The Original Pancake House is becoming harder and harder to find these days, so whenever I'm near one, I get excited. It's one of those places that brings back good memories, and I'm always happy to stop in. We came on July 3rd, the day before a major holiday, fully expecting a long wait because the place was packed. To our surprise, since it was just the two of us, we were seated in about three minutes while larger parties waited. That was a great start to our visit. The avocado toast was perfection. Serving it on toasted sourdough bread was exactly the right choice. Simple, fresh, and full of flavor. Their coffee also hit the spot... although I have one tiny complaint--no Splenda! Ugh! But that's just a minor inconvenience. A little sugar never hurt anybody... well, sort of! I also ordered the corned beef hash, and it absolutely delivered. Great flavor, cooked just right, and definitely something I'd order again. I left full and completely satisfied. Our waitress was fun, friendly, and very attentive, which always makes the dining experience even better. Before leaving, I couldn't resist buying one of their coffee mugs (see photo). Was $20 a little pricey for a mug? Probably. Did I buy it anyway? Absolutely! Sometimes you just have to treat yourself. Another great visit to one of my favorite breakfast spots. Came in on a Friday around 9 for breakfast with my two kids and the place was sparsely occupied. We were in and out in under 45 minutes which was fantastic. We had a side of grits, a kids pancake special and the minced ham and scrambled eggs with pancakes. This was $50, which is steep, but everyone loved their food and cleaned their plates, so I will take it! The menu is large, so pretty much anyone can find something that they will enjoy. I ordered buckwheat pancakes with peaches on top and my wife, Sheryl, ordered french toast. The food was very bland with flavors only from toppings. My wife asked for no strawberry preserves, and wished she had gotten them afterwards. There are many breakfast places in area and will go there vs. this location. The service was poor at best and coffee cup ran empty several times. We are sure but both of us had the quick step after our meal here and this place was the only common denominator. I really like this place a lot. Almost always busy. I really enjoy their food. They have different styles of pancakes. Thick cut bacon is very good. I really like to get their corned beef cooked crispy. The place is always clean. Never had a bad meal there. I have few issues with the place. Some of the staff isn't as good as others (chalk that up to being new or it's just busy.) The decaf is not good. The regular coffee is fine. They often don't give you spoons for the coffee. They are not open for dinner. (That's it. I told you very few issues.) Ask for the tropical syrup for your pancakes. It's like an orange marmalade sauce. read more

Something as simple as bacon and eggs was just bland. I couldn't believe it. My dad had an omelet that was not very good; he's old and cranky so I had to listen to him complain about his eggs and toast while I tried to force down my own food. My sister had an omelet as well, with cheese. She didn't like her food either. She could not find the cheese until the end, when she finally found it as a small clump in a corner. Outstanding food. I have been here several times but this last time was over the top delicious. Service is always great as is the clean, bright atmosphere. We had an omelette w pancakes and a French toast combo. The omelettes are super fluffy and very good. The pancakes are out of this world moist and perfect flavor with the soft whipped butter. I want to share with you that I have been a huge fan and visit your locations in different cities. I had a friend in town and we drove 45min so she could taste what I thought was the best apple pancake. What a disappointment. It was smaller than normal, doughy, limited apples and no apples on part of the pancake. Also,very little cinnamon topping. I mentioned it to the waitress and her response was...is it doughy, we've been hearing that. I responded, I had two pieces and there was one apple slice on each piece and pointed to all the visible dough. She said she'd tell her manager but the manager never came to the table. No offer to have another one made or to discount the bill. It was embarrassing that you would serve your signature dish like that. I am very disappointed in the apple pancake, the fact that you didnt offer to make another one and that the assistant manager never came to the table. A 5 for food quality, a 3 for service and a 2 for ambience. The spinach, feta, tomato and jalapeno omelette was amazing and enough for 2 meals. Service was just ok- we had to frequently hunt down a server for coffee even though the restaurant wasn't that crowded. As for the ambience, the lighting is nearly blinding it's so bright. I've had surgeri in the past and even the operating rooms weren't that bright and sterile. It certainly doesn't create a comforting morning atmosphere. Been here about 6 times since they opened and there's always something that goes wrong I'm finally writing about it so this is a collective review. Today, my omelette that came out was not the one I ordered so my mom ate her breakfast while I waited for the correct one The server was apologetic as expected but as a matter of customer service, our bill should have been discounted a bit. Moreover, the charming part of the restaurant is the front part adjacent to the road. Much to our surprise it was roped off for staffing reasons. I get that but they have the wrong part of the restaurant roped off. Why not avoid sitting people next to the restrooms and kitchen entrance instead? