This is really not good. I am not a picky eater/diner, but this was just gross. I had Eggs Benedict and my son had wings we paid $30.34, and the food was hardly edible. The eggs Benedict sauce was sweet, didn't taste like hollandaise sauce at all. I was starving, so I ate it. The hash browns tasted like old oil. My sons hot wings were piping hot, but tasted so bad he could barely eat even one of the wings. They charge quite a bit for food that is so ill tasting. Super irritated with this establishment. First and foremost, the waitress is awesome. She was pleasant. But overall, this is ridiculous, our plate came out with 2 strands of HAIR! I notify the waitress to let her know about without making a scene. She comes back to let us know that she was getting the ticket adjusted. Turns to find out that they still charge us for the meal when we couldn't eat due to the unsanitary of the plate. First and foremost the kitchen staff should communicate that there was no clam chowder for the night. That's annoying. Whoever manages this establishment needs to know how to customer service and make things right for the customer. We arrived at 8:45pm with a party of 7. As we waited to be seated we kept looking around at the floors (FILTHY). The seats were stained with milkshake and ice cream :-(. My husband doesn't like going out to eat, so when he saw the seats, floors, and used the men's disgusting restroom, I knew he was going to be complaining about my restaurant choice for weeks. I thought this restaurant would be in much better shape, since it has only been open for a couple of months. WRONG! There were smashed French fries under our feet, oily black stains on the floor, and the utensils didn't look thoroughly cleaned. Our food arrived and it was not good. My picky husband ordered garlic fries, which tasted dehydrated and stale. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with eggs and bacon, no real complaints about it, it was just meh. I've been going to the Walnut Creek Mel's since I was a kid. So, when I saw Mel's was opening up in Solano County, I was there opening week. We've since visited twice and I have to say I am very disappointed. Last night, we were seated right away. This was good news since we were all very hungry. Our party ordered one appetizer, two shakes, a kid's meal and two entrees. I advised the waitress we were very hungry so to please bring the kid's meal as soon as it was ready. We got our appetizer - garlic fries- and the kid's meal very quickly. Next out came the shakes, which had no whipped cream or cherries. The food runner mentioned they ran out of whipped cream when she dropped the shakes off, which was disappointing to my daughter and husband (who love whipped cream). More on that later. While we were waiting for our food, we noticed there was only one table busser, while several people were standing around at the host stand doing nothing. There were always 5-7 tables needing clearing the entire time we were there. We then waited an extraordinarily long time for our food - more than 40 minutes. At this point, we were ready to cancel our order. My husband asked and was told it would be right out. It was another 5+ minutes until our food came out. My food, the San Francisco Scramble (also known as the Joe's Special), was a bit cold. Also, it is supposed to have ground beef and it had about two to three tablespoons of ground beef in my estimate. Perhaps they "ran out" of that also. My husband had a burger which he said was very good. Since the food took so long, he was already starting to digest and couldn't eat it all or even begin to eat his curly fries. While our server was nice enough, probably because she feared losing her tips from tables who waited too long for food (a shame as it was not her fault), we felt like the $50+ bill plus tip could have been better spent most anywhere else. The only positive to the experience was that the bathrooms were very clean, which was surprising given the state of the dining room. This restaurant is sorely understaffed. Oh... the kicker was that we saw two shakes and a sundae all delivered with whipped cream and cherries while we were eating. What the heck?! We won't be back to Mel's in Fairfield. We stopped in for a quick lunch as I have never been to a Mel's Diner. The place was busy but not too crazy. We were told we would have 10 minute wait and our name was taken down. While we waited, I enjoyed looking at the decor but then I noticed there were multiple empty tables with piles of dishes and then I saw sole busser. He was very, very slow and took half our wait time to clean a four top (four person table). We were seated and our server was friendly. We ordered drinks, a sourdough burger with sweet potato fries, and a side of onion rings. The food came out fairly fast and the food was pretty good. Overall they have a few staffing kinks to work out but it's worth a trip to try out the food. read more

