This bar was hot and loud. Our party was sweating the whole time. Some of the staff was nice, but a few people were rude to us. The host scratched off our names before seating us, and the food runner was rude. Our waitress was nice, but the lady bringing out the drinks brought us the wrong one, then lied about it, saying it was correct. I'm also not sure why she was in a maid's outfit, as nobody else working here was wearing one. They charge $2 for a large ice cube, which is ridiculous. The water they brought to the table was warm too, and they didn't provide ice. I also didn't like that there was no cell phone or internet service in the entire bar. Very unique spot with awesome vibes and great staff. I ordered a a dealers choice bourbon forward (somehow it was super sweet) and my wife loved her espresso martini. If it wasn't a Wednesday and fairly slow I could understand the mistake in my drink but with only a quarter of the place occupied I was disappointed. Met up with a friend here and we absolutely loved our drinks! I had their signature drink which was "The Candlestick Maker" ($12) it had "Anejo Rum, lime juice & house charred pineapple syrup." Imagine pineapple upside down cake as a cocktail and delightfully not that sweet, heavy, but satisfying. My friend had the "Ocean State of Mind" ($12) which had, "Light Rum, P.O.G. (Passion - Orange - Guava) syrup, Dry Vermouth, Blue Curacao, lemon juice, and Orange Sunshine Bitters." She was very pleased with her drink as well! It was refreshing. We tried some of the food which is from "Crust" upstairs, an Italian restaurant. We had 2 orders of the "Garlic Knots" because we just couldn't get enough of them - pillowy soft with lots of fresh garlic and much butter! Our order of the "Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo" however was not as good and we returned it. For seating, there are bar stools, couches, and booths. We came on a Sunday and it was pretty slow, so no wait and plenty of seating. There's no password, just head down the staircase with the red light which is around Crust Restaurant. I have visited the Ostrich about 6 times and each time I've had a wonderful experience. The services is friendly and classy, the ambience is dark and Prohibition era deep reds. The cocktail menu is out of this world to say the least. Being a big fan of mixology, I am wowed every time I read it. Are usually go here to start the evening and have one or two rounds of cocktails.. One time I've had bruschetta and meatballs, and found the meatballs delicious. This time however our group all ordered food and everything was unbelievable! I had the best calzone I've ever had, pictured below. We came on a Friday night and the place was AMAZING. Got seated right away. Our drinks came in a timely manner and they were delicious. We weren't sure about ordering food, but husband decided to get a pepperoni pizza, which he loved. I got the bruschetta, original and goat cheese. All of that was definitely gone by the time we left. It's considered a Speak Easy because there's no signs to show you where it's located, just some stairs going down by Crust. No password or code words needed. First off, the entrance from the restaurant (not the real entrance) is way cooler than the real front entrance into the bar. We got in trouble for going through the wrong entrance way. It's really muggy down there, no air circulation, but the bathrooms are nice, cold and refreshing! Service can be extremely slow, it can be really busy in here on the weekends. But it took about 15 mins or longer to receive our drinks after placing an order. Their cocktails aren't that strong. They're good, just not strong. My brother in law ordered a beer and as you can see from the pictures, his cup was caked on the bottom with some unknown residue. My husband and I have been going to The Ostrich for almost a decade now, and when I tell you we have witnessed it change, I mean the ups and downs! We are so happy to see The Ostrich back to its amazing state, all thanks to the new manager Shamit! The ambiance, the staff and the food and cocktails are top notch. They have a great craft cocktail menu, my favorite drink that has lived on through all the changes is the baker. A twist on a whiskey sour and it is a 10/10. Last time we were in Chandler we unfortunately didn't get a chance to stop by for drinks after dinner so this time we made it a priority to go. We knew it was connected to Crust and had an idea of how to get in but still were hesitant to go in since there are no signs anywhere but it adds to the speakeasy vibe. Once inside it's like walking back in time with decor and vibes of another era with a dim lit room and large bar. When seated the hostess asked if we'd be eating as well since they also offer the menu from upstairs at Crust which we didn't know so it'd be a good way to try both if you've never been to either. They obviously specialize in drinks and they have an impressive list of cocktails separated by spirits which makes it easy if