Easily the most fun exterior of a bar I've seen. I first walked past on a sunny day and had to cross the street to go check it out further - really impressed by the nice outdoor covered deck filled with buoys and driftwood. Then I met up with some friends the following night and sat inside, in the dark and rain it really seemed like we were eating in the cabin of a ship! A really well accessorized ship. As far as drinks go, they are strong and cover your basic cocktails and beers plus a few sillier options (see: swedish fish garnish). Pretty solid bar food, I was less into the pizzas offered (not enough cheese) but enjoyed the nachos. The best dive bar I have been to so far. The drinks were strong and reasonably priced, all of the people there were nice, and the service from the door guys all the way to the bus girl was spectacular. The only bad thing about this place is how busy it can get. My friend and I had to park a few blocks away, and once we got inside, we had some troubles finding a seat but otherwise it was an amazing experience and I can't wait to come back! read more

Went here for my first time on Saturday night and I was very impressed. Had the hummus plate with an artichoke dip and also tried the Caesar salad. It was all amazing. Staff cleaned up our empty drinks, plates and even took our drink orders and delivered us our drinks even though the "order at bar" signs were on our table since it was a busy Saturday night. The prices were good especially for Seattle. My Caesar salad was $6 and the hummus platter was $12. The music was just what we were looking for. A lot of today's hip hop with some 2000s hip hop/R&B. Bartenders were very nice and attentive. They have a hilarious vending machine full of random things such as hoop earrings, a lemon, a flask. I will definitely be recommended this bar to people and will be returning. read more

I have been interested in this bar for a while and finally came with my friend a couple weeks ago. This place is pretty cool. I don't have too many bad things to say about it. 3 stars for me because this bar is not really my style. It's more of a party vibe than cocktail bar. Loud mumble rap is played and the crowed was a little younger. It gets crowded and getting a drink is a little bit of a fight. We ordered two different drinks and unfortunately, both drinks tasted very similar. The bathroom was interesting. The pictures on the wall are hilarious and not for the easily offended. We didn't try any food items because we had eaten prior to coming here. Great spot if you are in a party mood, but if you wanna chill, this is not really the place for that. I'm not gonna write this place off, it's just that I will have to be in the mood to visit again. Not a bad place at all, just not really for me. read more

If you are looking for amazing food, keep on keepin' on. (unless you want REALLY simple pizza/bar food type fare). But the drinks here are really pretty good. I don't like that you have to get your own drinks at the bar, and wait behind a bunch of folks to get them. The bartender seemed to have their favorites and didn't worry about serving first come/first serve but blatantly skipped over this guy in front of me over and over to serve women. Maybe this is seen as okay, but to me I think you try to do your best to serve the person who has been waiting the longest. The space is funky and fun, a good place to settle in, enjoy people watching over a few drinks. Dogs seem to also be allowed inside which is cool for me, I love me some dogs. Overall A-okay. I thought I already wrote about this bar... Maybe I just did in my head. Either way, what I recall from my excursion here was already being pretty darn out of it -- sleep-deprived + a few drinks. But, I always wanted to go here, so we went. And, it was fun! I mean, it smelled like a frat party, and felt like one too, complete with my blue drink of bottom-shelf booze. But it was modest and provided intimacy -- a table in the dark with Scrabblesque pieces of wood to scribble whatever you want onto them, or to just indulge in the wise or perverted words of others. This bar reopened after Covid and some aspects are awesome. The decor is beautiful and the menu for drinks is elevated since the renovation. The only terrible part of the night was the "last call". The waiter came around and said he would give a min. for us to decide. After returning two out of three people at our table ordered "last call drinks". The bar took awhile to get the drinks out and when they were served the server said "You better be quick". We were then approached by 3 different staff members over the next five minutes telling us to chug our drinks and the final staff member standing at the table until he could take our cup. They then explained that we should have ordered shots if we ordered anything last call. This service was terrible and killed the vine duining part of the night read more

Oooh... I really like this place. At first I fell in love with the name... I mean come on, it is called "THE OCTOPUS BAR". So it has to be good, right? And tonight was the night we finally made it, and we got on board and dived deep down into the dark sea inside of this fantastic, wainscoted and extremely awesome decorated shipwreck. The sailors behind the bar give you the feeling of being "always at home, forever at sea", just as their slogan proclaims. With one beer of the Fremont Brewery in one hand and a mermaid in your arms you can set sail and reach new shores. Or well, at least find a nice placed table in a cozy corner. And did I already mention the good stuff that they bring to you right out of their caboose? No? What a shame. Because the flatbread was really good (just thinking about it makes me slobber)! Hm... I am not sure what to call this kind of bar! It's kind of dive! I came here to send off my friends to a marathon race just before Memorial weekend. A group of us came here to celebrate. And, I've decided to get the poke (tuna dish). The service was good! Though, when I got my plate, I was a bit shocked! It looked green... I hesitated to dig in. But, I found out, the green was from the seawood in the poke. Probably presentation problem here... But, once I took the first bite, I can't stop. When you know, the plate is gone! It's pretty good! I'm a sucker for big bright colors and things which belong in the ocean or near the water, but adorn the walls - like buoys, crab nets and used condoms. When I saw this place being renovated with the classic porthole windows and funky decor, I knew I had to try it out. When I saw on Yelp that this is a BAR, I was all in. Getting drunk near my house, without having to drive home or really be near a body of water where I could drown is a dream come true for me. The bar is described as a gastropub, but besides the fact that food is served on odd wooden plank/plates - there's nothing really gastropub-ish about the Octopus - more like a very friendly dive bar with cool servers, casual customers and better-than-average bar food. We were there at the start of HH (4-6:30pm) and the smallish bar was already packed and a little noisy, so we went outside to the covered deck. There was only one lady behind the bar serving food and mixing up drinks. At the start of the HH we were told to go inside and place our orders, but after HH swung into full force, our server came out to take orders. Despite the fact that she was the only one working the bar and the floor, the service was great. We ordered the HH Caesar and Nachos ($6/each) were pretty good, and for the portion of nachos we got, and the fixin's the price isn't bad. My vodka & tonic ($4 HH) was a little watered down (1st time), but better the 2nd time around. My friend knocked down two draft beers like a merchant marine and promptly started passing out on me. (She had just gotten off of a 12 hour international flight and 2 hours in Customs.) Overall bill was $45 for 2 beers, 2 wells, and 2 apps, which is a little more on the spendy side for a HH. However, the atmosphere was great, though later on the crowd became quite LOUD (seems to be a mixture of newly-graduated college folks and professionals). read more

