Jack was a very attentive server. He amended our bill when the entree was incorrect and even custom made my drink to lower the sugar. The Cobb salad was huge and delicious. The shallot vinaigrette was sweet and a perfect complement to the greens mix with plenty of tomato, cheese, and bacon as well on the side. read more

The Oak Barrel was a good location for a family date night. The kids had a great time and enjoyed atmosphere and food. We opted for the Oak Barrel platter and a side of mac & cheese. We had the opportunity to stop in here for a work dinner. The place offers a great amount of draft beers, amazing cocktails (heard the paper plane cocktail was great) and finally great food. I got a GreatLakes Hazy IPA and an old fashioned to drink and a sunny side burger (medium) to eat with truffle fries. The truffle fries taste very truffle-like and the burger was cooked to perfection. Gastropub Cleveland style! We had a great time here on a Saturday night. The facility has got an old barn feel but is elegant at the same time. The bar is very well stocked with whiskies. The bartending was competent and the pours were ample. I think I paid $22 for a Piggyback Manhattan which is reasonable. A clear ice cube would be a good improvement idea. The food was excellent. My Oak Barrel burger was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I shared some with the Mrs. and she thought it was one of the best ever. The Ohio beef is really good. The fries were a miss for both of us. They are hand cut and a bit thick. The seasoning was good but there is just not enough crispiness. I suspect they are frying them only once. I would suggest the double fry method and make them thinner. Our server was fun and attentive. We loved the time we had at The Oak Barrel and recommend it highly. read more

What a great place for a casual night out. We ordered the brisket as a dinner (not in the menu but available). This dinner came with two sides, three cheese Mac and broccolini were both good. Also not listed but available is the savory cornbread which is a don't miss! The brisket was tender, yummy smoker bark left on and plentiful 9!ounce portion. Also ordered the rack of ribs which were fall of the bone (and the e meat really did) and a nice balanced bbq sauce. Do t kiss the Cole slaw with this dinner. A cabbage, arugula, shred dressed with a chili Thai sauce. Just right with the bbq. Stephanie was an outstanding server and you just don't find that very much these days. I'm giving this place five stars just for the ribs which could be the best in the region. I would recommend getting a full order because the slabs are not that large. The house slaw is also terrific and should not be missed. I also tried the fried Walleye and the onion rings. Both are very flavorful options, but I found that beer batter coating is a bit too thick and oily. Service was only fair, but we went at a peak hour. Thought we'd give this place another try since we haven't been there in a couple of years and they list 3-6 pm weekday happy hour specials on their website. The friendly server told us that they really didn't do happy hour any more and the specials weren't until up until around 5 pm. None of it made a lot of sense but we ordered some really overpriced drinks. In the past there was always one thing on the menu that was consistently good so we went for some truffle fries while waiting for the entrees. Sadly, this time they were soggy, under cooked, and pretty flavorless. Clubhouse sandwich was large, but very dry. Herb crusted chicken salad was OK. I'll start with.. WOW!! This is definitely a MUST! To begin our server, Victoria, was absolutely outstanding. From the strat she greeted our groups of 8 with a smile and accommodated us outside as we wanted. She was attentive throughout our lunch and made the experience outstanding. We had been driving from Pennsylvania, to Niagara Falls, Canada to Cleveland. In that week I have to say this was the best food and service we received. My husband ordered the pizza which was fresh and delicious, my daughter the grilled chicken which was juicy and delicious, my other daughter ordered the kids burger which she loved. We also ordered the Brie plate which was out of this world. I wish I had taken pictures of the desserts, the crème brûlée I have to say was the best I had ever had. When I saw a lobster roll on the menu, I immediately was "bought in" to coming here and trying it. The lobster was overall pretty good; however, unfortunately, the bun/bread used was awful, so it kinda drafted the purpose of the "roll". It was basically a hot dog bun, but had a weird flat bread extension from it only on one end while the meat was on top of that extension... Why not get bigger sub-type of buns so the meat can actually fit inside? It was the worst type of bun I've ever seen or had. It became so messy that 50% of the lobster meat had to be eaten with a fork. