This place is a restaurant that stays in business due to habit not good food. It's kinda like the tourist traps that stay in business because of the location. There are different kinds of good service. There's the kind that makes sure everything goes smoothly so that all of your expectations are met. But there's also the kind of good service, where a restaurant handles an issue very well so that everyone feels good about it. I've eaten in the TJ's space before, but this was my first time eating at TJ's. There's a nice bar on one side. Comfortable seating. Pool table. TV's. There's a restaurant dining room on the other side. I sat at the bar for a recent weekday lunch. I ordered Fish & Chips. After I did, I said "could I also get a side of beer cheese?"Because I like good beer cheese and I thought I would dip the fries in the beer cheese. My server said, "you want chips with the beer cheese?" I thought he meant that they would come with the beer cheese. So I said yes. After 5 minutes or so, a medium size bowl of beer cheese and a huge plate of chips arrived. I said "Wow. This is a huge order." I knew I wouldn't be able to finish all of this and eat the Fish and Chip. Both the beer cheese and house chips were above average. The beer cheese was a medium thick liquid, but it also had stretchy strands of cheese. A mild beer flavor. The chips were well seasoned and crisp. I ate more than I intended and then pushed the plate aside. My server after a few minutes said, "are you all set?" And I said "well I'm still waiting for the Fish and Chips." He looked confused. After a couple of minutes of level setting, he apologized and said that he didn't hear me say Fish and Chips, but he would ask the kitchen to make it as soon as possible. This was a good first step, but I responded that I was working at home and was running out of time and I asked that he just cancel the order. He asked if he could take the chips and beer cheese off my bill. Another good step. I said, "That's really not necessary. I enjoyed them and I'm happy to pay for them." He said, "Let me get my manager." A couple of minutes later, his manager came over and she insisted that they were going to comp my order. I let her know that I didn't think that was necessary, but she comped it nonetheless. So I left a $5 tip, and I departed with good feelings about TJ's. Mistakes happen. But how you handle them says a lot about your character. I'll try TJ's again soon. 4 Stars read more

Tjs on cedar is a great bar /restaurant . Perfect for a low key place to stop by after work for happy hour and get some American food. They have a pool table and darts for some fun as well . They also have trivia's on Tuesday . I went on Wednesday for happy hour which runs 3-6 M-F . I got the cosmo x2 and it was strong and flavourful ( which was perfect for me ) . The garlic parm fried were good ( I thought it had good flavours but some my friends said it could use some more flavour ). Interestingly I don't know why but everytime I come here I feel like the fries are slightly different each time ( not sure if they switch up the chefs ). The Mac and cheese egg rolls were amazing, I highly recommend . The wings were good for a bar and a couple drinks in . Lastly I got the warm pretzel of the happy hour menu and it was a little said ( first it was a pretzel stick so I should have specified and smaller than I hoped . Over all their regular menu I have had there burgers and sandwich's and they are amazing . I will definitely be back for some more happy hour :) read more

He told the bartender and she replied "yeah, my coworker said something about cockroaches a couple weeks ago" GIRL WHAT ... address the issue!!! TJs was a special place for me, we went here after we got engaged, after we got married, for after work cocktails & fun date nights. This was my spot! I've enjoyed everything I've tried here. Two of my favorites are their veggie hummus panini and granny's Turkey panini. Their Cobb salad and strawberry spinach salad are also very good. My husband always enjoys his calzone both taste and size. read more

Post pickle ball league meal ------- We recently started a pickle ball league, the DINKaroos (double meaning of course), with our couple besties. ----- They had a great mock-tail menu - I got the pear option it was very good 9/10 I was surprised - I also got a grilled chicken Caesar wrap (my go to when I don't know what to get) and was also surprised. Chicken prepared well, enough dressing so it wasn't dry. 8/10 -my side was the lemon chicken rice soup.... I basically cleaned the bowl. Nice big chunks of chicken and amazing flavor 9/10 +++++ -THE FRIES AMAZING! SPECTACULAR! we ordered multiple baskets of them. Seasoned well NOT salty not over done simply perfect !! 10000/10 would love to try a poutine with them if they ever feel adventurous. Love that there are two sides. A bar side and a more traditional side so they can accommodate your mood. Would love to become a Sunday regular here. I was super happy with my husband's impromptu pick of this nice little bar after we ran errands near the mall. We shared a mozzarella appetizer - all enjoyed. I had a lemon martini it was great. I had the Reuben egg rolls as my meal they were banging. My husband the pretzels with beer cheese he was happy and my daughters the Mac and cheese which they both liked too. Popped into TJ today after we couldn't get two seats at the bar at the Brickyard and I'm glad we did. Hadn't been in a while because my last visit wasn't that great but everyone always says how good it it so why not try again ? Hubby had the turkey sandwich and I had the chicken tender meal. The slaw was good as a substitute to fries if you like spice and it wasn't over dressed. Accommodated my request to make the tenders buffalo and skip the honesty mustard. thought the turkey sandwich needed a little something - more mustard or something just to give it a little something. Came here as a party of five for a birthday. First timers, all. Seated fairly quickly in a rather cramped booth and ordered drinks. The Dr. Pepper was definitely root beer. Moved on to the Reuben egg rolls which were fine, if a little greasy. Three of us ordered paninis, which were tasty, and two ordered burgers. Again, everything was fine, but nothing to write home about. We were upcharged for sweet potato fries and the kohlrabi slaw was inedibly spicy. Service was good. We weren't blown away. We were in view of the bartender and we saw her do nothing but talk to the guests at the bar while waiting well over 10 minutes for drinks while our waiter brought out our dessert we were still waiting for our drinks, we then finished our food and still no drinks, when they finally came I had to send mine back it was just awful, so I sent it back and ordered a strawberry margarita, which also took FAR too long. We asked for the owner to simply let him know of our experience and we were fronted with an aggressive response with an unpleasant attitude when I explained what my experience was, it made me feel very uncomfortable because the waiter and food were perfectly fine! Music was old school 70s - 80s Rock which was cool. Staff was semi-friendly. The Bourbon Street salad was good. Spinach artichoke dip Is better with the crostini bread. Tortillas were stale. Sunday around 6:30 pm looking for something to eat, we pulled into the parking lot, not full so a good chance not a long wait to be seated. Walk in and asked if the lounge (TVs with sports) or dining room? We picked the dining room and we picked our booth. Waitress came over immediately asked and took our drink order: Fall Pear Fizz, Prosecco and Coke. The Fizz was good but not too sweet, the other drinks were just as expected. We ordered a small cheese pizza with chicken & broccoli, a West Coast and the TJ Classic burgers cooked medium with fries. A few minutes later our meals arrived, the West Coast's egg was a little burnt but the patty was not quite medium/rare, still a lot of pink. the Classic was cooked to medium well both burgers while the burgers were supposed to be cooked the same, they were tasty and well received by each of the different consumers. The pizza was good but a little bland for my taste, maybe better seasoning during the cooking process would have been welcomed. All in all a good place to eat and good enough to give it another chance with different menu items. read more