you have preferences. It honestly can be overwhelming to narrow down what you want to order but it gives you a reason to come back again to try more. For our first round we decided on the Corpse Reviver and Scofflaw which were both favorites of our server. When they arrived we were surprised how well they tasted and how they didn't have a strong alcohol taste but you could still taste it. For our second round we wanted to go for some of their higher end drinks from the different spirits and decided on the Jazz Flute and the Oaxacan the Wild Side. Unfortunately they were out of the Lagavulin for the Jazz Flute so instead our server suggested a Scotch Old Fashioned instead which was somewhat similar. The drinks were strong but still very good and had much smokier and more substantial flavor profiles compared to the other drinks. All together this place is a great atmosphere and very unique find. The prices are obviously a bit higher but you get what you pay for here and it's definitely worth the extra dollars. The seating is relatively cramped so don't be surprised if you get bumped by someone walking. Also signal is very poor in the building since it is located in a basement. Or maybe it is because I was expecting more. Everyone was so hyped up to stop by after an evening at Bourbon Jack.... But when we got there the ambiance was dead, the music was not even on point, the kitchen was closed, and even the ostrich was missing its head. (Talking about the sculpture inside the place). Back to the review... I don't know! But this visit really didn't do much for me. I'm sure there are many places in the city that can still be active at night, but this was not it. I used to love this place. Despite the fact that there is zero cell service and limited space they always made up for it with wonderful drinks and great customer service. Unfortunately not anymore. I feel the menus has changed about 10 times in the last year. They got rid of the Zombie which was one of the best drinks on the menu. When I asked on three different occasions if they could still make it I was told rudely all three times they didn't have the ingredients. So you're a speak easy without Rum or pineapple juice. Now all the servers seem like they're overwhelmed and that's any night of the week. The drinks are all $14 plus and honestly they're not that great anymore. This definitely place has the opportunity to be great. I stopped in for a cocktail a few months ago and really enjoyed my experience. The staff was knowledgeable and had good recommendations. Drinks were well balanced and the vibe here was very chill. Lighting was nice and music fit the scene. Second visit wasn't so great. We walked in to an intense bleach smell, first off. The girl serving our group was also not happy to see us at all. I understand it was a Sunday night but we arrived 2 1/2 hrs before close. The bartender made some nice cocktails, albeit a bit on the sweeter side as opposed to balanced. I'm thinking this is because the general public prefers more sweet but usually speakeasy spots focus more on craft and balance so not sure why it changed since my last visit. The lighting was also a bit too bright this time which took away from the experience. Throughout our time here, we all felt very unwelcome. They begrudgingly brought our drinks, seemed annoyed that we needed a few separate checks and were not in the mood to chat at all. The bathroom also wreaked of vomit, which might explain the bleach smell but the combo of both didn't quite make sense. I gave this place 3 stars because my first experience was great but this second one was pretty close to terrible. I'm hoping this was just a fluke night. If I'm in Chandler, I might give this place one more shot for another star but I won't be going out of my way unfortunately. read more

This place has it all beginning with the atmosphere. Underground below the first resort hotel in Arizona, the San Marcos which was built in 1912. It was used apparently as a speakeasy during prohibition and it's been revived with a similar attitude and I'm sure much better cocktails. The ambiance alone would have been enough to make me happy, but I stayed longer than I expected because of the service of one bartender, Adam, who taught some bartending secrets as well as entertained us with alcoholic flavors. I said I liked some similar to a Manhattan, and he had a blast making creations. I drank just to get him to make something else. Delicious, as well. Adam is a total pro, a huge asset to the Ostrich. Visited The Ostrich with some girlfriends to celebrate Galentines day we had a wonderful experience. Service was great and prompt. Our food was delicious and the drinks were phenomenal too. They don't take reservations but we got there at 7:15p on a Saturday and were seated right away. I had the linguine with cream sauce and clams and it was great. My friends has the eggplant Parmesan, Greek salad, and some giant pizza and they loved it. I also had the spicy mango margarita and loved it.
