren't working. When I went to the front desk to ask about getting a working dryer, an apathetic worker said I might want to just towel dry. We won't ever go back. read more

We will definitely be coming back for the self-wash service! The staff were super helpful and friendly! They helped me set my pup up in the tub and showed me how to use the equipment and supplies since it was my first time. They made sure that the tub was cleaned before I used it, too. It's a really great price considering you get temperature-controlled and pressure-controlled water, low vs high dryer, plenty of towels, brushes (coarse and fine), ear cleanser + cleaning pads, doggy cologne, four different types of shampoo + conditioner (including some for dry or sensitive skin), aprons, etc. Other self-service washes I've used only have one setting for their sprayer and blow dryer, and don't allow any type of grooming. There was no wait when I arrived and the whole process was seamless. The staff member also gave me a punch card to earn a self-wash. Great experience! Was able to get an appointment the same day. The building is tucked around the corner in a bright green building. There is limited parking however parking isn't necessary unless you decided to do the self-wash option. I dropped my pup off and she was fresh and clean ~2 hours later. She definitely did not smell dog anymore, she smelled like fresh flowers, her coat was conditioned and clean, and nails trimmed. The people at the Muddy Mutt were very professional and my pup warmed up to them quickly. I'll be using them again for future grooming needs! read more

Wow, the Muddy Mutt (dog self-wash) has really changed since I was there a couple of months ago. I got there at 9 am this morning (their opening time) and all the parking places (always a problem) were already gone. The tubs were all occupied by people who had brought more than one dog and were taking their time without any concern for the people waiting. After an hour and a half I succeeded a guy who had been waiting with two doodles who were on flexis (which as you know I think are Of The Devil).. He spent the whole time on his iPhone and ignoring his dogs who used the Flexi-Leads to block every dog trying to come into the front door, while Doofus-Man remained oblivious to it all. Once I finally got into the bathing area, I found that Doofus Man had sprayed water all over the entire area -- up to the windows -- which made it hazardous to navigate. The (unfriendly) three young girls at the front desk should have mopped this mess up for the safety of their clients, but they were too busy comparing tattoos and tattoos costs to bother with actual human beings. They did not appear to have any interests in the dogs or their clients. I was disgusted and don't plan to go back anytime soon. I am sorry because I have been a client of Muddy Mutt since shortly after they opened in 2009. read more

My very very fluffy Siberian/malamute mix came today after the dog park. I had no intentions of coming here today until koji made a wrestle buddy. He was so dirty I didn't think they would let him in. The front desk was very kind and juggling 3-4 dog families with ease. The water pressure was great and knocked out all the dirt. There were multiple shampoos and tools. The tubs were cleaner than the one at home. Koji got so much cleaner than he would have at home. Will be returning! read more

The convenience of this business is great but the last three times I've gone to the self wash they've run out of towels. This seems like an easy problem to fix (buy more and start doing loads of laundry immediately). In my last visit, I arrived and was told there was a wait for the self wash station, so my dog and I sat down. It was about 10min later that a customer came out asking the employees if they had any more towels. The employee said no. As soon as the employees know this, it seems like something the employees should tell customers in the lobby area before the customers waste their time waiting. Also, if you can't provide one of the basic elements of self wash, offer a discount of $2 off or something. It's extremely inconvenient to all the dog owners with double coated dogs, shaggy dogs, etc. This strikes me as basic business etiquette and it's lacking here. read more

Went for a self wash, so can't write about the staff ability. The staff seemed bored, tired and just didn't want to be there. I had to ask for them to squidgy the floor or dry it up as it was full of water I or anyone could've easily slipped. There didn't seem to be a drainage system and it was pretty bad especially as there was dark dog hair covering most of the floor. This and the humidity in there made it the first and last time visiting. Just no air circulation and way too much water on the floor. read more

Excellent place to take your dog to wash! Large basins and all supplies included! They clean and sterilize after each use. Pet park right outside door so you can always take your dog for doggy fun before their bath. The water on floor can build up if not pushed out but outside of that I love taking my Shepsky here! They were able to fit us in for a last minute grooming appointment, which I appreciated. But it all went down hill from there. When I picked up my dog, she was visibly shaken, more so than normal after a grooming appointment. I realized that they cut her nails way too short and they didn't buff them, so they hurt her, and were sharp, too. She started to smell like puppy after only a few days and no rigorous outdoor activity, but we chalked it up to her having an extra run around the yard. When I checked her ears today, just 6 days after the groom, I discovered the source of the smell was her ear which clearly had not been cleaned. Poor pup had a ton of junk in there. I paid way too much for my 11 lb little pup to not get a proper grooming. read more

