This is one of the first stops you can make into downtown Hoonah. The bar is full, the beer is COLD (as are the glasses), and the service is friendly. Mary is great. It's a BAR. Like, a BAR. Dollar bills taped everywhere, music blaring, a small pool table, and a wooden bar. The locals are very welcoming. Pull up a stool and make yourself at home. Definitely worth the stop. Bar food. It's a dive bar in remote Alaska, what's not to love? After walking the 2 miles from our cruise ship into Hoonah we saw the Office Bar and it looked like a cool place to have a few drinks and rest our legs. The bartender was a very kind and said her aunt was the owner. We chatted with her about the area and what it's like living in Alaska. A few other cruise ship folks stopped in and soon there we a fun group of us laughing, joking, and drinking. It proved to be a good place to stop in Hoonah. read more

We stopped in Hoonah AK while on our Alaska cruise. After wondering about the town we diced to grab a bite to eat. We were told The Office might have crab. We arrived there and were told that crab season was over so we ordered what turned out to be the best fish and chips ever! The place is very cool. There are peanuts in the shell on the tables. They also provide free WI-FI with a$10.00 order. Mary did the cooking and she is awesome. If you happen to be in Hoonah AK this is a must There isn't much else to see so stop here and do your walk about after. read more

Stopped by here as we were walking through the city. It was very lively and packed. The service was a bit slow as there was many people in here. We just sat at the bar (free peanuts!) and had a beer from the Alaskan brewery. It was good and a fun spot to check out in town. We didn't get food here as the service seemed a bit slow and we were on a time crunch, but it looked good from what I saw. There is also a local brewery further into the town that we didn't get a chance to check out but also looked good. read more

Fantastic! We stopped by after reading reviews and are so happy we did! Were told to walk over to another restaurant and checked out their menu but all the customers food looked burnt so came back to The Office Bar for Dungeness crab and are SO SO happy we did! We stopped in here to take a break from walking, have a drink, and waste some time while in port on a cruise. It's a dive bar which we love that had good strong drinks and free peanuts. After being on a cruise ship and in several ports with very limited cell service/wifi, it was nice to be given a wifi password to share some emails and pictures with family. I decided to try the chowder (it's hard for me to resist chowder on a menu), but wasn't a fan at all. I wasn't there for the food though, and enjoyed my drinks! read more

The food is good. Ok, the crab is good. The rest is frozen stuff made in a microwave. The beer is pretty good also, 3 on tap but plenty of other choices. The soup was strange and not warm. Should have been clam chowder, but it was lacking clams and had plenty of potatoes and bacon. Otherwise skip everything else. And the crab was $25. The service was not good. Dirty tables that you could clean yourself, and kinda rude. And extremely slow. read more

Trying to get away from the tourist traps and buy local we found The Office. Elsie and Mary treated us like family. The halibut fish and chips was great and Mary's made-fresh-daily clam chowder was delicious. I thought it was more like corn chowder than traditional clam chowder but it was thick and full of flavor. If it is 5 o'clock, The Office is the place to be and It is always 5 o'clock in Hoonah. Get away from the over-priced cruise-owned businesses and visit this local gem. read more

Fantastic local dive w simple and yummy fresh food and great views. When Hubby and I stopped by it was too early for crab (Crab season begins mid-end June). We were informed that the menu is the catch of the day. That day, halibut and fries, so that's what we had. We split a meal (there was plenty) and each had a bottle of Alaska Brewing IPA. I was a little worried when the cook hopped off the barstool and I realized the kitchen was a card table and fryer open to the whole bar...There was no need to worry. We happened upon The Office Bar while looking for seafood off of our cruise, and it was perfect. The place is a cheery dive bar with unlimited peanuts at the table. The Dungeness crab was amazing and a great deal, considering it came with a bowl of chowder and a 2.5lb crab for $25. The beer selection was small but sufficient, and the staff were great. read more

We stopped by Icy Straight Point on a cruise. We wandered over to Hoonah for a pleasant walk. We went to the Office Bar for lunch. It is a simple little bar that serves a few food items which include crab cakes, nachos, chowder, and fresh Dungeness crab. The bar overlooks the water so it is a nice view. They serve a pretty good selection of beers. I opted for an Alaska summer ale which was very good. We shared a crab which came with a large helping of potato salad for $25, which was a great meal and the crab was so sweet and tasty. I would highly recommend the short 1.5 mile walk from Icy Straight Point to Hoonah to get the crab here (significantly cheaper and nicer atmosphere than what is available near the cruise ship). The walk is pleasant and the reward at the end is worth the walk. read more

Wonderful hot spot to have an Alaskan brew and seafood is excellent. Mary makes a mean chowder and potato salad.
