The only thing keeping the lights on was our server Vivian, who somehow managed to be warm, gracious, and attentive while basically running the whole floor solo. She deserves a standing ovation (and probably a raise). Now, the food... yikes. I almost never give two-star reviews, but this was rough. Pancakes that taste like baking soda, "banana chocolate chip" that really meant "sprinkled on top and hope you don't notice," and everything fried in oil so cheap it left its calling card in every bite. It's not that the meal was pricey--it's that it wasn't worth any price. Money down the drain. Sure, kids eat free here. But when even your toddler turns up their nose at pancakes, you know you've hit a new low. Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else. Dirt and mold on near air vents. Asked manager if he's the manager, he said yes, i just pointed up so he could acknowledge the lack of care to cleaning the air vents and ceilings, he looks up really quick, turns his back does not say one word and walks straight back to the kitchen. I don't want nothing for free. Just trying to help all the patrons not have to breathe in mold but this guy could care less. Toilet #1 occupied, toilet # 2 has a broken lock. I had to go so i moved the garbage can in front to block the door for my privacy. I wonder how long the lock has been broken for. Maybe we should ask the manager with the white pony tail. The breakfast menu is extensive, and the food is served in a timely manner. It is the only place locally that I can order Swedish pancakes, which are like a crêpe. And they are made exactly like they should be. The servers are friendly and professional, and always explain the details of the various breakfast dishes and can customize your order. I have been fortunate to sit with April whenever I go there and she is extremely helpful and professional. My husband's gluten-free pancakes were good, but my "regular" blueberry pancakes were chewy and tough, and I was also disappointed that they don't offer a "short stack" option. Love OPH they actual know how to make pancakes right. Most places use biscquick which is an all purpose flower not pancake mix. Eggs are always cooked correctly not browned or overcooked basically the best breakfast place you can go to that's a chain. It's a breakfast place so ambience? What a joke. Truly the management staff here could not care less about its customers. Insanely long waits, open tables, backed up kitchens and the manager doesn't care. Instead of seating people and apologizing the manager said "make em wait". To be clear the time and date is December 29th at 1152. Waiting nearly 45 minutes for a table of 3 adults and 2 kids. Tons of open seats. If management is this careless with staffing and customer service you have to worry about his lack of attention in the kitchen. Stay far away. read more

I have been a loyal customer of THE ORIGINAL PANCAKE HOUSE for over 55 years. The OPH in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI is absolutely wonderful. Five stars all the way around. The franchise in Delray is absolutely terrible. The menu, quality and pricing is pretty poor. I don't know why?? If you have any expectations for this OPH make them pretty low. The Delay property is just another run of the mill pancake restaurant. Nothing special. The OPH in Grosse Pointe is and has been a wonderful treat. I bring my autistic son here 2-3x per week. It's expensive and 30-min from home but one of only 2 places he will eat. The wait staff is delightful - couldn't be kinder or more accommodating. Occasionally, the chocolate chip pancakes are overcooked. Mostly we overlook it and he just doesn't eat them all. Recently, we alerted the staff of an overcooked order and asked they remake them, emphasizing that my son likes them soft and fluffy (usually what one expects out of pancakes anyway). After probably 10 more visits (ordering the same exact thing and being served by the same staff each time), again, the pancakes were overdone and actually crispy in some areas. We tried to pull those pieces out and he tried to eat as much as he could but I then (not wanting to throw away $14.50 again) told the staff that once again they were way overcooked. We asked if they could just remake two of the three, since he had eaten some. Clearly agitated, the manager immediately appeared with the plate in hand complaining that we had sent them back one other time and that if this were to happen again we should alert them right away because "now that (we) cut them up we can't give them to someone else." He was obviously very upset. I explained that my son didn't know until he started eating them and that we tried to just get past it. The manager still had not agreed to remake any, so I asked again if he could just remake two. He went on chastising on how wasteful this was and that we needed to specify when we ordered that we wanted them soft if we wanted to be able to continue to come and not have problems. It sounded like he was alluding to refusing to serve us. In disbelief, I asked him to clarify if he was implying that they would refuse to serve us in the future. I explained that my son has autism and a host of sensory issues and that it is hard for him to eat crispy, dried out food. I said that there was another restaurant in the area that went out of their way to try to accommodate him, knowing how challenging it is having this disorder and so many food restrictions. His response was that they (OPH) were a "private" restaurant and could refuse whoever they felt necessary. I am extremely offended and saddened that such a well-known, otherwise-friendly restaurant would treat a loyal, special needs person who regularly patronized them, with such disrespect, insensitivity and disregard. In my opinion, this is absolutely DISCRIMINATORY behavior. We now may be down to only one restaurant to ever eat at. read more

