My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Nicolett. Cool spot off the beaten path, buildings on the property are really cool, the dining room space is very nice with an intentional Texas feel. We did the Chefs tasting menu, which was a really cool journey through fun, well plated dishes. Flavors were really good and well prepared. Pace of the courses coming out was perfect and both my wife and I were impressed that the sum of all the courses were the perfect amount of food. This place has done an excellent job creating a great dining experience all the way around. To my knowledge there is nothing else like this in Lubbock. Certainly a destination restaurant as the owners intended. read more

We would not recommend. Although waitstaff was wonderful during our last visit, that fact could not make up for overwhelmingly dismal performance at every other turn. First, we canceled another reservation in favor of The Nicolett because we thought the venue would provide an intimate setting for conversation. It did not. This restaurant should assign someone to monitor the music volume. What might be an acceptable volume for a restaurant full of diners is not acceptable when only four diners in the restaurant are trying to enjoy their meals while conversing with one another. The menu---I am sorry, but the menu is simply lacking, and I hate that for this restaurant. It is limited and, although, there was an attempt to offer innovative items, everything fell short. This was not our first experience at The Nicolette. It was our third and last dining experience. Placing a few fennel seeds in yeast bread and topping it with shaved sea salt and carefully entitling menu items to include herbs and vegetables that may not be included in homestyle family meals simply does not do it. I hate to write this review bc we want restaurants to succeed in Lubbock, but paying hundreds of dollars for a meal that falls short every time is not acceptable. We stopped trying happy hour after our fourth visit. During our third and fourth visit, we asked to order bread (not gratis but per item) and were essentially told: "Too sad, too bad; we have it, but you must wait another 15 minutes for dinner service." Came to town from Dallas to see my daughter. Wanted a great meal. We ordered the fish. It was a fillet served 1/2 portion of fish. Nothing else on the plate but 3 garlic cloves. Literally. 45.00 I live in Highland Park in one of the most expensive areas in our state. The nicest restraunt is Bilboquet. You get a plate of fish. The whole thing. Sautéed mushrooms, risotto, and a lovely sauce. 32.00. This place last night was a joke, we were the only table for 45 minutes. One other couple came in towards the end. Great concept. But you missed the boat and the email. You will not survive. The price equated to zero value in your servings. We were starving after our 200.00 dinner. 2 drinks, 2 salads. 2 fish entrees. This newish restaurant makes great food. They are emulating a specific style of French cuisine and I think they do it justice. The building is amazing but hard to locate your first time there. Parking in back through alley. My only concern is whether they can survive serving such tiny portions. Anywhere else in town, $35 gets you a meal. Here it is 4 bites of meat (cooked perfectly, but it's a taste rather than a meal). We ordered almost every starter on the menu and still didn't leave full. Maybe I'm just too uncultured for such a place, but spending $250 to leave hungry makes it unlikely we'll frequent this place. If you are a grown man, I recommend snacking before your $100 worth of food. Great staff, great food, but if I'm paying this much I would like more than a taste of the food. read more

It took them forever to serve the food. They do not have bottled water and they try to sell sparkling water to you. I needed to take my medicine and that was not a good option for me. Everything is super fancy , look good but doesn't taste right. We ordered 3 different salads and only one was ok. We ordered 5 different dishes for 3 people and the brisket and fish were ok. They forgot to bring stake knife and we had to wait a long time for our waitress to ask her for a knife. They have a fried bread that is really goid and i an giving this one star only to that item. Underwhelmed and overpriced. Food was good, but don't go if your hungry. Portions are very small and pricey. Bread plate with 4 small rolls was $10. Bread was good but not worth the money. Food was good but not outstanding. Had to send salmon dish back because it wasn't cooked as ordered. Service was good but not very knowledgeable about the wine list. This place has very very good food. It's not your typical Lubbock restaurant so don't go expecting that. It's pretty expensive with small dishes. All the food was very good except the chicken which I wasn't a fan of because I think it was boiled. The ambiance of the place is something you won't find anywhere else in Lubbock. read more

First things first- Exciting to have a "Michelin Chef" in Lubbock and a new classy place in downtown Lubbock. While opening during a pandemic is hard for all - The Nicolett did it and that's speaks volumes! Best wishes for success! We enjoyed takeout during their soft opening and while beautifully done dishes and great directions on cooking at home, the steak is much different in a way that I found lacking - the cut is divine in it literally cuts like butter however; the flavor is bland and somewhat sweet- not something my palate is used to in West Texas where steak is king. Our group found portions small, flavor different and pricing high. We also enjoyed their house wine which is "McPherson" local wine and that was great. Our 2nd visit here was date night with another couple, and ambiance was a bit off as the fireplace was "not working", staff/server did not know cocktail list or wines offerings well. Our dinner was fantastic rolls- we ordered 2 different types and shared our dinner of which was barbacoa, posole, fried leaf, mashed potato all of which were full of flavor, just very small portions. Good place and different for Lubbock dining - will be an option for something different on occasion. read more

The taste of the food was 5-star but the wait time and the portions were 1-star. I would suggest when you go to order from each section of the menu to build your meal. We only ordered bread and then the main course. We were so hungry after waiting an hour and a half from the tiny bread to the meal. Then to get the meal after waiting so long and literally, it was 2 bites of meat and one spoon of potato. I was pretty upset at this point. This did not even look like a busy night to me. There were many empty tables and maybe 3 big tables and 1 outside table. We were sitting by the fireplace but there was no fire. We mentioned on 2 occasions that we were cold (staff kept going in and outside to patio). The waitress was very friendly and said she turned the heat up. It would have been nice to have the fire for heat and ambiance. It was a cold, stiff, and hungry place. No warmth or atmosphere. I will never return but if you do go I really stress to order from each section of the menu to build your meal....the bread, the starter, then salad, then grain, then main corse. I wish someone had told me this prior to going and I would have been more satisfied and full although it would have tripled our bill. read more

