Where do I begin? I'll start by saying our first visit to The Original Pancake House, a year or so ago, was very pleasant. We had to wait for nearly a half hour to be seated, but the wait was worth it. Our visit yesterday was not at all the same. My wife and I arrived just after noon on Sunday and there was not only no wait, but the restaurant was also only about half full. That should have clued us in to the fact that things were not good at The Original Pancake House. Let's start with the "Fresh Vegetarian Omelette," which didn't look or taste like any omelette my wife had ever seen or eaten. It was a puffy brown blob filled with broccoli, tomatoes and cheese of some sort, but no mushrooms were to be found. She found the broccoli to be tasty, but that was it. The three pancakes were nothing to write home about, being a bit undercooked and therefore a bit doughy. My pancakes were the same. Looked pretty, but a bit doughy on the inside. I ordered the ham and eggs and must say that the eggs, which were supposed to be "over hard and broken," seemed to be more like the eggs found in a McDonald's Egg McMuffin. I'm not knocking the Egg McMuffin, but that wasn't what I ordered. The ham was tasty in the middle but was extra crispy (a bit burnt) around the edges. With so many good places to eat breakfast in Bend, I foresee no future for The Original Pancake House. As IHOP found, you won't survive in Bend on name alone. read more

As a critical care RN, who works night shifts from 7pm-7:30 am, I was EXTREMELY dissatisfied with the "service" (if you want to call it that), that I received the morning of February 10th, around 8am. I had just gotten off an extremely stressful 12.5 hour shift, and had planned to meet 2 people there for a quick breakfast before I had to go back to sleep for my next 12.5 hour shift. I got there at 7:45 and was told I was not going to be seated until my other 2 guests arrived as this was a "manager policy". I took a seat in the waiting area, and at this time the restaurant had maybe 5 tables sat down eating. From 7:45-8, I watched as over 10 tables were sat before me because their parties were all there. Again.. I had another 12 hour shift I need to sleep for, and as someone who worked for YEARS in the restaurant industry as a server, I knew that this would no longer be the quick breakfast that I needed and wanted. I also have traveled around the world and have never been refused a table because my party was not all there- this policy is very stupid- and I watched as a party of 4 was sat before me because they decided to lie about the 5th person "maybe not coming" so that they could sit down because they were tired of waiting. Around 8, I kindly asked to speak to the manager so I could beg her to sit down so I could at least order a drink (I love the hot coco). I was met with attitude from the server I asked to speak to the manager- her words "she wants to speak to the manager because her whole party isn't here and she wants to sit down"- all she needed to say was "she would like to speak to you when you get a second". Prior to begging the manager, I also pleaded with this server let me sit down so I could order a drink, as I had just gotten off a long shift, and was again told no "manager policy". When talking to the manager I was tearing up, begging to sit down, and again was rudely turned down by the store manager. The workers that I encountered had absolutely no empathy for healthcare workers, and an overall bad attitude towards me once I was sat with my party. The manager ended up "serving" my table, and was very short towards us with a hostile tone. We ended up paying for one coffee and waking out. I love the food here, but I'm not sure if I am willing to give my service to people who don't care about the people that serve their communities. read more

This place was soo good!!! I got the Dutch baby with a side of whipped cream and lignion berries, kids got biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon, husband ordered hash with pancakes. Consistently good, traditional breakfast fare. We've tried a variety of menu items including omelets, pancakes, Joe's eggs and the delicious mushroom Benedict. The omelets are very fluffy with a uniquely delicate "crust" since they use a special pan. The mushroom sauce is delectable but packs a high calorie count. Service is always above average. read more

Original Pancake House in Bend, Oregon is a good option-- if you don't care at all about your health. The restaurant serves up a nice variety of ultra high fat, ultra high sugar, salty food that is all very low in nutrition. That's fine because that's how people in Central Oregon like to "shorten their lives through dining out." The problem is that Original Pancake House doesn't really offer much for people who want to be even slightly healthy. I encouraged the manager to consider adding one or two healthier alternatives to their menu... and the response was laughter. So when I go to Original Pancake House in Bend, Oregon, I eat oatmeal. Still, it remains a good option for those seeking diabetes and weight gain. read more

On a very cold Father's Day morning our granddaughter wanted the best pancakes in Bend. She was right! So crowded after being told there would be a 90 minute wait we chose to sit outside in 50 degree weather . Best blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes ever and 6 pancakes in a stack! bacon was perfectly cooked and crisp. Service was excellent considering we were 1 of 3 tables out there. This place was good. Wait wasn't too long even for Sunday at a peak time. Service was slow; however in this day and time of being understaffed I completely understand. Knocked one star off for one thing. This is a pancake house and they don't have real maple syrup! I would even pay an up charge for real maple syrup as opposed to a bunch of corn syrup! Great bacon. Whenever I come here I order an extra side of bacon. Their food is very consistently good and they have great service too. We've been here a lot of times and always have a good experience whether it's just 2 or up to 12 people. I'm not a big fan of chains so haven't been to any other locations but can definitely attest to this location being great. If you're in the search for a non fancy but consistently good breakfast that usually has a lot of locals this is your spot. read more

