I'm only deducting one star because I want to write an honest review based on the visit I had. My daughter suggested this spot as a good place to do Sunday brunch. Upon arrival we were greeted and only had to wait a couple of min for a table. The vibe is very relaxed. I was looking forward to some breakfast food. We were not acknowledged for quite some time. I believe that a gentleman at an adjacent table alerted a server on our behalf because she came right over apologetically after speaking to him. Anyway, knowing that we had been waiting she took our drink orders and our food order right away. We both ordered breakfast food. My daughter ordered her favorite item on the menu, the All the Way Breakfast. She ordered hard fried eggs, bacon, biscuit & potatoes. Everything on her plate was cooked as it should be and satisfactory for her. I ordered the Pancake Breakfast - two eggs, scrambled, a choc chip pancake and bacon (I asked for extra extra crispy). When our food came out I was so ecstatic that my bacon was cooked as I asked for it... I thought to myself that I was going to leave a huge tip! I wanted to eat my eggs first while they were warm so by the time I got to my pancake I realized that it was plain - no choc chips. I was bummed and short of making a scene could not get our waitresses attention despite her checking on all the tables just around us. I ate the pancake anyway and when she finally did come back to the table I had a small piece of pancake still to eat so I was able to show her the mistake. She was apologetic and said I should have notified her earlier, that she would have had the kitchen make a new, correct pancake. I informed her that I was not able to get her attention, and again she apologized. Now, it's not her fault that the kitchen plated in incorrect item but it is her responsibility to make sure the correct items are delivered to the table. I still left a generous tip and look forward to returning next time I'm in town. read more

Wow!! Smoked Salmon Benedict was the most amazing I've had. I can't believe I've only just now came here. Definitely recommend!!

This is a neat place to eat. Inside seems full of history, the bar is nice to sit with the old pharmacy apothecary as the bar. The outside seating is nice in warmer weather to watch people going by. The food is delicious and the coffee is classic diner coffee. A must visit on the downtown mall. read more

We came here for breakfast and we're told the wait would be 15 minutes. 45 minutes later we were still waiting and multiple people who had gotten there after us had already been seated. When we went up to ask how much longer, they were very rude. We finally sat down and asked which of their things were gluten free and were met with the response "Sorry, but I don't think there is anything on our menu we can do gluten free." That is the first time in 15 years I have had a restaurant tell me they were completely unable to accommodate my allergy. Overall it was a very frustrating experience. read more

The place is horrible. We were the first made the order but the last served. Took an hour to get food. The Manager is a jerk, all bulshit excuses, didn't apologize at all! It was a busy morning I get it, but worst service I have ever experienced. Go ANYWHERE else. Some staffs are quite nice though. read more

We were missing a western omelet out out the pick up order and said they would replace it over the phone. When we got there 2 hour later they denied telling us such and refused to remake or refund it. Staff was VERY rude. We will not be buying here again. read more

We stopped by the nook for a very late breakfast (on a Sunday morning), and waited about 30 minutes for a patio table. The gentleman working the host stand was very kind, and our server (Tamara?) was so so sweet. We shared the tatter tots, chili cheese, and eggs dish kind of as an appetizer. My friend loved the crab Mac and cheese, and my roast beef hash was good! It was a great place to eat with our dog with us. He was gifted plenty of treats while we were there! read more

I stopped in here for breakfast and ordered the western omelette with a biscuit The food was good, what you would expect. The omelette had ham and cheese which were standard deli versions. The peppers and onions were fresh and cooked well, still crunchy. The extra star is for the service, very friendly and helpful. read more

Service was lovely. The food just sucked a bunch. Waffle was thin and just not right, the chicken was like a frozen Tyson chicken breast they just fried- not the thick brined crispy chicken you'd expect on the chicken and waffles. The mess hall wrap was bland, needed some seasoning added! The wrap too was hard and crispy. Not a soft flour tortilla as described. It was a cute restaurant with a patio as a choice to dine in. Food was yummy. The tater tots are SO good. I got the Beast Breakfast Sandwich and my boyfriend got the All American Omelette, licked our plates clean. Service was fast and enjoyable. On a positive note, the staff was kind and attentive, and we got our food in a timely manner. As for the food, I couldn't eat it. I haven't eaten an open-faced, roast beef sandwich in years and needless to say, I was really looking forward to it. The moment it hit the table I knew I should have ordered breakfast (can rarely go wrong with breakfast). The darkened gravy was thick and poured over every inch of the plate. That might sound appealing to you, but I wanted to taste bread, roast beef, and potatoes, but the gravy was too overpouring. Once I scraped off the thick gravy, the mashed potatoes appeared to be day old, and the roast beef had a lot of fat. The bread, well, by the time I made it past the thick gravy and roast beef, it was soggy and flattened to the plate. I was starving, but not enough to eat it. This was my biggest disappointment during my day in downtown Charlottesville. read more

