Enjoying a family meal at Vegan and Chicken.
    Andrew D.

A very good and local Indian cuisine restaurant in the heart of El Sobrante. On the several occasions I've been there the food has been consistently good. The curries, the naan bread, and rice are excellent. The set up is reminiscent of the old Naan and Curry in San Francisco and Berkeley where you walk in and place your order at the counter, help your self to the plates and utensils and go to a vacant table of your choosing as your food is being prepared. Also as the best part , free Chai is provided that you serve yourself as well. The local Indian community in the area frequents this establishment, so you know the food here legitimate and good.

I ordered this for delivery a while back since I had an opportunity to get it for a low delivery fee to Berkeley. The order was correct and came in the time range that I was told it would. I got paneer tikka masala, papadum, and mango lassi. Paneer tikka masala: Salty and actually spicier than I expected. I didn't order rice or naan to go with it this time, so I had to pause a bit while I was eating it since I have low tolerance for spiciness, unfortunately. It would go well with a carb especially if you like your food spicy. Papadum: Tangier flavor than I expected, but it's great. Just have to be careful when you bite into it or break into pieces since it's hard and crisp, so it'll easily crumble and lead to little pieces flying everywhere. Mango lassi: Sweet, creamy, I only wish there were more!

Tandoori Chicken and Tandoori Shrimp. Both seasoned to be spicy.

The Good: They have the best tandoori chicken of any place around here. I've tried them all and this is the spot to go. If it wasn't for how amazing their tandoori is, I might've gave them a lower rating. This, coming from a Desi person. Their naan and roti are delicious and the roti is whole wheat. Online ordering system is good. Very convenient and simple. The Bad: Their fried chicken is super salty. I couldn't eat more than 2. Also, if you order food in different spice levels, they don't label them. If you and friends/family get the same dish, but mild, medium and spicy. You'll just have to taste each others foods to try and find out what is what.

If I could eat Indian food every day, I would. If I lived near this place, I would buy in bulk and eat it three times a day. It is THAT good. The people are friendly and you immediately feel at home when you walk in. Prices are really great, and the garlic naan... I cannot even describe how good it is and it is the size of a pizza. If you want ambiance, this might not be the place but if you want superb eats, this is the place!

Came here again and this place does NOT disappoint. I came with my family and we got 2 orders of chicken tikka masala, 1 order of lamb Tikka masala, 1 order of butter chicken, and 3 garlic naan's. Everything was delicious, fresh, and smelled soooo good. Service was quick and super friendly as always.

Many dishes in the photo including tandoori fish, Aloo Ghobi, and Lamb Biryani and Chicken Biryani.

Home cooking and tasty. Prices were very fair. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Plenty of options to choose from for vegetarians.

It was fresh and piping hot. The food was delicious and had great flavor. You get a lot of food for $20. I guess they don't do the lunch buffet anymore. They have a fairly large menu so there's plenty of dishes to choose from. The server was friendly and made sure we always had nan on hand. This location has a lot of turnover. I hope they will be here for a long time. Looking forward to returning to try more!

Perhaps they had an off night, but not only did my delivery take over an hour to arrive (I live about a mile away), the chicken korma was gross. I ordered breast meat to avoid any chicken fattiness, but the texture was weird. Not sure if it was undercooked, overcooked but it was so rubbery I could literally feel and hear my teeth biting through it. So gross. My $30 order ended up in the compost and had to make a sad grilled cheese sandwich for dinner instead. On the plus side, Uber offered me a discount on my next order due to the delayed delivery, but I will stick to my go-to Indian restaurant from now on. Lotus Cuisine all the way!!!

