This is a great little joint, very clean and not frantic. I cheaped out (natch) and had the $20 YouSwoop (+tip on the non coupon price!), but the service I got was worth way more! I do have the sexiest feet you'll ever see, but now they are even better looking. Perfectly groomed, just the way I like 'em. I started out this pedicure season with a fetching shiny blue pedi. Futuristic. Very 2012. On my nails, a neutral, neat light tan - very clean looking 'cos my nails are short right now. Foot massage . . . ahhhhhhh . . . and hand massage . . . another ahhhh . . . Better than, nope - I'm not goin' there. They were playing the first Sex and the City movie when I was there. However, I had to make sure I was finished up before they get to Big + Carrie's wedding at the end. I knew I'd burst into tears, I always do for that scene, and didn't want to bust a wet eye in front of everyone. I was, and scurried out before I had to surruptitiously wipe any tears away. I went to get a no-chip manicure exactly one week ago after work. Since all the employees were busy and I had walked in without an appointment, I had to wait a bu. It wasn't long before someone was able to take care of me. Usually I don't go to salons I'm not familiar with but I was very satisfied with how my nails turned out! Since I do a lot of typing and cleaning around the house, my nails usually chip in less than a week. 7 days later and my nails are in great shape! Will definitely come back. Very nice lady. She didn't know how to file, especially for an almond or oval shape. She did almost ruin my nail shape completely. I had to file myself unfortunately. I didn't get a manicure, just removed no chip and replaced. She still cleaned up my cuticles a bit. Also left with some bumps and scratches on my shape. All for $40, not the worst. I rolled in at 7:15 for a regular manicure. They said they had time to do it before they closed at 8:00. The manicure itself was fine aside from the nail painting. Halfway though the first coat I told the guy it looked streaky and lumpy. He said the 2nd coat would help. It didn't. I had an appointment at 8:30 I had to go to... and he was still painting my nails at 8:28. I also wanted an accent nail and he painted the same color on all the nails. I should have been paying better attention. But when he realized, he went to go remove the polish on those two nails and start over, but I just didn't have the time. Luckily I was able to get my nails to dry quickly, but I just want to go back tomorrow and have it fixed, honestly. They look awful down by the cuticles. read more

My friend Susana passed along a coupon for a $20 mani-pedi (cash only) for the Nail House so I turned it into a girly catch-up evening with my girl, SJ. This is a great location because there is plenty of parking along Clybourne, especially on a weeknight when we went. Overall, the service was good, comparable to other nail salons. They had nice massage chairs as well as flat screen TVs playing...you guessed it...Sex and The City, The Movie. If I remember correctly, I think it is BYOB and possibly Bring yo' own snacks too because there was another set of girlfriends and they were having a glass of wine and snacks. I used a YouSwoop for a deluxe spa mani-pedi and overall was pleased with the experience (although not necessarily the paint job). The location is great - right off the North and Clybourn red line stop and loads of fun stores around if your partner/friend/whatever needs a distraction for an hour while you're gettin' your spa on. I loved the overall experience - I was seated in a divine massage chair for 20 minutes while the pedicurist soaked my feet, gave me a nice leg and foot massage and painted my toes. I had a perfect view of the TV and enjoyed watching Sex and the City - it was really relaxing. The manicure was nice as well, they took their time and treated me well. However, I don't think it was the best paint job ever because 24 hours later I can already see that it won't last very long. I feel like I got a good experience for what I paid for, though, and would go back just to sit in that chair and have my feet rubbed while watching SATC! read more

I have been going to the nail house for 4 years. They have always done a great job at a great price. They recently changed ownership and upgraded all of the chairs and equipment. It looks awesome inside. It's a small shop, but they are nice, and do a great job. A few months ago I dropped something very heavy on my toe, and I run a lot, so my toenail has been half falling off for a while. The Nail House is a solid place to get a pedicure, and at $25, the price is right. I wasn't sure if I needed to make an appointment for a Friday afternoon, but I did so just to be on the safe side. I was glad I did as every station was full when I walked in. I was greeted and instructed to pick out my polish. From what I can tell, they only offer Essie, but they literally had every color in the line. Normally I have to settle for