We had the place to ourselves at first, and spent time getting to know Perry, a woman whose family has owned the operation since 1974. She said most of the buildings date back from the mid 1859s. Entertainment was also provided by 20 chickens (17 hens and 3 roosters). The wines were wonderful and lovingly explained by Perry. We left with a red and a white, and a feeling that this had been a very special hour.

You have a great driver, Kevin, who is very knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and most of all patient to put up with all our drunken shenanigans during this past weekend's Yelp Beer Bus event. The bus itself is clean, comfortable, and has both a tv and dock for playing your Ipod's. It's a great way to get around and taste a lot of beer without having to worry about getting a DWI ! Kevin knows all the routes to some of the best local breweries, and is a big craft beer guy himself. They do many beer tasting events on LI and around the local NY area and have packages available for group trips, or shorter shuttles to the local brew tastings. Check out the website for upcoming beer events and rates. To me, it's totally worth the cost to enjoy a worry free, and safe day, rather than drinking and driving. We hit up Great South Bay, Long Ireland, and Port Jeff Brewing Company. That last stop in Port Jeff on a terrific spring day was just perfect to try some beers and then wander around the town for a bite to eat before heading back to the train station to drop us off. Great for a conversation piece to bring up at any cocktail hour. We booked the oyster tour as part of a bachelorette party. We came prepared with sneakers and hat. Dave and Ben greeted us at the entrance as we drove in. It was our private and another couple. It was very informative tour as they discussed the species of oysters found in different parts and took us through the algae growing greenhouse and oyster spawning area and discussed how they select oysters. Then they took us to the waterfront where they showed the process of farming the oysters in "bags" or large metal baskets and then eventually sort them. Afterwards Ben shucked lots of oysters for us and paired it with different local wines and sauces for the oysters. Delicious! There was also non-alcoholic beverages available too. Everything was very picturesque and great for photos with the dock and the waterfront.