I haven't been to a Mel's in a number of years. We have one in Vacaville but the food and service is just terrible. I was excited to see this new spot here in Fairfield. First impressions... Got seated really fast and the place was mildly busy. Over heard one of the waitress say they are still waiting for the dinner rush. So maybe we got there just in time. Victoria our waitress was decent. I ordered a diet Coke and she brought out a regular Coke. Not a big deal... This is actually a common mistake. She brought out a correct drink pretty quick. She was attentive and followed up making sure we where taken care of and refills we good. From the time we ordered to it being served was not very long. Food was delivered hot and fresh. Didn't taste like it was sitting under a heat lamp for a extended period of time. I had ordered the meatloaf and the wife had the classic cheeseburger. Meatloaf came loaded with with mushrooms and plenty of brown gravy. Meatloaf was moist with no burnt or hard ends. I ordered a double order of mashed potatoes and they we good too. Vegetables were a bit hard... Probably could have steamed a bit longer but not terrible. Everything was well seasoned. The corn bread was good but a bit cold. That was probably my fault since it was the last piece of the meal I had eaten. Wife thought her food was good. She didn't care for the fries too much and she couldn't explain really why. Said they tasted a bit off... I tried one and said it has a garlic season too it. So maybe? The place was well lite and had a great old school vibe to it. Everything looked clean and brand new and that is probably because it is. Really thought the planes hanging from the ceiling was cool. Only bad thing I can say really is the little juke boxes are cool and all but I don't think they work right. I went to place a quarter into ours and it got stuck... I looked into it so I can either get my quarter back or push it in... It looked like there where several quarters stuck in there. Told the waitress and she said she could get the hostess to play it for us but I told her no thanks. I won't be bothering trying to feed those machines again... As I was returning my daughter called to say what we were missing the waitress acted like we were lying, there was no reason to lie just admit you forgot something. I other thing, when I returned to pick up the missing items the female that helped me was nice and then one of the males started talking to her in spanish, we first off its rude you were talking about my order saying you put the item in there, sir you did not and you .ight want to be sure the customer you are talking about doesn't speak spanish. We need a place for a group of us to gather and say farewell to a long time member who was leaving the state. Mel's was the only place to take a group meeting. We had 24 people in our group. A contract, meals and services was negotiated. We had access to TV via USB for pictures and a microphone for our MC. We had a fabulous choice of meals that even included prime rib! This place is full of liars and scammers and they all cover each other's asses to screw the customer! We tried to take our 10 year old son here for his birthday lunch, and they had a deal at the front where you sign up for their app and get $5 off your first visit and a free shake for your birthday. I wasted a lot of time signing up for that at the table and finally got the $5 off coupon. Then I asked if my son could get the milkshake for his birthday. The server said yes. Then I showed him the $5 off coupon on the app and he said to click "Contine," which started the timer to expire the coupon in an hour. At the end of the meal he didn't take the $5 off! So we told the cashier and I walked back over to tell the manager and they said you can't get a birthday shake and $5 off on the same day. So the server had lied to us! We would have made different financial decisions about our meal if he had been honest up front about that. He NEVER told us that, and because he made me start the timer on the coupon I can never use it again now! I told the manager he lied about it, and all I got was scoffing and dirty looks from a fat lady next to them behind the counter and then mansplained to by the "manager" that I couldn't get two deals in the same day. Your server should have told us that not just sneaked leaving the $5 in and hoping we didn't catch it. Stop scamming your customers out of money and ruining birthday lunches! The meal took forever to serve, and when I said I was vegan he said the vegetables even had butter on them premade. I don't understand how a place can mess an order 3 times all at once. I ordered the simplest food for my wife and I and they seem to not know how to put item on a list in a bag. I went in 3 times and the manager took all our food when one thing was messed up. They missed 1 thing in our order. They then proceeded to mess that up completely when giving it to us. Then the manager insisted on on taking all of our food back...we just need a side dish they missed then messed up. Remade. That was all we needed. We waited around for an hour trying to get food. Holy hell, when in today March 5th 2020, they knocked it out of the park. They took all the safety precautions for the Corona virus, seating patrons away from each other and all staff were wearing masks. Came in for a quick bite and was seated promptly. I ordered an egg, cheese and turkey sausage sandwich on sourdough and roasted potatoes. It could have been that I was extremely hungry however this was literally the best thing I've ever tasted at any Mel's diner. It was so good I'm considering stopping by again tomorrow! read more