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you're not sitting people in, what many would surely agree, the most cozy part of the restaurant. The food here is really good so that keeps us coming back. I also realize things are upside down a bit still from the pandemic but, with the exception of the grand opening week kinks, this place is still fumbling the ball. Wait: Waitlist is only at the desk; We we're quoted 30min but only took 15min; they notify you by text so you flip not have to sit in the lobby. Cleanliness: Restaurant floor, booths/tables and silverware were very clean. Atmosphere: The restaurant is new and looks to have a modern farmhouse type vibe. The coffee mugs and water glasses are cool. Service: Our waiter was prompt and took our drink order almost as soon as we sat down. He also followed up with subsequent tables visits to fill up the coffee. He never filled up the water cups though. Food: The food was very good. I had eggs over easy, bacon and pancakes. The eggs were cooked as ordered, the bacon was thick and amazing and the pancakes were cooked perfect with a good flavor. Price: Little pricey for breakfast. Im so happy we have a new Pancake house close by. We loved the food and the our waitress was the best. The only down part of our visit was that we were a large group of people 7 of us and we kept seeing people coming and going for almost 30min until finally they sat us in two separate tables. There are definitely other ways to handle this. Tables can be moved, how hard it is to do that. Anyhow, I hope they get better with that and this will be our favorite restaurant. First off let me start by saying how and why in the heck does this place have only 3 stars?!?!? My family and I had breakfast here earlier this morning I'd say around 8:30ish or so and it wasn't too busy just yet, seemed more like it started getting busy around 9:30, actually started getting a wait. The restaurant looked great inside, decorated nice, looked very clean, just nice decor all around! We got seated right away and our waitress took our drink order quickly and not too long after that she took our meal orders. She did a great job bringing us anything we needed, didn't have to ask for anything! I got the Bacon & Eggs which came with pancakes as well, all of it was very delicious I also loved the syrup, I'm usually not a fan of runny syrup but their's was tasty, the bacon was thick and so good! My wife and kids enjoyed their meals as well! If we are ever in the area again this will definitely be the place we stop in for breakfast, I highly recommend this restaurant for your next breakfast! read more

Tried to come on a Sunday at 10am and there was a line out the door. Instead of waiting decided to have a Pho breakfast instead, but came back the next day and wasn't disappointed. So this spot was a Bakers Square for many years, and before THAT, a Poppin' Fresh pie. ( am I revealing my age??LOL) Anyhoo, there's lots of history in the building, but the OPH is holding its own. Ordered food to go. Mushroom omelette was missing the mushroom sauce and the ham and cheese omelette had ham, sausage, bacon, and cheese. With all that extra added cured meats the omelette was too salty. I'd recommend dining in that way if things are wrong you can get it fixed there. Been here a handful of times as my husband LOVES the 49'er flapjacks. The pancakes are great! The best pancakes of any breakfast spot I have visited. I ordered the ham and cheddar omelet with a side of wheat toast and pancakes. Would give it 5 stars; however, the omelets are nowhere near as good as the ones at the Original in Park Ridge. This has been consistently true. My toast was great. I like their bread. Service was great. If only they could import the omelet maker from the Park Ridge site. I have been here a handful of times since it opened simply because I live around the block. The food is mediocre and overpriced. Today is my dad's birthday so we decided to give it another shot. The coffee is terrible so I brought my own in a small, insulated coffee cup. We walked in and a joyless young woman who acts like she's running White House met us at the front and said they don't allow "outside drinks". Really? So I have to drink your shitty coffee for $5.00? Nope. We turned around and walked out. Probably just missed out on a $100+ breakfast. Had a better experience at Willow Hill a few minutes away. Don't be fooled just because the inside is updated.
