Stopped by the shack with my fam on the way out to shelter island. I liked the quick and friendly service and rustic feel. They offer a variety of food options, cocktails, beer, and wine. We ordered the calamari salad, clam chowder, fried fish sandwich, SLT wrap, and a gin cocktail. The two standout dishes were the SLT and fried fish Sammy. The shiitake mushrooms were crunchy and flavorful, and the sauce in the wrap was the perfect tangy accompaniment. The fried fish sandwich (cod today) was crispy and cooked to perfection. I didn't love the calamari, I felt that it was a little oily and I like my squid without the purple "skin". I wish the Sandwiches/wraps came with fries instead of just coleslaw, but that's just me. Overall, enjoyed the food and the atmosphere and will be back soon to try more stuff. read more

Such a random stop on a weekend trip out to the northfork-but WOW what an amazing food experience. The dishes are so unique and full of flavor. I am on a restricted diet and found plenty to eat. I've been coming out to the North Fork for years now, a lucky confluence of events has led to my mom and aunt moving out here full time, so when the city is on fire - to the North Fork I go. I came across the Shack on Yelp ... I mean where else would I go ... and being so close to Southold and in the mood for some seafood I was game. I've had literally two things here - fish tacos, and the fish sandwich - both blew my mind. I actually don't like seafood that much but for some reason I had a craving both times I went. I also ordered the pulled pork taco, which to be honest wasn't my favorite, the pork was dry and just didn't have a kick. But cod tacos were on point, moist and delicious, and whatever the batter they're using ... please never changed, clearly its awash in butter but I ate it with abandonment. Nice ambience, nothing too over the top, just a simple and clean lunch and dinner spot. I also got real intimate with a cupcake there ... it was amazing and I don't regret it. I am sure they have their growing pains here and there, but I'll definitely come back throughout the summer when I am out here. The only suggestion I have is to get a bigger 'We're open!' sign ... it comes up on you so quickly I almost missed it. read more

I wanted very badly to love this place based on the article I read in Newsday. It was good - but not great. We ordered the pulled lamb on a pita, shallot dusted fries, ceviche and a pistachio cupcake. The best of the bunch were the fries - perfectly fries and dusted with salty shallot flavor, served with a great aioli. Highly recommend. The ceviche (fluke) was also pretty flavorful. Good acid, and I loved the taro root chips. Only downside was the quantity for the price - wish there was more. The pistachio cupcake was solid. Frosting was delicious. The cake was a bit dense and the crumb a bit grainy. Unfortunately, the pulled lamb on pita disappointed. It could have been great but lacked flavor; it tasted more Italian than greek despite the addition of pickled vegetables and yogurt. The pulled lamb was overlooked and bland. :( So this visit was just a 3 star. If the lamb was better it would have gotten four -- will try again next time. read more

Overall a good experience. Seems like they are still in the awkward startup phase. Our entrees came out a lot earlier than the appetizers. No servers and only one register make it slow to order food as people gaze at the menu. Seating is shared and not enough for the rush the day we were here. Not at all what I expected, not sure if it was because I came in late day on a Sunday and going into Winter time or this place is just trying to rip people off. My burger i ordered well done and was under cooked on the inside, no flavor, a roll so cheap that the burger just kinda went into this big mush ball due lack of it being close to a burger shape and more like a few lumps of meat thrown sloppily together. Could only get a couple bites in before I decided it was not edible and i am usually not to picky but could not stomach this. The bbq chicken wrap did not really taste like bbq flavor and just seemed very cheaply made like something you could get a grocery store for way cheaper, the meat looked weird and the wrap was small ,one bite and I was done with it. The shredded lamb look dry and flavorless, so I stayed clear of it. Avoid this place and save your money! have no idea why this was such a rave of an eatery, clearly its serving some poorly made pre prepared food. read more

In our party of 4 we had a quinoa bowl, buttermilk chicken sandwich, Nashville hot sandwich, pulled pork and steak tacos, and vegetable spring rolls. The food was very good. Decent potions for the price, everything was fresh and tasty. There is seating inside and outside under coverings. They had a selection of beers and hard seltzer in cans as well as a couple beers on tap. If there were one con it would be the Nashville hot could have been more spicy, however it was very flavorful. I would recommend this spot for a quick tasty lunch or quick takeout. read more

This is a fun place to stop for lunch. We came here on a beautiful day and sat outside on the picnic tables. They have a cool menu and you order at the counter. My wife and I decided to stop here after spending some time at our favorite winery. The food was excellent and the service was quicker than expected. We met the owner Sammy who was friendly and unpretentious. We both had the shredded lamb pita and a side each. The food was reasonably priced and it was nice that they stay open later than most restaurants in the area. We will definitely be back to try the steak sandwich. Ordered hamburger medium rare on Saturday night may 19th. Came out burnt black on outside. The pickles are their own but very very sour- overpowering the rest of the sandwich. The shop itself is beautifully decorated with friendly beach-y vibes, and the staff is very friendly. Tried the local fish sandwich, quinoa salad, and zucchini tempura. Everything was delicious! The fish was perfectly cooked and came with a very tasty aioli. The zucchini was crisp and tender, and the salad was perfect with wonderful local ingredients. OMG I am obsessed with their SLT (Shitaki Mushroom, Lettuce and Tomato) Wrap!!! The mushroom is toasted perfectly to mimic real bacon and along with the avocado and the wonderful Aioli sauce it is now my favorite dish on the North Fork. It came with a really nice side of coleslaw which went perfectly with the wrap. My husband had his usual burger which never fails to disappoint. This place is truly a gem on the Northfork and I highly recommend everyone try it at least once. The tables, inside are communal and there is seating outside as well. Everything is clean and the staff are very friendly. I really appreciate the casual nature of the place. This place was quiet on a rainy Saturday night. Great place to go after playing wino for the day. The fish tacos and the pulled pork tacos are the reason why you should go here. We had the soft shell tacos that were full of flavor. The Mexican corn was served on the cob and was very tasty. The zucchini tempura was very good and not at all greasy; however, the dipping sauce was weak and bland. A horseradish sauce would be far better. The vegetable spring roll was also very good with a terrific chili dipping sauce. Skip the clam chowder because I'm sure you had better and it's weak in flavor. Really cute place on the north road with a nautical theme and long cafeteria-style tables that look like they were made from boats. Menu ranges from salads and soups to fish sandwiches and burgers. This is one of my favorite quick bites on the North Fork. I'm a huge fan of the chicken sandwich and the pulled lamb, but definitely always check the specials! They have a great local drink menu for having a glass of wine or a beer while I wait for my to-go order. Do not miss the shallot-dusted fries! I crave them constantly, and they give you plenty to share. My only gripe is that my food hardly ever makes it home without getting soggy, but I can't think of what they personally could change about that beyond maybe different to-go packaging.
