Cozy and cute Inn in the quiet and sleepy town of Norwich which is just around the bend from the border to New Hampshire. The staff here is top notch and all super friendly. They get a lot of guests here that are attending the King Arthur's baking school about 1 mile away. They offer refrigeration services for the dozens of breads you will bake! We stayed in the main building where the restaurant and bar are located. It's all very cozy and seemed to support many local community gatherings during our 1 week stay. The rooms however are smaller with an old radiator which didn't do a great job of giving you much temperature control. The beds are comfortable but the bathroom and shower is on the smaller side. Also the floor boards are creaky so we could hear our upstairs neighbors moving around. For EV drivers - they offer slow onsite chargers for a fee. read more

This inn has all of the potential to be one of those quintessential vintage yet comfortable New England joints. While a little worn around the edges, overall it succeeds. It has what I would call "charming wear and tear" - part of the vintage character of a New England inn. There is no attempt to retain the charm of yesteryear while providing the qualities of the modern era, this is pure charm of yesteryear. With multiple sitting areas, guest rooms in different shapes and styles, as well as attic rooms with interesting roof lines and floor plans, it works. I will say that the mattress in our suite was too soft for us - we are used to a firm mattress - so if you have a sensitive spine you might want to ask if they have a room with a firmer mattress. The breakfast offered eggs, sausage and bacon, muffins, bagels etc. Simple and good enough. Guest reception pretty much terminates around 8 PM so if your arrival is anything later than that you reach out in advance for directions to access the property. Overall a typical New England style Inn in a typical New England town that is a cozy respite for a weary traveler. I would say my most accurate rating would be 3 1/2 stars. read more

This is a comfortable place to stay. It is an older building with its creeky floors, old doors, bathrooms, and old style beds, but it's clean and comfortable with a ton of charm. The main floor has some picturesk rooms with comfortable areas for sitting, a nice restaurant and bar area as well. It is somewhat close to many popular areas, like Harvard and King Arthur Flour Co. It is not set up to be handicapped accessable due to the age of the building and does not lend itself easily to any type modification of the wanted to. Took my wife here tonight for a birthday dinner. Menu was just OK with only 4 or 5 entrees. Salmon was good according to my wife, but I asked for a medium well done Filet Mignon with just a little pink, and got a very rare piece that has to be sent back. Sides were good. No bread offered, tables not covered, chairs are metal, dining was not much above a diner in style. Coffee at desert time was tepid and very watery. Cappuccino mousse dessert (pie) needed a chaser. Paying the bill difficult as WIFI is locked down and passwords are apparently only for hotel guest and not for us locals. We will look for different dining given the price we had to pay. Waiter was efficient, while the maitre'de was the pleasant personable host that one wants also in their server. read more

Great option while visiting Dartmouth. Although the inn is technically in Vermont, it is tight across the river from NH. The Inn consists of the original bulging and two newer additions. We shared in one of the additions. Even though it was new, the room still had that "inn" type of decor. We were very comfortable there for several nights. Continental breakfast is available for $5/po. There is restaurant on site that was only open on weekends when when we were there. We did fine there but Jaspers Ale House does merit a separate review. I took a baking class and decided to spend the night, which was a mistake. I chose the Norwich Inn because it was close to King Arthur flour and looked quaint online. In person, it looks worn and is located next to a Citgo. My room was in the Main house and it was ok. Gave haunted house vibes. I ate at the Alehouse. I sat at the bar since I was traveling solo. The bartender has the personality of a wet noodle. A bunch of townies showed up and I felt awkward sitting there. I ordered the fish and chips. it was huge piece of fried oily fish on top of a bed of fries. It was gross. I sat on the toilet the remainder of the evening. Do yourself a favor and stay a mile away in beautiful Hanover, NH. I won't be back. A waste of money. read more

