Don't be deceived by the amazing reviews! Red flag number one should have been that there is no website. Red flag number two should have been that there was no credit card guarantee. Red flag number three should've been the first thing the manager said to us was that she thought you're not showing up. Red flag number four should have been that all she did was complain about the pandemic during check-in and wasn't wearing a mask. Red flag number five should have been the fact that they had no chilled white wine and she had no interest in helping me. Red flag number six should have been all the junk stored underneath and in plain sight. Red flag number seven should've been the fact that when my husband went out for coffee at 7 o'clock in the morning, she said she chose to go for a walk rather than have coffee ready for her guests. We had walked by this place many times after spending the night in a wonderful bed and breakfast a block away and wondered why anyone would stay there. And after staying there, we will never be back. By the way, shame on you for refilling shampoo and conditioner bottles! The bottles were both wrinkled from being squeezed so many times I guess that's red flag number eight. Disgusting! My husband and I spent a wonderful anniversary celebration here. Our trip was unplanned and by the service and gracious accommodations you would never know we hadn't spent months in the planning. We happened upon this gem of an inn on our way back from Napa. Your view is the Pacific and the waves lull you to sleep every night. The hiking along the coast is breathtaking. The Moss Beach Distillery was delish and the views amazing. Downtown Half Moon Bay was quaint and had some sweet shops and bakeries. But the highlight of the stay was Annie, the innkeeper at the Oceanfront Hotel. She works hard to provide a lovely stay. Rooms were immaculate, she is renovating and making new upgrades from last owner too. The breakfast spread was great! Lots of variety, plenty of tea and coffee available all day. She precious and eager to serve. You'll love it all! read more

When we arrived there was no one there to check us in. The owner answered the phone number I called that was listed in the lobby. She said she didn't have any reservations for the night and sent her housekeeper home. She asked when I had made the reservation, which was 2 weeks prior. The owner kept telling me that she doesn't have housekeeping to clean our room because she didn't write down our reservation. She told me to go to the 3rd floor and look at that room that was clean. The room shared a balcony and a bathroom! And no fireplace. I told her it was not what I had reserved. She laughed and said "what's wrong with sharing". My reply "really, in this time of masks and social distancing". She recommended that we go have fun and she would be there in one hour. It is now 5pm. We went to dinner at the fish house next door. (masked required). Food good. Back to the hotel at 6:30pm, called and texted the owner and did not receive a reply. At 7:45pm I received a text from her stating that our room was ready. After not hearing back from her, we had left and spent our two nights at the Beach Front Inn (very nice). On the flip side, the rooms looked clean with a good view of the bay and easy access to the beach. read more

Bought a 2 night stay for my parents and they had the best little get away at this inn. They had an ocean view suite, they fell asleep and woke up to the sound of the waves. Bathtub had jets and had tempurpedic bed! I mean the works! Nearby restaurants with good food and were lucky enough to see dolphins! Perfect getaway for couples. We needed a romantic/non-stuffy getaway for someone's 30th birthday. That person did not want to wake up on the morning of their 30th birthday in a stuffy bed and breakfast that feels like someone's house. Landis Shores' Tuscany room fit the bill - right on the ocean, fancy tile floors, jets in the bathtub, and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. It's got a bit of a condo feel, but in a classy way, and the people who run it couldn't be nicer. The breakfast was outstanding, and the overall customer service experience was flawless. Went here for our 10 year anniversary and its just what we were looking for. We stayed in the Tuscan room and loved it! Great room, amazing food, lounge area was complete with fireplace, local paper and during certain times of the day wine, snacks, cofee and tea. The service from the owners was also very good. My only complaint that was since they put the registration/check in desk near the breakfast area, while we were eating our breakfast we were constantly interrupted with the owner/agent taking calls and booking/negotiating rooms. I mean it was so loud that I could tell you the name of the person that booked the room, how many people, nights stay, price and that they booked with a visa??? I would recommend the owners to put up a partition or something to cut down on the noise. The Carneros room( yes, names, not numbers) had an ocean view and a gas fireplace and a jacuzzi tub. My wife and I have spent two retreats here at Landis. The quiet oceanfront property gives the isolation I so desperately need after a hard year of work. A spacious spa occupies my wife, while I relax playing video games in front of a fireplace and glances of the Pacific. Decor is simple, yet luxurious. Heated floors make undy prancing without socks enjoyable. Breakfast in bed is always a plus for those of us too lazy to get our food with sleepy eyes. The inn has the smallness of a B+B, but the accomodations of a hotel. With an intimate atmosphere and a lack of kids, it makes for a great romantic getaway. I loved my stay at Landis Shores. I stayed in the Champagne suite, which is a room in which dogs can stay. It was perfect for me and my dog: a view of the ocean, private, and well cared for by the owners. In the morning, Roxanne brought a wonderful breakfast, and there were appetizers and wine in the common room in the evening. Everyone was wonderful, and I hope to stay here again. read more

