We came here on our way back to Juneau from seeing the Mendenhall Glacier. I got the Texas size fish and chips. Hands down incredible halibut. It was not overly battered and perfectly fried. It was so fresh. The sidewinder fries were awesome! The Drive Through burger was delicious and the fries were also yummy. We got the pickles in the side - the person running the truck told us he makes the pickles. They were sooooo good. He also brought out a sample of the bbq chicken for us and it was very good. We sat at the table outside and ate the food and it was great! I will absolutely be back here the next time I am in Juneau. This place is a must-try! read more

Pretty good fish and chips spot! We've been in the area for a week and I've tried almost every order of fish and chips I could find. While this isn't my favorite (try Sandbar), the fish is fresh and it's pretty hard to complain. Another win for fish and chips in the area. The shape of the potatoes is a bit weird looking, but surprisingly it works and they were nice and crispy. I did think the fish batter was a tad doughy on the inside, and yet a little overcooked on the outside. Not the end of the world though, and I still enjoyed it. We did stop by during the week for lunch and the truck was closed, which was a bit annoying. One of the brewery employees said this place doesn't always open reliably, for various reasons. Just something to be aware of. Better luck on the weekends. Overall it's a nice spot right next to the Alaskan Brewing Company, which has lots of great beers and a nice patio spot out back to eat your fish, have a beer, and hang out with your dog. My coworker and I decided to enjoy the beautiful weather in Juneau today. The temperature was 79 degrees. We decided to check out The Wild Alaskan. We both decided to have the halibut Baha Mexican corn taco with spicy aioli and cabbage mix and salsa served with fresh lime. When you squeeze that fresh lime over the fish tacos it opens up pandora's box of flavor. The tacos were delicious and I will have to return for the halibut sliders and their very weird shape fries. When you visit Juneau, Alaska you must visit the food trucks they will give you the best taste of Alaska. Since the re opening it has improved a lot. This is easily the best burger in Juneau right now and very juicy. If you're visiting then get one of everything while you can! The fish and chips, the fish tacos... all of that is just so good in Juneau! And Wild Alaskan holds up to that nicely! When we went to the Alaskan Brewing Company's taproom the Wild Alaskan food truck was at the other end of the parking lot. Sure enough when we have some beer we get hungry so we placed an order at Wild Alaskan and then enjoyed our lunch at the brewery once it was ready. I ordered the Fish (Halibut )and Chips. Once again delicious fish and chips as the food tasted so fresh and was very flavorful! Alaska does this dish so very well as well as this food truck! They also serve hamburgers which look very promising but I took full advantage of those fish and chips in which I am so very glad I did. A side note, the Alaskan Brewing taproom isn't close to downtown so if you are a tourist without a car you will need to get to the taproom and Wild Alaskan by taxi, rental car or try your luck with a bus. Since Wild Alaskan is a food truck I imagine they pop up in different spots in Juneau and perhaps on occasion closer to downtown so definitely keep an eye on social media to see where they may be. But they are often at this spot where we enjoyed them. read more

This is for sure a Juneau 5 star!! The wind is blowing like Momma Earth is pissed (she should be) and it's cold and snowraining. Ain't nobody trying to go outside right now. So I decided to order delivery. Trying to find something somewhat healthy so I tried this place out again. I ordered the Wild King Salmon. Listen it says it comes with rice and asparagus. I didn't get that. I got zucchini (it's winter in Alaska and we are in Juneau ok. ) and instead of rice I got this mind blowing delicious, strange, yet amazing version of some coon ass Cajun fried rice. This stuff is off the chain!! Soft but crispy onions, carrots, celery combined with well seasoned cajun fried rice. I don't even eat rice. In fact I was gonna tell them I didn't want rice, but I'm so thankful I forgot. Because this rice, well this rice is worth all those extra carbs that I'm gonna see on the scale!! Seriously though, cajun fried rice is a thing and it's good!! The Salmon was cooked perfect. It wasn't a very big portion but hey its Juneau. I ordered to have bearnaise on top but they put it in a container on the side and I'm actually really happy they didn't smother this amazing dish in bearnaise like I originally requested. I put the sauce on the side and have been scooping a bit with every bite. It adds a nice flavor. Oh and dessert!!! I got me an order of strawberry shortcake and man the Chef did that up too!! Almost like I made it at home. Nice plump berries, homeade glaze that wasn't too sweet and was definitely not some shit outta a can. And I'm pretty sure homeade whip to boot!! Very subtle yet delicious and HUGE. Like ima be eating strawberry shortcake for the next 4 days while I'm in Juneua. Which I'm allright with. Haha oh yeah and they deliver!!! Away from the downtown cruise rush, this is a true gem of a place. Unlike the pricey places in downtown this is quality food at very reasonable prices. We ordered halibut fish and chips and chicken burger. Not on menu but the owner did a chicken burger for us. Both were excellent quality. We particularly liked the halibut. It had a tasteful herb in the breeding and was very fresh. Strongly recommend for those who have their own cars to try this place. Very friendly owner. read more

