Small place. Fishy smell. Black spotted crabs. They were suppose to be XL and not at all. Maybe size is based on the size of the crabs versus a universal measurement of XL= 10"claw to claw. The worst crabs I've ever had! Extremely overpriced crabs. Purchased 1 bushel of large crabs for $500! Needed for a family event but our usual seafood store was closed due to the Fair being in town. I purchased a pound of jumbo lump for Maryland Style crab cakes only to get the stuff home and find out it is imported from Alabama. WTF? Westpointe is under new ownership and it's TERRIBLE!! We spent $170 on 1 1/2 "extra LG crabs" today. They were NOT extra LG crabs, had absolutely NO FLAVOR, barely any old bay seasoning, actually close to none. I called to explain our experience being the worse in years with them. The manager said he understood my frustration & my complaint was not the first today, but was unable to refund our money, which was the right thing to do with an unhappy customer. Instead, he offered us a dz "REALLY GOOD" crabs!!! Unbelievable!!! I said we should have received "REALLY good crabs" to begin with!! I declined and promised to include that my review. Just for the fun of it I looked up what was the largest blue crab ever caught on the Chesapeake Bay and it said 10. 2 inches, point to point of the shell. The last time we got our "six extra large crabs" home, I measured them from point to point and consistently they measured 8.5 inches! I came here on Sunday and was immediately greeted. The service was very nice and friendly. I asked what is the difference between the medium and large crab and they brought out one of each so I can compare. They were more than happy to answer my questions and when I ordered a dozen mediums they said my order will be out in about 10-15 mins. The crabs itself was sweet and delicious, the seasoning was on point. We love to dip the crab meat in salt and pepper w a squeeze of lime juice but the crab was so well cooked and seasoned I didn't feel the need for any sauce. This place is freaking unbelievable!! I give it 7 stars !! First of all the customer service is fantastic. Everyone there is very friendly and outgoing. It had a very down home feel. Now to the crabs. The prices are very reasonable and the quantity and quality of the crabs are over the top. They are really large and heavy. I hate when you get a bushel of " large " jimmies and the top of the box are large and the rest are barely mediums. This is not the case at West Pointe. They started large and stayed large, in fact I swear they got bigger as we went through each of the 2 bushels I ordered ! They use their own house made seasoning which is awesome. Its definitely old bay based with their own added spices ( spicy goodness) . Not much else to say but...run don't walk to West Pointe Crab House. Due to surgery, there is very little I can eat in terms of solid food. But I can eat Cream of Crab soup and I came here specifically for that. This is a carry out place, and the Cream of Crab soup was frozen. That's OK because I live 60 miles away. When I decided to have it and thaw it out, it was almost ALL CRAB. Ordered half a dozen of crabs, and a soft shell crab sandwich. The crabs were a decent size (despite having ordered small), and seemed pretty fresh. I just didn't prefer the seasoning they put on it, since the crabs were salty enough to my tasting anyway. I was surprised to see that the soft shell crab was steamed instead of fried, but it was a different taste.. maybe even more preferable. Only downside was that it was served on wonderbread. lol. The one star which now that I think about it should actually should be NO STARs for their lack of professionalism and customer service. For starters I bought close to $200 worth of food, so you would figure since I bought so much food they would offer to help me bring live crabs to my car, right? NOPE Instead I witnessed the Caucasian lady who was assisted before me who bought a mere $50 worth of COOKED crabs get offered assistance and even was made sure she was ok. When it came to me I was told I should be alright ( even after I ASKED FOR SOMEONE TO HELP ME) to take it to my car with NO assistance and while I was being serviced was even offered some not so great looks while I was there that I am pretty sure was not apart of my $200 order. So fair warning to future minority patrons the food was decent but not worth that type of treatment. Sidenote: I went to a far better crab place a week later in Southern Maryland (Crab knockers) and ordered the same amount at a better price and was not offered to have the live crabs taken to my car without having to ask. read more

I have been coming to West Pointe for years and they have the best crabs in my opinion in Frederick, Maryland. The crabs are heavy and cooked just right...never watery or too soft. They are fresh and larger than the average sizes at other crab restaurants in the area. Also, try the mac and/or potato salads which are homemade and delicious. Spectacular! If you are carrying out crabs steamed or want to steam them yourself this is by far the best place in Frederick or anywhere I've tried for that matter. We picked up a bushel of live mixed yesterday and they did not disappoint. I counted roughly 85-90 in the bushel and a grand total of 1 did not make it to the steamer. They of course varied in size but almost each and everyone was packed. Crabs have been good all year except last time I got them September 16 weekend ordered a bushel of a large medium mixed 9O% of crabs were the same size of a beer can somewhere even smaller which I believe is illegal like I said earlier crabs were good the previous four times not sure what happened this time around but one thing I can say the lady was very polite asked me to bring them back and she would make them all right but who feels like driving back outthere when you have friends over entertaining and a few hours worth of beer drinking involved.for what the price was I don't think I'll be trying them again anytime soon just not sure what happen with Great crabs all year read more
