After reading many positive reviews on fb and Google I decided to step in and give it a try. I know my NY pizzas and have yet to find an authentic one is Indy. Yes .... I've tried most places and trust me that here is where you'll find it! I wasn't disappointed in the least but. I mean not .... one .... bit! We were greeted immediately by the peppy owner. He was very nice and helpful. In true NY style he talked to us like we were family the whole time we waited for our fresh out of the ovens amazing 'pie' slices. We were able to watch him do his thing from the counter. You are able to customize a slice as well as your own pizza. There's no premade slices that are just sitting in a window waiting to be chosen and then thrown in to be reheated here! What you want is exactly what you'll get! The pepperoni bread sucks and garlic knots were amazing He even has a stone so if you want a crispier crust just ask for 'char'. I highly recommend it. This might give a perception your slice is burnt but it's far from it. Really makes it crispy and you'll love it! This is finally an authentic NY pizza not just a thin crust with NY slapped on it! Finally gave this a try recently and was pleasantly surprised. My experience picking it up from the physical location was much better than my prior experiences with their food trucks; the food was fresh, ready quickly, and cheaper than most other local places. This is a very small restaurant located on the outskirts of the Greenwood Mall. It has a very small dining area that is not well maintained. There is also a television in the dining area, but it was not on while I was there. I deiced to eat there anyway, primarily because I did not want to eat in my car. The restaurant has adequate parking available, especial considering that it shares some of the mall's parking. There was also a farmers market operating right next to it while I was there. Also, they maintain a couple of food trucks that you will see in the parking lot. The staff was not rude and not over friendly. They did their job. Nothing more, nothing less. They do not have delivery, but you can use 3rd-part delivery such as Uber Eats or Grub Hub to bring you food. They have a drive through pickup window for those that had pre ordered. They have some appetizers such as mozzarella sticks, french fries, and garlic knots. They also have a few signature pies on the menu as well. You can buy a pie (3 sizes) or just a slice. You can also make your own. I got a small Da Big Meat Yorker. It took them about 15 minutes to make my pie. I ate it in the dining room. It was not really New York style, but it was good. I haven't lived in Greenwood for a while, so when I came to visit recently, my mom suggested a new pizza place in town. I ordered pizzas using their website, which was straightforward. However, I got confused and accidentally ordered double of ALL the veggies on the pizza. I called a little while later to get an ETA and the owner explained that the veggies pizza would take longer to cook since it had, well, twice as many vegetables on it. I was apprehensive about what this veggie monstrosity was going to look like. Was it going to be a soggy swamp pizza with puddles in it from all of the vegetable juice? Would the veggies still be cold and raw in the middle? I needn't have worried. The pizza was FANTASTIC. Crispy crust, well cooked veggies loaded on top, no puddles of liquid, no falling apart when you try to eat it. It was dense and a single slice was hearty, but I didn't get that usual post-pizza indigestion either. There wasn't a lot of extra grease, just enough to get delicious garlicky flavor with each bite. The NY Slice is definitely worth checking out. This guy is a master of his craft, uses high quality ingredients, and makes a pizza that would not be out of place in Brooklyn. My children really enjoyed their pizza from The NY Slice. But my children have no history with good pizza, nor do they have any expectations associated with the phrase "New York pizza." So they ate their pizza happily and heartily. The slices are large, so my two kids split one slice between them. My husband and I were a bit underwhelmed with our pepperoni pizza slices. They were greasy but lacked flavor, and they were very bready. But I think if you visit with the idea that you're going to get a decent slice of Midwestern pizza -- and not a slice of New York pizza in the Midwest -- then you should be good. One of the great things about The NY Slice is that they have a drive-thru. They don't have a menu for you to look at beforehand, though, so you'll either have to look at what they offer online, or just order pepperoni or cheese pizza, because surely they will have both of those. It's kind of nice to have the option of pulling up to a drive-thru to get a single slice of pizza. Not very many pizza places offer single slices to go, so The NY Slice fills that niche. read more

