This definitely exceeded my expectations. Great spot for lunch especially if you have people with various dietary needs/preferences in your group. I came with my husband and mother on a busy Saturday but the space is spacious and the staff very friendly so we were seated within 10 minutes of arrival. Started with the Afghani dip which I was curious to try but ultimately felt "meh" about. The concept sounds delicious and perhaps at an afghani restaurant it would be fantastic but here it tasted as if the spices weren't cooked properly into the dish and just sprinkled on top -- resulting in a very flavorful dip that just needed to be cooked more to get rid of the "raw" taste of the dry spices. Still, love the effort to do something different. My husband got the honey mustard chicken sandwich, I got the veggie Indonesian bowl, mom got the veggie Polynesian bowl. Favorite entrees were the bowls -- even my meat loving husband enjoyed them. Really appreciate how the sauces are vegan and the bowls are made with plenty of vegetables. Just really well executed dishes. The sandwich was good but, as my husband said, nothing to write home about. The bowls, on the other hand, should definitely be written about. We went in for lunch and had a couple a very nice sandwiches. However, when we went to pay the bill we tried to use a gift card we had received a couple of years ago. The gift card was rejected due to a change in ownership, and the manager made the waiter tell us they wouldn't accept it. Very cowardly. This was the first place I ate since coronavirus! The menu is fresh and light. Prices are decent. The service was friendly, and employees wear masks. They're currently serving both indoors and on their patio. I sat on the patio. I got the coconut shrimp, which were good and cooked at just the right temperature. I just wished they'd had a tad more seasoning. I also got the salmon salad. The salmon, also was cooked at just the right temperature. The wasabi dressing that came with it didn't really help the salad much. I wish I would've tasted it before dumping it on my salad. I would've gotten ranch instead and enjoyed it more. I find myself stopping at The Orchard for lunch nearly every time I'm in the Frederick area. Wonderful spot in downtown, and with items on the menu to satisfy any tastebuds :) Fresh food is the focal point of every meal here, whether that is veggies, proteins, homemade bread, or locally ground coffee. From what I can tell, their stir-fries are very popular but we ordered sandwiches and salads once and haven't yet branched out we loved them so much. Some faves-- the tuna melt (the tomato tamari dip to dip the sandwich in is incredible); grilled avocado and brie, pan seared moroccan scallops, and cobb salad. Their seasonal soups are a highlight as well. Beyond the great food, the staff is always so welcoming and patient with the (numerous) questions we inevitably have. read more

This has to be one of the best meals I've ever had. This was my first time in Frederick and I was already wowed by the infrastructure, the culture and just the overall environment. This restaurant was the cherry on top to my experience. I was blown away by the food, especially the surplus of vegan options. The vegan coffee cake was truly some of the best cake I've ever had. The stirfry was amazing, but I recommend the curry stirfry which my friend had. I had both of these meals the next day for leftovers and it has me itching to go back and eat more. We had lunch at The Orchard today. I had not been there for years, but it was every bit as good as I remembered. They have outdoor tables, but we decided to eat inside today due to the heat. We were seated right away and our server came over promptly. I love their menu--there are so many good choices. My husband and I decided to share two different sandwiches. So the server brought out two plates with the portions already split, plus two small dishes of sauce for each of us. The Veggie Sandwich comes on a nice, soft wheat bread, with hummus, carrots, cucumbers, sliced tomatoes, and sprouts. The Southwestern Chicken flatbread was delicious. The chicken was spiced just right, served on top of flatbread with cheese and sliced avocado. I really could not decide which sandwich I liked best. I ordered take out one night off a whim. The orchard is right downtown Frederick. Parking was annoying but that's downtown Frederick for you lol I ordered the orchard veggie sandwich which was tasty! I love the ambience. The place looks very nice. The food is not so great. The appetizer was probably the best part which was the zucchini tempura. My girlfriend got the salmon sandwich. Her sandwich came out cold and the bread was wet. Even though the bread was toasted. I got the Japanese stir fry with chicken and there was not enough flavor to it. If you order the Japanese stir fry definitely get it without the chicken. The server would speed off not really giving is a chance to finish our statements but other than that she was nice. Thankfully they did not charge for the sandwich. I probably will not be going back but others who enjoy variety might enjoy it more than we did. read more

Have you ever eaten a zucchini in the winter from the store and then one freshly cut in from your garden? This is what The Orchard is, quality food organic and fresh (also, the portion was great too). I wasn't expecting this from my Polynesian stir fry. I tasted the fresh pineapple, the ginger, and the brown rice. It wasn't just, "I'm eating Polynesian Sause" there are flavor notes that complimented each other.This is my kind of restaurant. Also, not to forget their service was nice, friendly and informative. Server was more concern with giving us space and did a great job. While the interior decor was not quite as charming, but adequately lovely, the Service was prompt and the staff quite helpful. Our orchard salad with grilled chicken and topped with salsa was delicious and fresh. The southwestern potato was tasty. Our waiter's shift must have ended and was replaced by someone who seemed to have many other duties. It would have been nice to know that a change was taking place. How do I describe what might be my favorite meal I have had in years and why is it not possible to give a place more than 5 stars?! When you first walk into the place, the atmosphere is warm and artsy and although it has some nice outdoor seating, I sat inside and upstairs. I started with a side salad which had plenty of carrots and cucumbers on it. I was visiting with my mother and she tried the gazpacho and that was cold and refreshing and so flavorful! We split the Indonesian stir fry with shrimp and not only was the dish delicious, it was filled with more veggies than pasta, which is almost unheard of. I felt so healthy and it was so filling. This meal was so good, my mother and I both woke up thinking about this meal. I have tried to come back on a Monday, which unfortunately it was closed. My initial impression was a restaurant with a simple decor, that offered wholesome ingredients in a straight up manner. Stir fries, salads, soups, sandwiches, and some more elaborate entrees. Our waitress had just the right personality. She was attentive, friendly, and very comfortable to talk to. I chose a cobb salad. It was a good rendition, although I didn't get a grilled flavor from the chicken. My wife chose the Indonesian stir fry with tofu. Indonesian restaurants are far and few between. We jumped at the chance to get that style of cooking. It was very satisfying, and left me hoping for a restaurant dedicated to Indonesian cooking. There were 6-7 types of sandwiches - both vegan and meat options - a fresh fruit plate, a veggie plate, pita and hummus, and six dipping sauces. Everyone raved about the food! I was also delighted with the service. Wais was wonderful to work with, happily adjusting the catering menu to suit all of our guests.