I like Mels in general, but I was so displeased with this Fairfield location. The food was awful! We ordered a breakfast burrito without gravy, and a fish & chips basket. The eggs were flavorless, and it took our sever a reminder ( I went looking for her) to bring the salsa. There were two small fish filets, a tiny (salsa container size) of bad tasting coleslaw, and plenty of fries. The fries were the only tasty part of our meal. The service was also poor. The server was not visible, even though the restaurant wasn't at all busy. The cashier, was doodling on her coffee cup , as we looked around for the server. When we went to pay, the cashier didn't greet us. As I tried to hand her my card, she was playing with her manicure, and her ring. Never going back! read more

Last night we had the worst service we have ever had at a restaurant. When we were seated it appeared that we were seated at the only table that was clean. The restaurant was not busy, it was just that every table had not been cleared and was not cleared the entire 20 minutes we waited to be served. During the 20 minutes we waited not one person on the Mel's staff spoke to us, even after the people next to us told their server that we had been waiting a long time. The restaurant did not appear busy, and no one came by to apologize or tell us that they were short staffed. They just completely ignored us. We ended up leaving. We are Fairfield locals and are sad to say we do not plan to go back. read more

I was so excited when I found out Mel's was being opened in Fairfield. If you're familiar with the food quality and service at the Vacaville location, it's worth the extra 15 minute drive to eat there. Every time I've eaten or gotten to go food from the Fairfield location, theres been an issue. Most recently ordered a breakfast skillet in the evening, and the biscuits were so hard, it was disgusting. Who knows how old they were. My husband ordered their hot pastrami sandwich and it literally came with so little meat it didn't even cover the bun. This was a to go order so we didn't know until we were home. In past visits they have over-cooked our food, served stale food, and forgotten ingredients in an order. The price is always more than what I'd consider fair for the quality of the food. We've given a few months between each visit, this is the third time we've given them a chance and they strike out each time. From now on we'll skip Mel's or make the drive to the Vacaville location. read more

I ordered a #4, Which was 3 eggs (scrambled), 4 sausage links, hash browns and an english muffin. The hash browns didn't taste good at all, were NOT hot and seemed like they were prepared earlier in the morning and left to sit, didn't even taste like potato. The english muffin did not taste good either, basically had no fresh flavor and was slightly burnt- not even jelly made it better. I did however like the eggs & sausage, but I NEED my hash browns to taste good. My husband ordered the hot turkey sandwich and they brought it to our table WITHOUT the bread..... I walked the plate back to the counter and told them that the hot turkey sandwich was missing the bread, the best part. There was only 3 people in the whole restaurant. We were excited to eat at the newly opened Mel's by the mall. We arrived just before a rush, so we were acknowledged and seated in a timely manner. Our server was prompt to take our drink order as well as the rest of our food after we ordered. We were happy with the quality of our food, except for my one of my poached eggs that looked more like a hard boiled egg. But they quickly remade it. My only criticism would be about the person ringing us up when we were done. She barely made eye contact with us and even turned to talk with her coworker when she handed us our receipt. read more

Went in for dinner on Friday night. Server came over to take our order and seemed irritated for some reason. Very short with us. My wife ordered them I ordered and asked for extra bacon on my sandwich. She even repeated the order back. My wife got her food first mine came a couple of minutes later which was no big deal but the server basically threw my plate on the table and walked off while i said thank you. Looked at my sandwich and there was definitely not extra bacon like I ordered. I could tell it wasn't worth saying anything with whatever was going on with the server.
