My daughter and I stopped in yesterday because she had raved about the banana bread latte. We decided to have pastries too. We each had the banana bread latte and shared 2 pastries. At the first sip, let me tell you I was amazed lol. I bake banana bread often and I'm not sure how they make it taste EXACTLY like it. There is really nothing like this gem of a place. Peaceful during the day, music outdoors on the patio most every night. Well-made coffee drinks, teas, and pastries. Such a friendly community of staff, musicians, and patrons. Tuesday night open mic, Thursday jazz, Friday blues, every other night a delightful surprise! You'll find me there; they can't get rid of me. So grateful am I to live nearby. Also, they have a limited selection of beer, seltzers, and wine. Came here after a coworker recommended their good drinks and fun environment. It's located in down town Fullerton. When I entered I was welcomed by the owner who was quick to help and offer some recommendations. I told him it was my first time, and when it came time to pay he charged me less than it should've been. So unexpected and kind. Thank you! I ordered the iced pancake latte with soy milk, and a chocolate almond bear claw. The espresso is strong and the pastries are fresh from a local bakery. I am obsessed with this place. Not only do they have non-dairy options for their drinks and vegan options for their pastries, they also have an amazing vibe here. The staff is always friendly when we came by. We ended up coming on a Saturday and found out they had an artist that was performing outside in the back. There is plenty of seating inside, out front, and out back. I ordered the Chai Chai with oat milk the first time I visited. Twas delicious. The second time I wanted to try something new so I ordered the Banana Bread Latte with oat. Twas equally delicious, literally tasted like banana bread. Thursday night Jazz was a HIT!! Park at the nearby structure, and let the live music drifting through the night lead you to the cozy spot. I appreciated the outdoor setup, fresh air and easy to spot/hear the scheduled bands playing outside The Night Owl. There are tables and chairs for the crowds trickling in and out, allowing people to transition from standing to sitting closeup. In the center there's a fire to warm you up, if you're lucky get a seat up close. It's nice to see people of all ages come by to listen to live jazz, whether alone, paired up, or in a group it was a good time all around! Behind the sectioned area, there were even locals who brought their own lawn chairs to sit afar and enjoy. Check their Instagram for live updates, when I went Jazz Night went on from 7:30 - 10:00 pm. The cafe itself is small and intimate, with lots of owl decorations and art in each nook. My friend and I tried the Banana Bread latte (decaf), it was piping hot & comforting throughout the night. Although we did find it tasting syrupy towards the end as most of it had settled on the bottom. As my first time, I had no expectations, and it ended up being a really relaxing night filled with good music under a calm winter night. I recommend having dinner in the area and walking over after to grab a hot beverage or pastry while you listen to the music. read more