a color close to what I want, but in this case, I had the opposite problem as they had almost too many choices. My pedicure started on time and I grabbed a stack of trashy magazines to bide my time, but then I quickly got sucked into watching "Sex and the City 2," which plays continuously. Watching the movie for the second time pretty much reinforced what a terrible movie it was, so I stuck to reading the gossip rags. My nail tech was a little too rough for me, but others who enjoy a deep foot rub will appreciate her talents. She was quick but thorough, and prettied my toes to a gorgeous shade of hot pink. It's close to the Red Line and a mani/pedi combo is only $30. That's about as cheap as you'll find anywhere, let alone Lincoln Park. I will be back. read more

I haven't even been here yet and they've been AWFUL. I bought a Groupon last spring and have now tried 4 times to make an appointment. They have never had any availability. I contacted Groupon and found out that the business apparently has to honor my Groupon so long as I make an appointment before it expires; I told the man who answered the phone @ The Nail House this. Finally. OK, so I was one of the dummies who bought a youswoop, did NOT make an appointment, then proceeded to roll in there the Friday before my wedding (with my momma) and get DENIED. On momma's return trip to hang with me for a weekend post-wedding, I smartly made appointments. Book early, peeps. They book up fast. BUT. It's worth it. Personally, I have seen every single episode of Sex and the City AT LEAST ten times. Not that I'm really proud of that, but I just have. I still love it. So watching it as my feet are whipped into two soft, lady-like bits makes me happy. Excellent color options in Essie and OPI always put a smile on my face. No exception here. i found the perfect minty-sea foam green for my toes and a lovely pink for my fingers. Perf. The pedicure was the best I have had in a really long time. The tech took her time scrubbing, massaging, and polishing my feet. She must have known that I don't quite get to splurge on my nails much anymore. The manicure was similarly attentive. My fingers lasted a solid week sans major chippage. This is good in my book. My toes still look pretty good three weeks later. From the few times I've gone here to get a pedicure, they do a great job at nails and there are not a lot of nail salons to choose from in the area within walking distance of where I live. However two things: You absolutely need an appointment here, especially on the weekends. They are always booked/busy (probably going back there isn't a lot to choose from in the area.) And why one star: They will give you the higher end pedicure ($37) aka "spa pedicure" if you just say "pedicure." You MUST say "$27 pedicure" or they default automatically to the more expensive one without saying anything to you. This has happened to me and I really think it's shady. When I voiced my concern over the price, the lady said to me, "you asked for the spa pedicure." Hmmm sure. read more

Wow. It seems so mean to give just one star, but it is what it is. The only reason I strayed from my friends at TG Nails on Southport is because of the youswoop coupon - $24 for a "deluxe" mani-pedi, plus half off waxing a body part of my choice. There was nothing, absolutely nothing, deluxe about my experience. Maybe compared to other salons, but again, compared to the double massage and exfoliation at TG that you get with a regular mani-pedi, my Nail House experience was a letdown. There was no exfoliation, minimal massage, and there are still bits of cuticle hanging off my fingers. The polish doesn't even go all the way to the ends of my nails, and there are also polish smudges around my fingertips. They also didn't have any quick-dry oil or spray which I always thought was the norm at the drying table. The employees were friendly enough and the place was clean, (although the waxing room was rather frightening - more of a corner of the shop with a curtain pulled around it), so that is where they earned their lone star. Without your keen eye for selecting nail salons that I would never had batted an eyelash at, I would have never discovered this truly hidden gem in the North/Clybourn neighborhood. No really, it is kind of hidden. The salon sits a bit back from the street, on the second level, through a doorbell-ringing storefront. I read the reviews of my fellow Yelpers before coming here, and truth be told I was a little leery before my appointment. However I put everyone's concerns to the test and came to my own conclusions, as we should all do! My two girlfriends and I had mani/pedis for my friend's birthday, and the manager was nice enough to accommodate my second friend who was only going to have a mani but decided there that she'd like the full service, too. The service: Spectacular! An hour and 45 minutes of pampering bliss. The pedicure came with an exfoliating rub down, which felt great after high steppin' around