I've been coming here regularly for 15 years and am continually impressed by their consistency and friendly staff. They've got many different types of pancakes to choose from, and you can order any of the specialty pancakes as your side pancakes for a small additional fee. Their bacon is not to be missed! It is thick cut and has great flavor. It's the best bacon I've found in any restaurant in town. They open early and tend to get crowded starting around 8 on the weekends. They turn tables pretty quickly, so even when it is crowded I've never had to wait more than about 15 minutes for a table for four. Lastly, the employees here are great! I have always loved the Pancake House and have been coming to this location since I was a kid so I am honestly very bummed out to have to leave a negative review. Yesterday, my sister and I and a couple of her friends decided to get a late breakfast around 1:00 PM. Because the restaurant closes at 2:00 PM, we thought that we would have no issues and could have a nice sit-down breakfast in the welcoming atmosphere that has existed here for as long as I can remember. There were no problems to begin with, we arrived, were immediately greeted by the hostesses, and directed to a table. However, as soon as the waiter came to the table the entirety of our party started to feel put off by his behavior. Right off the bat, our waiter did not even bother to introduce himself or greet us and just asked if we knew what we were having. I'll admit, although this was a little strange, this does not sound crazy abnormal because waiters/waitresses are always busy running around attending to their customers needs. But this waiter seemed to not care to have any sort of courtesy, let alone try and provide decent customer service, and I will say that everyone in our party agreed that he was giving off a weird vibe. He asked us what we wanted to drink and when he got around to my sister, she asked if they had strawberry lemonade or just normal lemonade, the waiter replied with a harsh "Nope" and then said, "We are actually out of lemonade so pick something else". So my sister chose something else he just walked away after saying "Okay". Weird. Another couple minutes go by and he returns with our drinks and then asks if we know what we want to eat yet. I was not ready so I let the rest of the party order before me while I was still deciding. After everyone else had ordered and he was ready for me, I was looking at the menu and didn't realize he was ready to take my order until he started waving his hand in my face and saying "Hello". I apologized and he just replied with "What do you want?", I asked for crepes and he looked at me and asked "What crepes?" in a rather rude and unfriendly manner. So I apologized again and told him which ones barely before he could take the menu out of my hands, grab the rest and leave. Whatever just a rude guy right. Another few minutes go by and I got up to go grab my purse from the car because I had forgotten it. When I returned to the table our food had come out but the checks were already sitting on the table. I was confused because we had only been here for about 20ish minutes. I asked my sister if she had asked for the bills while I was gone and she said no, that the waiter brought them with the food and said, "Not to rush you or anything". I was a little bit weirded out by this because what if someone had wanted to order something else? Again, whatever, it was annoying but we ignored it and continued our breakfast. The bills here now have a QR code that you can scan to pay online and tip, leave a review, etc., and we payed then just to get it done. Now maybe five minutes later, the waiter returns, I assumed to check on us and see how everything was, but I was very wrong. He looks at me and said "Can I run the payment now, I want to go eat", and by this I was very surprised. My sister replied saying that we had already paid online and he just walked away without saying anything else. It was clear that the whole time this man had better things to do and more important places to be while on shift and treated myself and the rest of my party with complete disregard and an obvious lack of respect or hospitality. We finished eating and got up and left but not without a sick feeling in my stomach for the way we had just been serviced. I feel sour writing this review because since I was a child, I would come here with my family and we would receive the best service from the once warm and friendly staff which kept us returning for years. I did not expect this time to be any different but I felt that writing a review was necessary because this experience so vastly contrasted my previous experiences and it left me and my friends feeling frustrated and nothing short of disappointed. read more

Wowee, this place is a find, and loved everything about it! It was Christmastime when I was there for breakfast, and I felt like I was in a Christmas Hallmark movie - it was snowing outside, the fireplace was on, the decor was charming and old fashioned, the waitresses were attentive and wore matching uniforms, the other customers were all happy, and it just all had a sense of pride, warmth, and happiness. We have tried several breakfast spots in Bend but from now on we go to OPH every day we're in town. It's clean & tidy, service is prompt and efficient, and everything we've tried on the menu has been above average to great. Favorites include Dutch baby, apple crepes,and pigs in blankets. When not too hungry we usually share a meal and they're happy to do this for us. Their only possible weakness is their coffee; it's just diner coffee, nothing special, but as my dad used to say there's only two kinds of coffee, good coffee & better coffee. read more

This place was perfect for us! We had a large group of 14 and even with a group of that size and a packed restaurant on a Sunday morning the wait was still not too bad. The prices seemed a little high but they made sense when the food came out and we saw how big the portions were (everything comes with its own plate of pancakes). Everybody knows the pancake house it is a location every one has tried. I figured it was my turn. It did not match the hype that everyone says. Our waitress was very pushy and kind of rude to us when questions were asked the presentation n of the food was probably 4/10 it looked like it was just thrown onto the plate. The portions were rather small not that it's a bad thing it really just surprised me for the price. So for two people we paid 30$ for an egg scramble and some small pancakes. They food was good however just seemed completely overrated. I could have gone to IHOP and got the same quality.
