We came to the Fullerton area just to try this place because it had good reviews and it had caught my boyfriend's attention each time he went to Hapa cupcakes across the street. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. They have a few tables inside and a seating area in the back, as well. The closest parking lot is right behind the coffeeshop, but there is another one across the street from the coffeeshop. The barista was very talkative and had a good attitude, so that left a good impression on us. We ordered the iced banana bread latte and iced pumpkin pie latte, as they are seasonal. Both a bit too sweet for my liking, but otherwise delicious. I also really liked the interior design of this coffeeshop. The curtains and pieces of furniture don't all match, but I think it adds a sense of uniqueness. We found a table by the window and enjoyed the quaint and calm nature of this coffeeshop. It's a great place to visit if you want to study, meet with a friend, or are out on a date night. It's great even just to try something new for a change. Look, I may not consider myself a connoisseur of cafes, but having spent years in and out of local small eclectic cafes in Washington I've hunted for one that matches a similar feeling in California. You need just the right vibes to dub a place your "local haunt." All this build up is to say that I walked into night owl because "this place has art outside and nice font on their sign so I trust their coffee," and this assessment was correct. Stepping into the Night Owl feels immediately familiar and cozy from the art on the walls to the mismatched furniture you just want to relax there for hours. Truly the shining star of the past was the Elvis Presley latte and the cheesecake from a local baker. But now, sadly the baker retired and the cheesecake is no more but the latte lives on! I gotta give them a round of applause because the new bakery they have for their pastries is still delicious. Stopped in to Night Owl for a mid day pick me up and opted for the caramel apple chai. While the drink was delicious, it did not taste of chai at all and tasted more like a glorified apple juice. For almost $9 for the smaller size, I wouldn't recommend that drink at all for the price. Service, however, was very friendly and interior is cozy. The first time I came, the barista made me something off menu from his own creations and it was delish. The final price was $16.03, meaning that my large 12 oz. coffee cost at least $9. That is the most I've ever paid for a coffee and wouldn't have ordered it. read more

My husband and I stopped in here on an unplanned date night at like 9:50pm on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was pretty nice, a majority of the tables seemed filled with people quietly focused on reading/studying (which I thought was peculiar for a Saturday night, but hey, you do what you gotta do). I ordered a banana bread latte and it was a perfect dessert coffee -- the banana and hazelnut flavors complimented each other really well and it legit tasted like creamy, caffeinated banana bread. The espresso they used had a pleasant flavor and wasn't overly bitter or burnt tasting. My husband got a chai-chai, but is pretty sure they misheard him because he was pretty sure he just got a straight up chai. It was a really good one though. The service was quick and I appreciated how patient the baristas were, especially considering my indecisiveness at the counter as it was my first time there. Let me start by saying the coffeeshop itself is AMAZING. The Night Owl has this hipster vibe and reminds me of those old school artsy coffee houses that I used to see featured in my favorite childhood sitcoms. The Night Owl is aldo pretty spacious do makes for a great study spot, and I was told that some evenings they're also a live music venue that features different genre and spoken word performances and artists. The coffee house definitely had that relaxed vibe that makes it a great place to kick back at. Service was also superb. Sadly, the actual coffee itself just wasn't as amazing as everything else. I've come twice and tried three different lattes now, and I didn't love any of them. The pancake latte was decent but really didn't have as much maple flavor as I was hoping for. The windmill latte tasted strongly of artificial sweetener/ almond flavoring, and the white chocolate lavender latte was also similarly disappointing. I didn't realize until my second visit when I saw their flavor syrup stockpile behind the counter that they just use Torani syrups for everything. I make lattes at home and I'm not a fan of Torani because it tastes very artificial compared to other gourmet syrups I've tried like Monin, so I guess that explains why I didn't care for any of the lattes I tried. No wifi and very limited outlets. However, it is a good place to study for a few hours during the day I think. You can get free parking for 3 hours. It gets pretty dark and noisy at night so I wouldn't recommend coming to study after that. Came across this place by strolling downtown Fullerton with some friends. We stopped to grab a cup of Joe and couple of desserts. I don't know if the day (friday nite) or time ( 9pm) it was just not a good nite or what? but the dessert choices were very slim (kind of disappointing) a coffeehouse/shop should always have plenty of choices of dessert/pastry. Here is my recommendation, set up a limited time Wi-Fi and have you need to purchase stuff every 2 hours or the Wi-Fi drops. It is a win win. THE NIGHT OWL is ideally located here on Harbor Blvd near the high school, Fullerton College and CSUF down the street some more. Each chair has a table in front of it, welcoming you to sit, study, read and/or hang out with your friends (or family, if you're into that sort of thing LOL. JK of course!) They even don't mind if you stay a while. Just make sure you support your local business and actually get up and order something a few hours or so. Try their ICED LATTE. It is so strong, it will definitely keep your mind awake for that term paper you're trying to crank out last minute. I also noticed that there's a small stage/podium for a musician towards the back corner. Nice! I can't wait to come back on a weekend night to come check out who they invited here. read more

Since I often work from cafes, I typically judge a coffee shop by both their drinks and the overall vibe - lucky for me, the Night Owl receives a 5/5 in both categories. The menu is endless with quirky latte flavors such as Nutella, honey, and hazelnut. They also serve a variety of teas that can be brewed in five minutes. I'm personally a fan of the tropical tea, which is absolutely perfect with a touch of sweetener. Inside there is a variety of comfy seating options, rustic decor, local artwork, and often live music playing. There is plenty of wall outlets, and free WiFi throughout the shop. This coffee spot also has a decent patio if you're looking to sit a larger study group or just get some fresh air. Unlike most of Downtown Fullerton, the Night Owl has plenty of free parking, with both a large lot in the back and a nearby parking structure. The restroom is available for customers to use, but you need a code. I liked that people drew their own versions of an owl and they posted them on the back wall. I ordered a hot 12oz matcha latte with oat milk and an extra scoop of matcha. I like my teas bitter and wasn't sure if the oat milk was sweet or the barista put sweetener in it. I love that this homely corner cafe is open so late, and the workers are chill so they don't mind how late the customers stay. Place is small and cozy, but don't let that deter you from going in because there is outside seating in the back. Parking is limited in the back, but there is plenty of parking across the street and there is a nearby parking structure as well. Staff was very friendly and offered great recommendations. Dog friendly as well. There was a band playing in the corner of the shop, music wasn't too loud so conversations can still take place.