I have to admit, I am pretty surprised by the most recent reviews. I was so excited to come on here to write a review and I felt like I was reading reviews about a totally different place than where I went! Although we never stayed at the Landis with the prior owners, so I cannot comment on the changes as some raters. We found this lodging on Google Maps, and we were linked to Booking.com to see if they had rooms available (which it stated they did not). Since we were in the area (a last minute getaway with no pre-set destination) I called just to confirm they had no vacancy. The female I spoke to advised they had one room. She said I did not have to reserve over the phone, just to come in. We were there within 10 minutes. She was extremely friendly and even let us see the room prior to paying for it. I admit I'm more of a trendy person so the pictures of the rooms on the website were not really my style. HOWEVER, the rooms do NOT look like those pictures. The rooms are completely updated with modern paint and furniture (we stayed in the Champagne room). I cannot even complain about one thing in our room (okay, so the balcony chairs are plastic - but whatever). The bed is a very high end Temperpedic, the tile floors were heated (which was my first experience, and I loved it!), the jet tub was great --- it was all very extremely clean. We did have an obscured view from our balcony, but I am not complaining as this property is water front - you cannot get closer to the ocean. We slept with our fireplace going all night, and our window open listening to the crashing waves all night. It was a wonderful experience. We did not take advantage of the food offerings, although we had coffee from the lounge area which was good. The breakfast looked "ok" but nothing I would eat. My only, and very only, complaint was that the owner is of Asian decent and the lobby area smelled of whatever food she was cooking - it was not pleasant. Another birthday has come and gone. Again, I went back to my favorite B & B, Landis Shores. From the moment you walk thru the doors, you feel welcomed. My Room was the San Francisco Bay Room. It has been redecorated since my last visit, and the new decor was absolutely lovely. Of course, the view is always the best decor. The breakfasts are imaginative and delicious. Ken, your PB & J inspired french toast was a keeper. The staff are always the kindest, friendliest group of people you could imagine. If you are thinking of a wonderful getaway, a relaxing vacation or just a spur of the moment trip down the coast. Think Half Moon Bay and specifically stop in and rest awhile at Landis Shores Inn. Loved being oceanfront and watching the waves roll in from bed. The patio door has blinds that come bottom up for privacy yet still gave me all ocean view with privacy all the time. The jacuzzi tub, granite, tile work in shower and around the tub was gorgeous! The innkeepers, Ellen and Ken, were gracious hosts and very engaged about the quality of experience at their Inn. So was Brian. Thank you! Walking the beach is right before us and the restaurant next door was so enjoyable with great views. When I need a break from Colorado, I can stay on the ocean here with day getaways to the city! How Perfect is that? :D read more

love love love this place. i don't know what that guy is talking about with the creepy staff, i thought they were all super friendly. we stayed in the champagne room. it had a fire place, comfy chair, sofa, tv w/dvd and vhs, whirlpool tub with a separate shower, a mini fridge and a balcony over looking the ocean. they brought us breakfast to our room each morning. they served tea and coffee in the morning, wine and appetizers from 4:30-6. and then tea after that. the breakfast was super good. waffles w/berries, sausage and orange juice the first morning. the second morning it was quiche, fresh fruit, english muffin and orange juice. they have a ton of movies you can take back to your room and also a bunch of board games. we definitely plan on going back here. read more

We stayed for my wife birthday. The lady behind the counter was so nice. Everything was cleaned and thought through. During our stay at Ocean Front Hotel we were reeling that stay at our home or one of our best friends, how comfortable it was. Our room view was awesome, you can hear waives sound all the time and the hotel location is really good. You have access to the Harbor by 15 min walk along the beach. Spent our 14th Wedding Anniversary here and loved it! Off the main road on Miramar Beach, we had the window open at night and could hear the waves crashing. Had a room with a fireplace and whirlpool tub that self sanitizes. Oh and all rooms have the oceanfront and decks. Breakfast was delivered to our room each morning and was delicious. The in-house massage with Brenda was awesome! We also enjoyed the wine and nibbles in the evening and played a funny game of scrabble. The Miramar Beach restaurant next door was fantastic, best chicken wings I have ever tasted, especially as I don't normally like them. We walked to the harbor for dinner another night, a good 30-40 min walk but some great restaurants there too, Sam's Chowder and the Brewery for good blues/jazz music. Very friendly staff and would go back. One thing I think could improve is the decor - a little dated and cold. read more

