Burned ( and I mean burned) fish and delicious homemade chips. Disappointing scallops with a minuscule piece of pork belly (the size of a scallop). Yucky sauce. Scallops were not over cooked but had a peculiar taste. So bad. How did kitchen not see that fish was BURNED? Two bad meals. We couldn't stop talking about how bad this meal was. My husband has always refused to send back food no matter how bad it is. He has now decided that this policy should change. It doesn't help with tonight's $130 disaster. read more

Had to come back again to enjoy this awesome creation of a place to eat! We started with the 3 cheese flatbread again. Wicked hot and tasty! She had the Caesar Wrap with shrimp and I had the Chicken Pesto Sandwich. A water with a lime for her and Arnold Palmer for me on the drinks. Service was awesome as usual and the food was as well. Perfectly done when everything came out. We took home the leftovers and had them the next day...reheated great! Looking forward to our next visit!! read more

If you appreciate well made, locally sourced meals in a beautiful country setting, this place will delight you. My wife and I visited here for the first time on the last day of August. It was a treat at the end of an otherwise lovely long weekend stay in the foothills of the White Mountains. We wanted a relaxed final meal before heading back to our working lives and the start a busy school year. The Old Saco Inn is a resort and restaurant in an ideal setting -- deep in the woods away from the well-traveled route 5, on the banks of the Old Saco river. For those who want to stay there's a driving range, river sports, and a view that embraces. The owner, John (known as Juan in the bar) greeted us jovially in the open and well-lighted bar. He seated us in the restaurant. He introduced us to our server. And he checked in on us a few times during our meal (as did our waitress). John was the ideal host. My only regret was that, with a house in the area, we really have no cause to stay at this amazing resort! The meal was spectacular in its simplicity. Reasonably priced wine and local beer, a melt-in-your mouth burrata, perfectly prepared scallops and halibut, and two desserts -- each large enough for two. A blackberry cobbler and a raspberry peach cobbler. It was just the sort of memorable meal we wanted to book-end our stay. This is a must-visit place for any who venture up to the Fryeburg-Lovell Maine area! read more

I stayed here with my son while looking for a house to buy in the area. Bruce and John were amazing hosts. They treated us like we'd been friends for years. The property is beautiful, they have everything you'd need for outdoor recreation including snowshoes. Breakfast was delicious every morning with fresh fruit and pastry while you wait for your freshly cooked order. We got there Saturday so we were able to eat dinner at their restaurant. Food was delicious. My son loved the lamb chop and the dressing they used with the veges. The waitress, Kathy, who helped us was great. She gave me helpful hints about the area, how her kids are doing in the schools. Definitely stay here if you need a place in Fryeburg instead of staying at a hotel in Conway. read more

My wife and I just returned from our second stay at the Old Saco Inn this summer. Both times we were there for hiking with friends. And we already want to go back. It is a perfect spot. The inn has a beautiful setting on the Old Saco River with canoeing, kayaking, and views of the White Mountains, including Mt. Washington. The Fryeburg area is beautiful, uncrowded and interesting with a great variety of outdoor activities and number of good restaurants. And the innkeepers are warm, welcoming, smart, and fun. The new owners are Pete and Sandi. We also met the former owners, Sue and Arthur. The inn continues to be in great hands. Pete and Sandi are full of ideas and very busy making the inn and the experience ever better (if that's possible.) For hikers, only 20 minutes from the inn is a spectacular loop hike over North and South Baldface Mountains (which you can also see from the riverbank.) read more

We enjoyed a nice dinner here on Friday night with my son and daughter in law who were staying at the inn. The restaurant/barn is absolutely beautiful. Rustic yet has an elegant charm. The food was fantastic. My wine glass I ordered was actually filled and not just 1/4 of the glass like many places these days. The owners are very personable and came to talk with us. My husband and I stayed with the inn's new owners, Bruce and Jon, last weekend. We had a wonderful time, and both owners were very welcoming. We stayed in the Mount Washington Suite, which has a great view of - you guessed it - Mount Washington. We didn't get to see the other rooms, but we were very happy with our choice. I'm not really into Inns, but my daughter and I needed someplace close to ski options. And what a gem we found! Under new ownership, for just two weeks, but very nice people. My picky daughter thought the breakfasts were absolutely delicious. and the setting is beyond gorgeous: right on the river, views of mountains in the distance. It was a winter wonderland when we were there, and we enjoyed using their snowshoes, but I can imagine summer being super relaxing, too. read more

