The orange ice cream is delicious! I've been wanting to try this place for a long time. We got a tri-tip sandwich combo to share. It was perfect for two people. It came with the sandwich, Lays chips, an iced-tea and the small ice cream. The sandwich was alright and just right for two people to share if you're not starving. The iced-tea with the orange slice is so refreshing. But the show stopper really is the ice-cream. It reminded me of the orange Flinstone's push-pop from my childhood except 1000 times better. We drove out of our way (we're from Bakersfield) for what we thought would be a special treat, but the staff was so rude that we left in frustration, empty-handed. I suppose their excuse would be that it was closing time, but we had called in advance (from Porterville) to get directions and they hadn't bothered to mention that they were about to close. We found them through a quick Google search for orange ice cream, and didn't see any information relating to their closing time. After calling them (at 3:51 pm, according to our phone) we drove about 8 miles nonstop, straight from Porterville to their location. When we arrived, we saw people eating outside, but after walking around the entire building we couldn't figure out where to enter. There was no "closed" sign and no sign indicating their hours. But seeing people eating (and seeing more people just sitting down with their food after we arrived) we assumed that there must be someone in the building. Finally we knocked on a door that was labeled "employees only" (which I think was the only sign on any of the doors), only to be shooed away by the Emerald City doorman. (How did we end up in Oz?) When we reminded one of the staff members that we had just called, and that they had not said that they were about to close, she huffed "well, you didn't ASK if we were about to close!" (Back in Kansas, nobody seems to close at 4, so silly us, we hadn't even thought to ask.) When two dishes of fresh soft serve orange ice cream caught my wife's eye, she inquired about them, and the employee (figuratively) slapped her hand, telling her that those are for someone else! Apparently she had forgotten to wear her ruby slippers, so we turned back toward the poppy field. I guess we'll never know how their orange ice cream tastes. (We don't expect to be returning to the Porterville area any time soon.) Rudeness can ruin the best treats. read more

This business is ran by poor staff who blocked me from Facebook because of a comment I posted on their page letting people know that they could still purchase ice cream, and sandwiches at Central Valley Healthy Snacks even though they aren't using the orange Works name. How pathetic! For those that don't know Central Valley Healthy Snacks located in Visalia on Main Street was carrying their products and using their name for a short period but up until yesterday that all changed for some reason I am unaware of. Orange Works then posted on their page they aren't serving anything there, which isn't true because they are just aren't using their name "Orange Works" They were so afraid that they felt they had to delete and block me. I will make it my life mission to spread the word around, I know a lot of people in Visalia and know a lot of business owners who will back up CVHS and help her continue in her business endeavors whatever they may be. Who cares if she's serving what your serving way before you came along she did soups, sandwiches and smoothies that were just as great if not better! Was recommended this place by my friend Sara, who said I would not be disappointed. This is nothing more than a gourmet sandwich shop...with a limited menu, but what they do they do very well. Lunch special for $8 is one of the best food specials in the valley. Had a good tri tip sandwich with a delicious aioli served on a fresh Mexican style bolillo roll. Wife had a juicy well seasoned hot pastrami sandwich with same fixins. Though Ive had the best Pastrami in California at Langers Deli, this is much better than your local Togos sandwich. Meal comes with some delicious light fresh brewed iced tea with a whiff of orange blossom and a homemade "ice cream" The ice cream is more of a sherbet than a true high milk fat ice cream. It was homemade and cold, so it was very refreshing on a hot summer day. I will be back though when I am in the Lindsay area.