What a lovely place! The staff are as friendly and helpful as they could be, the room was spotless and charming, and our overall experience (three nights around the eclipse 2024) was great. Counting the Sunday Brunch we attended this past week, this is the second time we've been here and we have not been disappointed. I wish I could rate the lodging here as I understand their rooms are high quality, so my rating is only for the superb brunch they have here every Sunday. On each occasion, the brunch has been superb. We've been here for two special occasions with my nephew and his girlfriend as they live some distance away and this is about the halfway point. They waitstaff has been eager to serve, the food has been outstanding and the mimosas strong and plentiful. I had their breakfast Napoleon, a sumptuous concoction of ham. roasted mushrooms, spinach, cheddar and chives and topped with two sunny side eggs. Yum. Ultra Yum. It is a vigorous plate so if you're worried about protein intake, watch out.... Absolutely outstanding. Their coffee is also superb - double espressos and a cappuccino later I had energy for the next 12 hours... We were indeed pleased with both times here. Now we have to come for dinner. read more

I had a really nice stay at The Norwich Inn. I was attending a super-fun event across the river at Dartmouth College (my happy place) so my spirits were naturally favorable, and this hotel's location was especially convenient. It was far enough for some space, and plenty close for prime accessibility. While fairly basic, my room was comfortable and clean, and every interaction with the hotel staff was super positive. The food was the worst meal I have ever paid for in my life. The server must have know how bad their food is, she never checked in with us or even asked how it was when she cleared our plates. Our first visit here - super conveniently located close to King Arthur's, where we were taking baking classes. We stayed in what looks like a new addition just across from the main building. Our room was spacious, beds comfy, lots of pillow choices, a helpful ceiling fan, good temperature regulation for hot sleepers, & a large, upgraded shower. We also had a nice little room fridge & a gas fireplace! Check in was a breeze and all front desk staff were so helpful & thoughtful & went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. The Inn is quaint and relaxing with an historic atmosphere. The staff were all very friendly. The food was very good. Very dog friendly. The one issue that made it less enjoyable was that every day during our 3-day visit, there was some sort of function that made most of the charming common areas unavailable. This was true several times during the day and most evenings. So be aware that while everything is quite lovely, as a guest, you may not be able to enjoy the most beautiful spots in the Inn much of your visit. They need to confine their events to the basement wine room or just one of the ground floor rooms to ensure guests have equal access. read more

Picture this: A 6 hour bus-ride. Frozen nose, stiff back. As you exit the bus, the snow begins to fall in earnest. Huge, heavy flakes. The Christmas tree in the center of town lights up. The silhouettes of old trees become lacy in the lamplight. Your friends pick you up - cold ears, not enough layers, is it really 10 degrees here??? - and bring you to the Norwich Inn. Coat hangers are heavy with down jackets, hats & scarves. The cozy pub smells like wood and spices. They brew their own beer, and let you sample the selection. Mmmm, toasted oat beer. The wait is minimal, and you get to play Trivial Pursuit while drinking. The snow piles up outside the window, but who cares!! You're drinking beer and know the capital of Egypt. They may not have mac 'n cheese (so sad!), but they do have pub fare and they do it well. The cheddar burgers - grass fed beef, sharp white Vermont cheddar - are delectable, and they even offer high end dinner options, like pumpkin squash risotto (it's amazing). My dearest friend since childhood and I stayed here as we were taking a baking class at King Arthur. We both have March birthdays so try celebrating in some way together throughout the ... em past 20 years. Yea, that's it I said 20 years, hahaha. It's a quaint New England Inn. However, it also has two outbuildings and we were put in one of those ... must be where the riff raff goes (just kidding). The room we had was great. It had two queen size beds. A secretary style desk. Chairs and ottomans. Good size tv. Most importantly a fireplace to warm my frozen butt. It was sooo cold! Bathroom had a towel heater. I was a bit weirded out by the shower not having a full door. However everything was clean. It's a hop, skip and a jump to the main building. Which has the pub and restaurant. They suggest reservations for the restaurant. We were unaware and not told at checkin so fearful we might starve they took pity on Us and said they would call our room when a table opened up. In half an hour we were able to be seated. The menu is limited but decent. I snapped a copy. I got the spinach salad which was heaped high and delicious. Also got a chicken stew that was more of a soup then a stew. It needed seasoning. Friend had the salmon Wellington which she said was very enjoyable. The waitress was pleasant. The inn staff were very friendly at check in and check out. We were even introduced to others who were taking classes at KIng Arthur. King Arthur is a short drive but a car is recommended. There is not much to do in the immediate area. Plenty within a quick drive. read more

