If you too have managed to also sprout a SUMO-C-19 Ultra Jumbo or even just a slightly smaller Regular Jumbo Belly, then get here STAT! Big 5 has Belly Busting prices [with the multitude of email alerts] and some equipment & supplies to make either a dent in your waistline [not in your wallet] or at least impress your diabolical iwatch, which is always spying on my Coach-Potato ways. My demonic iWatch conspires with my dastardly iPhone to constantly defame me/you on my/your slothful ways. Mark my words, it even tracked your slothfulness for the whole duration of the pandemic. You get NO CREDITS for even living thru this nightmare, nor saving you & others from disease, nor death. It is ruthlessly judgmental & belongs in North Korea & not here. I am almost sure Kim Jung iLL had some hand in hacking these devices to demoralize patriotic people like me. The big Kim J. iLL or KiLL for short is really suspect. If you have a SUMO-C-19 Ultra Jumbo Belly you definitely need HUGE GRIPPY KNOBS on either your bottom or on your soles, not souls. While you are busy gawking at the all the Gizmos on sale, at this almost lone relic of Brick & Mortar Pre-history, you may find other stuff you may not need. Since you are a guilt ridden rabid iWatch tormented confused ovoid human, you may even buy a Hydration Backpack. Even if you happen to be overtaken & overrun by blind arthritic decrepit rabid Rabbits, at least they can have a drink to go with one's bloated obese spherical shape. Went with my son to buy a pocket knife, the gal asked me for my id i am over 60 years old really you need my id, maybe i should check yours to see if your old enough to sell me a pocket knife! I still bought two then walked over to the shoes to buy a few pairs of work shoes and sat there waiting for some help, there were maybe one other person in the store. Looked to the register and the two gals were too busy talking with each other to even notice that customers needed help there was also a guy up front with them not sure if an employee or manager. She helped me locate and even find less expensive options than I was aware of at the time; and on another visit, made sure her employees did the same! I was looking for an inexpensive pair of running shoes so I thought I'd come to Big 5. They were having a clearance sale, I found a pair for $16.99 and one for $19.99, Score!! I even bought a new pack of no show socks I didn't even need they were on clearance. They offer a nice variety of running shoes, hiking shoes, casual every day tennis shoes and more. The shoe department was organized, easy to shop and find your shoe size. The employees were really friendly, came around and asked if I needed any assistance, at check out the cashier was nice and professional even had a friendly conversation with us. Poor business ethic. Had to drive 20 miles out of my way, from their SLO store to this one, because the girl in the SLO store didn't know how to locate The shoes I wanted in their back room. Inventory is always low as is the selection. It's the only sporting goods store in the five cities area so bring it with you if your going to to visiting. If you live in the area Dicks on Los Osos Valley Rd is a much better option. read more

Totally rude manager. I was gonna buy some pants. It said 16.99 hot price and had a written "8-" in red so I obv assumed it was on sale for $8. These clothes were located outside. It rang up $18. There was no customers in the store and there was a manager and 3 associates in the front. I asked if it's $8 and the associate thought it was weird too so she asked the manager and he said "no it's how much it says it is on the bottom. If u don't want to pay that u don't have to get it." This for Santa Maria location. It was very unoranganized. Boxes were everywhere. It was hard to move around. Was looking for specific item seen at a different location. They didn't have any idea what l was talking about. Didn't offer to call other store to check either. Had to look around o. My own. We did get a pair of shoes and did get some help with that. If you have the time and patience, ok to shop here. But if you don't want to explore on your own, try somewhere else. read more

Big 5 sporting good stores have been a favorite of mine for several years. The quality is good and their prices are fair. Their sale prices are incredible. My experience is the managers and team members work hard to care for their customers. Just as in many retail locations they have to maintain a conservative staff to make things work in today's competitive market. I appreciate their products and their service. Was completely humiliated by the rude manager Kristy, after I went in to return some sleeping bags I had just bought 2 days prior with my receipt. I was going camping and had been needing new sleeping bags and they had a great sale so I bought 2. Well when I went to sleep for the night they turned out to be tiny and 1 of them didn't even zip up around me! The other one barely did and I couldnt even move so I used the blankets that someone luckily had extra and didn't even use the sleeping bags, as they didn't even fit around me!!! So when I got back to town I returned them planning to go to the santa maria store later that week and get normal ones. Then Kristy comes up and says it's been used we cant take them back, I said no they haven't been used I said they dont even fit how could I have used them?? She said theres dirt on them. Well yeah they sat in a tent that was in dirt they got a little dirt on the bag. She then accused me of using them as "rentals" and I said no I did not rent them and she said I should have brought them back sooner then. I was out of town camping! How could I have brought them back?!! I brought them as soon as I got back! She accused me of buying them with the intention of returning them which I was actually very excited to get such a great deal. But since they literally didn't fit around me they were useless. She humiliated me in front of the other employees and as I've lived here my whole life and my family and I have shopped there for many years, big 5 just lost our business. Maybe you should get a manager that doesn't judge, as I make enough money to have no problem buying 2 sleeping bags, but in will go to dicks to get them now. Kristy is one of the most rude people and has no business in customer service. I will be contacting corporate to let them know as well. read more

The manager charged me about $5 to return an item for a more expensive one. I'd bought the swimming goggles one day and took them back the next. Despite paying about $20, the manager only gave me about $15, saying that was the sale price. Evidently they will only credit the lowest possible sales price if you don't have a receipt. I'd paid with a credit card stating I'd paid $20. Anyway, my family and I shop there a few times a year and will be driving to San Luis Obispo to buy sporting goods from now on. I shop here regularly and have bought many things from small camping items and sports equipment all the way to my first gun. The staff are always friendly and ask if I need help finding anything. The last reviewer is crazy I have never had that happen. The manager must not have even heard the person... They usually always have a lot of great sales going on when they get new shipments, frequently there will be a TON of shoes on sale out front and some apparel as well.