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I also had fries with a spicy mayo dip as my sides. While I didn't necessarily like the type of fries they had (similar to what Five Guys has), they actually tasted quite good, surprisingly. The spicy mayo dip was delicious! As far as the service goes, the waiter did a great job -- was competent, timely, and ensured refills for water and drinks were properly cared for. Very good overall. The other thing I was disappointed in was being placed in the noisy bar area instead of the more quiet and comfortable area behind the hostess area. It was clear there was a lot of space available, so I have no idea why they couldn't allow being seated there... On a nice night you can sit by the fire or eat outside. Once inside, the bar area is packed. The happy hour is amazing and cant be beat, great prices, heavy appetizers and drink specials galore. I liked, who am I kidding, I LOVED the lobster roll. The lobster meat was tender, fresh and had the right amount of lemon and dressing. I ended up ordering a second one, it was that good. And the bun, if the bun isnt toasted just right or it has time to get soggy, then take it away, but not here, The Oak Barrel makes an AMAZING lobster roll. I also had the kettle chips and tuna tacos, which were cooked perfectly. So if you are looking for the perfect place to stop after work for Happy Hour, host a business dinner, birthday party or just a night out with friends give this place a try. My husband and I come to the Cleveland Clinic periodically and we stay in the Independence area. We found The Oak Barrel restaurant several months ago. It is a spacious and charming restaurant. We greatly enjoyed our first experience so we chose to eat there again during a more recent visit. Both times each of us chose to have the Grilled Jumbo Shrimp Cobb salad which is terrific and a huge serving with Shallot vinaigrette. The Red Velvet Cheesecake had a generous chocolate drizzle and was also terrific. One of the reasons our visits was so delightful was because of Hannah and Gerard who were our servers for our respective visits. Each were respectful and very friendly, providing professional service with knowledge of the thorough menu and great suggestions. Both Hannah and Gerard provided an exceptionally fun evening. Met a few people for happy hour and they were kind to allow us to have the happy hour menu in the dining room. The staff had on mask and practiced social distancing. They spaced everyone according to the state guidelines. The staff was kind and helpful. They offered outside seating but it was a bit warm that day to sit near the blacktop parking lot. The happy hour menus had plenty to choose from. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. I had the falafel sliders and thought they were a bit on the dry side. Since this is a bbq place they should come up with some type of vegan bbq dish, which would be amazing since my friends enjoyed their wings a lot. I visited the Oak Barrel for dinner one weeknight evening while on the road for work. I. opted to sit at the bar. I was greeted within a few minutes by one of the barkeeps (she was already engaged with some other customers when I sat down). I looked over the menu - and ordered the "Devils on Horseback" - an appetizer which includes dates with bread cheese, Fresno chilies, and applewood bacon - served on wooden skewers, and a bit of a couple of different sauces adorning the plate. Really tasty! For dinner, I had the Grilled Shrimp Cobb salad, and a pint of the Nosferatu Imperial Red Ale (Great Lakes Brewing Co., Cleveland, OH) - a hoppy, delicious, Halloween seasonal red ale. My first pour of the ale seemed off - I chatted with the barkeep - and noted the ale seemed flat - no carbonation. She went off to check, came back and poured me a fresh one - she did something, because this one had a proper head on it - and was not flat. The salad was fresh, tasty and filling, the grilled shrimp were cooked perfectly. I don't usually order dessert - but one dessert in particular caught my eye - the "Dragon's Milk Brownie Sundae" - so named because the ice cream is made with Dragon's Milk Stout (New Holland Brewing Co., Grand Rapids, MI). I've drank Dragon's Milk Stout many times, but never had it in an ice cream! The dessert was tasty and decadent. The ice cream was rich, creamy, and delicious - one certainly could not tell their was "beer" in it! The whole dessert was good! Me and the rest of my party of 7 arrived unexpectedly on a Saturday evening. We were greeted warmly and the staff immediately jumped into action to accommodate our group. Despite already having a decent amount of people in the space, they put a nice table together quickly. While we waited many of us took advantage of the well stocked bar. This was an experience in itself. Once seated our waiter, Jack came around to check on us. Jack was attentive, helpful, and on top of his game all night. If getting our table 2 hours ahead of close was a shock to him, he never let on. Top notch service here. I ordered the Duck Confit Mac and Cheese, which was amazing. A nice smoky note to the cheese balanced with a warm creamy texture. I also tried the crab balls, frites, duck fat popcorn, and calamari. Don't judge, we sampled around the table a bit.