I would come back, for one reason: the view and the proximity to the ocean. The balcony was great and it was wonderful to hear the sound of the ocean while sleeping. Service during checkin was good. Otherwise, the rest was ho-hum. Evening wine wasn't up to our standards, We never saw biscotti, and we weren't able to partake in breakfast on our last day because we were checking out before 9 AM and they couldn't accommodate with anything other than cereal. Decor needs some serious help. The bedding/curtains are all a bit dated and dingy. I recommend light and bright airy fabrics and more modern touches. read more

My husband and I were looking for a bed and breakfast and of course with complimentary wine and appetizers. We found this place on the internet and it offered per the website "gourmet breakfast" and "Afternoon appetizers and wine (included with your room)". SO when we got there I asked when the wine and appetizers would start, the owner said "oh we don't do that anymore due to licencing issues, but I can show you my cellar and you could pick one", the choices were ok and it was nice that he did that he also gave a us a meat and cheese platter. He did this for the second day we were there as well minus the cheese and meat platter. That afternoon on the first night we were there I asked about what time the breakfast is served and if we can have it brought to out room, the owner than told us that it is a buffet breakfast they just haven't changed the website. I was thinking ok well maybe it is a gourmet buffet breakfast, so I didn't make a big deal about it. The breakfast was terrible; granola with yogurt, terrible bagels, hard boiled eggs, fruit cups, and these cheese meat croissants. NOT Gourmet at all. I had spoken to another couple and they were also upset that they did not receive what was promised on the website. I was very upset that we paid 337$/night and was expecting a gourmet breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese per there website. This was the only reason I booked to stay there. I told the lady when we were checking out that the website is deceiving and that we didn't get anything that was promised to us on the website. The lady told us that "people don't come here for the breakfast". That was her excuse for everything and that's all she said to me. I would have never have stayed here if I new that it was going to be a terrible buffet breakfast and no wine and appetizers, I would have stayed at the Cypress Inn next door if this was the case, I just wanted to try somewhere new. I would not recommend this place and I would never go back. Also the room was blah. The Cypress Inn next door was 5 stars to me, go there instead, at least they offer what they promise and for the same price with the same beautiful views. Also, they allowed dogs so we brought our dog, but like I said if I knew they were not offering what was on the website, I would have left our dog at home and went to Cypress Inn. read more

It's sad to see how the new owners have let the place deteriorate. The once lovely hotel now has a sad, tired feel to it and the boiled eggs and packaged rolls are a far cry from the homemade breakfasts we used to enjoy here. Also, be cautious if you plan to take a pet with you. We were told there would be an additional $50 charged for cleaning which we felt was very fair. After receiving our bill we saw they charged us $50 PER NIGHT because we had our pets. That really adds up and certainly wasn't what was advertised. We love this area and the pet friendly beach but will be looking for a different place to stay. read more

My sweetheart surprised me with an overnight getaway on the ocean and we stayed at the Oceanfront Hotel. Small, cozy place in a perfect location for a long walk along the bluff above the beach. Next to Miramar Restaurant. Corner room with the ocean just in front - gorgeous views and a pounding surf. Friendly owner/host. cozy lobby/lounge with complementary breakfast (minimal). Room with spectacular view, gas fireplace, high ceiling, nice bathroom. the rooms had fresh coat of paint, but overall the property is showing its' age and impact of ocean location. Other mibor things - like tile floors throughout and no area rug so the walk to the bathroom was a chilly experience. would have been okay (though over priced) except for a major downside - the towels and bed linens were AWFUL. Not just mediocre, but truly awful(and i am not particularly fussy). washed my hands and went to dry them on the hand towel (white/gray in appearance and rough) which left my hands feeling dirty - like leftover soap scum. Touched the bath towels, the same. Made the decision right then and there not to take a shower! (did have a nice large jacuzzi tub and large glass enclosed shower - too bad.) But to make matters worse, when we climbed under the covers, the sheets were the same - dingy, rough and itchy - very old sheets, washed very many times, and not very well - so much residue that you felt itchy and uncomfortable all night. To the owner - no excuse for this!!! with that location, the generally nice overall ambience of your property, and those prices, you should be ashamed of the quality of your linens, and the quality of your washing process!!! what a disappointment! read more

What's not to like about an ocean view and falling asleep to the sounds of the surf? Our room had a little balcony; I believe all rooms do--great for sitting out in the mornings and watching a school of dolphins go by, or at sunset, enjoying a glass of wine. Comfy beds, nice shower, fireplace in room and t.v., if you feel the need for the latter, though we found the ocean to be enough t.v. for us. The place is super clean w/wear one would expect in any place that furry friends are allowed. Mirimar Beach is across the road and pup-friendly, too. Nice continental breakfast laid out each morning. The hotel owner, Ann, is accommodating and makes you feel at home. We loved her laid back air and the fact that we could bring our pooch. Seems like a great place to bring kids, too. If you are looking for valet parking, and people to fuss over you, the Ritz Carlton is nearby on the coast. If you like a homey feel, a superb ocean location, and a down-to-earth hostess who does her best to accommodate pet owners and petless guests as well, this place is heaven on earth. read more

