The decor is a little drab, but hungry teenagers do-not-care about decor. The tables are clean. We've been going to HB for over 20 years, never had bad service or bad food. Obviously we don't order steak from a breakfast place. Their soups are not homemade, but I wouldn't expect them to be for the price. I love this place. It's a great neighborhood place for a quick, good breakfast or lunch at a good price. The staff is friendly and familiar, and I really would like to eat there more often.... It took me a long while to right this review but my horrible experience at this establishment and with the owner keeps coming into my thoughts. I came here right before the pandemic started and had a very horrible experience. I decided to treat Me and my young child to breakfast and wanted to try this place because it was one that I've never tried yet. I ordered a breakfast for us to share since my little one is too young to need their own whole plate. The pancakes were burnt blackened on top. So I asked if we could please get some pancakes that weren't so dark as I just went through some very scary pre cancer issues, a minor stroke, and other health issues and don't like taking any chances, not to mention I don't like the taste of over cooked/burnt pancakes naturally. So they brought me back another plate exactly the same as before I was still very very polite and explained it was the same and can I please just have some toast instead. The owner man then comes up to me and my child and asked what the problem was I asked if I can have toast instead because I don't like eating burnt things because I've been dealing with cancer issues and other health problems he then gets very agitated and says absolutely not! No Way! You don't have any Cancer issues! you can go lie to someone else and leave. I was in complete and total shock. I didn't say a single word. I cried after I got my little one and myself together and left the establishment. I was already feeling horrible because being a single mother with lots of major health issues is soo very hard and scary as it is and to suffer silently with really bad physical symptoms and neurological issues and this man was one of the meanest most ignorant most unempathetic business owners I've ever met in my life. I would never recommend this place to anyone ever. Not getting a chance to leave a review earlier has been really bothering me. I was running errands this morning and remembered reading reviews here on Yelp about the friendly service and tasty food at Honey Bee so I decided to stop by for breakfast. The reviews are true, I received great service and the food and prices were very tasty and reasonable. What the reviews don't tell you is that they don't enforce any type of mask policy and the manager who rings up your order and takes you to your table is maskless. Now that we are ordering in more, this place turned out to be a great alternative to other quick breakfast delivery places. I ordered breakfast for my son and I this time. M&M Pancakes, with a side of bacon and the country biscuits and gravy platter with more bacon on the side (of course!) All the food was delicious, and the portions were very generous too! I needed breakfast desperately this morning. And since there was no food in my refrigerator and someone had told me about this place- I headed over to the Honey Bee Cafe. While on the outside- this place looks like a little house- on the inside it reminded me of those diners up north in Wisconsin- lots of Formica-ed booths, and a menu that has at least 6 pages with everything from breakfast to burgers to steak. A typical Greek diner. The service was good considering our waitress had just encountered two of the most annoying customers who were complaining that they were charged 50 cents for some change to their order. They then commented loudly that they were not going to leave a tip to "show her". That had our waitress so upset that she told my friend at least three times that if he wanted three kinds of fruit on his yogurt that there was going to be an extra charge. What makes me crazy is taking it out on the waitress when she doesn't set the policies. The food was just okay. My eggs Benedict was covered in the most fake looking hollandaise sauce ever- but once I scraped that off, the Canadian bacon under it was delicious. My friend's yogurt came with the requested fruit although the strawberries looked like they had been around for a while. The hash browns were crisp and my soda was refilled without asking. Not sure I'll be back as there are better places to eat breakfast around here. But hopefully I made the waitresses day, as when I left, I tipped for both our meal and the two crazies. Always on the hunt for a new breakfast spot. I was heading north and wanted to get an early start, so I made it in and found nothing short of perfection. Friendly staff and a great value for your buck. You can count on Andres D. to never steering you wrong. A new owner since November, is eager to get things anew here. New menu items are in the works too. I typically get my favorite skillet on my first visit and my bacon, mushroom, jack cheese with two poached eggs soft, was so delicious. I had never been offered a piece of french toast as a side option, that is my second most favorite breakfast. The ingredients in the skillet were blended together well and there certainly was no shortage. It was all super pipping hot and there was plenty to take home for a second meal. This was by far the worst dining experience I've had. The food was mediocre at best, in comparison to the service the food was spectacular. The one waitress that was working was rude, short with us and did not describe any "up charge". We found a hair in the food and there was not a manager or anyone to show this to. When asking for a detail of the receipt the waitress was again rude, then identified there was an item we were being billed for they corrected it with attitude and sarcasm. We then asked for a manager who was rude himself and showed us in fine print on the last page of the menu that they reserve the right to add additional charges that was the straw that broke the camel's back. A majority of the clientele at this restaurant are elderly folks coming in for breakfast and lunch. I wonder how many of these elderly customers have been over charged based on this "fine print"? Honey Bee's isn't the place where one would expect a wow factor - it's a little white building on a busy road next to a bank. But wow, is it good. Their M&M pancakes are simply the best breakfast food Western Springs has to offer. It's location is okay, usually there's a buzz around mid afternoon since it is only about a block away from a high school holding 2000 kids, but you never feel rushed or hurried just because the restaurant is full. What I feel like Honey Bee has to work on is decor and really selling themselves to teenagers as the place to go after school instead of getting food from the nearby Great American Bagel, Subway, or Mariano's. The decor is something straight out of the 90's, which is not necessarily the vibe I or other students would appreciate dining in. Regardless of these two little slip-ups, the food is cheap and good. I doubt that there's any single item on the menu that costs more than $20, which is a nice bonus considering that the only other breakfast place in town, Solstice, is extremely overpriced. read more

Synopsis: This was my most mortifying dining experience ever. Food is pretty good but service is horrible, the owners are cheap and they will microwave your food if you complain that it was served lukewarm. Details: Seemed like a neat pancake house with a lot of regulars but got a weird vibe from the server right off the bat, she was short with us and seemed hurried even though the place wasn't jam packed yet. Thought it was weird that my daughter's chocolate milk came in a glass full of ice. Figured they were being cheap but then realized our sodas were also room temp except for the ice. Hmmm. Food came out after a typical wait, but my scrambled eggs weren't hot, barely warm even though the rest of the food was perfect. We flagged the server to ask for new eggs and she tried to take my whole plate away. I wanted to continue eating but she insisted on bringing the eggs back to the kitchen so she ended up bringing another small plate to take just my eggs back to the kitchen. She got all defensive when we asked why the big fuss over bringing the eggs back to the kitchen and assured us that I would be getting freshly cooked eggs. Ok, whatever, I didn't want the cold eggs anyway but I did stick a piece of my sausage under the eggs just to make sure the next plate she brought were the fresh eggs. They came back all toasty warm but a little dry, with my piece of sausage right where I hid it!!! My husband went right to the manager who told him to calm down. When my husband revealed the piece of sausage, that really put the waitress over the edge (hands raised defensively, "I'm not the cook"). No one wanted to fess up about their cheapskate business practices or offer to fix the problem.
