There was no parking in front, a workman from Mel's Diner was holding up 2 parking spots, when I asked if they were coming out. I was told no why i responded you have 2 spaces. I was told they were going to be there long, did i have a problem. I said yes, we were looking for a park. His response was F you & F yourself. I called to Diner spoke Michael the manager who said they were not working for the Diner he apologized but the desire to go there is gone. Our first experience here was a to go order. It was supposed to be ready in 5 mins... long story short, it took a lot longer than it should have, and was incorrect when I returned home. The great thing about that whole mess was- the manager on duty made it right, and provided the best customer service I've encountered in quite a while. Returned to Mel's today for a dine-in meal. Food came our fast, delicious and hot. GM ensured everything was going well for us, which was greatly appreciated. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. I've seen the less than stellar reviews for this new place, but I'd encourage you to try it and judge for yourself, I don't think you'll be disappointed. We weren't. My husband witnessed a waiter leave the restroom without washing his hands and the manager is not adequately trained to recognize when its proper to credit a meal. The salad I ordered had so much water in it I had to pour it out (it filled the dressing container) which made my "crispy chicken" soggy and ruined my appetite and was left on the table. When this location opened in 2018 I was excited to have a new restaurant in Fairfield! My experience then was bad food, bad service and a manager that could not care less. Things have not changed one bit in 3 years! This time I ordered something that I figured they could not mess up. I ordered the Mel's fisherman's sandwich with a side of cole slaw. I ordered it to go because of covid rules. When I walked in to pick up the food it was not ready...so I waited...and waited and finally it was ready. It took me all of 2 min to get home and pull my food from the bag. The sandwich was a mess. The fish was so over cooked...the batter was hard and tasted burnt. The fish inside was shriveled up from being left in the fryer way too long. The cole slaw is lifeless. I would guess it comes premade in a bag or something. No real flavor except maybe the fake mayonnaise. The lettuce and tomato were so scorched from the fish that they were almost liquified...Gross. I threw the whole thing in the trash. I'm just not sure what is going over there but it's safe to say I won't be eating there again...ever. read more

I'll have to say. Despite the previous reviews this place got they really exceeded our expectations. We got seated right away, although they said 25 min wait, we got seated within 10. I ordered the chili cheddar omelette with a bagel/cream cheese as the side. My meal came with a choice of hashbrowns or Mel's potatoes. I chose Mel's potatoes. Now to be honest, the potatoes were not good! It tasted like they cut the potatoes up and threw them in the microwave. I loved the whole feel of the diner. The menu had a wide variety of choices. Second time here with my brother, first time was on a busy sunday and food was good and staff was very attentive and helpful. Yesterday came in and place had a few people but not overly busy, waiter barely came to our table and food looked as if it just got barely heated and plated poorly. I got the cheestake and meat looked very dry, brother got a chicken burger and with dry cold piece of chicken and a huge chunk of lettuce instead of a well fitted thin piece or 2. Excellent service and food. We ordered a sampler appetizer and it was hot fresh and everything on it was superb. My wife had a Hot turkey sandwich with the loaded Mel's fry's. The turkey was super moist and the fries were heaped with toppings. I had the cheesesteak with the Mel's chili fry's. The cheesesteak was overflowing with steak onions peppers and mushrooms. The cheese sauce was flavorful and had a slight kick to it. Our waitress was prompt courteous and very attentive the whole visit. I ordered their Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and Mel's Fries. It came with vegetables and corn bread. It was delicious! We walked in the restaurant to order to-go. The host was super friendly. Guest were seated 6 feet apart and we noticed they added an outside covered patio for outside dining. I also ordered their chocolate malt shake. The day after graduation from Armijo High school and my favorite graduates wanted to have brunch before going to the mall for a movie. I remember eating at the Mel's in Antioch several years ago and thought let's give the one in Fairfield a try. First and foremost there is a server named Kennedy who was very attentive and nice. She immediately gave menus and asked would we like a drink. I asked for cranberry juice and she brought it to me right away. My graduates wanted soda so that's what they got. We then ordered separate brunches. I got a Belgium waffle and I must say it was as if it was actually prepared in Belgium, it was so big and fluffy and had a dusting of powdered sugar on it. There was a lot of butter and syrup available so I enjoyed the sweet treat with my glass of juice. Kennedy checked in on us periodically to make sure everything was ok. Her service was beyond great. It's because of her that the experience was so nice. My graduates also enjoyed their meals and we agreed that we will definitely be back before they go off to their colleges. I suspect this will certainly be one of our go to places during the summer vacation. On my way out I thanked Kennedy for the perfect experience. She was very gracious and smiled big and encouraged us to come see her again. Yes ma'am, you will be seeing myself and my favorite young ladies in your establishment again. I would recommend all the graduates of 2022 and beyond to come here. After brunch we had a nice time at the theater. They wanted to see Top Gun Maverick. I'm very glad we took the opportunity to spend some time in Fairfield together. It's nice that Mel's was a part of our epic day. Today I ate at Mel's dinner for the first time with my family. We were supposed to eat else where but the wait time was to long so we decided to try Mel's. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was the best I have had in a long time. The restaurant was clean and organized and our server Ashley was excellent!!! Ashley was so nice and attentive to our table. Visited the diner at about 8 PM and it was my first time there. Breakfast food was available so i ordered the Hangover II. i have never seen biscuits so hard in my life. I literally couldn't even cut them with a knife. I gave up and simply took them Off the plate. The bacon was unusually dry like they were Cooked in a dehydrator. The breakfast gravy had chives in it, that's strange but whatever. Potatoes sausage Links were good tho. Service was decent. Had a birthday celebration for a boy turning 18 on Saturday May 4 at brunch time. The staff was helpful and the food was good. All the food was delivered piping hot and as we ordered it: even to "soft scrambled" eggs and sunny side up. Mel's Potatoes continue to be a great breakfast offering. read more

