Our group of 8 showed up here on a busy and hot Sunday morning, and this place is exactly what we needed. Prices were very reasonable for all menu items, and the food came out in less than 10 minutes for all at the table. The server was quick to offer coffee refills, however, the busboy made a mixup and refilled regular iced coffee instead of a mocha iced coffee. Didn't ruin the day, but still left us with something we didn't order. More than likely this was due to the busy brunch rush. My omelette came out perfectly and no to go box was needed. The server was able to split our bill among cash payers and three debit cards so everything worked out quickly and accurately. read more

The service was mediocre, seems to be short staffed. It took significant time to have our order placed. The place was only 30% full, and the food took over 40 minutes to come out for 3 people. We were given extra menus for croissants, yet 20 minutes after placing the order we were told they were out of croissants. Food was not accurate and short when came out, even when told it was short of another egg, the server said yes and nothing was delivered. The omelet was very dry. We have been patrons of The Original Pancake House for approximately 20 years, although we haven't been to the Vista location in a while because Poway is more convenient for us. We visited Vista today and it is definitely changed. There has been a change of ownership since our last visit and it is obvious in the quality of the food. The bacon is usually superb and full of flavor but this was dry & flavorless. The 49er pancakes are usually light and chewy, but these are as flat of a piece of paper and we needed a knife to cut them. We did not care for the way the owner spoke to and treated his servers. We won't be coming back to this location. Poway has all of our business moving forward. read more

This is one of our favorite breakfast places in town. We like to come here early on the weekends before the church crowd comes if you know what I mean, everybody who works here is really kind. It's nice to see that they're consistently busy. My husband has found his favorite dish in the chicken crepe and I think my overall favorite breakfast dish is the veggie omelette. Their omelettes are so fluffy and the veggie omelette in particular has so much cheese. It's very decadent their pancakes like their namesake suggest are the reason why you'd come here we've tried a little bit of everything from the Dutch pancakes to their original buttermilk pancakes to the cherry crepes and they've all been delicious. My personal favorite is the pecan pancakes. The coffee is delicious and the service is really nice. The place is always being cleaned so I feel really good about that and the parking lot is really nice and spacious. We really like coming here. read more

There's something for everyone. The German pancake or the smaller version the Dutch baby are favorites The potato pancakes were a little bitter, but they were quick to offer anything I needed. Sour cream and apple sauce. I decided to try to go for healthy and the chicken crepes with almond shavings hit the spot. Service was fantastic I bet she refilled our water a half dozen times. Went during heat wave, it was over 90 degrees and the AC was not on! I ordered the classic eggs Benedict, the egg whites were Not cooked, the Hash browns were burnt! The server was friendly and was professional. I visited this place a few times but unfortunately the quality seems to be dropping from this place. I've been here both on a weekday and weekend morning. The weekend morning can definitely be more crowded (including Friday morning) so there's a chance you'll need to wait to get seated. It's also pretty loud inside so aware about that. I really liked the food here back in the days (I've also had it down in Poway and up in OC area) but I noticed the quality is not the same as it used to be. First of all, service has been okay but took really long for our server to come to get our order along with giving the check. The other thing is that the prices definitely have increased and the food isn't what it seems to be anymore. The pancake just seemed dry and cold and the eggs (for two) look so tiny along with the links tasting a bit meh as well. My other friend (who was visiting CA) had a side of potato pancakes and it was a disaster where it wasn't how the pics showed but was just a messy hash brown with big chunks of potato. This really used to be one of my favorite places for breakfast but prices are too high, service was meh, and the food quality has dropped that I wouldn't want to come here anymore. My wife and heard lots of great news and feedback from people we met at San Diego comic con so we decided to try it out. We entered the front door and quickly got greeted by older lady to be seated. I was shocked wow a great start. Then another waitress came up to us a bit younger in her 20"s said what you like something to drink we replied the older lady asked us already. So we got the menu and had sometime to look it over and noticed all the waitresses and employees had a big smile on their face and was quickly cleaning and setting up the tables nicely for the next incoming customers. My wife ordered hash due to delicious looking picture and I had the Cali egg Benedict Both dishes came with side of pancake hash brown that brought my wife memories when her mother used to make it. Then she let the older lady know the story how excited she was looking forward to eating the pancake hash brown but the lady kinda brushed it off like ."AND!" I was like wow maybe she just on go in hurry to do her job so we did take it personally. Then wife repeated her story to the younger waitress and different response she was excited to hear that story and insured us that the pancake hash brown is tasty. We were exited to see are food be delivered to our table and it looked so delicious I dug right into it before I took the picture, I forgot mention I did ask for a side of bacon and they forgot to bring out until I asked for it but no big deal for me. The eggs Benedict was delicious that I ate all before I touched the pancake hash browns. 5-star on the eggs Benedict . Then I tried the pancake hash brown it was ok not a fan it was a bit dry and plain no seasoning that I can taste 2-star. The side bacon was ok I was bacon and cooked ok 3-star I would rather stick with plain has browns with a bit salt instead of this pancake hash brown, I do recommend maybe for chef to mix it with a bit bacon grease or seasoning salt of some kind to either keep it from being too dry and no taste. Now my wife's plate was highly disappointed the hash was overwhelmed In an onion liked taste, I and my wife like onions but this was too much and awful. Then only I can think of if the chef cut up a bad onion or used too much onion powder. My wife couldn't eat her food anymore. I let waitress know she was nice and said sorry and asked if my wife wanted anything else. My wife lost her appetite and didn't want anything else so we asked for the check. I also forgot to say we saw sign that says if you follow they will give you a free strawberry desert so I did but didn't get the desert. Then we got the bill and food was still on there full price even though my wife took two bites out of it. We paid for it and just left of course left a tip for nice waitress, but would I go back I would say a hard no unfortunately but I did like egg Benedict but not enough to come back. I think what was irritating the most was the fact that the waitress in our area dropped off food to the table next to us & didn't bother to acknowledge us whatsoever. OPH seems to have become a new family tradition for us. We've been here three years in a row to celebrate all of our family's March birthdays. Each year, they handle our large party of 6 with ease. We've always gone on a weekend morning or early afternoon and it's never been a problem. They know how to quickly turnover tables and set them up. Service is on point- coffee refills, orders taken, food comes out fast, and never a mistake. OPH is a well oiled machine. My personal favorite is their apple pancake. If you like apple pie, this is a must have! Just note, this dish takes a bit longer to make- it even says it on the menu. It's worth the wait- trust me! We came in as a big group on Saturday. We waited for a while to be seated and it took several hours to place and receive our orders. But the staff was trying their best to accommodate us. I tried many dishes. The cherry crepe was delicious but i couldn't finish it because the portion was big (all of their dishes are huge portions). I'm a fan of their potato pancakes! The apple pancake looked huge but tasty. The walnut pancakes were a bit dry for my taste because I don't like having syrup in general. No one came to serve us or ask our order until we asked one of the gals handing out water to serve us. We were considering going to the Rancho Santa Fe pancake house and regret that we didn't. Then, our food took an hour to come. It was insane how bad the service was. If you can't run a restaurant correctly, time to hire competent staff or new management. read more