Came here for a weekend getaway and it exceeded my expectations! We stayed in the "Carmel" room. All the rooms have different themes. Very modern and everything is very high standard/quality. Our room was equipped with a jacuzzi tub, king bed, fireplace, and balcony, robes, extra pillows. (Some rooms don't have tubs). The rooms were way better than they looked on the website, so they should update it, otherwise the service was great. Very low key and exclusive. There are only eight rooms and one 'common room' which is also the lobby. Downside is, the rooms are very close to each other BUT there is a lot of privacy. Meaning we didn't hear anything from either neighbor. There are always goodies in the lobby, such as little appetizers, hot chocolate, coffee, tea, juice, and fruit! I liked how the service wasn't overbearing but were always delightful to help. The breakfast was good (don't expect big meals). There was yogurt, bagels, pastries, fruit, toast, cheese and meat, sausage, croissants, boiled eggs, presentation was very nice. You had the choice to make your own tray or the manager offered to bring it to us. And lastly the view and the beach being in such close proximity was the cherry on top. Also, there are beach cruisers that you can take for a bike near the beach, this is was the most fun part of our trip. Thank you and can wait to be back! Definitely worth the price! This little place is just a stones throw from the surf and across the street from the Miramar Restaurant. There are only eight rooms, but they are large and nicely appointed. Fitted bottom sheets and sheets that my wife says, "Oh, these are really nice sheets!" Soft towels and no skimping on the little things. They have a lovely common room with a fireplace. The offer wine with cheese and crackers in the evenings. In the morning they serve breakfast in the common room or will deliver it to your room. Plan ahead because the book up fast. Paradise on the Pacific. Landish Shores in Halfmoon Bay is the best place to stay. The bed & breakfast/inn is beachfront and such a nice place to stay. I can't say enough about it. If you want to get away to a beautiful peaceful place and forget about all of your worries, you have to stay here. I booked room 5/15/15 For Landis Shores Oceanfront Inn received my Reservation (confirmation #27147560) and today me and my wife packed our vehicle this morning, looking forward to a relaxing weekend. We drove all the way from Stockton and arrived at the hotel to check in, lady told us that there were no vacancies and that somebody else had booked a room before us. They never bothered to call instead they sent an email. I never bothered to check my email after checking my email confirming we had a reservation. They should have called us to let us know we were cancelled. And then to top it off when my wife and I were figuring out what to do next as we were dumb founded in their parking lot. The lady called me and told me to leave the parking lot. Lol I have to laugh because they had no problem calling us to leave the parking lot but no courtesy to call us to let us know our reservation was cancelled. Landis Shores wasted our time and wasted our weekend. read more

amazing views of the ocean from your window and balcony. you're probably 75 feet or so from the water. makes you a little nervous about a big wave coming up and washing your room into the sea. but alas, that didn't happen. breakfast served at 9am or 10am each morning. very cool. good stuff. although the french toast was a big too moist for my taste, it was still tasty. the egg puff and potatoes with yogurt granola and strawberries the next morning was even better. the complimentary champagne bottle and chocolate covered strawberries when you arrive is a great touch as well. all in all, quite top notch. i even worked out in the "gym" which was actually just a tiny room with a working treadmill, bike and some weights but was good enough for a workout before dinner. we stopped by HMB for the weekend because we had a golf lesson at the Ritz. walking the Main street drag downtown was a quick, fun walk. overall, i would highly recommend Landis. Nice people, food, room, service. Pricey i suppose, but i don't think they are any pricier than any other place down here. And the value for the money is quite good. read more

This is the BEST place to come to for a little R&R with the husband. The sounds of the waves crashing during the day and night is unbeatable. We stayed in the Russian River Valley room which was the only available room since we booked last minute. We were hesitant to book it since it says it has partial ocean view but if you are on the balcony, it looks like a full view to me and we left our door open a bit so with the sounds of the waves crashing, we definitely weren't disappointed! The rooms have been updated a bit since the photos on their website and it has that small town home feel the moment you step into the B&B. It is very quiet and I would not recommend for children. The innkeepers are so wonderful and make sure you have everything you need for your stay. They have delicious wine and appetizers in the evening to enjoy and you can choose to have breakfast delivered to your room in morning or sit in the dining/living room. We chose the room service. The food was delicious! My husband and I are counting down the days until we can return! read more
