When I am craving lahmajune, I come to The Old Sasoon Bakery! I'll usually pick up 6-12 to go along with their dolma. For lunch, nothing's better than their freshly made khachapuri! My goodness, it is something I could eat every day! The place can get packed pretty fast but staff gets orders in quick. They also have a nice outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your meal. Met a friend here for lunch. This is a bakery. But they have tables to eat there too. I ordered the Jingalov Hatz which was like a quesadilla with spinach, mint and whole knows what else in it. It was really good. I also got the Zathar & cheese flatbread. I'm not sure what I ate. But the green one was better than the Zathar one. read more

A joyous spot to dine in Pasadena!! We each ordered the Khachapuri breakfast special, available until 3 pm. You can order it plain or add other toppings. I got mine with green olives, and as a major olive fan it was a generous portion of toppings! For only $9 this is a huge meal (I was only able to eat half). It's baked to order so it was super fresh and warm. The bread is soft and the cheese is salty which I love. There's a runny egg in the middle to dip the crust of the bread in. It was a very heartwarming and filling meal. Fountain drinks and coffee are available. There's limited indoor seating but ample outdoor seating. No restrooms. Street parking. It's quiet and the staff are kind. Will definitely be back the next time I am in Pasadena!! read more

They have THE BEST jingalov hatz you'll get anywhere in LA. Far better than that crummy spot in Glendale. The flavors here are superb and the dough is so thin and delicious. The soujouk and cheese boreg is perfect, the lamajun is amazing, but that za'atar manaesh is to die for. I absolutely love this little spot. I say little, but it has definitely grown and since the pandemic, there's a whole new section to it. There is nothing like eating when they're hot and fresh lamajoun! I usually take a few of those to go and stay and eat the Mannaeesh wrap. Tasty, affordable, unique! Most of the items are around $5-10. They are large enough to be a small meal. I ordered 4 items and shared with two other people. We had food to spare for dinner. My daughter loves the khachapuri. It's very flavorful with cheese and egg and a touch of paprika. I'm sure I ate it wrong, but it was still delish. There is cheese baked into the crust. My daughter ate hers up and asked for seconds. We also ordered Zahtar with chili and onion which was a flatbread wrap, lahmajune wrap, and cheese, chili, and onion wrap. I love this bakery - I get cravings for their flat bread wrap. Today I ordered the flat bread that has chili/onion and cheese on it - half of it is covered in a delicious white cheese and the other half, a blend of chili and onions - visually the red and white on the flat bread is so beautiful. The first time I ordered this flat bread, I didn't get it as a wrap - I just folded it in half and ate it - it was so delicious. And when they add the herbs, onion, olives to the flatbread to form a wrap, it's just SO good. I need to come here to try their breakfast at some point - you can get different toppings for the egg cooked in what looks like a bread boat. So happy they are in my neighborhood. The old Sassoon bakery was my first experience with Armenian cuisine and I had the pleasure of going roughly a month ago. I enjoyed my overall experience and found the food to be tasty and very affordable. My boyfriend and I ordered many things to taste, my favorite was the olive pastry. His favorite was the khachapoori. The staff gave us an assorted baklava on the house too! I always think about going back to this place whenever I am in Pasadena and will eventually go back. Overall I would rate this restaurant 5/5. I would highly recommend this bakery for a quick or more serious bite. read more

The go to place in Pasadena for manakeesh (they have plain and can fold them into sandwiches) and bouraak. Prices are very reasonable ranging between $1.25 & $3.75 for plain ones, depending on which one you get, and either $4 or $5 for them made into yummy sandwiches. The sandwiches are pretty filling as they include fresh mint leaves, diced tomatoes, olives, onions, and various spices. I would recommend the zaatar manakeesh sandwich as it is really tasty and robust without being too heavy. They have quite a few other items on the menu which I haven't tried because I like the above mentioned ones and don't feel like exploring. But you should. This was a Yelp recommendation and thank you for that!!!! I didn't want to go empty stomach for my drive to Santa Barbara so stopped by here for some breakfast. Saturday 6/25/22 at 8am. A small place, but about 8 tables for outside seating. I didn't know what I wanted and the lady helped me immensely! I knew I wanted the Khachapuri for sure, just didn't know what topping to get. After some explanation, I got the basturma, which is like a thin prosciutto like ham. Ohhhh man.... The Khachapuri is a must! Doesn't matter which toppings you get because the cheese and the egg is the main attraction and the topping is just a plus! The egg yolk though!!!! I ended up eating a few bites before putting the car in drive and it filled me up! But of course I was snacking on the road too! I also got the lahmajune flat bread, but the cheese, chili & onion flatbread blew the lahmajune out of the water! The lahmajune is a thin flat bread or aka Armenian pizza with ground beef, tomato, parsley, onion and garlic. Perfect for a snack! Still yummy, But the cheese, chili & onion... yummier!!! Thicker bread and the chili had a slight kick just to tell you it's there, but I think I'm in love with the cheese. That's what did it for me! Same cheese as the Khachapuri. To top everything all off.... The variety pack of the baklava. That syrup that is soaked into the bottom, flaky dough... I'm savoring every piece! read more