Start to finish the worst experience I've had in a restaurant. Before I even entered the restaurant, the wait staff were rude and rushed; which is surprising to me given how few people were actually at the restaurant. The whole time I was there, I felt like they were just trying to get us out as soon as possible. When we asked if it was possible to customize an order, we were told a few options. It wasn't until after the bill came we discovered that "substitute" to them means "add a side order." That was why I asked BEFORE ordering. When asking for clarification after the fact, the wait staff were unconcerned, unapologetic, and came off as annoyed. The food was mediocre. I've had better (not to mention in a larger portion) corned beef hash from gas stations, whereas this stuff tasted like it was half heartedly heated in the 10-year old can it came in. A very cute local spot with a variety of all-day breakfast options, salads, and sandwiches. Located on the Downtown Mall very close to everything. We had a very friendly waitress and the environment overall was welcoming and pretty clean. The food was lovely; the bananas foster was delicious with a caramelized rum & brown sugar topping. My dad had a chef salad which was also very good. Overall a nice pretty affordable place and would recommend it to those in town. read more

Don't really know what's going on with one of our Favorite breakfast places. The last couple of times we have been here the food was ok. Just ok. Went here today and we saw the hottest and was seated outside we waited for 15 minutes and no one ever came out to even start a drink order. Other people paid and left. They were not busy. I can't say it was great. It was just good old fashioned diner breakfast. But the cinnamon sugar toast caught my attention and I must say that was a nice little treat to have afterwards. Never even got to order food because we couldn't even get seated. The hostess told us it was a 5 minute wait for a table inside. 20 minutes later, we still didn't get seated but we kept seeing people who came after us getting seated inside, so I went up to the hostess, and they never even put our name down. And there was really no excuse because there was nobody around us when we asked for a table for two inside. When I finally talked to someone and they seated us inside there were 5 empty tables, so not sure why we couldn't get seated right away. The only thing that I can think of is that I am not white. So if you are not white, maybe don't come here because they won't even bother putting down your name. read more

I know this place has been here forever, but the burgers just aren't tasty. Small 1/4 burgers like McDonald's doubled up, overcooked and dry. Asked for them medium rare.. was told they all come out well-done (how about just coming it less?) Friendly service. read more

We were in town for the weekend and looking for brunch before heading home. This place was great - solid food for reasonable prices and excellent service. I got the chicken and waffles which were delicious, and had proper fried chicken - not just chicken tenders, which we also ordered. We sat outdoors and felt very safe, and warm from the heaters. Servers even brought our dog some water. We were surprised by how few people there were downtown, and a lot of the shops/restaurants looked empty or closed down. I hope local restaurants like this one can survive COVID. read more

The restaurant is cute and I loved the old feel to it. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Our family went here for dinner. The food was okay. My son loved the burger and said it was one of the best he has had. Two of us got breakfast meals, and they were okay. My husband got the open faced roast beef sandwich. The staff are very friendly with the option to sit indoors or outside on the downtown historic mall. The food is some of the worst I've had. We were in a hurry and I didn't use Yelp to find a place like I normally do. Crab cake had an odd seasoning and sandwich mayo based toppings were unpleasant. We should have kept walking. read more

I can't even rate this restaurant as our reserved seat was ignored! I had planned a birthday brunch for my son on 4/32/23, I called several times to make a reservation only to be told they did not take reservations but to call prior to coming and they would have no problem seating us. We were a party of 9 and from out of town which I told them. I did as instructed and when we arrived we were told that they had no reserved seat and basically called me a liar about calling at all. I was speaking to the General Manager so where do you go from there. He could clearly tell I was upset and not knowing the area...where to go from that?? We walked down the mall and found a restaurant called "Rapture". The hostess was awesome, listened to my plight and found a lovely table for us. Food was delicious and service was awesome. Kudos to them for working with us and making our event memorable. As for the Nook, never again!!!!!! read more

Tip: NO LARGE PARTIES ON THE PATIO! Longtime fans of The Nook, we selected this lovely place to have the farewell family brunch for our out-of-town son and his girlfriend. I called the day before and left a message requesting a party of 9 on the patio - no reply. That morning, we were told that tables "were not allowed" to be pushed together, because "that's the way we do things". Sadly, this negatively impacted our last meal together. I wish the management would publicize this rule on the website and the outgoing message, and would return phone calls. Hopefully this policy is a holdover from long-ago COVID guidelines and will be discontinued soon. The servers and the food were wonderful as always. read more

I'm one of those old set in his ways guys. I don't like trying new places because I love my places I'm comfortable with. My wife and I were in town for her brother's wedding and we wanted breakfast. We were on our way somewhere else when we passed by this place. I just had a gut feeling that this was my kind of place. And was I right! We were greeted promptly by a friendly server that showed us to our table. The entire menu looked fantastic. I had the stuffed French toast and my wife had the chorizo breakfast bowl. It was delicious! I'm picky about my food spots and this place was like a little slice of heaven! The food was so good and fresh. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was inviting. I really can't say enough good things about this place. So if you're a grumpy old guy set in your ways like me, do yourself and your taste buds a huge favor and stop by the Nook. It's so good and you won't be disappointed! read more