If this place was in New York or Los Angeles, and I'd gone once or twice, I might give it 4 stars. BUT, I've been quite a few times and they're always incredibly nice and the food's always great. I hadn't been in quite some time (ie: before I even started reviewing on yelp!), and when I walked in was shocked to see the gorgeous renovations. So the place when from looking a little stuffy and dated, to modern, warm and inviting. Really lovely. Plus the staff is great, the food's consistent, they handle food allergies really well, and they handle my ancient parents well too. So that gets kudos from me. read more

This is the 2nd time I have stayed here. My dad and I came to stay at the Norwich Inn as we were going to a Dartmouth football game. We stayed in the Main Inn building. Our room was very comfy and cozy (we had a room w/ two twin beds). The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They had a special where if you forgo having housekeeping on your room and you reuse your towels (you are always welcome to come to the desk and get more towels if you need them) you get a $10 dining credit. We were only staying for 2 nights so we did that. We ate at the restaurant and our meals were very good. The living room is a great place to sit and enjoy a drink and read or just hang out. The inn is very convenient to the Dartmouth campus. I would recommend staying here if you are planning to be in the area. It is certainly less costly than the hotels in downtown Hanover. read more

We came back to Norwich Inn 7 years later! Stayed for 1 night over President's Day weekend for a little getaway from Boston. The Inn itself is very quaint, typical of this area but well appointed with modern necessities. Had a room in the Ivy Lodge which is towards the back of the property. We had a room on the 1st floor which was quite large, especially the bathroom. The gas fireplace was very nice as well. Had a great night's sleep in the large King bed. We ate at the main dining room for brunch the next day. I really liked my beef hash and their home fries are amazing - soft on the inside and perfectly crunchy on the outside. The only place the star deduction came was with my husband's omelette. It's pretty normal to customize an omelette but they weren't able to accommodate his request except for adding bacon to it. Supposedly they didn't have any mushrooms or peppers on hand? Oh well... read more

This review is mostly about the restaurant, but the inn seems great too. Food is well-presented, reasonably priced, fresh and locally sourced when possible. You can eat in the beautiful dining room, alehouse, or outside if weather is nice. Service is good too-Erica was outstanding. We were all happy with our food: mussels, veggie burger, regular burger, and soft pretzels. The chips that come with sammies are arguably better than the fries though the fries are tasty too. Yum! I somehow made it to my senior year of college across the river, and hadn't been to Norwich Inn. I came here tonight with my family, and while I appreciated the ambiance, one of the dishes came out inedible and had to be sent back and the service left a tad to be desired. SETTING: Norwich Inn is in the heart of downtown Norwich, just across the Connecticut River from New Hampshire. The town and Inn could be described with similar adjectives: quaint, charming, the kind of place grandmothers would enjoy. In the dining room of the Inn, there was enough energy and noise to make it seem not too sleepy, but strays not an inch from a traditional New England feel. SERVICE: We had to wait quite a while for our server to greet us and take our drink orders. Long enough, that we were ready to order our apps and mains as well. We noticed some other tables with bread baskets, so we asked for one as well (rather than it just being brought out to us). When one of our plates had to be sent back due to it being thoroughly charred, my mother asked for some suggestions on what would be quick to prepare. It still took a while for that second entree to be brought out (you'd think they would push it to the front of the queue and get it out really quick...). The waiter did end up comping the two beers for the trouble. FOOD: This is where it gets interesting. To start, we ordered the Strawberry & Fennel salad. The menu says "tossed in a strawberry & balsamic vinaigrette," however the dressing wasn't so much tossed as it was drizzled, and it was rather thick for a vinaigrette. For my main I ordered the veggie burger, which was good but unmemorable--and almost certainly came frozen by its perfect circular shape. The sweet potato fries were pretty good though. My dad got the swordfish, which he seemed satisfied with. The real blunder came with the pork ribs my mom ordered. When they came out they were totally blackened; probably half of the meat had been replaced with carcinogens. We showed it to the waiter, who took it back immediately. My mom asked if there was another cut available that wasn't so burnt, but the waiter came back to report that the whole batch was like that--they had been serving charred pork ribs to every guest that ordered them all night! More beer news that drips down the side of the glass. What can I say? A nice, big English pint glass (20ounces) so maybe you don't mind paying $6 plus for a pint of locally brewed beer. Well, first, let me remind everyone: be it 16 or 20 ounces in the pint, in order to get that amount in the defined pint glass, the beer needs to reach the very top of the glass. If it does not, you do not get the 16 or 20. So, now, the bartender at the Inn wants to be professional and insists on putting an inch of head on top of each beer. Even after I explained it all to him, he continued to pour this way. I left after the second poor pour! Here is an accurate way to know what you are getting in an English pint glass. I know that a regular pint glass without a fat bottom will just barely hold 16 ounces. I filled up the 16 ounce glass with water and poured it into a real "Norwich Inn" 20 ounce glass. The top of the water reached a point 3/4 of an inch below the lip of the glass. Like I said, the pro gave me an inch of head so I actually got less than a US pint! Poor, poor pint. It would be okay if I were prorated the pour. Let's say, with taxes, my pint at the Inn was $6.40. That's 32 cents an ounce. You want to give me 16 ounces? Then let me pay $5.12. Isn't that fair. Otherwise, look at it the other way. $6.40 for 16 ounces? That becomes 40 cents per ounce. Poor, poor pour. Poor, poor customer, getting poorer by the ounce! Every pint that is shorted allows the establishment to pour more "pints". More profit. read more

