    Good extensive morning menu
    Jeffrey B.

My first time coming to the original pancake house. We didn't have to wait long and was asked if we would like gluten free menus. We later find out that the owner has celiac disease and wanted to make sure everyone has options. The menu was extensive so it took us a bit to figure out what we wanted. I was a little surprised they didn't have combination plates. Eggs and pancakes etc. Yes you can order a side of bacon but that's $7.95 for 3 slices. I did order it and they turned out to be good size slices. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and you get 6 of them. I finished 5 of them so that was good. It comes with blueberry syrup and regular syrup. Plenty of butter. Lola our server was extremely pleasant and we were able to chat with her to learn more about the restaurant. It was interesting information so we were thankful we met her. There is plenty of seating in booths and tables. They appeared to have enough people working as well. So you didn't have to wait long to be seated or for your breakfast. I was very pleased with everything but especially the service. Thank you Lola for the hospitality and work you do. It made a difference in a rough morning just coming from the doctors office. Keep up the good work and now that we know about the original pancake house we will be back. We also found out that the restaurant in New Albany the manager knows sign language and since I'm deaf we would like to visit there.

A group of us for my company went here when we were in Columbus for the conference. I've been to other locations in the past, but never this one. We had a good experience. The staff was super helpful and did a great job with most of our meals. We had a large group of about 15 of us and only one meal was Not out in time. I was impressed with how Marge my kids full breakfast was. I ordered the kids breakfast because I thought I wasn't very hungry, but when it came, it was a pretty full meal and I ate it all. When we told them it was one of our colleagues, birthdays, they came in saying and gave him a birthday cake. Very tidy. I was not at all upset with the experience we had here.

This was our second or third visit to this place, but unfortunately, the third time was more of a disappointment than a charm. Our hot chocolates arrived cold, but we chose not to complain since we usually prefer to let minor things slide. However, things escalated when our daughter's omelette came with completely burnt bacon--so charred that pieces were visibly sticking out (as seen in one of our pictures). To add to the frustration, my omelette had two incorrect ingredients, which wasn't what I ordered. On a positive note, the waitress and her manager were incredibly kind and sincerely apologetic, which we appreciated. While the service was warm, the kitchen's attention to detail left much to be desired this time around.

The service was excellent and waitress was professional and friendly. My partner got the blueberry pancakes with eggs and sausage. Eggs cooked perfectly and pancakes were delicious. The corned beef hash was not homemade and the corned beef was out of a can. This is the reason for my 3 stars. Also, the special syrup is $4.50 and a side of bacon is $7.50. In hindsight I should have asked the prices but after the disappointing hash it I was already irked.

Stopped here on the way back home for a yummy breakfast before heading back out on the road! I got the Chorizo Eggs Benedict, which is chorizo, onions, bell peppers and two eggs on an English muffin topped with homemade hollandaise sauce! I always love trying new hollandaise sauce and this one was yummy! I do wish it had a little more spice to it, but the cholula sauce did the trick for me! The hash browns - like always - were crispy and good! My friend got the Buckeye Pancakes and those were DELICIOUS! Peanut butter and chocolate together on anything is a good choice! I even got to eat some of them, which was my favorite part! If I ever get the chance to come back down and try this place again, I will definitely be trying some more of their fun-flavored pancakes!

I love a good breakfast joint and the OG pancake house does not disappoint with taste. However i do have a little bit of beef with this spot bc it's SO overpriced. I never leave without spending an absurd amount for a simple breakfast. Make sure you come early or be prepared to wait (thought it's usually a short wait time). Just keep in mind they are always packed! My servers have always been kind and attentive nonetheless. Overall a 3.5-4 / 5 rating. I would prefer a small diner for a breakfast as such

We are so glad we stopped here while in Ohio for Thanksgiving. These were the best pancakes we've had ever! From plain, to pumpkin to blueberry, everything we tried was delicious. We also liked the coffee, bacon and omelettes. The omelettes were gigantic! Also, our server was so friendly and helpful. His advice and recommendations were spot on. The restaurant was clean and well lit. It was comfortable, tables weren't too close together. We will be back!

Our service was nice and friendly. The inside was tidy. The food was good. My favorite thing was the fresh squeezed orange juice. The banana pancakes could have used more banana for my liking. The corned beef hash was a tad too salty, but had a nice crust on the outside. The bacon was good quality thick cut bacon and everyone loved it.

It was super busy when we went but service was fast and the food was super good. Great experience

Applewood smoked bacon, hard scrambled eggs and half order of sourdough French bread.

I love the fresh sourdough bread French toast here. Not willing to give up my eggs and bacon though. I was able to get both for around 15$. Toppings it off is my free coffee. Thanks Nathan aka Ryan :) for the friendly service.