Decided to try the NY Slice from Door Dash and was pretty disappointed. I like that they had pizza by the slice so I could try a couple different slices. I got the pepperoni and a meat slice and hubby tried to recreate the cheese Louise from Jocamos with a build your own slice option. We also ordered the garlic knots. The pizza isn't gross by any stretch but it's not great. The crust is decent, the sauce is bland, and the toppings were like an afterthought. They didn't meld well into the pizza. after my sugar appointment and during i knew i needed pizza. so i searched for near by places. i was shocked to learn the ny slice had a brick & mortar out there. i ordered online and it said to hit the drive thru after i received the text that my food was ready. i waited maybe 5mins in their parking lot. the inside is currently closed. when i pulled up i was asked my name and handed my food. i opened the box and whewww alllof the cheese. i can't say this is actually new york foldable but it is thin and cheesy and greasy. loved every slice. i ate it in the car on my drive home with zero shame. the garlic knots are good too. i personally prefer when they're super coated in garlic butter. the dough itself and cheese was fine though. absolutely will be back if i'm in the area! read more

The Statehouse Market celebrated its anniversary this past Thursday and, as a result, the weekly farmer's market meets food truck frenzy was packed at the Indiana Government Center. Included amongst the food truck vendors was The NY Slice, one of the truly impressive survivors of Indy's food truck industry as it has been around since 2011. Of course, as often becomes the case The NY Slice has expanded since its origin including another truck and a Southside physical location. The physical location of The NY Slice has, as one might expect, a menu that is substantially more expansive than that of the food truck. While their physical location offers such options as sandwiches, paninis, salads, pizzas and other options, the food truck, at least on the day I visited it, consisted of a broad selection of pizza slices (all of which came with a breadstick and cheese for $8), a cannoli, and I believe one other option that's completely escaping me right now. The person working the truck was friendly. The truck is a bit high for someone in a wheelchair, but the employee was friendly and made sure it worked. This was also the case when I was handed my food. I ordered a slice of sausage. At the time, I didn't realize it came with a breadstick. That's a definite plus in terms of pricing, though I'd still consider it on the high side for a decently sized but certainly not large slice. While I'm not going to argue whether or not this is authentic "New York," though from my experience it's certainly New York-style, I found the slice to be in the middling range in terms of taste. The sausage is chunked, though the slice seemed a tad under-cooked. It wasn't bad, but I'd be stretching to call it good. They had quite the line when I got there and it seems like perhaps it was rushed a bit. In what is often the difference between a 3 and a 4-star for me, I would not order it again but don't necessarily regret ordering it. The breadstick, on the other hand, was pretty close to awful. The balance of cheese sauce and breadstick wasn't there - it was all breadstick. It seems like many of the 5-star reviews are for NY Slice's physical location and I must admit I'm tempted to stop in and try them to see if I have a different response. However, in terms of this review, which is focused on the food truck, I am admittedly just a touch disappointed as my hopes and expectations were higher. Would I ultimately try NY Slice again? It would likely depend on the other choices available. In a pinch, I'd probably go for it. However, in a city with lots of food truck options I've identified a few that have never let me down and, at least on most weeks, one of them is usually at the Statehouse Market. Most weeks, I'll probably go a different route. read more

I decided to try a new pizza place so I chose this place. Their pizza is just average and OK. I was hoping for so much more. It wasn't anything that eclipsed most chain pizza places. Toppings are usually basic, and the pizza could have had more on it. It was skimpy and sparse. But, I feel the deciding factor (that takes a pizza over the top) really lies in the sauce and the crust. The sauce and crust didn't blow me away as well. It seems like most times when I go out and eat, I always expect so much more than what I get. I'm not sure if I am being unrealistic, or the quality at most eating establishments is just slipping overall. NY slice does get bonus points for offering a really large pizza (20"), and it's priced reasonably enough. We were told that they couldn't cut the pizza in squares. They said