in sandals all day, and a generous foot and calf massage with lotion. I believe the manager was taking care of me, and good Lord did she. My feet and calves were like butter when she was finished. She took a lot of time with both treatments, and gave me an amazing massage on my hands and arms, followed by a hot towel wrap. No getting up to wash your hands here, ladies. The best part, my itty bitty nails literally look like the polished nails in magazine ads. I kid you not. And here we are, FIVE DAYS later, and not a chip in sight. That never, ever happens to me. I've been to Alpine Valley, the beach and cookouts since my mani/pedi and still no chip. It's magical. The salon: Feminine paint on the walls, a large flat screen continuously playing the first Sex & the City movie ( I believe they are going to acquire the second...) about five stations each for manis and pedis, and a nice reception area chock full of Essie and OPI polish. The crucial spoke to this wheel, this is the cleanest salon I have ever been to. And believe you me, I looked. Behind the pedicure chairs, under the desks, spotless. Not a dust bunny or loose drop of polish in sight. And of course plenty of current magazines for me to find out the latest in the Kristin Stewart/Rob Pattinson love whirlwind ( I hate you KStew). Nice drying station with the warming lights. My only gripe is the drying station doesn't blow air on your nails, so they take longer to dry and twits like me mess up my nails and then the technicians have to fix it before I leave. I apologize to future techs who do my nails. I'm a klutz. The Nail House also offers chair massages and waxing of all sorts. You really can't beat a $20 mani pedi in Chicago. I have been here twice thanks to youswoop. It's best to make an appointment a week in advance if you want to come here on a Saturday. This is one of my favorite spots because they play Sex and the City all day long. I did not want to leave after my nails are done! Unfortunately they do a half-arse job scrubbing and lotioning your feet. Honestly Jacki and Henry at Image Nails were the only 2 people who know how to do a superb pedicure. But I am on a budget so I have to settle... No wait ever if you make an appointment ahead of time. And they always have a huge selection of color and magazine. I've been hopping around from one typical walk-in nail salon to another for years in the Lincoln Park area, and this place is hands down (pun-intended :) the best salon for gel and acrylic nails. It's a smaller operation, but very clean, very friendly staff and walk-in appointments are always accepted (even for my fills). I was actually recommended by a friend of a friend, wish someone would have pointed me in their direction sooner. This place is ridiculous! First, they rarely answer their phone when you call for an appointment and you have to book over a week out. Is this a Doctors office or a nail salon? I liked that The Nailhouse was close to the red line, played the Sex and the City movie, and of course the $30 mani/pedis. I came in today after work and was helped right away. They have a good color selection compared to a lot of the other nail salons I frequent. The woman who did my mani/pedi was super sweet and was very thorough. I didn't feel rushed at all, although they were certainly busy by the time I left! My nails look great, I'm relaxed, and it only cost me $30. I'm knocking off one star because the pedicure chairs didn't give a great massage, but everything else was great! I will definitely be returning. read more

Shady. It's clean, it's inexpensive, the place looks nice and the service is polite. I will say all of this with no reservations. However... I knew something was strange when I noticed yesterday - just one day after I had my nails done at The Nailhouse - that 2 of my new 'gel' nails were lifting. I ran my fingers thru my hair absentmindedly about an hour ago and one was snagged so badly that I just popped it off. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that all of my nails were lifting at the edges, save for my pinkies. To add insult to injury, the polish job I'd received was chipping horribly. I showed my nails to a co-worker and she also remarked that she had never had gel nails that lifted so quickly, or so many. I had gone in on Monday for a set of gel nails, but come yesterday I started to suspect that maybe I had received acrylics. Now, I admit freely that I am no nail esthetician, nor have I been schooled on all the various intricacies of nail application, chemistry, etc. I Googled, I visited overly-detailed nail care message boards and professional nail tech associations' FAQ pages, the works. I wanted to be VERY sure what I was saying was true before thudding down a 1-star review, so I also called a nail tech instructor at a beauty school to verify what I actually had on my nails. She asked me: - did the nail tech dip a brush into purple liquid and then into powder and apply it to your nail? I answered Yes. And