The place is not big and they usually have large parties coming in, thus fills the space quickly. We started with Tofu chicharron which we were expecting to be crispy - because chicharron means 'crackling pork rinds' but these Tofu were soft a lil disappointed there. We tried the pork sisig, it was okay. It has this mayo topping and there's an overpowering taste of ginger which is not typical of sisig. We enjoyed the grilled pork belly though, marinated enough and it's complimented with soy vinegar dip. The pancit on the other hand was very greasy. The oil was pooling at the bottom of the bowl. Taste was was just okay. It has way too many chinese sausage in it. We completed our meal with Ube Carioca, it is this chewy rice cake that is deep fried with glazed sweetness & that was okay as well. We wanted the mango sago, however they were out. The service was prompt and adequate parking space.

Great meals with philosophical friends (2 of 2)…read more Rarely am I in Midwestern capital cities with beltways around them, but I do have a few friends from years ago who do live in this city's suburbs. I once ate at their famed German restaurant with the lunch buffet and the extra cost cream puffs with an Italian-American friend who is sort of an Archie Bunker with an MBA. He provides the entertainment. The last time I ate lunch in C-bus with that good friend was before the pandemic. I believe that the lunch buffet has returned to that German restaurant, but I can wait to do that on some other trip. On this last go round, I met up for lunch with a different friend with whom you can discuss the human condition ad nauseam, which is somewhat of a good thing. It's a good thing because there aren't many people who are capable of doing that and who will engage in that. However, when you wrap up such involved discussions, you might feel a little overwhelmed for a while! I got to choose the restaurant ... from out of town. I didn't like the choices with which I was presented and the only area of town I really know is the Polaris area around Ikea. I looked up listings and recommendations. Chocolate Cafe' had two things under its belt from the get-go. It's a high scoring bistro-cafe that has a noteworthy breakfast and lunch following and it has the word "chocolate" in its name. It's in that area near the Barnes and Noble west of the big state university with its logo featuring a branch that looks like a marijuana leaf. I have since learned it's not a marijuana leaf. We ordered lunch, with one entree being a Cobb salad and the other being one of their club sandwiches, the latter of which was mine. It was very good and, as is often the case with me, I could have eaten a bigger sandwich. I went through it fairly quickly, even though I did have the small and cheap Swedish breakfast at Ikea that morning. With the entrees, we ordered bowls of their popular tomato basil soup, which really hit the spot on that cold day. To drink, we ordered house coffee and a hot chocolate. The house coffee is refillable while the hot chocolate is not, but that's standard protocol just about anywhere. With a name like Chocolate Cafe,' we did not order dessert. My friend left first and I stayed behind to look at the dessert case. I later caved in for a slice of their moist and rich chocolate fudge cake to take with me. Like I said, it was moist and rich ... and also very tasty and filling. The pricing here is standard and appropriate. The service was folksy and very attentive, despite their being full on a weekend approaching the holidays. The interior is bright because of the floor-to-ceiling windows around the perimeter of the restaurant. That really scores points with me. Lastly, upon pulling in, the parking lot was full and I had to park a short walk away, all the while paying attention to parking signs and rules. This implied that Chocolate Cafe' was most likely a good place ... and that was corroborated. I have never driven down I-71 into this city's center once past its beltway. I have doglegged and taken Highway 315 - the Olentangy River Parkway. At its top end, it winds a little and it's slightly scenic. As you start approaching OSU, all these different medical towers with different specialties loom over you ... from both sides of the road! It's similar to the feeling one gets when they drive past the Texas Medical Center south of downtown Houston, as in, "What a maze ... why so many damn medical buildings?" But that doesn't affect their rating. It's just a personal pet peeve. I'm going to go with 4.5 stars for Chocolate Cafe', which obviously rounds up to 5 stars. It makes for an interesting meal and experience and, while I would not repeat it like clockwork because of how rich it can be, I could definitely see repeating it if I lived in its general area. My friend said he would be coming back with family members. That said, you clearly see two seals of approval.

There is decent parking and ample seating. We were just taking coffee to go, but it seemed like a great place to be able to meet with friends, get some work done, or enjoy a quiet moment. Our coffee was good. There weren't a ton of options for customizing, but the ones they had were great. We didn't get any of the signature chocolates to go (big mistake on our part), but the case was tempting. If you're in the area, skip the chains and head to Chocolate Café.

We ordered a DK glazed donut, which met expectations, and I chose the Meat & Cheese omelet, which was comparable to other diner offerings. My husband ordered a skillet dish, which he reported as satisfactory. Although visually unremarkable, the taste was commendable. However, the service was disappointing and almost non-existent. During a busy period, there was no hostess apparent, forcing us to inquire at the cashier area about seating. They took our contact information, and shortly afterward, our table was ready. We were seated and provided menus, but the wait for a server to take our order was excessively long. It was indicated that coffee was self-serve and that customers should select their own mug. Subsequently, we observed no further service at our table, and the food was delivered by staff members elsewhere. I had to locate condiments independently. After finishing our meal, we returned to the cashier to settle our bill, which was not presented to us. The seating area within the diner is small, which is expected given the establishment's size. One additional concern is parking: the lot accommodates approximately seven vehicles, and street parking in Grandview Heights is limited. This constrains accessibility and could diminish visitors' overall experience in the area. It is hoped that in the future, the service at this establishment will align with the high quality of its cuisine.
