Food Quality: I had coffee, pigs in a blanket and a side of bacon. It was good. Environment: Its clean, but I'm not sure what the these is. The women are dressed like nurses from the 1900's, the booths are from the 1980's and there are plates on the wall reminiscent of grandma's house. Found this place nearby to our hotel through yelp! Thank you yelp for coming through on the great recommendations for eatery's around bend. My party and I walked in around 1030am and the place was pretty full, but we were lucky to get a seated within 5 minutes. I ordered a waffle plus a fruit crepe and it was one of the best fruit crepes I've ever eaten. The waffle was super tasty and I kept telling my wife how the batter is a little more tastier than most waffles I've eaten back in California. My wife had the omelette and she kept raving about the sauce on top of the omelette. We had a really good breakfast here which helped start our day right. Because of a couple pictures I saw of the omelettes on here and the prices weren't high($17 for a big meal at black bear diner) I thought it would be SMALL portions. There is no Big meal on the menu, that's because the portion are big!! But not expensive. Two big guys shared a omelet, half order biscuit and gravy, and a waffle. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING. Omelette was big and packed with meet, fluffy and crisp. Biscuit and gravers was fresh and amazing. Coffee some some of the best I have had at a restaurant. Waffle crisp. They have a big fluffy crispy thin pancake called a dutch baby it has a hint of citrus TRY ONE!!!! Found this place based on a recommendation of a good friend. Turned out to be the perfect breakfast place in Bend. Nobody does pancakes better!! The servers are just fantastic, always a welcoming smile and willing to make recommendations. The restaurant is "hospital clean" because all the employees take great pride in their job. My personal favorites are the sourdough flapjacks, the corned beef hash and the Dutch Baby pancake. Ken and Betsy own this restaurant and it is ALL THAT and a bag of chips! We've been to several other Pancake Houses and this one is the best by far. The staff are always gracious and they greet you by name. The service is exceptionally fast (although the wait to be seated can be up to 20 min because this place is the best in town!) I highly recommend you get the signature buttermilk pancakes and their fresh squeezed orange juice. The flavors are top notch. I promise you WILL be stuffed when you leave. The ambiance is quaint and clean; lots of room for everyone to sit comfortably. Visit on a less popular day, like a weekday, and there will be no wait. We visit often because these guys know how to run a successful restaurant and keep that hometown, Bend, atmosphere! Would have liked instructions on how to eat the Dutch baby but I eventually figured it out. The restaurant was very clean and bright and the staff and service was excellent. I usually don't seek out many chain restaurants, except when traveling and there's no other better options, like in a business park or on the road in a hurry. However, this TOPH, located on a ridge above River/Farewell Bend parks, does a great job for what they offer and present themselves as, which is traditional home style, hearty and fresh favorites, with some unexpected and more creative items as well. This place is way above any Denny's, Elmers, easily any IHOP or Applebee's, especially Bend's/ Redmond's branches :(anything is; don't risk those two here at all ), or other such standard American brunch spots. You will wait, they're geared up for turnover without rushing people, so to me it's worth it. There isn't a lot of waiting space though. They're efficient, overall friendly and helpful, and it's a cozy country wood cabin kitchen feel, decorated with many travel plate souvenirs. Here, pancakes are always fluffy and flavorfull, never rubbery or under cooked, and there's many types to choose from; you can't go wrong with any, even the buckwheat or cornmeal, which some places cant make soft. The thick cut, quality bacon is always cooked perfectly, never swimming with grease, not dryly petrified/pulverized into jerky texture or scorched/burned, and flattened so evenly, there's no blobs of semi bubbly fat to eat around; you can enjoy its wonderfully melded texture. The long bacon looks as good as it tastes; I always get enough to take home for wonderful BLT's, or to add to anything. I take home most of the pancakes too, they're like a dessert to me, the tropical syrup is better than marmalade, and the main meal is so filling already. For that, I enjoy the Ever Popular Joe, the ground sausage, fresh spinach and onion scramble; sometimes I add the green salsa verde to spice it up. It's consistently tasty, evenly cooked, and filling; I hardly need to eat much later! The hash brown cubes aren't meant to be exciting; just mix them into the protein if you want. Nor is the coffee blend special. I don't think you can get real maple syrup either. TOPH isn't known for those things. They do have fresh squeezed OJ though! read more

Love me some OPH!! Nom, nom, nom..... I've been to several different Original Pancake Houses across the country (most not yelped), and this one was as scrumptious as the rest. Lemme just say that I like my bacon extra crisp, as I don't like the grease or the grizzle. Typically my bacon at other restaurants comes out like charcoal - - and that's okay with me, cause i just don't want the grease. But OPH -- man, they have extra crisp down to a science! As far as I'm concerned, they should get a Pulitzer Prize for it or something... The bacon here is extra crisp, no grease, yet fantastically there's actually a chewability to it AND flavor! You mean, I can taste my bacon too?? And... (despite my photo) it actually is not burnt. TY!! I always have a hard time deciding what I want to eat here - -cause I love it all. By far the star of the pancakes is the colossal Apple Pancake. This delicious baked concoction takes up a whole plate, and arrives oven hot and puffed into a mountain of cinnamon apples and fluffy pancake. The bacon is thick cut, honey cured, and very tasty! The Crapes come with delicious sauces. On our visit, I had the Kijafa Cherry Crapes. The cherry portion was generous (no rationing of bites needed), with a delicious sauce. The Crapes had a delicious delicate texture, and were never rubbery. The service was also outstanding, with waitresses floating to and fro offering coffee, water, tea, and assistance if required. The restaurant itself is decorated country kitchen style, with a cute decorative shelf lining the entire upper wall, featuring fancy plates from all over. The restaurant space is large enough that it can accommodate larger parties, and should handle rushes much better than some of the smaller places in town. Stopped at Bend for a couple this days and luckily found this spot. It was so good, we had to come back for a second day. We tried the Eggs Benedict, Corn Beef Hash, pumpkin pancakes and the Dutch Baby. We wouldn't change anything in any of the meals. All meals were perfectly cooked and delicious. She connected with us, was fun, and her service was perfect, from refilling our coffee often and serving us promptly and beautifully. She was also aware of when not to interrupt us at various times. Called in to put a reservation in and they told me it was gonna be a 30 minute wait and they would put my name down. I walked in to see what the wait after the 30 minutes was up. They said it was gonna be another 20 minutes and gave me a pager. After 30 minutes I called back in to see what the wait was looking like and a disgruntled worker answered the phone and said ,"were very busy and it's not like we can shove food down peoples throats." The food is fantastic, despite the calorie count (don't look at it), but Ashley's genuine kindness and fabulous personality makes the entire experience unforgettable.