I'm not a coffee drinker so can't comment on those type drinks, I come here to grab a beer and listen to music and to absorb the great outdoor patio music vibe. I like Tuesday Open Mic nights, it's an eclectic mix of performers and a wide range of talent and always entertaining. I like blues so I came on Friday Blues Night to check out the blues band and I got some so-so blues but most of the songs weren't blues. Creedence Clearwater, the non-blues hits? Along with songs from other groups that are def not blues. As a veteran bar band guitarist who has played all over the state and country for 40 years I can listen to almost any genre music so my night wasn't entirely lost, but the lead guitarist sort of spoiled every song because that guy wanted to be HEARD. Sounded like amp on 10, guitar volume on 10, didn't back off much for the vocals or when the other guitarist or harp played....ZERO dynamics, stomped over everybody and it was painful to listen to. I called the coffee shop to ask if any other blues band plays Friday night blues and was informed that the owner plays drums in this band, so I guess the answer was no. And I guess this review won't see the light of day either haha. Service great, atmosphere in the patio great, would give more stars if it wasn't for the two-star band because of the one-star lead guitar player. My hubby and I live near DTF and love to frequent local coffee shops. I had looked at some pictures and reviews, there were some bakery items I wanted to try as well as their coffee. We walked in through the front and it was dark and dingy, much like the exterior of the shop. The girl at the counter was nice, but seemed very inexperienced and knew little about their menu. My hubby asked for a specific drink and she said she had never heard of it before but could "try" to make it. He decided to choose another item because she didn't sound confident at all. The pastry display left much to be desired. So sad looking and nothing like what I had seen on previous Yelp pictures. I ordered the white velvet latte and my husband ordered the windmill latte. Both were just okay. My drink tasted burnt and was pretty flavorless tbh. There are so many wonderful coffee shops in Fullerton, and I am very confused as to why this has such good ratings. Was in the area after leaving Medieval Times and was in the mood for a coffee. I was craving Phillz, but they were closed and The Night Owl came up as a recommended spot nearby. It was a weekend night and raining. We came in through the back where they do have some free parking if you're there for like 20 mins. We were grabbing to go so that worked out for us. They had a band playing which was pretty cool and the staff was very friendly. We placed our order and hung out until our drinks were ready. This place really does have owl decor everywhere, like EVERYWHERE lol. It was very adorable though and we enjoyed it. Both our drinks tasted great and it was nice to sip on in the rainy drive home. My friend and I wanted to enjoy an extra hour or so in each other's company after having dinner together, and most of the cafes within walking distance were already closed. A quick yelp search showed us The Night Owl, and we were enamored by the pictures and decided to stop by to see it for ourselves. The interior seemed like something out of a television show. Intimate without being cramped, a small space in a way that is charming rather than stuffy. A mishmash of furniture, and plenty of warm, low light. There was a small stage in the corner of the space that I heard is used for open mic music nights and poetry readings. My friend and I ended up sitting outside in the terraced patio area, and it was pretty spacious. I might've liked a little more light outside, and I wondered how the college students on their laptops around me weren't suffering from eye strain. Our drinks were pretty disappointing. We agreed that we would not have paid the price we had (on the pricier side for coffee, even despite being a small business) if we knew that the quality was going to be like this. My friend ordered a tea latte, which tasted mostly of watered down milk, with no prominent tea flavor. I ordered the Windmill latte, which tasted about the same -- watery and weak. I appreciate the fact that the Night Owl is open late, but would probably not come back for the drinks. Atmosphere is pretty cozy, though. read more

This place is a great and quaint place to meet with friends, try to get some work done or study, or just come here to watch some of the shows they put up once in awhile. They have so many specialty drinks that are fun and unique compared to most coffee spots. The workers here have always been helpful and friendly and they maintain the cleanliness of this spot pretty well. My personal favorite drink is the London fog. As if I am reliving college again. After brunch at Rialto across the street. We were feeling for tea and something sweet. There is so much nostalgia walking through the front door, but it was sad seeing the tables and chairs up. We were greeted right away and had small talk with the person at the counter. He was super friendly and helped us with our choices of tea. We got two honey-floral black teas with a brownie. He even warmed up the brownie for us. Second, I got two drinks, a small and large chai drink (a special chai drink they offered, so expecting it to cost a bit more, but no additional upgrades). The final price was $16.03, meaning that my large 12 oz. coffee cost at least $9. That is the most I've ever paid for a coffee and wouldn't have ordered it. read more

LOVE that they host open mic nights. i appreciate that this cafe consistently have music open mics and fun activities for the community to get together and share their art. their instagram @thenightowlfullerton is updated daily about their events, so definitely check it out. i parked outside on the street for free, i attached a photo of the parking signs. inside, the cafe was cozy, and the baristas were so welcoming and nice. brandon helped me out with my order and was super friendly! i got an iced lavender london fog (about $7) with soy milk. i liked the lavender flavor, and it wasn't too sweet. it tasted a tad too watery for me, but i imagine it would be better hot! there were quite a few people inside and outside studying. there is a bathroom for customers, just ask for the number code. overall, love this place mainly because it's a small business that hosts music and poetry open mics. i support them because of this! read more