The food, and service, was, for a breakfast/pancake house, excellent. If I had any complaint it would be that the food provided on my ordered omelet was way too plentiful. My Western Omelet was huge and delicious and came with 3 large pancakes served with what tasted like real maple syrup. We passed by the other day and knew we had to try this when our daughter got into town. It was a great idea. We all wanted to try a few things and share them all. We knew we all wanted to try the Dutch baby (we forgot to tell them to bring out the other items first so they plan the meal around the DB 30 min timing - makes sense). We sampled those, Swedish pancakes ( we are all used to lighter versions ) these were cooked crispier with a different taste / texture then we have had before. We all liked them. We also got a simple Belgian waffle - it was cooked perfectly. I had my piece just the way I like it. Butter and whipped cream - no syrup. We had plenty left over for tomorrow! read more

This is our new favorite!! We wish we had one of these where we live in central Florida! I had the eggs Benedict and my husband had a spinach crepe. Both were excellent. The hollandaise sauce is house made. It is wonderful! We both got the shredded hash browns!(crispy) and they were cooked perfectly. No greasiness! The crepe was especially good. I have been coming to this location for over 10 years and always order the same thing! Ok first they have a machine which squeezes fresh orange juice to order. It starts the party in your mouth! I come specifically for the potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream. They are thin with grated potato and slightly crispy from the grill. They are more like a Hanukkah latke but thinner. And every deli thinks a giant deep fried oversized hash brown is a potato pancake. Too greasy and heavy and no amount of applesauce and sour cream can save it! The service has always been good but avoid Sunday mornings unless you've got a lot of patience. read more

I don't go to The Original Pancake House often, but normally, when I do, it's with my Dad and the food is solid. On my recent excursion, I met up with him and my Stepmother for a little breakfast. I ordered the oven-baked ham & cheese omelet, which I was told by the waitress would take 20 minutes because it was a specialty item. I didn't think an ham & cheese omelet was a specialty item, but ok. Granted it didn't take 20 minutes for them to make that, but they should have waited to put in the orders for my Dad and Stepmom to coincide with serving mine. As a result, my Stepmom's waffle came out cold, and needed to be re-heated. The waitress seemed a little annoyed to do this, but she went ahead and got it heated. Additionally, I didn't like when she was refilling the coffee mugs, she leaned over to the point where her sleeve was practically touching where my side plate of pancakes were sitting on the table. Needless to say, I wasn't that pleased with the service, but my omelet was fluffy and scrumptious, so at least there's that. The side of buttermilk pancakes were pretty good -- the side I ate anyway. The omelet was probably the fluffiest and most satisfying I've had in a while. While the restaurant doesn't offer iced coffee per say, where they brew and have a pitcher chilled ready for serving, I still was able to order some where they took hot coffee and poured it in a cup of ice and added more so it would be cold. While it was cold, I wasn't fond of the coffee they brew. Granted, this is no the Breakers, so you can't expect anything great, but I found the coffee pretty watered down. Still got caffeinated after three or four glasses. They're located in a convenient spot on Federal just south of Linton Boulevard, and parking is plentiful on at least three sides of the building. If you don't get anything that's baked and will need "20-30 minutes", you should be in and out of there fairly easily with a full stomach. Even if they say it will be that long for one of the oven-baked orders, depending on the dish, it won't take as long as advertised unless they are slammed. While there was steady traffic on this particular Sunday, there weren't any delays. Anyway, if you are in the area and need a reliable breakfast fix, they will do. read more