I wish I lived next door to this bakery. I only got to taste three things but I'm already getting ready to visit again. Tons of vegetarian options. Everything tasted super fresh and some of the baked goods were even brought warm from the oven. All three of these were 5 stars: mushroom pie (awesome for picnics, tastes amazing cold or hot), zaatar chili onion flatbread (savor this amazing combo of spices and heat), and baklava (got three perfectly made pistachio/walnut pieces for $1.50). This would be an awesome place to cater from, because you're sure to get something that would please everyone. There were 6-8 tables inside and outside, but it seems primarily a takeout place. This bakery is truly worth all the praise that it gets on Yelp. On my two visits here I bought beorags (turnovers) and mini baklava's for a special seminar in our department at Caltech. I called in the order on Friday in advance to pick up on Monday at 9 am. The beorags I ordered ordered were 7 ham and cheese, 7 potato, 7 spinach and 30 mini baklava's. On my first visit I ordered the same except I ordered 7 olive beorags instead of potato. When I called in my order I told them that the beorags did not need to be warmed. When I arrived on Monday morning the man at the counter asked if I was I sure if I wanted them warmed. I kindly told him no. Our seminar was at 4 pm and I warmed them in our oven at work before our seminar. The flavor of their beorags are amazing as well as their mini baklava's. My favorite beorag was the ham and cheese but I also loved the potato. With all this said their food is great as well as the personal service in person and on the phone. I just happened to pass by this place and got to try some Armenian food, which I'm glad I did! I think it was one of the best breakfast I've ever had. The drink (forgot the name) was just amazing! And the bread and cheese thing was also amazing. It's huge though, I was only able to eat 1/3 of it. The customer service.... me being from Japan where customer service is amazing, it is of course not that great. But for European people, it was pretty good. (If you ever been to Eastern European countries, there is no such thing as customer service lol. You just don't expect it). So from that stand point, they exceeded my expectations. The only downside was that I had to wait for 20 mins for the food to come out. I'll definitely go back there though! read more

Hi, finally went yesterday morning ( i have been ) once before , quite a few years ago They have remodeled and it is bigger ( i think bought the ) business that use to be next door. It looks nice , has quite abit of seating indoor and out. I order meat bouregs and cheese & meat bouregs. But the meat was way too salty !!! Next time will ask , for less salt/spices ( if they are able to make ) like that. I do want to try the khachapouri next time. I have only had once before ( at Big Mama and Papa's pizza ) it was so yummie. So want to try it here too , one day read more

Was on a walk around the neighborhood and came in on a whim. I wasn't sure if they were open and just based on what was on display it looked like slim pickins but it really is all you need. I do want to eventually try their famous khachapuri but I wasn't sure if it was offered right now, they roped off the majority of their shop and only had a very limited space open with a small display and refrigerated In the display there were several pastries, we got a spinach and cheese, a Soujouk and cheese, and a gyros. Everything was surprisingly very good despite the simple looking exterior, the spinach and cheese was completely filled, the gyros had beef/lamb and cheese filling. The Soujouk was my favorite with ground beef, cheese and plenty of seasoning, I don't think I'm very well versed in armenian cuisine but everything was extremely well seasoned and flavorful. My only complaint is that everything was a tad too salty. Their baklava though omg, baklava is one of my obsessions and have been for years. It's one of my favorite desserts and while my friend's mother's version could never be beat, this came very close for store bought. We got 8 pieces, 4 walnut (2 nest 2 original) and 4 pistachio (2 nest and 2 original) and they were GREAT. They were very generous with the nuts, like whole or half pistachios and the walnut pieces were large enough you could bite into it. I do prefer the nest version because it was so crispy and the nuts were more whole. The original versions still towards the bottom still had layers that were crispy, and not just soaked and glued together with syrup. I can't WAIT to come back and get more. Parking is street as I don't think they have a dedicated lot but very doable. read more
