Went to Dick's to purchase a new mountain bike for my grandson. First the prices for the quality bike he wanted were very, very reasonable. The bike he wanted was not assembled completely or properly. The original sales person said he wanted another associate, Donovan, to check the bike and make any necessary adjustments. Donovan did a complete inspection of the bike, finding several missteps by the person who had originally assembled the bike. However Donovan remained pleasant and informative and did not criticize the other staff member. He checked every feature on the bike and fixed any deficiencies. We appreciated his knowledge and professionalism. read more

I went in today and I felt racially profiled. This employee named Ally kept following me around the store. I picked up a Nike sweater and as soon as I placed it down she ran over to organize it. I placed it back as it was. Everything I touched here she came to ensure I didn't do anything. As I checked out she came to register to ensure I was paying for my item. She even said over the radio I was the one checking out the sweater.This young lady seems to be racist and Ally I will be calling cooperative. I find this location to have a wide selection but the prices are very high. The pricing is also variable which is confusing and frustrating. For example, the same sports bra in the same color but different size is $20 more. Unfortunately, some of the clothing on the racks have makeup on them. - When I made a return in store, I was helped by the front desk and my funds were provided immediately. However, they have very specific rules about online purchases and in store pick ups that are not flexible and I no longer shop here because of it. - Overall, I think the customer service on site is minimal and the pricing structure is inconsistent. Repeat of my previous visit. This is a huge warehouse type store with virtually no employees working here. There was a lone cashier present on the day I wandered in to see if there were any rash guard shirts for swimming in the cold weather. I had gotten one here previously, so I knew where to look, but all they had were the same shirts in smaller sizes. Then I attempted to find camping gear, but only got lost in the fishing department. Other customers gamely acted as salepeople for each other, pulling merchandise off the shelves and trying to find their sizes. Maybe having no employees cuts costs, but this is far from being a discount store, and is located close to a university where hard working students need part time jobs. read more

I normally don't leave reviews for chain department stores, but I had to give a HUGE shout out to the salesperson who helped us purchase a couple of kayaks yesterday. It was a huge purchase for us, and we spent about 30 minutes asking a ton of questions, pulling some down to sit/get a feel for and I was super impressed. They were knowledgeable and patient with us as we navigated what we wanted. We went in with a slight idea, but they were able to help us determine which kind of kayak we wanted plus what size paddles would work best. We've been to Dick's a few times now in the last couple of weeks. Also purchased a basket for my bike. Everyone has been super helpful, and the store has been really organized. I think the store has just enough options so it's not overwhelming plus availability to people who know what they're talking about.... It makes a huge difference. read more

Next I was looking for a step up for exercise and it was too heavy for me so I found Jacob again and he brought it up to the register , he was the cashier and I didnt even have to ask for him to bring it outside and put in my car . Haven't been happy with the service here. Came in yesterday for the third time and every sales associate seems to have an attitude (except one girl). Yesterday after a $200 plus purchase I was asked if I wanted my receipt printed or emailed and I said emailed. Recited my email address and my name/email address is uncommon. Walked out no email. Walked back in and said I needed a printed receipt since no email came through. Associate said it takes about 10 minutes (yeah right yours does but no one else's does?). He printed my receipt with annoyance, and guess what, never got an emailed receipt which means he didn't get my email address right and didn't validate it. If I was a manager here this employee would be written up, at minimum. He clearly didn't have my information correct and didn't care at all and got attitude when I went back in for a printed copy. The selection here is great, like in all Dick's but the staff need a customer service reality check. read more

So I'm at this place that is named perfectly for the name of the store because that's exactly what the associates are. They have this maze of a line to pay. There was nobody in the line so I went around and walked up to the register. This little boy tells me I have to walk through the maze. I walked right out and didn't buy what I came in for. Since my previous review was deleted off of google. I want to start off this by saying I usually don't write reviews even if it has been a bad experience but on Saturday I had to deal with a rude employee, when coming in to resolve an issue that I had already spoken to a staff member about the night before. She had to interrupt the conversation after a young gentleman had already been helping me out. She was asking inappropriate questions that even myself as a manager would not ask a customer coming into my business that has been having an issue with a product. She was even making the boy that was helping me feel uncomfortable. After talking to an associate, I found out her name is Maddy***, and there have been previous complaints about her before. I would never let any of my staff speak to a customer the way that Maddy spoke to me. She was asking idiotic questions in a demeaning manner about merchandise that she should've known about. Very pathetic way to try to act like someone you're not. ****Daylin who I've spoken to over the phone also was very kind, relatable and helpful. He definitely needs a raise!! Literally the rudest staff and so unhelpful. My husband and I went in to buy 2 kayaks and easily spend $900 after everything. When we finally found someone to help they were so rude and did not offer to help us at all. We carried 2 kayaks ourselves to the register and then come to find out they had already been purchased by someone else with an online order because they had a sticker on the side that was suppose to somehow notify customers that it was already purchased but it did not...they were still displayed on the floor with price tags on them. Then when we told the person at the register and the associate (who looked to be a manager of some sort) that she was very rude and did not offer to help at all the rude associate didn't even look up to acknowledge or apologize. For several days, I went in and every time they told me that the only guy who could do it was at lunch I went back at different times the guy is still at lunch Obviously they don't want to help me They find excuses not to Help I ended up going to the Santa Maria location, and found an extraordinary individual named Cody in their fishing department. I come here for Under Armour apparel. I don't need or want associate help, though if I do, it's tough to find. The clothing selection is great for active wear, each section is well organized and stocked. There is always a sale rack with some light discounts. They have a small selection of bikes, and a large shoe selection. Lots of sporting good stuff for kids, baseball, soccer, football, etc. Lines at check-out can be long and slow moving, the staff are slow to react to surges at checkout. I bought an inflatable bed pump that was broken out of the box. I brought it back and they easily and quickly exchanged it. No hassle. It's next to Target and an easy stop to combine trips. read more

I came to exchange an online order. First impressions: spacious and similar layout to Sports Authority but more organized. I searched for a specific camping item I wanted to exchange for, but couldn't find it on my own. A quick glance at nearby aisles and still couldn't find an employee to help me. I headed for the checkout area intending to just make a return. The return process was really quick and simple. We purchased an exercise bike that was to be delivered and assembled. At the time of purchase no one seemed very knowledgeable. When we hadn't heard about delivery we called the store and spoke to someone who claimed to be the manager. She was snippy and sarcastic. She essentially said it wasn't her problem since they contracted with an outside delivery service. It was to be delivered between 3-6 and at 5:20 the delivery service had not even picked the item up and loaded it onto the truck. We tried to cancel the order, for which our credit card was charged even before delivery. She said we would need to come to the store in order to do so. We will never shop at Dick's again after this extremely poor customer service. Obviously customer service is not a high priority with them. read more

DIck's gun counter in SLO is pretty darned decent -- far better than I expected it to be. The fact is, I am amazed they even sell firearms in SLO. Their prices are competitive and they can often order what you're looking for if they don't already have it in stock. The counter guys are a little green but they're not bad. I would take them over the typical arrogant/ignorant/bigoted "gun shop guy" anytime. I would certainly buy another gun there. read more
