I do have a soft spot for wanderlust because of their unique flavors but Handel's has won my heart with a classic flavor. I typically enjoy the fruit flavors because I personally feel that they don't taste as sweet as the others. My favorites growing up were strawberry (with real chunks of strawberry) and other similar flavors. I tried one small waffle cone of Handel's black cherry and am hooked. I will never look back. The black cherry is my perfect ice cream. Delicious, not too sweet, and FULL of the real cherries inside!!! The real cherries are my absolute favorite part and I've never had a black cherry that came with this many before. Not to mention the small is still HUGE and for only $7!! The flavor of the actual ice cream is perfect and I like that there's NOTHING else, no chocolate chip, no "ribbon" of cherry, and no mix of vanilla. I never thought it was possible for me to have an absolute favorite ice cream. I have been back many times since and haven't tried any of the other flavors. I've tried the black cherry on the cake cone and sugar cone. I'll probably get it in a dish! Probably the waffle bowl too! I will keep coming back!!! I haven't been to any other location, but this one is great. Convenient location for me and plenty of parking in the Oaks mall area. Right next to AMC so I can grab an ice cream before a movie. The service has always been so friendly and efficient! There isn't much seating around but that's okay because I eat it so quick. The ice cream is rich and full of flavor... So many delicious options. It looks like they make the ice cream there! It's rich and creamy... And there are lots of options for GF or dairy-free guests. Our friend had mango sorbet and was thrilled with it! Tastes homemade daily like they advertise! The kitchen looks spotless and organized too. And there are tables outside to eat .. nothing inside. The service was good... Could be a bit faster... But we received the correct orders and napkins when we asked. Portions are very generous and bowls are matched to portion sizes. Wish the sign that flipped between options changed a bit slower... Was hard to read, but they had the menu in small form at the window with photos to make a good decision as we ordered. The friendly cashier answered questions about the options. I ordered a vanilla frappe with added lavender flavor - decaf with oat milk and no whipped cream. It was creamy and delicious! Such a fun changeup from some of my other go-to orders at the other chain. Speaking of chains, this small local group of coffee / gelato / baked goods delectable offerings is said to be family-owned and expanding around Ventura County. They do offer gelato, with several vegan options. Will try that another time. I really enjoyed my frappe beverage, and DH went with a savory filled croissant. He reported that it was excellent. We sat outside on their patio area on the east side of the shop. It extends quite a ways along the building. There's a pedestrian area in between Honey Cup and a sushi bar to the east. A serene water feature anchors that zone, adding some serenity to sitting outdoors and lingering over your food / beverage. They feature a lot of yummy looking baked goods, in addition to the coffee/tea selections and the gelato bar. Now that we've tried it, we will certainly be back.