We stopped by the Octopus Bar during Happy Hour when they offered a selection of drinks from $6-9. I like that the place wasn't so crowded yet (it was about 4:30pm or so). The finger food selection was just ok. We got a flatbread and it was somewhat a meh. It came with a small salad and some goldfish snacks..hmmm? The S.S. Minnow flat bread tasted just so so, and I wouldn't order that again. Their drink though, was quite yummy. I had a Ruby Mainsail (the bartender suggested that to me) and it was actually yummy, not overly sweet at all and simply refreshing! What I love about this place is that this bar is divey and makes a great place for a very small get together (maybe max 4 ppl in your group). The place is a bit narrow and their tables are small, so if you are with a larger group of people, you might not find a seat. They also have a unique, cool looking style décor around sea/ocean/fishing. It's just a great place for browsing, good conversation and good backdrops for rad photo opportunities! I don't know how crowded this bar get, because as we were leaving the bar around 5:30-6ish, people started coming in already. Since they didn't have much space/large tables, I wonder whether many people who came in would actually be able to find their own seats as the bar gets more crowded at night. The new upgraded space is so cool, there are tons of unique seating areas inside and outside of the bar. The food is amazing especially the wings, there are so many different sauces to choose from. I had heard some positive hype for this place after it's recent opening so I thought I'd come check it out on a random Tuesday night. The decor on the inside is just like an old, old wooden ship (I think they got a majority of the wood from a ship called the S.S. Diversity... okay, sorry. I'll keep the Anchorman references to a minimum) and it's well done. The service is friendly, relatively quick, and the drinks are poured with a heavy hand. However, I came away from the octopus bar underwhelmed, for the most part. It might be a product of the high expectations I had coming in. After I saw the food/drink choices and prices online, I think I was expecting something that resembled more of a restaurant and less of a college dive bar, which is probably naive on my part for a place called The Octopus BAR. But I think that if you're going to make the effort to create a food/drink menu like they have, and charge up to $13 for tapas and $8-10 for a drink, the atmosphere would be a little more upscale. There was a sizable crowd in there for a Tuesday which made for minimal indoor seating. There is a nice outdoor area (where I sat in drizzling rain while waiting for some indoor space to open up), which will almost certainly make this place better when it gets warmer. But for now, I'm a little hesitant to come back on a Friday or Saturday night, especially if I'm looking for a warm place to sit. I think I'll come back here another time when I'm only looking for drinkin'. The crowd is fun and the effort by the owners and staff is absolutely present. My friend and I were ambling along looking for a bar for HH and after passing a bunch of sahdy looking spots, stumbled upon the Octopus Bar. Fantastic atmosphere! It's a nautical bar located in between two old movie theaters and is such an awesome spot. It was too cold to sit on the patio so my friend and I sat at the bar instead. I loved my visit to The Octopus Bar! We were originally going to go to the Iron Bull a few doors down but they were dark and empty. We passed The Octopus on our way there and it was full of life! We walked in, sat at the bar, and asked if we could watch the hockey game. As a couple who's just off the boat in Seattle (okay, the car) we came across the octopus bar and knew it had to be the first bar we checked out. We both love nautical themes and TOB did not disappoint. The aesthetic was exactly what I had hoped... Ropes, anchors, vintage trunks and strung up lights littered the rooms. We instantly felt welcomed and cozy. We came during happy hour and decided to try out their appropriately named sea themed cocktails. I went with the 'down the hatch' and my gf decided on the 'heart of the sea'. Both drinks were excellent but I preferred mine over hers because of the whiskey base instead of tequila. Just not a tequila guy. After that, we split an old fashioned as it's just a classic we love. It was as strong as I had hoped and did not disappoint. Our bartender Trevor (also owner it turned out) was super welcoming and helped us with our undoubtedly annoying newbie Seattleite questions, haha. This is the most sea-worthy trip for any buccaneer. After my mates and I were awash with the long haul we happened on this wonderful establishment which was welcoming, hospitable and had rightly excellent pricing that met my crowns allowance. A melody of good tunes and games were afoot and we really appreciated the good cheer and energy in these dark times. The grog was delicious and its a local public house with a cozy vibe.