I've been a fan of Bangladeshi cuisine ever since I tried it for the first time during a trip to…read moreNew York a few years ago. So when my friend (a regular) decided to take me to her favorite restaurant, I was eager--and glad I wasn't disappointed. Being a foodie myself, and accompanied by another foodie, we didn't hold back and tried quite a few items . We started our meal with seasoned fries (5/5), chicken kebab (5/5), chicken lollipop (4/5), and samosas (3/5). I prefer traditional dough wrappings for samosas, but the potato filling here was really flavorful. We ordered three entrées to share, and everything was 5/5. Chicken tikka masala with garlic naan is one of my favorite meals and my staple when visiting any Indian restaurant, so I know a good one when I try it. I wouldn't say this was the best I've ever had, but I was definitely not disappointed--both of us enjoyed it. The creamy goat rezala curry was a dish I hadn't tried before. As a goat meat lover, it's rare to find diverse goat dishes in restaurants beyond the usual curry or biryani. The meat was super tender, and the creamy, flavorful sauce paired perfectly with polao rice. And last but not least--my favorite item from the menu--chicken biryani. (Mind you, Bangladeshi biryanis are totally different in flavor and texture compared to Indian or Pakistani versions.) The generous amount of well-seasoned, tender chicken with flavorful rice was like happiness in every bite. I was especially impressed with the rice--it could've been my favorite part of the meal even without the chicken. When we arrived at the restaurant, there were three other groups dining. We visited on a Tuesday afternoon around 2 p.m., so I imagine it gets busier during peak lunch or dinner hours. The service was friendly and quick--we were well cared for and attended to throughout our visit. It's a small, family-owned restaurant focused on delivering authentic meals, so don't expect flashy interiors for Instagram. Just go for the food--and you won't be disappointed. The price was reasonable considering the quality and portion of each items. I'm really thankful my friend brought me here. If I lived nearby (I live in the Peninsula), I'd probably be a regular too. But I'll definitely visit again whenever I'm in the area.

Apparently their ticketing system is down and they aren't answering their phone. They are understaffed and only have two people managing the whole restaurant and can't handle The GrubHub orders, walk-ins, and reservations along with the online orders. After an hour waiting for my pick up order, I learned that they don't even have the food that I ordered. And, even though I ordered it online, because I ordered directly through the restaurant there is no way for me to cancel my order and get my money back. So I had to pick something else on the menu. My confirmation said my food would be ready at 7:20 and my substitute food will be ready at 8:30. I highly recommend that you don't order anything from here unless you have at least two hours, you're not attached to getting what you actually ordered, and you're willing to come in and find out that they never got your order.

Welp, I came in again finally. Last time I was in here was 2023 (I left up my last review so you…read morecould see I was a fan of this place). Had a lot of beers left over from before Covid so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I've been trying to come back here for the last 4 weeks. Came by 4 times. The first three times it was closed - during open hours. The first time they had a sign "family emergency" which is understandable. The last two times I came by during open hours and they were just closed. Not acceptable. I'm guessing other people who kept coming by during open hours only to find them close will not come back again. Today, October 31, 2025 was going to be the last time - if they were closed again I would not come back. They were open. I went in and looked at the beers. There's a lot of really dirty bottles in the fridge. I pulled a Knee Deep out and looked at the date. It said 2015. I thought maybe it was so dirty I wasn't reading it right. Pulled out another one. 2015. Pulled out some other bottles. More from 2015 and 2016. We're in 2025. This is not a typo or a gag. He's selling beers from 2015. And he's selling this at full price. 7 bucks a pop. IPAs have a shelf life. Imagine getting a bottle of Knee Deep Citra home that you paid 7 bucks for and getting the tasteless, flat, bad water you're going to have with a ten year old bottle of beer. Kept looking. Found one 4 pack that was from May of this year - that was it. That was the only one I could find of the beers I looked at that was semi-recent. Some of the stuff had no date - knowing they sell decade old beer I would not buy any of it. Then I found one four pack that was from 2014. 2014. Eleven years ago. This is not a typo. He sells beer from 2014 in 2025 as fresh, full priced beer. IPAs. Never again. This is a place called "BOTTLES" who's main deal is his craft beer. And he's selling decade old beer at full price (shouldn't be selling decade old beer at any price). I used to be a big fan of this place - now I just want to warn people - if you go here for beer - look at the dates. And if you get a chance, sort the reviews here on yelp for Bottles by stars and look at the other one star reviews. All the one star reviews are the same as mine - complaining about old beer. But these are all from 2019 and before. So this guy was doing it back then - and the beers I'm seeing here today are probably the same beers these people back in 2019, 2018, 2017 were complaining about - still in the freezer. I give Bevmo crap for selling year old beer. Imagine selling 11 year old beer at full price. Unethical and incredibly bad business. Never again.