it would compromise the quality of the pizza as well as the eating experience. I'm not sure what happened to the concept of : give the customer what they want because they paid for it. I don't know what NY they grew up in but the spelling in the menu should have tipped me off to the GAWBAGE I just ate. A Sicilian cut in 6 pcs? The recipe for dough is much just like Pizza Hut (actually Pizza Hut is better.) NOT the New York or NJ boardwalk pizza I actually grew up with. The bread sticks were just that. Kinda like popping open a can of Pillsbury and shaking Italian seasoning and powdered parmesan on it. I am disgusted spent $60 for this nonsense. Oh we got the Greek salad too. It was fresh and pretty but no croutons. I guess they didn't have any left over pop out bread to make croutons. Caesar salads COME with CROUTONS. I found a close pizza joint to try. I didn't do my research. I called and ordered a "medium supreme." It is unclear to me why I was not corrected or informed of my ignorance. However, I admit this is also on me. Not the reason for the poor review: I got a 20" pizza, with apparently the correct toppings. The middle half of the pizza was soggy and gross. We went during covid-19. They said wait in the parking lot and they bring it out after they called. When they called I told them we were outside waiting... no one came, still no one came lol. So I'm like ok. Go to drive thru since they dont know what they are actually doing. We do. We get up there. And it's been 15 mins from the phone call saying our order is ready. Oh, your garlic knots are done yet. I wanted to be like you called, said everything was done, told you we were out in the lot waiting and no one ever came... so now we are here. Anyway. We got the food. Cars piled up behind us upset. Sorry guys, not our fault. Food: Pizza was decent, they are not generous with topping. I asked for ricotta on half a large (we had 3 small spots) and oily (pat it with something clean to remove). Garlic knots are a no. They tasted strange and ours were a little to brown. I had intended to try out the food trucks each Friday during the summer that locate on Georgia Street, so even though I was running late in the lunch hour, I noticed there were still about a half dozen options lined up serving customers. After finding some metered street parking near Union Station, I walked the block over to the trucks and decided to try out NY Slice (it is based out of the south side restaurant). I saw there was an Italian Sausage Combo option available and went with that. The menu states that the sausage comes topped with peppers and onions, as well as with a beverage, chips, and a cannoli (all for $11). So I placed my order, paid, and waited a few minutes for them to call my name. In fairness, it was after 1 pm when I placed my order, so it is possible that there had been a run on that choice. But for whatever reason, instead of telling me they had run out of peppers and onions, someone in the truck decided to add the chili sauce instead. I carried my meal when called back to my car and realized that I didn't get what I asked for. I understand that if they run out, they can't go get more, but they should mention it to the customers. Otherwise, you get bad reviews. See how that works? The sausage itself was fine. Not very spicy. Just enough to tell it wasn't a hot dog. But without the blend of flavors that the peppers and onions would have provided, the sausage was disappointing. The chili sauce was supposed to be spicy as well, but it wasn't. If you're super weird about crust (I am), it wasn't anything to write home about on the pizza (I prefer thin and crispy). The NY Slice has a new location right next to the Greenwood Park Mall. The new location is much easier to access. The pizza was delicious as always. We tried the salads and cannolis for the first time in this trip and wow! The salads are huge! A salad alone is a big enough serving for a meal. The cannolis were unbelievably delicious! This is my top pizza place and my first pick over anybody. The speed is amazing. Ingredients are top of the notch and the taste is phenomenal. I'm a big pizza connoisseur so take my word for it. The owner is extremely polite and he's very passionate about what he does, and make sure his customers are taken care of. Fix up, look sharp. There's a new pizza truck on the street. They were sold out yesterday on the circle by 12:30, so they must be doing something right. I have driven past this place and wondered why it has stayed open so long so I decided it must be good, I gotta try it. I ordered ahead and used their drive up window. I got an order of breadsticks, 2 slices of pepperoni pizza, and a medium margarita pizza. I will say the pizza was cold by the time I got home from my 7 min drive, gave me microwave reheated day old pizza vibes. The breadsticks were flavorless and semi-spongy.
