We finally shot a 5 pointer today with The Namak. The owner (our server today) is obviously proud of his restaurant. So proud that he boldly told us the Chicken Tikka would beat any other we have had. It was pretty darn delicious. And when paired with their (quiet!-secret menu) cheese Naan and Tandoori chicken with that tamarind sauce - your tongue will say POW! Trip to the moon! Everything tasted fresh and was served hot. The place was spotless clean and very pleasantly decorated. Bathrooms clean. Nice quiet mood music. Service was attentive and friendly. We felt the $47 meal was fairly priced for two people. If I had to find a fault I would say I would rather the tasty Tandoori Chicken was served as 4 larger pieces rather 6 small ones so there is a better meat to bone ratio. Tried Namak and was not disappointed. Let's talk about the food first. We ordered the fish pakora for appetizer, chicken tikka masala medium spicy, and chicken tandoori, and garlic naan for entrees. The pakora was awesome. Unlike most places I'ce tried that cover the fish with so mych batter, I can barely taste the fish, this one was not like that. Chunky filets of fish more than enough for me and my husband. Tikka masala is my baseline. If Im not happy with the masala, I will not return. It was perfectly creamy, savory, and sweet at the same time. I will come back. Tandoori chicken was sooo tender and flavorful. Finally, the naan was fresh, perfectly light and garlicky good. Prices were reasonable considering the portions and quality. Service was also lovely. We went for Friday lunch and it wasn't busy. The Pakora was well seasoned and cooked just right a very nice introduction to their food as it genuinely gave us an insight of the rest of the food that we ordered which consisted of the American staple dish when at an Indian restaurant which of course is Chicken tikka masala. The creamy tomato curry sauce was very nice and we ordered mild when asked about our preferred heat level and it was mild so for those who don't like spicy hot their mild is mild with virtually no heat. We also like the Aloo gobi and it too was bold and flavorful but not spicy at all but of course if you like spicy hot they'll make it that way too! We soaked up the tikka masala sauce with their tasty & soft on the top and slightly crispy bottomed garlic and cheese naan. The star of the night tho was the Tandoori Boti Kabob. Succulent pieces of moist chicken breast spiced perfectly and it was super flavorful. 10 out of 10 for sure. The new owners are super friendly and attentive which made us feel good. For our newest local addition, I highly recommend Namak. From the moment we walked to when we left, it was thoroughly enjoyable. The food is perfection. From our pakora chart to our goat curry. Each bite perfectly spiced. Definitely try the 10piece chicken tandoori bohda at medium spice. My goodness, each kabob remained succulent to the last bite. The curried goat had the meat tender and not hidden by an over curried sauce. The Bhinti of okra gave us individual okra pieces yet not overwhelmed by sauce. The spiciness goes from mild, medium and hot. I like a good spice so the medium was just right. The plain naan was crisp in all the right spots and soft were it should be. The menu has lots of vegetarian and vegan options. The offer beer and wine but menu for that is still building. Bring your own or ask. Benny, the owner and our server, was warm, welcoming and just fun to talk too. It is a small dining room but warm and inviting. Good colors and not overly decorated. Today I ordered the Nihari Beef (Weekend Special). When it came out, it was one small chunk of beef. When I tried to cut it, I was unable to due to the fact it was not tender. When the waiter asked what I thought, I told him it was not tender. He ignored me and then 5 minutes later I retold him and showed him that I could not even cut into the meat and it was not edible. He took the dish back to the kitchen, came back out several minutes later with it on a another plate showing me that it had a large bone in it. The rest of the tiny piece of meat was inedible, fatty, chewy, and a complete waste of money. When going to pay, I asked to speak to the manager. I was told they just left. There was nothing done to try and rectify the situation. It was just, sorry it sucked, have a nice life. Wouldn't recommend for customer service alone. read more

Great Indian and Pakistani Halal Restaurant in Hercules! We had a late lunch/early dinner today at THE NAMAK in Hercules at: 848 Willow Avenue. This hidden gem is in the little shopping center off of 80 at the Willow exit in Hercules. This family-owned restaurant is under new ownership and just opened at the beginning of June (see most recent reviews on Yelp and Google). The food is delicious and the staff are personable and attentive. This restaurant offers a full menu of traditional Indian/Pakistani options. The owner, Benny, talked with us at length about what he hopes The Namak will bring to the Hercules and beyond community. The Namak is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11am-9pm and is not closed between lunch and dinner so, for folks like us, who like an early dinner, it is a perfect place to dine. In addition to the restaurant, The Namak owns and operates a large banquet hall next to the restaurant (for up to 170 people), which is available to rent for events as well as offering catering services. We will be returning to The Namak to eat and will, most definitely, recommend this restaurant to friends and family.