I haven't had the opportunity to every try Night owl coffee in person until today. It has a big parking lot, and big signage easy to spot in the busy street off Harbor Blvd. Upon entering I was immediately greeted by Ana. She was friendly and super quick. I got a pumpkin spice coffee nice and hot! They have the coolest decor and great seating area. I will definitely return, and try other coffees. Check out this cool place to sip and chill. We came to the Fullerton area just to try this place because it had good reviews and it had caught my boyfriend's attention each time he went to Hapa cupcakes across the street. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. They have a few tables inside and a seating area in the back, as well. The closest parking lot is right behind the coffeeshop, but there is another one across the street from the coffeeshop. The barista was very talkative and had a good attitude, so that left a good impression on us. We ordered the iced banana bread latte and iced pumpkin pie latte, as they are seasonal. Both a bit too sweet for my liking, but otherwise delicious. I also really liked the interior design of this coffeeshop. The curtains and pieces of furniture don't all match, but I think it adds a sense of uniqueness. We found a table by the window and enjoyed the quaint and calm nature of this coffeeshop. It's a great place to visit if you want to study, meet with a friend, or are out on a date night. It's great even just to try something new for a change. My husband and I stopped in here on an unplanned date night at like 9:50pm on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was pretty nice, a majority of the tables seemed filled with people quietly focused on reading/studying (which I thought was peculiar for a Saturday night, but hey, you do what you gotta do). I ordered a banana bread latte and it was a perfect dessert coffee -- the banana and hazelnut flavors complimented each other really well and it legit tasted like creamy, caffeinated banana bread. The espresso they used had a pleasant flavor and wasn't overly bitter or burnt tasting. My husband got a chai-chai, but is pretty sure they misheard him because he was pretty sure he just got a straight up chai. It was a really good one though. The service was quick and I appreciated how patient the baristas were, especially considering my indecisiveness at the counter as it was my first time there. I definitely recommend it, though only if you're okay honoring the quiet, low-key environment. read more

Look, I may not consider myself a connoisseur of cafes, but having spent years in and out of local small eclectic cafes in Washington I've hunted for one that matches a similar feeling in California. You need just the right vibes to dub a place your "local haunt." All this build up is to say that I walked into night owl because "this place has art outside and nice font on their sign so I trust their coffee," and this assessment was correct. Stepping into the Night Owl feels immediately familiar and cozy from the art on the walls to the mismatched furniture you just want to relax there for hours. Truly the shining star of the past was the Elvis Presley latte and the cheesecake from a local baker. But now, sadly the baker retired and the cheesecake is no more but the latte lives on! I gotta give them a round of applause because the new bakery they have for their pastries is still delicious. The first time I came, the barista made me something off menu from his own creations and it was delish. Let me start by saying the coffeeshop itself is AMAZING. The Night Owl has this hipster vibe and reminds me of those old school artsy coffee houses that I used to see featured in my favorite childhood sitcoms. The Night Owl is aldo pretty spacious do makes for a great study spot, and I was told that some evenings they're also a live music venue that features different genre and spoken word performances and artists. The coffee house definitely had that relaxed vibe that makes it a great place to kick back at. Service was also superb. Sadly, the actual coffee itself just wasn't as amazing as everything else. I've come twice and tried three different lattes now, and I didn't love any of them. The pancake latte was decent but really didn't have as much maple flavor as I was hoping for. The windmill latte tasted strongly of artificial sweetener/ almond flavoring, and the white chocolate lavender latte was also similarly disappointing. I didn't realize until my second visit when I saw their flavor syrup stockpile behind the counter that they just use Torani syrups for everything. I make lattes at home and I'm not a fan of Torani because it tastes very artificial compared to other gourmet syrups I've tried like Monin, so I guess that explains why I didn't care for any of the lattes I tried.