Located right in the center of Newington, TJ's has a really fun and eclectic menu! From nachos to pizza and burgers to pasta, there is truly something to please everyone. You'll also find fresh ingredients and friendly service all the way at TJ's! We tried the Avocado Caprese Salad- fresh Mozzarella, Basil, Avocado, Sliced Tomato, and Balsamic Glaze. We also ordered ths Spinanch and Artichoke Dip- molten spinach and artichoke dip served with tortilla chips or warm ciabatta bread. We asked to try both. The ciabatta was my favorite. Both apps were fantastic! For a main course, I ordered the Horseradish Steak Panini- shaved sirloin, roasted pepper, caramelized onion, arugula, provolone, horseradish cream. I ordered it with sweet potato fries. Great combo! The prices are great and the food quality and portion sizes are awesome here. We sat on the patio and had such a great dinner! Pro tip: I'm sure the desserts are great at TJ's, but since you're in Newington Center, cross the street and grab a cone at Carvel's Ice Cream to end the night. read more

Stopped in with three others to celebrate a birthday month with some drinks and apps. We grabbed a high top table in the bar section; split into two parts, the typical bar along with another section with darts, billiard table and later in the night trivia. There wasn't much of a happy hour menu, just a reduced price for drinks and possibly a few of the apps; the waitress didn't know. I would say that the pictures on Yelp were outdated as they didn't have those menus at the restaurant anymore. We ordered some calamari that were dry and a little burnt, didn't really stand out for me. We had two different flavors of boneless chicken tenders, a dry rub along with a wet rub that weren't doing that much for me. We also ordered a Spanish/artichoke dip and nachos with pull pork that was probably the best items for the table. We made it work while enjoying some draft beers and margaritas while catching up with friends. I'll stick with other places, seen this place for a while now but looking at what we ordered doesn't really give me many cravings for the full menu. read more

This is a family favorite with a kitchen that will make just about anything. Try the Caprisi and avocado salad for a starter! Yummy! They constantly rotate beers, but they do have favorite standbys. They keep Sam Adams seasonal beers and tend to be IPA-heavy. The pizza is always great and they have several favorites. Service is usually fast and efficient. My reason for three stars is because some times I love my food and other times I don't. I've tried lots of different things on the menu. I've ordered two spicy sandwiches off the menu and it was so spicy I couldn't eat it. One was a chicken sandwich and another was these shrimp tacos (Mind you I'm 'okay' with spice but I can usually handle myself...this was extreme) thankfully my husband would switch meals each time but that's not fun for him or me. Two 'panini' sandwiches...One of them did have marks on it that somewhat appeared that the sandwich was pressed/toasted...The other one was basically a hoagie on a dry, bulky roll. We had great burgers here. The pickle burger was kind of amazing - so unique and also super filling. The bourbon blue was also delicious. Their fries are those thick cut kind that are very potato-y on the inside and they make them nicely. We also had a pretzel with beer cheese. The pretzel was like a fluffy soft breadstick with pretzel exterior. Quite satisfying, but the beer cheese made the app special and we'd def order it again. TJ's is always a standby for us after we try other restaurants out of town. When we come back to Newington to TJ's we are never disappointed. The food is excellent, from the salads and sandwiches to the full entrees it is consistently good. We especially enjoyed the honey glazed chicken and the pan-seared salmon last night. It was better than food we have found at high-priced restaurants. Service is always great. And we always seem to run into friends from town here.