I'm not sure what the 5 star reviews ordered, but I can give nothing but 1 and I want to punch the computer because I can't give none. Well, my mom and I went here for a Valentines Day lunch and ordered the steak and shrimp with a side of fries vegetables and clam chowder. Wow, I ordered my steak medium and my mother ordered hers well done. Both came out looking watery and not fully cooked with white uncooked fat on them both. It looked as though they stemmed them. The fried shrimps were laying in the steak and vegetables water that was in a puddle on my plate so they were soggy fried shrimp. The worse part was the clam chowder. It was very watery and tasted very off, it had no flavor, and not much in it other than water. I tasted like old hot bath water with an old clam floating in it. Just horrible. I had about 2 teaspoons of it before I knew it was really bad quality. My mom had a bit more than me. Well, needless to say, my mother came down with a horrible food poisoning (the second new restaurant that we've gone to in the past month that given someone food poisoning) that last 2 days including the trembles, stomach issues and feeling lightheaded. I noticed a bit of sick feelings myself, but since I did not eat as much, I was not as sick as she was. On a good note, the staff was nice, although my waitress forgot straws, drinks, and paper napkins and I had to keep calling her over to bring those items and she kept apologizing. My wife and I are locals at our Mel's diner in Folsom, so when we went to Fairfield, we stopped at Mel's for lunch. The restaurants are pretty much the same - great retro decor, nice and clean, good food - but the reason we're regulars is because we get great service. At the Fairfeild Mel's we were taken care of by Shawna and Vona, and they were friendly, responsive, and wonderful. If I lived in the area, I'd be a regular there and I'd ask for the same team to serve us. If we visit again, we'll definitely dine at Mel's, and we'll ask for Shawna and Vona. read more

I ordered for pick up and they said done in 11 mins. I arrived on time and called when I got here. Called again after 15 mins and got put on hold for another 10 just for them to forget I was on hold. Called again and 30 mins since I originally got here my food comes out. Everything is soggy/mushy. The fries, onion rings, and wings are all ruined and they said they would check it before bringing it out to me since it had been so long. Worst service ever. My friend and I went to lunch here today at 11:45am. We got what we had ordered on a previous visit: San Francisco​ Scramble. Last month it was very delicious with plenty of spinach, hamburger and eggs. The potatoes were also yummy. When our order​ arrived today, we noticed it seemed to be half the size that it was last time. As we began to eat it, we remarked how tasteless the scramble and the potatoes were.