My husband and I booked a room for our 5 year anniversary. Bruce & Jon have a beautiful estate and a warm and welcoming home. They were available for anything we needed and showed us a wonderful time. Despite the weather our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. As a local, I haven't had the luxury of staying the night in one of Pete and Sandi's beautiful rooms at the Inn, but I recommend to everyone I can every chance I get... We enjoy the Pub on Friday and Saturday nights when they are open to the public with the delicious, hearty food - a small menu to choose from so if you are picky check facebook beforehand and you'll find the weekend's menu. The bar is a warm, local crowd and just our speed when we head for drinks on occasion! read more

Stayed at the Old Saco Inn to attend our son's wedding in Fryeburg. Spent four great nights at the inn - so quiet and peaceful. Our "entourage" (other family and friends - 15 total) stayed in six of the rooms and we all loved it. Pete and Sandi were great hosts. Breakfast on the porch was delicious and peaceful and we were visited by numerous hummingbirds each morning. My only regret was not being able to dine at the inn (we were busy with wedding events), but the just seeing and smelling the meals being prepared was awesome. We hope to visit the inn again soon. read more

More like 4 1/2! We were literally driving to Portland and I found this place on my iphone and we decided to give it a shot. What a hidden gem - literally!!! As we drove through Naples and Bridgeton and made our way along country roads to fine the Old Saco Inn we were SO excited. We have not been away together, away from kids, since February and needed a quiet, calm, relaxing place to stay for one night - it was perfect. Sandy and Pete are the new owners (only had been there for 3 weeks when we stayed) and they couldn't have been more accomodating or pleasant. We stayed in Gabrielle's loft and it was so well appointed. Wonderful linens, a little balcony with a wonderful view, a sitting area....Couldn't ask for more. The Inn sits on acres and acres of land and walking trails. We were there less than 30 min before we threw on our bathing suits, grabbed the kayaks and began making our way down the river. So tranquil. We went to the 302 Smokehouse for dinner since it was just down the road and had a great time. We couldn't believe our lunch bill from Gritty's in Portland was double our dinner meal bill! The band was fun too. In the morning, breakfast included crepes with a yogurt creme and fruit, an egg souffle with choice of meat and fruit, toast, juice, coffee or tea - SUPER YUMMY!!! We had a chance to take a peak at some to the other rooms as well. All very tastefully done with plenty of space. We commented to Pete about how amazing the grounds were and that it would be an ideal place for a small wedding. Sure enough, they have a wedding taking place there in October. I would highly recommend couples take a look at the Inn for weddings, conferences etc. The grounds perfeectly accomodate large tents etc. Over all, we had a very pleasant stay and came away feeling refreshed and renewed. In April I needed to find a place to host a luncheon for a memorial service I was planning. I live in Los Angeles, and the memorial was in Fryeburg, Maine. My first choice was unavailable, but the proprietor recommended I call Pete and Sandi at Old Saco Inn. I did. I got no return call, so I sent an email, nothing, I called again. This time Sandi called while on vacation in Portugal! My date was available. She'd get back to me on return (which was about 10 days from the memorial). Arrangements were made long-distance, and I finally met Pete and Sandi 3 days before the memorial. To say they were lovely doesn't do them justice. They were lovely and warm and very enthusiastic about their property. They made me enthusiastic about the plans they had, and I plan to go back in the fall to see how that worked out. We hosted our luncheon in the dining room. Appetizers were spread in the pub, and the guests were able to watch a pictorial slideshow the whole time we were there. The fire roared in the center of the room. Despite the circumstances, everyone fell in love with the property. The food was fabulous. The atmosphere was exquisite. The circumstances of our luncheon were sad, but everyone was uplifted by the warmth and pleasure of being in that environment. I feel blessed to have found them. read more

What an incredible place! My husband and I were on a bike tour and found this place on yelp after riding over the Kancamagus Pass in the rain. It was so wonderful - I would ride over the Kanc in the rain again just to stay here. The new owners have done a wondrous job with the place and are exceedingly kind and friendly. They went well out of their way to make our stay enjoyable - they ordered and picked up a pizza for delivery for dinner (since we would have has to ride our bikes somewhere otherwise - of course they also have a pub open weekends with food but this was a Tuesday night). They let us wash and dry our clothes - a major bonus for us - clean bike shorts and dry shoes! We took a canoe on the Old Saco and breakfast was fantastic - a two course affair! Yumm! We're currently trying to devise a reason to be in this part of Maine again so that we can stay here again - it was that good. You won't be sorry if you stay here and if you're like us you'll probably immediately start thinking about how you can come back as soon as you leave. read more