YUM. This was the best fish and chips I've ever had - EVER. Halibut is my favorite fish and that is exactly what this fish n chips is made of. It's pretty much what you expect from the photos - it's a small food truck/cart in Juneau in the middle of the main shopping district beside a few other similar food-truck options. They had a big bag of fresh, non-frozen bc it was same day, Halibut sitting out and I knew this is what I was going to get. I ordered two large pieces and sat while they prepared it fresh. The fires were delicious and perfectly cooked and that fresh halibut was perfect. It was so good. The breading and seasoning were so delicious. The fresh tartar sauce was a nice touch but honestly, it's so good, it doesn't really need anything on top of it. They have a few picnic tables with covering to protect from sun/rain where you can enjoy your goodies and have napkins and vinegar in ample supply. Very friendly and prompt food service. I'm not kidding - I wish I could eat these fish n chips at least once a week for the rest of my life. I feel like I've been ruined. If you are nearby - you must try these. A little hard to get to; it's a food truck near the Costco, so you have to ask locals to find it... a pretty long walk from the bus, but it was worth it!!! The menu is really small... all about the halibut!! chips or in a taco. We split the Alaskan sized halibut and chips... sweet, juicy, fresh, perfectly cooked halibut, and plentiful (8 chunks). chips were different, but fine. Service was perfunctory, but no real complaints (this is a food truck). we ordered, they took about 10 minutes to prepare (worth it to wait, since you know it's freshly fried), then took it into the Alaskan Brewery to eat it with a delicious beer (or two), What a combo!!! read more

We were excited to see a variety that offered seafood in the food truck style as a change to the dining experience, and we lucked out by picking Papa Rod's. Food truck prices in tourist area, but it's proximity to the pier and its tastiness are convenient when looking for fresh seafood in tourist Juneau. Just look for the bright orange trailer under the tent. We ordered the fish and chips and Dungeness crab. First, let me say that the Yelp reviews rave about Tracy's King Crab as the place to go for crab at the port. They do have King Crab; however, it is $25 for a single crab leg. Nope, not our style. We want fresh, tasty, and worth our money. So we ventured elsewhere and ended up on what looks like a food truck park across from Ewing Way (alley) just before the library. Here they have WHOLE Dungeness crab for $30--did you get that? Five dollars more for a whole crab! And it was totally worth it. My SO ate the entire thing and was beaming as she dissected it. I ordered the halibut fish and chips. They were well-seasoned and cooked just right. The fries were perfection and the tartar sauce paired well with the flavors. All in all, it was an expensive meal because of the crab prices at $47 total for the meals with a water, but it was worth it for the fresh, just-out-of-the-bay flavor that we experienced at Papa Rod's. Changing my rating. They're going back to heavily breading their halibut! After I peel off the breading/fillers I'm left with a small piece of fish! They did that a few years back so we stopped going. Decided to try them again and they were really good, not lots of breading with fish, but fish with light breading. Apparently they've gone back to hiding the fish in the breading. Very disappointing. I sent Jeff an instant message via FB but no response. We don't mind paying the $22 for eight pieces of halibut, but definitely not for breading and fillers. I hope they go back to their once delicious lightly breaded halibut, because they WERE the best. read more

The Fish and Chips is big enough to share as you get two, good size pieces of halibut and a large helping of fries. Alaska is known for its fresh fish (salmon, halibut, etc.). As a result, you definitely need to try some fish and chips. Papa Rod's is a food truck [shack] right at the pier. The fish is prepared fresh. I could see the halibut being sliced up in front of me then breaded and fried. The fish was ridiculously smooth and tender. Halibut is flaky and falls apart in small rectangular chunks in a glorious way. The fried breading was perfect and had a little kick to it. The fries were good but nothing special. The fish and chips were also not cheap. It cost me over $20 after tip. However, the price was consistently the same at other cities the ship stopped at. In my opinion, Papa Rod's had the best fish and chips I ate in Alaska. Moreover, they sell a full Dungeness crab at $30. Even if you do not order it here, definitely try some fresh Dungeness crab at some point. I do not even like or generally eat crab but I spent a lot of time sucking Dungeness crab out of its shell during my trip. I stopped by Juneau as part of an Alaska cruise. Best burger I've had in quite some time, and their fries were perfectly seasoned, I couldn't eat everything fast enough. Proprietors were friendly and quick.