so, she informed me, I am wearing acrylics. Which I specifically said I did not want, and which are applied very poorly. I would also complain about being charged for gels when I received acrylics, but they charge the same ($30) for both acrylics and gel nail sets. The instructor went on to say that true gel overlays are applied with a premixed solution; a GEL. Not powder and liquid mixed, a gel. She also said that the UV box they used at the very end was more to cure the manicure than anything else. Well, here I thought I'd gotten a crazy deal; $30 for a full set of gel nails, unheard of in this town. As with so many things, however...this was too good to be true. Now that I know definitively - because if you can't trust a nail tech instructor at an internationally-accredited beauty school, who can you trust? - that they gave me acrylic nails instead of gels, I'm not even going to go back as originally planned to repair the first two nails that were lifting. In the brief walk to the bathroom just now, I removed every last nail with more ease than removing Lee Press-ons when I was 13. Came right off, like nothing. Barely even adhered. $30 +tip for 2 days of lifting, fake nails that weren't even what I asked for. I can't abide by unethical business practices in a nail salon (among other places). Oh and $18 to paint my 8 year olds fingers and toes - not cut or file them - JUST PAINT THEM! A group of us went here as a kick off to my girlfriend's bachelorette weekend - we all had groupons which we bought to use this very day. Told the Nail House this when we booked our appointments and when we got there they would not accept the groupons! It had been over a decade since my last manicure so I decided the $20 mani/pedi Youswoop would be a good chance to pamper myself. before today, I never had a pedicure! Obviously I don't really have anything to compare Nail House to, but I enjoyed the service. My friend and I walked in around noon on a Tuesday and the wait was only a few minutes. The pedicure was awesome and relaxing. The nail tech exfoliated my feet and calves, scrubbed my nasty feet with a stone, and cut and filed my nails while I sat in the massage chair. The hand massage during the manicure was a nice, relaxing touch! Afterward, I had to sit at a table with my hands under a light to dry them. One of the techs was even nice enough to help me pull my pant legs down and put my coat on! The techs are very attentive and we had great service. I will definitely be back! read more

I purchased a certificate to this place from youswoop.com. It was for a deluxe spa mani-pedi. I didn't know what the difference between the deluxe and the regular mani-pedis was but I was sure excited to find out. I made an appointment for a Saturday during the 4th of July weekend. The appointment was for 4:30pm. When I arrived for my mani-pedi, one of the nail techs immediately said, we're closing soon so can we do your mani and pedi at the same. I was perplexed at first but agreed to it nonetheless since I was already there. But seriously, why would any business accept an appointment at 4:30 if they're expecting to close at 5pm??? I proceeded to the massage chair. I had 1 tech working on my pedi and another tech working on my nails. Don't get me wrong. The nail techs were extremely nice and talented. They rushed through my entire mani-pedi and I in turn couldn't really relax and enjoy the experience. When I checked out, I asked them what the regular price was and they said $38...which is the price for the REGULAR mani-pedi. Apparently, I was rushed and didn't even get to enjoy the deluxe spa mani-pedi of my certificate. After leaving The Nailhouse, I noticed that the polish on my fingernails had bubbles. This is most likely due to the fast re-application of the polish layers. In other words, the nail tech didn't allow enough time for each layer to dry before applying additional coats. For Chicago, this place is unbeatable. I'm a conoisseur of the cheapo mani-pedi, which in Chicagoland is anything sub-$35. Nail House offers a daily $30 mani-pedi. Full disclosure, I came with YouSwoops, but I'll be back at full price. Feels and looks nice and quasi-spa-like inside; it's always nice when the decor doesn't scream "cheap nail joint" (even though that's why I'm there). Everything feels very clean and appropriately sterilized. The massage chairs are some of the best I've encountered. Yay massage chairs! The mani-pedi itself is quality, too. The technicians don't feel like they're rushing. You get a truly decent callus removal. There's an exfoliating scrub, a brief leg massage, and a hot towel wrap. Mmm, hot towel wrap. They have a great selection of Essie polishes. They have the UV dryers (not always a feature of the cheapo mani-pedi!). Plus, I always get some guilty entertainment in the form of endlessly looped Sex and the City episodes. Convenient but obscure location on Clybourn just north of the North Ave intersection and Red Line stop. Win. read more