Do not take your dog here. If that is all you read just take my advice. Takeaways: 1. Amateur cut 2. Trimmed nails WAY too far (they bled a LOT) 3. Completely unacceptable response to my frustration and nonchalant reaction to injuring my dog. Full story: We took our yorkie mix here for the first time just this week; all we needed was a simple sanitary trim and basic grooming and felt that the $65 they were asking was only slightly on the high side, but not exorbitant and certainly worth it for the care of our little thing! When my husband picked him up he seemed relatively normal and obviously excited to see him/ready to go. His trim wasn't TERRIBLE..though uneven on his snout and choppy in some places (he's missing most of his whiskers on his right side) but hair grows and-as I said- it could have been worse. He was at home with my husband for about two hours and then in his crate alone for no more than two hours at which point I returned home from work. I included pics in the review so you can see what I came home to. They had trimmed two of his nails so far back that they were still bleeding and in the two hours he was alone in his bed he must have either snagged a sizable scab on a blanket or somehow licked it off to cause all the blood. I was naturally terrified at what could have happened; I fully understand that black toenails are harder to handle but that is precisely why I take him to a PROFESSIONAL rather than attempt it myself. On that note, my veterinarian had no issue trimming them correctly and safely once already so it's certainly not impossible! In my discussion with them I even admitted that I could understand it happening to one toenail -if he squirmed or jumped- accidents can happen. However, this was not one, but two nails right next to each other. Furthermore, if that were the case, I would certainly expect them to warn us about the scab and to mind him for a few hours to be sure he didn't start bleeding again. No one said anything as they took our money and tip. And to make it worse, they were completely nonchalant in their response, calling what happened an "inconvenience". I've included their unsatisfactory email response to our experience below where they were sadly patronizing and even tried to up-sell us on the Dremel service. I wanted to give them a chance to right the situation before posting such a scathing review but they left me no choice and I just hope this helps you make the choice against this business - protect yourself and your pets! Needless to say we won't be back. (Response email): I apologize for the inconvenience ma'am but - in accordance with our standards - the best value I can offer is the 50% off your next appointment. We understand that accidents can happen, especially when a dog's nails are dark and the quick cannot be seen, there's always a risk that the quick might be cut since it's not easily visible. We always try to cut as close to the quick as we can, so that you get the most value for every nail trim. Given that the nail trim is only valued at $10, I felt that the 50% off your next grooming appointment was more than fair compensation for your dog's quicked nails. In the future, if you have concerns about us quicking Baxter's nails, we encourage you to request our dremel service. BEWARE! One of the worst groomers we have gone to. If I can give 0 stars I would give too. We scheduled a basic wash for our pup. We brought him in, they inspected him, and we agreed on the $40 price. Next thing I know they are texting me recommending we add a blush and blow out (full body) for an additional $30. We agreed. When the two hours was done, they said he was ready but that since his fur was thick and knotted, they wanted to add an additional $40 to brush him and remove the knots. We finally had to say enough was enough. He was only half brushed when we took him home and his fur was still wet. His ears still looked dirty and nails were not trimmed. Don't come here-they will continue to add more and more fees and their work is not worth the money! read more

I called twice on Monday to schedule a self-wash, reached voicemail, and asked to be called back. Never was called back. So on Tuesday I took a chance on walking in, but called from the dog park first to see if I could just walk in. The girl said "yeah" when I asked if I could just walk in; when I said "Thank you" and "goodbye" she said "yeah" and hung up. I won't go into whatever happened to "you're welcome" and "goodbye"....... When I walked in, the girl was on her cell phone. The tub had not been cleaned up; there was water all over the floor, and I will NOT be going back. There are other self-wash places that will get off their cellphones long enough to clean up their workplace and be polite to their customers. read more

This used to be the best spot in the DC area for self-washing and grooming, but it has recently gone downhill. We went for a self-wash today, and all of the brushes and grooming tools were absolutely filthy and full of hair. The aprons were also being reused, and they didn't seem to be taking COVID very seriously (like why weren't the doors open to help with air flow). Our last grooming appointment was terrible too. The dogs seemed traumatized when we picked them up, and it never used to be that way. Such a shame to see such a great place go downhill like this.