**This review is only for their brunch, not the inn itself I got dragged into this rustic inn as a third wheel for a failing relationship. Anyways, I had to have brunch with this couple and because they were staying in the Norwich Inn, we ended up dining here. I think we just made the cut off for breakfast which was nice. I ordered the French Toast ($7.50) while the two others I was with had traditional eggs benedict and huevos rancheros. The woman serving us was really nice and food came out pretty quickly. It was fine... but nothing special and nothing amazing tbh. It was just typical plain french toast ... which I thought was over priced but then again it's the Upper Valley so what else would I expect? Food was okay, nothing special. All in all, a very average brunch experience. If I lived here I wouldn't mind eating the food but I certainly wouldn't be raving about it as a selling point for the inn. This place was interesting. I think it was founded in the 1780's sometime, and there are black-and-white pictures of severe-looking men all along the walls. The rocking chairs on the front porch definitely add to the Old Boy's Club feel. All I needed was a cigar and maybe a Hugh Hefner bathrobe. I came with a big group and we got to eat in the library, a major boon because old books draw me like moths to flame. We had one waitress, a hardy woman who was really on top of her game, except for the one time she chucked a piece of bread at me (and with force!). Appetizers, desserts and coffee were pre-selected, and the entrees were featured in a simple menu that included meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. The food moved as fluidly as the conversation; you can tell this operation is practically a science at the Inn. There's a gigantic moose head in the lobby that a concierge confided wore elk antlers, not moose ones. Learning that made me sad. But I quickly regained composure with the Andes mint he offered me out of a bowl. Man, these people really know what they're doing. read more

I am disappointed to give the Norwich Inn a 2. I teeter on giving it a 3. And although nothing major went wrong during our two night stay, nothing went very right either. From the stained carpet and the creepy art featuring creepy little girls holding kittens on the walls to the fact that we could never get the wireless internet to work, the Norwich Inn was overpriced at about $150 a night for the cheap rooms. Also we were surprised to come back to the room to find that our towels hadn't been changed. We later found a tiny note on the dresser explaining that this was because they were trying to be more eco-friendly and save on water, and if you wanted new ones you had to leave the old ones in a particular place, which we hadn't because we didn't know. Decor in the room was sort of average/ bland. And the bathrooms were pushing the envelope of being antique and being yucky. I think they could do some bathrooms updating and still maintain the character of the place. The grout was all discolored and the sink had cracks and rust stains. I liked the oldness of it (but why cover up what is probably hardwood floors with old stained wall to wall carpet?) and of course the location is perfect, right on Norwich's Main Street, just minutes to Hanover and places to eat.