The atmosphere is nice and the staff was very friendly. Unfortunately the kitchen didn't get much right, hard to understand when you only have 11 items on the menu. France is my favorite country to visit and this place does not do the French cuisine justice. The popover bread was served still cold (frozen in the middle) and my coulotte steak was just a chunk of fat and the sea bass was over salted. Not impressed. The the menu is limited but that's okay. Small plates with mediocre flavor and expensive!!!! The beef cheek brisket was not good, too gamey. The response to my complaint was that it is beef cheek, like what did I expect? Hey, I have eaten capuzzelle (lamb's head on the half skull) as a kid, the cheek is the best part! Anyway, under trained waiter (not his fault), slooow service, ridiculously small portions, and lack of management addressing the the funky beef cheek, 50% comp for something I did not eat and actually spit out. The food was excellent. Nice presentation, cooked perfectly. We had Popovers for an appetizer, great. Then Crab, Foie Gras, Crudites, all very good. Pozole, excellent. Beef Cheek 'brisket' very good. and Seared Prime Rib, very small portion, tasty, but had a tough bite or two. Also, the "Old Fashioneds" were very good! You can look up their menu online. The sauces with the entrees were very good. I am not knowledgeable about 'french' style cooking, but their adaptations to 'local' tastes are excellent. Service, very good . Knowledgeable, but the masks and noise made them difficult to understand. The venue has brick walls, high ceiling Rafters, 12 ft. or more, the kitchen is open to the serving area, and all this makes for a very noisy environment. We could hear all that was said at the next table. Also, for a 'fine dining' establishment I would expect table cloths, and wait staff to be in some semblance of a uniform. Perhaps virus restrictions forbid cloths. They also have a very nice 'patio' on the East side of the venue which would make a nice dining area on a summer evening. and a small building adjacent which would be good for a party dining experience. We live in Dallas and are accustomed to fine and expensive dining. Nicolett was chosen by our granddaughter for her TTU graduation dinner for ten guests, based upon a TTU professor recommendation. I'd say no one was satisfied with the portions / pricing. The food was OK, but we left hungry. Too pricey to order all four courses. We were required to put up a $100.00 deposit to hold the reservation and order for everyone a day in advance! NEVER EVER heard of such. They may have a justification, but we will choose elsewhere in the future. We ate on a plastic table with no tablecloth, unpressed napkins and on a gravel courtyard. For pricey food, we expect more. Wine selections were limited to one per class; i.e. one chardonnay, one cabernet, etc. read more

On Wednesday night, 9/1/2021: A very nice experience. It is interesting to find the entrance, no garish sign at the end of west Broadway, but Uber drivers can find it. Started with Brioche rolls in a small black skillet, nice, but with "blue cheese" butter, very good. Cocktails: A generous Glenlivet with not too much ice, and the house "garden gimlet", very nice. (The Glenlivet was served in a nice, heavy crystal tumbler, befitting the drink.) There were expensive wines by the bottle, and some very nice names, but good, reasonably priced, wines by the glass. Pinot Noir, Hanzell Vineyards Sonoma, nice and heavy and dense, and Anjou-Louvre- French Loirre Valley (Pinot Franc) were very nice. Start with a Kale salads with pinon and "white soy", never heard of it, but very good. Then, they make this Pozole! Not heaps of hominy, some chicken, a nice home done broth, and lots of lemon. And not out of some pot that had been on since noontime. There is just the right spice. And there's radishes. So good. As a main entree, split between two, the "Bravette of beef" which is a moderate slice of beef filet or some cut, done sous verdre, and just right... This is not a lot of food, but very tasty and satisfying. For dessert, the "Chocolate Elixir", a melted dark chocolate with some kind of nice cream sauce with a dessert wine was just wonderful. (Not your usual port!) This is not a cheap dinner, but very nice and slow and enjoyable time with very good service. (The bartender may very well bring your drink to your table!) read more

Classy, cozy and elegant atmosphere with a concept of dining that expects you will enjoy your food over hours and not just come to scarf it down. Unique flavors and combinations in every course. Waiter was knowledgeable and answered every one of our many questions in great detail. Other staff was very conscientious about helping us find the most comfortable table and helping us move to a different table after we had already been seated and a rowdier group sat down at the table next to us. We ended up at a table along the brick wall and felt like we were the only ones there. This is a place you can come and actually have a private intimate conversation and can hear your date, but yet there is life around you to remind you you're out on the town. This is a place to come if you enjoy food as a pleasurable experience and appreciate the intricacies of how each item is crafted. I wish there was less than one star available! We went there last night & believe me it will be the last time! I chose to go there because it was my birthday & we had not been there so we invited our best friends to go with us to celebrate my big day. Cheese! What a let down-first of all, there was no air conditioning, I'm usually cold in restaurants but this place was so warm I was even uncomfortable. Then came the menu! $10 for bread? You've got to be kidding! So we ordered some & it's a good thing we did or we would have starved to death! Our waiter, which by the way, was the only one in the place, told us that the chef was from Europe & he was doing things differently! Okay--so the menu is very strange for us West Texas folks with courses of things to choose from. So we're into it, we each choose something from each course & then we wait & wait & wait! 30 minutes till the first course, then we wait some more, 1 1/2 hours till the next course was served, then we wait some more, 1 hour till the main course was served. I'm not kidding! 3 hours & $350 later we are out of there never to return! And I might add the food is almost inedible!! read more
